Chapter 18
Midnight's P.O.V.
Night came quicker then I expected. Tonight, a huge blizzard was storming above. Venom said that we couldn't go out in this weather, two reasons, one because the twolegs couldn't hear us or see the bones in the morning and two because we might freeze to death. I padded into the warriors den, curling up into my nest. I closed my eyes and dreams slowly flowed into my mind. . .
I awoke in a dark, misty place, different shapes that I didn't recognize, definitely not from camp. A dark shape, like a cat outline, appeared just a few hawk wing-spans away. I narrowed my eyes and looked, stepping a bit closer to the shape. Another outline appeared beside the other one. The two shapes came closer and their pelts started to show who they were.
The first ones pelt was dark brown with scars scattered on its legs and chest. The second one was black with a white spot on his chest. 'Killer? Skull?' I wondered. It sure looked like them, that's what I knew. "Midnight. . . Now that your deputy, won't you join us?" The second cat whispered, his voice echoing. "W-who are you?" I stammered, still pretty sure it was Skull and Killer. "Don't you know?" The second one mewed. "It's us, Killer and Skull." The first one mewed. They were now straight in front of me. Killer unsheathed his claws and put one under my chin. "Won't you join us Midnight? Won't you follow in the paths Venom and we have?" 'Should I follow in their paths?' I asked myself. 'But if I don't, I might be killed or be exiled. . .' Hesitating for heartbeats, I finally nodded nervously, "Yes." They smiled but said nothing more, fading away. Black mist of their outline was all that was left of them and I woke up with a jolt. Soot was kicking me in his sleep.
I saw movement in the corner of my eye and noticed Blossom was padding out of the den. I looked up, "What are you doing?" I whispered. She whipped her head around and stammered, "I- um I'm going. . . Out for a small walk. I can't sleep," she hurried out of the den and I shrugged. 'What else could she possibly be doing? Running off to be in WindClan or something?' I pushed Soot over and closed my eyes again, letting my dreams take over me.

Sunny's P.O.V.
I lifted my head off of my paws in pain. I could barely breath, my body was in a mixture of hot and cold, as if I were standing on something hot while a cold pile of snow was on my back. I stood up and saw a dark shape outlined of where I was sleeping on the cave floor. 'I sweated that much?!' I wondered.
I slowly stumbled out of Venom's den. The cold night air hit me like a stone, all my body told me to do was go curl up in Venom's legs again. I stumbled my way into Leaf's medicine den. I now was out of breath and felt so cold now. I prodded Leaf's side gently, waking her up. Her eyes were sleepy and reluctant to wake up but as much as she didn't want to, she sat up. "What is it?" She mewed quietly. "I-I don't know, I'm cold and hot," I wheezed. "Are you cold and hot now?" She asked, touching my forehead with a paw. "Only cold," I replied. She nodded but didn't reply. She turned around and searched in her medicine store, pulling out a few leaves. She chewed them up and passed it to me. I sniffed it, it made we wrinkle my nose in disgust, but I licked it up. "Ew, yuck," I hissed to myself.
She put her paw in my face, "Here, lick these up. They take away pain and help you sleep." I licked them up and surprisingly, they didn't taste all that bad. "Now, you need to stay in the den for a while, I need to keep and eye on you." Leaf murmured, padding up to her den, "And don't be afraid to wake me up if the poppy seeds wear off," I nodded and laid down on my side in a nest, not caring that I was taking up two of them. I blinked my eyes closed and let the dreams flood back instantly.
(Wow, sorry that these are getting really short!)

Midnight's P.O.V.
It had been 2 and a half moons sense that odd dream I had. News flash, the twolegs are angrier then ever now. Each night, except a few stormy ones, we would go to each nest and set bones on their grass, yowl for them to come out and fight their dogs to either death or so it ran away. We thought this would SCARE them away, not make them angry and try to kill us! Recently, we almost lost Adder to a twoleg. Luckily, Leaf saved him. He was poisoned by a twoleg, tempted by a mouse on its grassy territory. We all screeched at him to come back but his legs dragged him on and he was poisoned. Now all the twolegs are trying to kill us, anyway they can find.
Sunny, however, had fever, Thrush had whitecough and Shadow had greencough. Leaf only had enough catmint for one time, one cat, so her and Strike went out to ShadowClan to find some. I made Dodger and Thorn go with them. Why ShadowClan is my question. They probably kill their cats if they get sick! "One of these days, Leaf, your going to regret ever crossing into the Clan's territory for medicine," I warned to her as her and the others left the camp.
As the day pushed on, patrol after patrol came back and left for another. I sighed, laying down and setting my head on my paws. I watched Mini come out and stretch in the dim light that the clouds just barely let us have. Mini was getting close to kitting, only a few days now and she would have Mystery's kits. Venom padded out of his den and stretched, trotting over to Leaf's den to check on Sunny and the others. 'I hope the Tribe of Glittering Stars is watching to help over them. We can't afford to loose anymore cats,'
I watched as Venom came out of the medicine den and padded up to me. "How come you didn't tell me to wake up? I could've gone on a patrol!" He hissed. 'That was random. . .' I thought to myself, not daring to say it aloud. "Sorry Venom, I thought you could use some extra sleep," I mewed. For the past moon he hasn't gotten the amount of sleep he needs. He says he is to worried about Sunny; there must be something he isn't telling us. . . Leaf should find out soon and tell us anyway. He rolled his eyes, "I don't NEED to sleep! I'm fine! You should've woken me up so I could check on Sunny and go on a patrol!" He complained. 'He REALLY needs to get more sleep.' "Look, Venom, I know how you protective of you are of Sunny and all but you need to sleep. You haven't gotten enough. Either it's me to tell you or Leaf. Choose." I ordered. He should get the message. He flattened his ears and curled his lips, "Don't tell me what to do! I'm your leader, not you!" I rolled my eyes and shook my head, "Venom! Go, i'll wake you up if Sunny needs you!" He growled but said nothing more, stalking back into his cave. "You should fetch him some poppy seeds, it'll help him sleep." Mini called to me. "What do they look like, do you know?" I called back, racing to the medicine den, "They should look like seeds, very small. Only a few though!" I nodded and grabbed the pile of tiny seeds, pushing a few onto my pad. 'Only 5 looks like it would keep Venom asleep for only a few heartbeats! I'll add a little more.' I decided. I added just a bit more, about 5 or 6 to be exact. I exited the den, holding my paw up and awkwardly and padding over to Venom's cave.
Venom was scratching the floor of his den with his eyes wide open. "Venom, eat these. They'll help you sleep." He narrowed his eyes and hesitated for a bit, but he did lick them up. I left him alone and padded out to see Mini. "How did you know about medicine?" I asked her. "When I had greencough as an apprentice, she gave me them constantly when she gave me catmint and I eventually learned what they were for and what they looked like." She murmured. I nodded, "Makes sense,"
I looked over at the entrance as paws came thumping in. I stood up in defense but sat down when I noticed it was only Kink's patrol, with her apprentice and Blossom. "What is it?" I asked as they halted in the clearing. "WindClan! They're trying to get through! Luckily, Mystery's patrol met up with us; Strike and Leaf didn't get attacked." Kink explained. "They need help I'm guessing?" I meowed. They nodded. I ran up to the High Stone, and yowled, "With Venom sleeping, I will announce the patrol," The cats here turned their attention to me and listened when I spoke again, "Kink, stay here with your patrol. I will take the patrol with, Fox, Whip and Deer. Bella, find another patrol and come to the territory line." I turned back to Kink, "How many are there?" "Oh, many Midnight! Many!" She sneered, clawing the ground. "Kink, never mind what I said before, find more patrols, go!" She ran off and Bella followed. "Fox, Whip, Deer, come with me," I meowed, running to the entrance. The three came up behind me and I dashed out of our camp.
The territory line came quicker then I wanted, and the sight of WindClan fighting back stronger just about made me pass out. WindClan has more prey then us through the leaf-fall and leaf-bare so they were most likely stronger then us. . . At the moment. Deer, Fox and Whip darted into the battle and I did too, just a bit slower. I saw Leaf protecting Strike and I jumped in. I pushed the WindClan cat out of the way and slashed his face. "Run Leaf! Go back to camp!" I yowled. I heard her run and small paws following. The cat under my paws was kicking and thrashing underneath me. I bit down on his sleek coat and pulled up, blood following in my jaws' path. The cat screeched in pain and laid perfectly still. Shock was settling in.
I got off him and ran into the battle once again. I whacked a cats head, one that tried to kill Mystery, making him stumble. Mystery hissed at the cat and attacked him again. I ran at Brindle, who was getting beaten by a much larger cat then her, and jumped onto the cat's spine. It yowled in surprise and it thrashed under me. He bucked me off and I was sent flying almost a tail length in the air. 'What a strong cat! We could use him. . .'
I slid on the snowy ground and raced back at him. I dived at his side and knocked him down. I leaped at him again and pinned him down. "We could've used you," I snarled, curling my lips. "You might've been a great cat in our Tribe." The cat hissed and struggled under me. "I'll let you go if you come in the Tribe." I growled slashing his eye. He shook his head and wailed, "I will never leave my Clan for your bloody Tribe! I promised I would protect my Clan over anything, and I'm going to keep it!" "Suit yourself," I hissed butting down on his throat, snapping it with my killing bite. 'What's happening to me. . .' I wondered silently. 'I'm turning into Venom!'
The battle seemed to go on forever from there. WindClan warriors to WindClan apprentices ran off to go back to their camp, fleeing from our claws. With the help of two other patrols, it made our job so much easier. I helped Kink pad back to camp, letting her lean on my shoulder. When we got back to our camp, Leaf and Stitch were waiting for us at the entrance to her medicine den. I helped Kink over and laid her down. She was injured in her leg, a large, deep cut and her paw has a wrenched claw by the looks of it. "How's Sunny, Thrush and Shadow doing?" She looked up from her supplies and shook her head, whispering as she got closer, "Thrush and Shadow are doing just fine. But Sunny on the other paw is getting worse. She went from fever to greencough not long ago." She turned away and went back to Kink's side, preparing a poultice for her cuts. "Also, Sunny is expecting kits." My eyes widened. 'That's why Venom has been so protective of her!' I nodded, "Do you think she'll live to have them?" She shrugged, "It depends how much strength she has when the time comes," Leaf's voice was muffled a bit by the leaves she held in her mouth. I watched as she placed the poultice on the wound, wrapping it up in cobwebs.
I decided to change the subject, not wanting Leaf to start getting crabby about the questions I was asking. "So, has Venom woken up yet?" I asked. She looked up, her eyes filled with confusion. "Why is he asleep? I thought he was on patrol?" She narrowed her eyes. "Sorry, I had to give him poppy seeds. He wouldn't rest because he was worried about Sunny." Kink sat up and began to pad away, calling back, "I'm going to go to my nest. . ." Leaf nodded and got up, trotting to Venom's den. "How many did you feed him?" She asked. "Like, 10 or 11, 5 seemed not much." I replied, catching up as she entered Venom's den. "10!" She gasped. "Or 11, mind you." She rolled her eyes, "Three was enough to keep Venom asleep for a quarter of a day!" She yowled. "Hey! I'm not the medicine cat here. I didn't know." "Exactly! You shouldn't have been in my supplies in the first place!" Leaf spat. "Now he won't wake up for ages!"
She lashed her tail back and forth in anger, her ears back. It felt like centuries went by before Leaf's ears straightened up, most likely in thought. She turned her head with a smirk plastered to her face. "Let's wake him up the hard way."
