9: I hate that you hate me right now
I awoke Sunday morning at 4 a.m. to my phone ringing.
"Let me sleep." I said answering the phone before hanging it up and going back to bed.
It rang again.
"What do you want!" I snapped into the phone tired.
"Sorry to wake you honey, but I thought I would call to let you and your sister know that we will be flying in at 5 p.m. tonight," my mother spoke on the phone.
I groaned. My mom always calls at the most inconvenient times.
"Its 4 a.m.!"
"Sorry!" She apologized again.
I groaned tiredly into the phone.
"It's noon where we are..." my mother droned on.
I only half listened as she talked about the newest place she and dad had traveled to for their job.
I had only just went to bed an hour ago and was so tired from only getting an hour of sleep. The party went on until almost 3 in the morning.
Uh-oh. The party.
The house was a complete utter mess.
"Uh, that's lovely mom. I'll talk to you when you come home! Bye, love you!" I said, interrupting her and then hanging up my phone.
Instead of flopping back into my bed, I got up and almost stepped on a sleeping body.
Colton was laying on my floor, passed out.
I must not have noticed him when I crawled into bed last night.
I looked at him for a moment, before taking my blanket and draping it over him.
I was still wearing the clothes Selena picked out for me yesterday, so I grabbed a pair of leggings and a gray t-shirt promoting Metallica on tour and brought them into my bathroom to change.
I threw my hair into a messy bun before rushing downstairs and going into the closet that held all of our cleaning supplies.
Grabbing a large contracter bag, I began shoving garbage into it left and right- most being empty liquor bottles and cans.
I moved robotically yet tiredly, mechanically cleaning up everything, without any actual thought, humming to Katy Perry's I kissed A Girl off key.
The two hours it took me to clean all the trash in the house, went by in a blur, and I was surprised I did not wake Colton or Selena up when I vacuumed the carpet.
It was 9 a.m. by the time I finished cleaning the inside up spotless with mopped floors and shining clean counters and tables.
I made my way outside and was devastated to see that it was ten times messier than the inside.
4 hours, 2 monster energy drinks, and 7 contractor bags later, it was almost 1 p.m. and I had just finished putting away my drumset, keyboard, and karaoke machine and was now mowing the trash free lawn.
I was exhausted but the energy drinks seemed to do their job, keeping me awake.
"Bri?" I heard someone yell.
I cut the motor to the mower and looked up to see Jack peaking his head through his bedroom window.
"Hi.. " I said.
"Is your sister up?"
"I don't know."
"How long have you been up?"
"Since 4 this morning." I answered.
"What-are you serious?"
"Yeah. I'm tired." I said, feeling my head droop. I shook my head and started the lawn mower back up. I just had to finish mowing the lawn and I would be done.
I felt my eyelids droop as I walked forwards the noise of the lawn mower jerking me back awake.
I felt someone tap my shoulder before, cutting the motor once more and turning to face them.
It was Jack.
"C'mon, let's get you to bed." Jack told me, grabbing my arm and leading me towards the house.
"But I need to clean," I whined.
"You need to sleep." He dragged me up the stairs. "Which one is your room?"
I pointed at a door, and he opened it, to find Colton still on my floor, with my blanket.
He hadn't moved so much as an inch since this morning.
"I hope he's not dead." I whispered, suddenly worried.
"If he's not, he will be," Jack said cracking his knuckles. "He should know better then to sleep in this room."
"Stop," I ordered. "He was so drunk last night he was running into walls, so I brought him up here."
Jack glared at Colton one last time, before jerking my blanket off of him, handing it to me, and gently pushing me towards my bed.
He grabbed Colton by the arm, and shook him hard.
"What-where am I?" Colton asked, awake.
"Where you shouldn't be." Jack replied evenly.
Colton looked between me and Jack confused.
"You have three seconds to get out."
"But-"
"One..."
Colton sprang up off the door, only giving me a brief look, before rushing out the door.
"Your so mean." I whined.
"Bed."
I flopped onto my bed, curling around my balled up blanket instead of wrapping it around me.
As soon as I closed my eyes, I fell into a deep dreamless sleep.
It felt like only a couple of seconds had passed when I opened my eyes, awake because I heard my phone vibrate against my wooden nightstand. Looking at my digital alarm clock, I saw that it was seven p.m. I had gotten seven hours of sleep almost.
I picked up my phone and saw that I got a text from Elijah.
Actually it was four different texts.
12:30 p.m.
Elijah: Hey
1:22 p.m.
Elijah: r u up?
3:01 p.m.
Elijah: I feel like ur ignoring me
Now
Elijah: I know that your upset at me for last night at the party, but I'm really sorry and I want to talk to you please please please respond to me. I hate that you hate me right now
I couldn't help but giggle at his messages. It was just so....cute that he was so worried.
Me: Sorry, I just woke up. I'm not mad or upset at you.
His reply came almost immediately.
Elijah: Thank god. You have no idea how relieved I am lol
I felt myself smile as I typed back to him
Me: haha what are you doing?
Elijah: babysisting
Me: fun lol
We made some more small talk before I put my phone down to use the bathroom.
"Mom!" I heard Selena squeal loudly, followed by an embarrassed laugh.
I made my way downstairs to see my mom, dad, Selena and Jack, all in the living room.
You could tell where Selena got her good looks when you compare them to our parents.
She stole my mom's dark brown hair, pouty lips, and heart shaped face and my fathers deep brown eyes, perfectly sloped nose and natural tan.
I inherited my mothers hazel eyes and pale skin, and my fathers dishwater blonde hair. And their intelligence.
Before working for the travel agency, my father was a brain surgeon and my mom was a plastic surgeon, only a couple years ago they retired from saving lives and changing faces, so that they could travel the world, first class and free of charge.
They were all laughing, carrying a pleasant conversation, not noticing that I was standing in the door way.
"Hi." I said after standing there for a few minutes, feeling awkward and annoyed that they didn't notice me.
"Oh honey- you woke up!" My mom said, standing up with a clap of her hands.
"Selena told us about your sleepover last night. What were you thinking? Trying to stay up for twenty-four hours? That's insane!" My dad said, as my parents engulfed me in a hug.
"I missed you too." I said hugging back.
And I did. As much as I love living without my parents constantly nagging at me, it's a relief to have a little bit of order in the house, not to mention the comfort that you can only get from a mom and dad.
My parents had brought home some Chinese takeout and I soon found myself heating up my portion of the food that was set aside for me.
I was bummed to find that there was hardly any sweet and sour chicken left for me and my noodles were a bit soggy.
Guess that's what I get for sleeping in.
I made my way back to the living room with my food and a can of Dr. Pepper.
Selena was in the middle of telling a story, her eyes bright and flinging her hands in a bunch of directions.
I only had to listen for a couple of moments to realize she was telling her side of the band auditions.
"He was captivated by my voice- they all were!" She exclaimed.
I let out a small huff, that no one noticed, before going back up to my room with my food.
I did not need to be put into a bad mood right now.
So instead, I binged watched Supernatural and ate Chinese.
