I'm so sorry, Marinette, but ...

Adrien Agreste was dating Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

Adrien Agreste was terrified.

Adrien Agreste was pacing.

Adrien didn't want to spend the night hanging from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

"You ok, dude?" Nino asked.

"No, not really." Adrien wrung his fingers through each other, heart beating hard in response for what he was about to do.

"It'll be ok, man. We're all here for you." Nino clamped a hand down on Adrien's shoulder, leaving his best buddy to deal with the situation he'd gotten himself into.

If there was one thing that Adrien never wanted to do it was to hurt his Lady.

They'd been dating for three amazing months and he'd never been happier, but sometimes happiness had a bump in the road and they were just about to reach theirs.

Their first bump. He just prayed the bump wouldn't end up with him being thrown out the car.

He couldn't explain how it happened, it just seemed too, well, happen.

It wasn't a quick lack of judgement, it wasn't sudden, he had more sense than that.

It was a slow building process where one thing led to another and before he knew it, he'd given it all.

Adrien took a few more steps and sighed. The flashback to each time playing in his mind. She looked so cute standing there, so cute and so happy. He was the reason for her happiness and for some reason he wanted to keep being the reason.

He should have stopped weeks ago. It wasn't fair. But it was like a drug, a wonderfully displayed drug which took his breath away.

"Hi Sunshine, how are you holding up?" Alya was next to greet him as he waited on the school steps for Marinette.

"I've been better." He responded. He was amazed how supportive Alya had been about this. She was Marinette's best friend, yet she was fine about this, even encouraged it.

"She'll understand, Adrien. You know Marinette, she always wants the best for people."

"But I shouldn't have said she could have it, I shouldn't have just given it all to her. We've only been together for three months, Alya, and I've already been weak."

"Exactly! It's been three months. Not three years. You'd be in such a worse situation if you'd left this longer."

Adrien nodded, Alya was right. He just needed to do it now. He wrapped Alya in a tight hug, thanking her for being so understanding and supportive. He didn't deserve it, not when he was about to take everything back from her best friend.

Looking over towards the bakery he noticed Marinette at the crosswalk.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

A girl so wonderful, so bright, so smart. A girl he was about to disappoint, to sadden, to feel things he never wanted her to feel.

Taking a deep breath he headed towards her. It was now or never.

"Hi," she greeted him with her usual smile and placed a soft, gentle kiss on his lips. Usually he'd melt at such affection but today all he could do was grimace.

The shocked look on her face made his heart ache.

"We need to talk ... privately."

Her eyes widened and her beautiful, glossy lips turned down. He couldn't look at her, instead he grabbed her hand and dragged her along behind him.

Just to the side of the atrium was a bench anyone rarely sat at, slightly hidden from the prying eyes of their classmates. A bench where he spent many seconds, minutes, hours worshipping Marinette's lips. She was such a great kisser, he would miss that.

Guiding her to the bench, he allowed her to sit down first before sliding on next to her.

"Marinette, this is really hard for me to say-"

Adrien stopped to take a deep breath. He looked at the wonderful blue eyes of his girlfriend. The girl he'd wanted for years and the girl he had to woo just to get to this place with her. He adored her so much, but he had to tell her.

"What's wrong, Kitty?" Her eyes were wide and she looked as terrified as he felt.

"I - um - I ..." he trailed off, placing one hand on the back of his neck in a nervous twitch. "I'm so sorry I'm saying this, Marinette, but -"

"Adrien, just tell me, I'm scared."

He could see the way her eyes were tearing up and that he was the one upsetting her. He never wanted to hurt her, it wasn't his intention. He took a deep breath and just let it out.

"Marinette, I need some of my t-shirts back from you, I'm - um - I'm running out of clothes."
