The Lazer Tag Date That Was Definitely Not a Date
That afternoon, in their detention, Sam and Gabriel didn't talk much, both seeming to avoid the other. Sam would occasionally - more like oftenly - glance Gabriel's way, only to turn his head quickly when he caught the trickster's gaze. It was awkward, and Sam hated it.
"Is something wrong?" Sam finally gained the courage to ask, not looking at Gabriel as he wiped down another desk. The detention teacher had gotten them to clean another room spotless. Sam just assumed that she prefered as few kids with her as possible.
"Nothing's wrong, my dear moose. I just figured you didn't want to talk since you've been acting so quiet since Biology." Gabriel replied, his voice nonchalant, but Sam found himself not believing that for an instant. Something was on Gabriel's mind.
"You know, I just got the distinct feeling that you're lying to me." Sam said, keeping his own voice as casual as he could. He glanced back, seeing that Gabriel had suddenly tensed. Sam tipped his head, putting down his cloth and walking over to the trickster. "Gabe?"
Gabriel turned, giving him the biggest fake smile Sam has ever seen. "I'm perfectly fine, moose." Gabriel said, but his voice sounded far too flat. Sam sighed, leaning on the desk that Gabriel was cleaning on. He gave the trickster a slightly cheeky smile, trying to cheer him up.
"Do you need a hug?" He asked teasingly, but his smile soon fell as Gabriel looked down at the desk before giving a small nod. Sam tipped his head, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "What's going on Gabe?"
"Just some family problems." Gabriel mumbled, giving him a small forced smile. Sam nodded, knowing about that pretty well. He turned to head back to his side of the room when he felt Gabriel grab his wrist, turning his head back to the boy.
"You didn't give me my hug yet." Gabriel said, and although the boy was grinning like his normal self, Sam could see in his eyes that he needed some comfort. So, Sam returned the grin and pulled the smaller teen into a hug, his heart beginning to be beat faster as he felt Gabriel wrap his arms around him in response.
"If you need to talk to anyone, I'll be here." Sam whispered in Gabriel's ear, his fingers trailing over the trickster's shoulder blades as he released him from the hug. Gabriel nodded, looking relieved despite the worry on his face.
"I'll keep that in mind, my moose." Gabriel said softly, returning to his cleaning. Sam watched him before turning away, pressing his lips into a thin line and continuing his work.

Sam had been walking out of the school behind Gabriel when he grabbed the trickster by the wrist, meeting the confused gaze of the smaller teen evenly. "Would you like to go do something? I don't want to go home just yet." Sam suggested, offering Gabriel an urging smile.
The trickster seemed to mull it over for a minute before finally smiling. "Yeah, that sounds like it could be fun." Gabriel answered before pulling out his phone. "Just let me call my dad and ask real quick."
Gabriel began dialing a number, walking out hearing range as he held the phone up to his ear. Sam watched him, leaning against the wall and waiting patiently for the trickster to get done. When Gabriel came back, he was greeted with a large grin.
"I just have to be home before eight. Otherwise, I'm free." Gabriel said happily, grabbing Sam's hand and dragging him down the stairs. "Where are we going?"
Sam smiled at Gabriel's enthusiasm, following behind the boy with a much calmer gait. "Have you ever done lazer tag?" Sam asked, smirking as Gabriel shook his head no. "Come on then. You're missing out."
It was Sam's turn to lead Gabriel and he walked down the street quickly but at a pace that didn't seem too hurried. Neither of them thought about that were still holding hands as Sam let the trickster to a building, excitement buzzing in both of their chests.
Once in, Sam paid for the both of them - despite Gabriel's protests - and collected the gear they needed, such as the infrared guns and their vests. They pulled them on quickly and finally entered the arena, grinning at the colorful lights and darkness that gave it a glow of fantasy.
On the count, both of them parted and began their hunt to shoot each other. It was fun, and Sam felt himself growing more and more excited as he saw Gabriel up ahead, the boy unaware that he was sneaking behind him.
"Hey" Sam said with a smirk, seeing Gabriel turn just in time to fire at him. The light went off on his vest and the taller teen laughed, darting away before Gabriel could return the favor. He slipped along the padded walls, glancing behind him often to make sure he wasn't being followed. He should have known the trickster was going to go to the extreme.
Just as went to turn the corner, he felt a heavy presence on his back, knocking him to the ground with a loud yelp. He looked behind him, over his shoulder, to see Gabriel smirking down at him, straddling his back and the gun pointed at his chest.
"Well, my dear moose. It seems that I've got you now." Gabriel said, and Sam struggled until the trickster fired his weapon, the taller teen's vest lighting up before Gabriel took off into the darkness. Sam was on his feet in an instant, chasing after him.
Sam's long legs came in handy as he quickly caught up to the trickster, shooting at the boy, only to his under his breath when the light on his vest didn't go off. He laughed as Gabriel fired his weapon over his shoulder, but it missed, making Sam smirk as he tackled him to the ground.
"Who's got who now?" Sam said snarkily, pinning Gabriel to the ground to keep him from shooting. Gabriel struggled, glaring at Sam over his shoudler.
"Moose, I swear, you better get off me!" Gabriel said, a laugh in his voice that Sam was happy to hear. He leaned forwards, letting his lips barely brush Gabriel's ear.
"No" Sam said cheekily before firing, the sound of Gabriel's vest going off sounding a moment later. The trickster groaned in defeat and Sam smirked, jumping up and racing off. He heard Gabriel following, and quickly turned a corner, hiding from the trickster as he raced past.

They finally left the lazer tag arena two hours later, both of them panting from the exercise and laughing from the fun. It was wearing on seven in the afternoon, and Gabriel looked at his phone with a sigh, regret crossing his face.
"Looks like I only have an hour until my dad wants me home." Gabriel said, huffing slightly. Sam smiled, stretching his muscles slightly so they wouldn't be sore later.
"You want me to walk you home? It's a thirty minute walk anyways." Sam offered, raising one eyebrow at the blush that began to spread across Gabriel's face. "Is something wrong?"
"No, I'm fine." Gabriel said, his voice sound strangely light and happy. It left Sam even more confused than before. "Come on moose! We'll never get home standing here!" Gabriel said, grabbing Sam's hand and dragging him towards the direction both Gabriel and Sam lived.
Sam followed behind Gabriel with a smile, glad that he had managed to keep the trickster happy. He didn't like upset Gabriel. It was something he didn't want to ever see again.
Their walk was relaxing, and Sam found himself enjoying the setting sun, the trees casting a shadow on the sidewalk as they headed home. Sam looked over at Gabriel, smiling softly at the way Gabriel grew so interested in the birds flying overhead. He involuntarily squeezed the trickster's hand just a little as he looked away, watching as a car passed.
He felt Gabriel's gaze turn to him, but he pretended to be interested in the squirrel that he saw jumping along the branches, not wanting to let go of the trickster's hand just yet. When he finally met Gabriel's eyes, he heard a small gasp come from the trickster.
Gabriel didn't say anything, but just stared at Sam in awe, leaving the taller teen slightly embarrassed by the attention and curious at what he was focusing on. The trickster didn't say anything, but finally turned his head back to the front, his house coming into view.
"Looks like this is my stop." Gabriel mumbled, disappointment showing on his face. Sam sighed, nodding. He felt a little regret at not getting to spend more time, but he could always see the trickster tomorrow.
"I'll see you at detention tomorrow?" Sam said, giving the trickster a slightly mischievous smile. Gabriel returned it with one of his own renowned smirks, making Sam's chest flutter slightly.
"Yeah, see you." Gabriel said, finally letting go of Sam's hand. The taller teen refused to admit that he already missed the warmth. The trickster gave a small wave goodbye before heading up the driveway of his home, entering the front door when he reached the porch. Sam watched him before turning and heading to his house as well.

"Sam, are you alright?" Dean asked, looking over his younger brother. Sam had gotten home only ten minutes after he had left Gabriel, and had been bombarded by questions by his brother. After assuring him he just went out with a friend, he finally got the questions to stop.
Now, they were sitting and having dinner, and Sam was completely distracted.
"Yeah, m'fine." Sam mumbled, not even touching his food as he stared at his hand in under the table, twisting and turning it, wondering why exactly it felt so different now. It seemed to be filled with heat, unlike his other hand, and it made his stomach burn when he looked at it, causing him to furrow his eyes in confusion.
"Did you hurt your hand? You've been staring at it nonstop." Dean commented, taking a bite of the pizza. They had ordered delivery when Sam had gotten home, the food having just arrived only five minutes ago. Sam shook his head, letting the fingers of his other hand brushed slowly over his palm.
"No, it's fine." Sam said, finally looking away from his hand and at his brother. He gave Dean a reassuring smile, though he knew it did nothing. "I'm going to go shower and do my homework for this weekend, okay?"
Sam stood, pushing his plate back. He heard Dean grunt in disagreement but his older brother didn't argue as he watched Sam leave the kitchen. Sam headed down the hall and slipped into the bathroom, relaxing as he closed the door.
He looked at his hand again, and let out a small grin as he thought of Gabriel.
