Chapter 25

Midnight's P.O.V.

Night came quicker then I had expected. Venom decided to take us just as the sun went down. We stopped at the edge if territory. "Thorn, take Fox, Shell, Whip, Shadow and Soot around the back of their camp." Venom announced. "Midnight, keep Kink, Lily, Thrush and Brindle here in case WindClan cats come to attack camp." He ordered, and I nodded. "Slash, Fawn, Wolf, Moon and Dodger come with me. We will be attacking the camp straight on. Thorn, go now. We will be right behind you." I sighed; we would most likely be nothing but helping. No WindClan cats will be coming here if they're fighting up there, protecting camp.

I watched them go and I saw Blossom among the group. She was supposed to be staying behind until her law healed. "Blossom!" I called to her, but she didn't turn. Either she ignored me or she was to far away to hear. "Great. We're sending an injured warrior to battle. Good job, Venom, good job." I growled low.

I looked over my shoulder and watched Thrush and Brindle practise with Lily, claws sheathed. They leaped onto Lily's shoulders and drug her down. "Don't use up your energy, if cats come this way, we'll need to use all the energy we have." I called over to them and they immediately stopped. I looked back to the direction the two groups left in and saw cats coming back.

At first, I assumed Blossom was coming back but then I saw more. And more. My fur rose along my spine and my eyes widened. My breathing caught in my throat and I slipped off the boulder. I felt so shocked. The whole WindClan - it had seemed - had come.

'WindClan had destroyed our Tribe.' I thought. "Get down! WindClan has killed our Tribe and we must fight back! They're coming now so be prepared," I whispered harshly. Lily gasped and hid behind a boulder and Brindle and Adder hid behind another one. "Kink go warn the Tribe!" She nodded and stalked through the maze of boulders and up the trail.

"We're four to a hundred, Midnight!" Lily weeped, fear blazing in her eyes. I nodded once and took a deep breath. "Yes we are." I said calmly. "We can't possibly make it, we have to surrender!" I glared at her and hissed, "No! Never! We must fight." She hesitated and I stalked away, swerving around boulders until I came to the group of warriors. They were a few tail-lengths away.

I stalked to my right and leaped out of my hiding spot as the group came as close as I could let. I grabbed the neck of an apprentice and slashed it's eye, letting the blood and watery-substance leak out of the eyeball and down my paw. I felt so evil doing so, and I liked it. I slashed it's throat just as I let out a yowl, two cats pinning my and slashing at my face. I kicked their stomachs until one finally was bucked off. I smacked the other so hard in the head it stumbled to the ground, stunned. I spotted Brindle and Adder fighting together with two warriors. Yowling filled the territory; I didn't know how long this would last. Lily fought against two strong warriors and Kink came back with Mini and Strike. I gasped as Mini threw herself like she had never had a mate or kits, biting down in their neck. Kink helped her as another pinned her.

My thoughts were interrupted - rather rude of them, I shall say - as another warrior smashed my head. I aimed at their throat but they dove under me and slashed at my chest. I hissed and grabbed under their chin, yanking them away. I felt my claw sink into the muscle - almost into their mouth - and I let go, slashing at her stomach until blood was everywhere. It only took me a few heartbeats to finish her of and then another warrior dove at me, then another. I felt weight push all the air out of my chest and claws were aimed at me everywhere. I threw more blows at their faces but I was weakening. Blood filled my eyes and I frantically blinked. I gasped for air as blood speed out of my body and out if theirs and into my mouth. 'Where was Venom?' I wondered.

"Venom! Help!" I heard Lily yowl and I knew I couldn't help her. I prayed to The Tribe of Glittering Stars that she'd be saved.

Yowls filled my ears. Mini's kits. 'Please let Leaf protect them...'

Venom's P.O.V.

We stalked through the moor and heather until we came to a halt. "Thorn, take your group to the back of the camp, we'll go straight in." He nodded and stalked quickly away, Fox, Shell, Soot, Shadow and Whip following.

I came to the entrance and I prepared for yowls and claws and blood, but no guard was there. "Weird..." I whispered, but I went farther in. I burst into the warrior den. No cat was there. I ran to the next den, no cat there either. I ran to the biggest den, probably the leaders den, and burst into it, claws unsheathed. No one there.

I backed away slowly. "They left! They're gone!" I gasped. "They must've had the same idea," Thorn called as he squeezed through a hole.

I narrowed my eyes and sniffed the ground. A scent trail led out of the camp where Thorn had come in. I followed it - squeezing through the hole - until I knew that queens and kits and their elders were sent away. "It smells of milk; they must've taken out the weak and sent the strong to fight us!" I growled.

"Go! Everyone go back, hurry! Midnight doesn't have many warriors and the trail isn't fresh, go go go!" I yelled and they rushed away. I followed them, in the rear. Thorn took the lead. I looked behind my shoulder, and saw no one was there. 'Our Tribe is dead if we don't hurry soon.'

I rushed to the head of the group, pushing as fast as my legs would go. I tried not to trip but eventually I knew I would. I pounded down the hill at such a force, I flipped over and rolled down the hill.

I hit a tree and my vision was dazed, the world spinning fast. I groaned and stood up, watching the group slid down the grassy hill.

I followed and we saw the blood before the battle. I charged at the first WindClan cat I saw and bit down hard on its neck. "Brindle, Shadow, Fox, get to the camp!" They didn't hesitate, they just rushed at the trail and climbed the way up.

I focused on the cat until I hit the main vein in the neck. Blood gushed out and he fell to the ground. "Get ThunderClan, Sedgewhisker!" A cat yowled and I leaped at the cat - supposedly Sedgewhisker - and ribbed out a chunk of meat in his shoulders. He yowled a blood curdling yowl, his head thrown back in agony. "If you and your Clan survive this, warn the rest of the Clans. We will get revenge for what you have taken. Blood on the territory or not, it's ours and what is ours will be taken back." I whispered in the trembling warrior. He nodded and I took a step back, watching the fear glint off the moonlight in the shine of his eyes.

I ran at the next victim and tore him off of Adder's limp body. I looked at him and shook him, he opened his eyes and he slashed me. "It's me you mouse-brain!" I growled and he gasped. I stalked at the cat who I threw off Adder, getting under him and throwing him a tail-length, or so, away, watching him roll into a boulder. I dashed at him again and leaped, out-stretching my claws and opening my mouth wide. The cat laid their, stunned, and I grabbed him in my claws, grabbing his chest and pulling down. I could feel my claws pulling out of my paws and I stopped as the cat started yowling in agony, blood gushing out of the wound every time his heart pounded.

He fought back and I threw blows at his face, feeling my claws hit the bone in his muzzle every time I hit his face. I finally was getting tired of beating him senseless so I rose my paw, unsheathed my claws until it hurt, and threw my paw down into the cats throat.

Blood splattered on my face from the impact. Blood gushed out of his throat as fast as a horse could run and he started gasping. Blood starting seeping out of his nose and mouth and his body convulsed. His eyes were wide with fear and he looked at me. I smirked. "Just remember, you're one last cat my Tribe has to deal with when we raid your camp." I growled in his ear. I stepped away as his eyes closed and his body fell still.

I tore through the maze of boulders and charged viciously into a cat who was attacking Thrush. The cat squealed in fright and I rolled away with the cat in my claws. I grabbed his shoulders and tore them until my paws were surly caked with his blood. He yowled in agony and I grabbed his throat with my teeth and before I could rip his throat out, a cat shoved me off of him and I rolled into a boulder. I saw that the cat I had in my jaws wasn't bleeding much, not enough to die. The cat who attacked me reared up on her hind legs and leaped at me. I ducked down and just as her claws touched my spine, I jumped up with all my strength, sending her flying into a rock. I left her as she struggled to get up and checked on Thrush. He was fighting another apprentice and I tore away at another cat who was attacking Mini. 'Why is Mini here?' I wondered, plowing into the cat who was pinning her down. My head combined with Minis' attackers side and I threw her onto a boulder, pinning her upright by the front legs. I hissed in her face and she snapped back, "You won't win this fight you dirty flea-bag!" My whiskers twitched in amusement and I bit down on her neck. She screeched and her body went still. I let go of her neck and legs. Something wasn't right. Before I could react, the she-cat opened her eyes and pushed her hind paws onto the boulder and slammed into my chest, front paws outstretched.

Her claws grabbed at my chest and I yelped in pain and surprise. My chest stung and I could feel warm blood start to coat my fur. I kicked harshly at her stomach and she was sent into the boulder I pinned her to. I turned around and stopped. The air was filled with agonizing screeches and hisses. My ears were crowded with the terrible sound of claws hitting flesh, tearing of flesh and bones being cracked.

Just as I stopped listening I aimed my claws at another cat, pushing forward. My muscles screamed to go rest and my chest was bleeding badly. I, so badly, wanted to ditch this battle and go to sleep but I knew we need all the cats we could get.

"WindClan, retreat! Retreat!" A yowl came from a professional sounding voice and WindClan gladly pounded away. Blood trailing from the wounded and some limping in pain, WindClan filled away. Some stopped to get the dead and some helped the wounded.

I padded up to where the leader - most likely the leader, as he looks - stood. I opened my mouth to speak but he silenced me and spoke before me. "Your Tribe is filthy. You don't deserve the territory you walk on. You are vicious and you shouldn't be proud of it. StarClan will get revenge on you, don't worry." he sneered, blood dripping a bit from a few small wounds on his face. "This isn't over, Venom." A growl rose in my throat but from amusement, not anger. "Oh, we know. This will never be over."

He turned tail and fled up the hill, out of sight. I growled and turned around. My eyes widened as my eyes took in the sight ahead of me. Blood was everywhere, splattered on the boulders and grass, pools of it laid where the dead and injured had been for a long time and I saw a few bodies still curled up - motionless - by the rocks. I spotted Blossom and rage pulsed through my veins almost immediately. I stomped over to her and stood over her beaten body. She recoiled when she stated into my eyes.

"What are you doing here?" I snapped, and she flinched. "I had to help, Venom, I couldn't stay in that nest while the fight was here. You have to understand, ple-" she begged, I noticed her paw. It was twisted around in an awkward way, worse then before. "Blossom, Leaf told you to stay in that nest because she knew your paw wouldn't be able to go through that pressure! Look what you've done to your paw, Blossom! Go to Leaf's den, now!" I yelled, and she started to limp away. "My twisted paw isn't the only thing that's my fault," she mumbled and my ears pricked. "What do you mean?" I sneered, stalking toward her. "If I had of listened to Leaf, Soot wouldn't of died. He died saving me," she murmured, her voice low. She kept going and I didn't stop her. I didn't saw anything else, just turned back and saw Soot's motionless body laying in a pool of blood.

I padded back to where his body laid and saw that his face was torn to shreds. One eye was tore open, liquid from his eyeball drying below the left socket. His right eye shone milky white and was distant, looking farther then the eye can see. His neck was tore as well, blood drying all over the gash. Cuts were scattered among his body and the smell, oh the smell, was deadly. I gagged as the smell of rotting flesh filled my nostrils and stained my tongue. I reluctantly drug Soot's body - what was left of it, anyway - to the trail and met up with Minight, who also was dragging a body. The brown and bloody body of Dodger was being drug limp up the trail. I felt a stone lodge my throat in grief as the warriors I was supposed to be protecting were being taken to the camp to be buried of later on. Their skulls would make it to the pile.

I drug Soot to the camp and laid him down beside Dodger. Warriors and apprentices started to come into the camp, waiting patiently to be treated and sent away.

I let out a small breath as I saw what our Tribe had become. Lily leaned on Thorn as they say in line to be treated, her leg having an open wound. Thorn's chest and shoulders were skinned and cut up, but he made no notice. My chest was still stinging greatly; every time I took a big breath in it opened the cuts again. I tried not to think about it.

Brindle carried Thrush in, Adder helping too. Thrush was still alive but he was dying of blood loss, blood drenching Brindle's grey coat. I shook my head.

'Why have I become such a fool? This battle has killed two and possibly more. WindClan will pay... I will make sure they get the pain they deserve.'
