Chapter 4

"Mom no!"

The door opened, and a woman in her early forties looked at the girl who was standing in the middle of the room, before looking at David too who was laying on the couch reading a comic.

"Aw honey, why didn't you tell me that you have a girl over?I wouldn't say anything." And without taking a second look at her,she walked back upstairs,as Chris closed the door sighing in relief.

"That was a bit close." He ruffled his hair, looking at David as he grabbed the comic from his hand, smacking it on his face."I told you to hide her!"

"I tried."

Chris glared at him and then looked at the girl, who was still gazing at the door.

"Emilia are you alright?" He placed his hands on her grip, that was so tight which was surprising the apple didn't explode in her hands.

"I am sorry my almighty, but meeting your mother like that was..bizarre." She blinked and looked away, blushing as their hands were touching.

"Ew,get a room." David flipped open another comic.

"You are lucky you aren't dead yet,but get your ass up,we need to think what we would do with her."

"Easy,she stays with you."

She blushed, looking at David."From now? It's against the tradition!" Her voice cracked, her hands pulled away from Chris feeling herself getting bright red.

"I don't understand anything,we will need to look through some myth history." Chris gently pushed her towards the two black sofas that were facing each other.

Chris and David sitting on one and Emilia right across on the other sofa, resting her hands that were holding the apple on her lap.

Chris opened his laptop, typing something on the internet as Emilia was looking at the object of technology with big eyes.

"Alright here we are,Greek mythology." Chris moved the mouse to an option that said 'Tradition' and clicked it.

As Chris was reading to himself and trying to find what they need,David looked over to Emilia with a confused stare, but snapped out of it when Chris tugged his arm.

"Found it!The tradition of marriage.Marriage between people always happened between the two families of the groom and bride, they didn't know each other, and the marriages happened for benefits of each side of the family that they will have. The way of a girl would be accepted by the groom depended on what she will give him, either on money worth or something else valuable. This was more common in the society of Ancient Greece, since some royal families differ to one another. The most common way for a young man to propose to the young lady who he wants to marry,in Ancient Greece,is by throwing an apple to the girl. This action signifies that the man asked the woman in marriage, and if the woman catches the apple,it means that she accepted."

She smiled, nodding happily as she rubbed her thumb on the apple.

"Oh come on,it was an accident!Just because I fall and missed my target that means marriage! And out of all fruits,it needed to be an apple!" Chris huffed, falling back on the sofa as the smile on Emilia's face disappeared.

"Accident? You mean this was all a mistake?" She was on the verge of tears, gripping the apple, somewhat wanting to throw it at his face.

"We will talk about this later." David pointed out and moved the laptop towards his side,as Chris was still groaning in annoyance."It has more on that, but it basically says that the groom and bride can't have a moment together until after the marriage,so staying with you is a bit impossible. She might die from embarrassment from even seeing you without a shirt on."

"So,you will take her?" Chris looked over to David, who sighed in regret.

"Looks like yes."

"At least she won't be that suspicious there."

"True, but I hope." He closed the laptop,as both boys looked at her.

She looked at them, feeling a bit uncomfortable from their stares."Please, will you both stop doing that? It's a bit uncomfortable."

"If you feel uncomfortable, then how he should feel that he has to marry you?" He said pointing over to Chris,as the brown haired gave a glare at David.

She lowered her head, her curly hair covering her face."I am sorry I am not good enough, but sadly this is how Gods and Goddesses wanted me to look like.If I am not enough, then I am sorry for not being a good enough bride to be by your side."

She stood up,walking over towards his side and fall on her knees, apologizing.

"David what the hell! You made her feel bad!"

"She isn't the first."

Chris huffed and helped her to stand up,noticing the white dress she was still wearing."Look, you will need to change into, normal clothes, and you will stay over to David's place until we find out what we are going to do with you, alright?"

She just nodded, looking up into his green eyes making her blush."Anything for you,my almighty."

"Please just call me Chris, other people might get weird out hearing that." He nervously laughed, patting her head making her blush more with a smile.

"I hope you two lovebirds finished because it is time to leave."David stood up,grabbing his backpack.

"We aren't lovebirds!" Chris said groaning."My heart belongs somewhere else."

Emilia looked at him with widen eyes.

"Wha-!"

"No more questions, time to go!" The black haired boy grabbed her hand, dragging her upstairs and towards the front door hearing both Chris and his mother telling them goodbye.

The way to David's place was rather long, and silent, with none of them talking, and even if Emilia wanted to say something, with a small side of his glance she would shut her mouth, almost afraid of him.

"We are almost here, but I warn you,we will be in the same room since we are in the same age,and leave me talk about you,you won't say a thing, got it?"

"Alright scary man." She looked around, noticing the building of the houses slowly fading away as she noticed a rather bigger house, with big gates, fence, and a long garden."Wow!You sure live as an aristocrat or even as a king scary man!"

His fingers turned into fists, slowly shaking, but managed to press the button at the entrance, making a buzz sound.

"Can't you read what it says?"

"Oh,excuse me,but I haven't learned,reading and writing wasn't the top priority for a woman of the house,only for males."

Another buzz sound could be heard,as David pushed the gate door once he heard it,looking away with a huff.

"It says,'Saint Jerome Emiliani's Orphanage'."

He walked forward,as she followed with a confused gaze, looking around.

She suddenly noticed a man, older in age, watering the plants and flowers of the garden humming happily.

"Stay here for a second." He whispered to her and she stopped walking, watching him walk up to the old man.

"Father Donald."

The man looked over to the young boy and smiled, resting the watering pot to the side.

"David, come here my son.Tell me about your day,was it full of learning?"

She tilted her head, watching those two talk before her attention was pulled towards the flowers, making her smile.

Her fingers slowly caressed the petals, noticing that they were just watered, feeling the leaves of the flower slowly wrapping around her hand.

"I see you love the garden."

She gasped, quickly pulling away seeing the old man from before and David behind him, giving her a small glare.

"No need to be afraid my child.God's house is always welcome and open to anyone who seek shelter."

"That is very kind of you Father Donald, may Gods and Goddesses bless you."

He raised an eyebrow, looking at her."My child, there is only one God,and the others are just His saints."

She gazed at David who just made her signals.

"Yes,yes,I am sorry!I am not feeling very good actually, and I don't know what I am saying sometimes." David made thumbs up,sighing in relief as Father Donald smiled.

"Then let us not wait any longer! The Sisters have prepared a delightful dinner, which you are welcome my dear Emilia."

She smiled and bowed to him."Thank you Father."

"David, make sure to show your friend, and also roommate, around the orphanage, and ask the Sisters for some clothes for her."

"I will Father, thank you for letting her stay."

"Don't thank me,but God who created a roof for us to stay under."

He smiled and slowly walked away, picking up the watering pot again as he kept watering the plants.

"You heard him,lets go."

She looked over to him, smiling as he gave her a glare.

"What's with that stupid smile?"

"You are actually a good person."

"I am not always a jerk you know.I respect some people." He rolled his eyes huffing.

"Maybe you are scary, but a kind and good scary." She walked past him, wearing a small smile on her face as she headed for the front door of the building, still holding the apple close to herself.

"Hey!Don't get the wrong idea!I am nothing near good towards you!You should fear me!You hear me?!"

He tried to catch up with her,a small blush dusted on his pale cheeks as she giggled to herself.
