Chapter 12: Troll Bridge

After being stuck in the trailer for two days.  The road was finally cleared and was drivable again.

"So to the troll?"

"To the troll." He answered.

You were excited for a first time experience without getting trapped under the snow or anything. Thinking about the troll made you giddier than high school girls talking to their crush. You almost dropped your camera from feeling so giddy.

The bridge wasn't that far. It was just a thirty minute ride from the block where Lukas parked from the coffee shop.

"Day nine with Bondevik!" You exclaimed happily and drank your coffee. "Ah, that's good stuff."

"So anyways..." You wiped the coffee off your lips. "The hunt is on and the  troll is literally under a bridge, Dora reference, and I'm gonna catch this footage without getting stuck under a pile of snow!"

"Are you sure about that?" You faced Lukas with the camera on your head and frowned at him.

"Oh hahaha." You rolled your eyes and let out a chuckle. "I am determined to get the footage!"

"Also I received another job after the bridge." He spoke that made you excited. "If this one fails, then we'll get the next one."

"Yes!" You sighed in relief as you both came to the scene.

It was almost one in the afternoon. The sun was setting, but there was a crowd of people near the bridge looking down at some crime scene tape.

Your head perked up in curiosity. Lukas parked the car and grabbed a camera.

You wondered why he got a camera for the first time when he's got some pictures from that man who gave the job. You decided to ignore it and follow him to the scene.

You walked side-by-side with him looking at the group of people.

You followed Lukas who went through the crowd like some professional and stopped by the tape of the crime scene.

You looked over his shoulders to see more blood that usual. This time it wasn't just a lamb. Goats, cows, lambs, and other things you couldn't make out. The scene was just filled with so much gore that the other things in there were smashed.

Then some officer came in speaking in the local dialect holding you guys off.

You became worried that you might not get in with Lukas to see the scene, but the officer eventually did let you in after Lukas showed him something like an I.D and gave out a laugh.

He gave Lukas a pat on the back and then noticed you behind him.

You blinked multiple times and gave an awkward smile. He spoke to Lukas asking that if he knew you.

This was weird, but whatever Lukas said got you in. You both went down below the bridge to get a closer look.

"Holy shit..." You murmured as you looked around the scene.

There was so much blood everywhere. Intestines and other parts of the body where you couldn't even tell which body part is which.

Lukas went off to take some photos while you explored the area a bit.

You looked up at the bridge to see nothing more than cracks and some stains of blood. There were marks of the cult's emblem, but drawn with blood.

There were runes drawn and some herbs sprinkled around the area.

You saw the stream of water had a hint of blood. The troll was maybe somewhere upstream and was hiding in a cave.

"(Y/n)." You looked back to see Lukas signaling for you to go back.

You nodded and ran towards him.

The rest of the day you both prepared for the troll.

You made sure that you brought your bell, strapped on your camera on well, and tied your hair back properly so it wouldn't get in the.

"Here, take this." You caught the canteen Lukas threw at you.

You examined the canteen cautiously because who knows, maybe it's a grenade or something.

"Troll stench?" That didn't sound good to you. "Is this troll perfume or something?"

"Yes, and do you think you can handle the stench?" He rose his eyebrow at you. "Try opening it a bit."

You gulped. You had a bad feeling about this. You slowly opened a small gap.

"Holy shit, what is that!" You immediately closed the canteen.

It was the worst kind of scent you've ever smelled since the day a skunk got you when you were younger and living in the forest with your parents. You placed the an down on the table and glared at Lukas.

"I did warn you." He shrugged his shoulders and went back to packing his things.

"Ugh, what does it even do?"

"Clear up your human stench to fool trolls that you're a troll."

"Don't they have a better stench? Like Channel, Marc Jacobs, or Calvin Klein type of perfumes? Better yet Axe or Old Spice? I bet their better than the last three brands."

Lukas shook his head at your statement as you stuffed the can somewhere safe in your bag so it won't stink.

"But since it's one of the safety procedures of troll hunting, I'll keep it." You mumbled.

You both got out ready to stakeout at the bridge.

It was around five or six in the evening. It looked like it was pass eight. It was dark, but the street lamps illuminated the area. There were only two street lamps, but it was enough to show the other end of the bridge. The bridge was short anyways like a four minute walk to the other side with a stream ten feet below.

You heard a low growl as you both neared the area. You both took your positions on the opposite sides of the road. You had a view of the side behind the street lamps while Lukas took his place nearer to the police tape area.

You sat down on a small chair you brought with a flashlight, and your backpack in front of you. It was boring, yes, but you were willing to wait for hours until the troll would come out for feeding time.

Any signs of the troll?

You guessed that he had no luck on his side.

No. You answered in your thoughts hoping that he was reading your mind.

But you guess he wasn't since he didn't answer back. Or maybe he got your message and heard-zone it like how seenzone is one Facebook.

You sighed and concentrated back on your area. It was eerily quiet with the wind howling making you whistle. There wasn't really an suspicious activity, but the troll was obviously present from the growl not too long ago.

Honestly this was making you bored so you decided to sing a very familiar song in a quiet voice.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man, they say who murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree

The wind howled as the verse gave you meaning. "A man who murdered three," Jared murdered your parents and your inner happiness. "Strange things did happen here," you've encountered a lot of things you never knew. Weirder than it sounds and how it looks you were encountering a lot. "If we met at midnight," practically you did meet Lukas somewhat at midnight, but what is the hanging tree? What is it?

"Nice voice you've got there." You squeaked in surprised from the sudden appearance of the Norwegian behind you.

"Holy shit, don't scare me like that." Your hand was on your chest. "You almost gave me a heart attack there."

"Good, you'll need the adrenaline." You couldn't see him well, but you guessed that he was pointing at the road.

You peeped out of the bushes to see a figure carrying something. You didn't know what it was, but it looked heavy. You eyed the figure suspiciously. Finally the figure reached the bridge. It was a cloaked man carrying the carcass of a sheep. Suddenly you realize that he was from the cult. He dropped the carcass into the bridge and began to walk away...

But it wasn't enough.

Out of nowhere a large roundish burly looking troll climbed on the bridge. The man immediately froze and shook with fear.

The troll roared angrily like some kid who lacked beef in their shawarma. The troll grabbed the man and opened it's mouth. The man yelled, scream, and struggled as he met his doom. The cries didn't died out just yet. The troll ate the man sloppily with the man still crying, and blood dripping and streaming down from his body.

You shook with fear on how the troll ate the man. It was worse than your experience from that slaughter house for pigs you went to see for a report last year.

"That's a Ringleflinch." Lukas pointed out. "It's strong enough to kill anyone with a blow. It may be small for a troll, but up close it's bigger than you think."

"You don't say..." You laughed nervously and inhaled. "Okay, what's the plan?"

You had a feeling that you're not going ti like where this was going to go for the first time in your experience in troll hunts.

"To get a blood sample."

"Oh fuck..."
