They were exactly two weeks and two days into their detention when Gabriel bounced over to him halfway through cleaning the room, a large grin on his face unlike anything Sam has ever seen before. Since the lazer tag adventure, Sam had found himself being drawn to the boy in a way that had his heart fluttering everytime Gabriel got close, which was very often. He didn't know what these feelings were, but he decided not to dwell on them too much. It
was most likely just a thing that would pass in a couple more days.
But that smile did things to his heart that had him feeling like he was going to explode, making him advert his eyes and clear his throat, preparing himself, before looking back up with a smile of his own. "What's got you in a good mood, Gabe?" Sam asked casually, setting down his cleaning supplies.
The trickster's grinned only seemed to widen, Sam just now realizing that Gabriel's hand were behind his back, and he was shifting as if he was fiddling with the thing. "You know how we agreed on me giving you a weird payment in return for getting you into detention?" Gabriel asked, a happy twinkle in his eyes. Sam furrowed his eyebrows, a little scared at where this was going.
"Yeah..." Sam said slowly, studying the overly excited boy warily. It was a good idea to always be careful around Gabriel until you knew exactly what was going on. Otherwise, you could get a bowling bowl dropped on your foot - Gabriel apologized profusely, but Sam was too busy laughing at the boy's panicked face to do anything really. "What's the payment."
"Well, here." Gabriel said, looking almost shy as he pulled the thing out behind his back. It was a frame, the back facing up so Sam couldn't see what was in it. Sam cocked his head, slowly taking the frame and turning it over, gasping at what he saw.
It was a painting of him and Gabriel, each of the faces and bodies etched with such detail that Sam could stare for hours and still find something new each time, each of the teens armed with lazer guns and laughing, the background bright and fluid, shapes and colors swirling around each other, forming different images. Sam felt himself smiling as wide as he ever had done before when he saw the small shapes of the petals, ping pong balls bouncing along their feet, and maybe even laughed a bit when he saw the sign that was peeking out from his back.
When he looked at Gabriel, the trickster was watching him with a hopeful look in his eyes, which made Sam grin even more. He grabbed the smaller teen, pulling him into a tight hug and laughing. "I love it so much! Thank you Gabriel!" Sam exclaimed happily, his heart thudding his chest with excitement of the gift. He felt Gabriel hug back, a grin appearing on the trickster's face as he rested his chin on Sam's chest, looking up at him.
"I'm glad you like it." Gabriel said with a bright smile. Sam nodded, feeling his stomach grow warm with 'that' emotion. Sam couldn't imagine anything that felt better. "I was sort of worried you wouldn't or that it wouldn't turn out well. It's the first thing I've ever drawn for someone and I-"
Sam cut him off with a hand over Gabriel's mouth. "It's perfect Gabriel. I couldn't imagine it ever being any better than this." Sam said putting the rambling boy at ease. He regrettably released the boy from the hug, the burning in his stomach growing stronger with the desire to keep the smaller teen in his arms.
Gabriel's smile only brightened. "Then I take it my apology for getting you detention will be accepted now?" The trickster asked, almost teasingly. Sam rolled his eyes, rubbing the smaller teen on the head and messing his hair up.
"If you tell anyone about this, I'll kill you..." Sam warned before continuing. "But, I'm glad that you got me detention. I got a new friend out of it and this is some of the most fun I've had in my life." Sam said, smirking at the trickster. His smirk disappeared however, when he saw the way Gabriel's eyes darkened.
"Gabe?" Sam said, frowning when the boy bit his lip, suddenly looking nervous. The trickster took a step towards Sam, his cheeks tinting slightly as he looked at the ground.
"Sam, I-" Gabriel stopped talking as the door behind them opened and a head poked in. It was Luke, the teen that was always in detention. Sam always figured that he was someone that he would avoid, but after talking to him, he learned that the senior was actually very intellectual.
"The teach said that detention is over. If you didn't get the room done, you'll finish it tomorrow." Luke said before disappearing from the doorway. Sam looked at Gabriel, seeing a disappointed, but slightly relieved look on his face.
"Sorry, moose. I'm afraid my dad wanted me to meet him town after I got out, so I can't walk home with you today." Gabriel said, a conflicted look on his face as he quickly gathered his things and darted out of the room. Sam watched him go, confusion on his face as he sighed, slowly picking up the cleaning supplies and returning them to the janitor's closet before heading out as well.

When he got home, he felt his heart freeze as he saw that familiar truck that his father always drove, clutching the picture frame tightly in his hand until his knuckles turned white. He looked around, a bit of panic in his face as he realized that if his father saw the picture, he would flip.
He, instead of going into his house, took a sharp right and began running down another street, his long legs allowing him to move quickly down the neighborhood. It was a few minutes of running before he took a left, turning onto dirt road, his feet creating small dust clouds behind him as he pounded down the street. When he came to a blue house, he slowed to a jog, relief filling his chest as he saw Bobby's vehicle sitting in front of the house.
He scaled up the front steps, reaching the door and knocking, trying to catch his breath as he waited for Bobby to open the door. When he did, he let out a breathless smile, relaxing. The man seemed surprised to see him.
"Sam, what are you doing here?" Bobby asked gruffly, his eyes narrowed. Sam took a shuddering breath, wiping some of the sweat from his brow.
"Dad is home. I was hoping I could keep something here so he doesn't see it." Sam asked once he got his breath back, looking at his uncle with hopeful eyes. Bobby nodded, understanding coming into his eyes as his gaze trailed to the picture frame in Sam's hands.
"I assume that's it?" Bobby asked, motioning to the item in Sam's hand. The Winchester nodded, holding out the frame for Bobby to take. The older man looked over the painting, an impressed look coming on his face. "Who made this? What is this?"
Sam smiled softly as he thought of Gabriel. "My friend Gabriel made it for me. It's sort of an apology for getting me in trouble. It's of us and all the pranks and adventures we've had together." Sam said, trying to hide the fluttering in his heart that was beginning to return. He could tell by Bobby's face that he had failed at it.
"I see." Bobby said, looking over the picture again with a new interest. He smiled after a moment, shaking his head and patting Sam on the shoulders. "Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it. Get home before John starts looking for you."
"Thank you Bobby." Sam said, taking a step back and waving before taking off, running at a more moderate place now that his painting was safe. It was very important to him after all.
