Penny's POV
"You have everything?"
"I have everything, Mom."
"Wand? Owl? Oh goodness, that all sounds so weird to say--"
"Mom. I'm going to miss the train if I don't hurry."
My mom smiles, her eyes full of tears. She envelopes me in a tight hug, and I hug back.
"Penny, please be safe," she says. "Especially with that Wizarding War starting up, I'm starting to wonder if moving to London was such a good idea..."
I sigh, brushing a piece of brown hair out of my eyes. "Two years, Mom. That's all I have to stay here for. Then we can go back to the United States and get homeless and be obese with every other American citizen."
She manages a laugh. "I'm sorry your dad couldn't be here."
"It's fine," I tell her. "He needs to work, and he's had this business trip planned for months. I said good-bye to him before he left, so it's all good."
"Well..." my mom wipes her eyes. "Be good. Be safe. Don't get in trouble. Get good grades. And I'll see you for Christmas break."
"Definitely," I promise, giving her another hug. "Love you."
"Love you too."
I finally shoo my mom away, a little embarrassed that she had to help me carry my suitcase into Platform 9 3/4. Like being the new kid isn't going to be hard enough... the new American kid! I'm probably the only American girl out of everyone going to this school.
Turns out, without my mom's help, my suitcase is very heavy. Trying to drag that through the crowd of people with my owl cage--my owl Skittles inside--is proving to be difficult.
"Bonjour, my name eez Remi Lupis. Do you need any 'elp?"
I jump in surprise, and feel my face turn red as I see a girl about my age standing before me. She has long, straight dark brown hair, and wide caramel eyes with flecks of gold in them. There are a few long, thin scars on her arms, which are very tan.
Not trusting my voice, I nod quickly. She smiles at me, then helps pick up my suitcase.
"I'm Penny Rich," I say, giving her a small smile in return, not showing any teeth. I don't like showing my teeth when I smile.
She nods approvingly, and gestures for me to follow her. I carry Skittles as she leads me toward the train. Right before we board, she slips on something and falls on her back. I wince as she makes a small noise of pain. When she sits up again, I hear her mutter "ow."
Not sure what to do, my mind still racing at someone actually talking to me, I hurriedly try to grab my suitcase and help Remi up. But a boy--a very attractive boy--cuts me off and picks up Remi's suitcase before I get to it.
"Are you okay?" he asks as I awkwardly stand next to Remi. By the look on her face, she has no idea who the boy is, but is in awe at his hotness. "You're carrying a lot."
"Um. Yes. 'Ank you."
I guess I'm not the only one who gets nervous when talking to new people.
"I'm Remus Lupin," the boy says, and my jaw almost drops. The two basically have the same exact name! And his British accent is enough to make my heart explode.
The two talk a little more as my eyes travel around the rest of the platform. I take notice of two girls racing each other towards the train, not slowing down as they jump on.
"Penny!" Remi's voice says, and my attention snaps back to where I am. Remus is gone. "Do you vant to sit vit me and my friends? We just transfered 'ere from Beauxbatons, and from ze looks of it, you are new 'ere as vell."
"Yeah," I say quietly. "That would be great."
"Vat year are you in?" she asks as we step onto the train.
"Sixth. You?"
"I as vell! Yay, zis vill be awesome."
Remi peeks into each compartment as we pass. There are endless amounts of students, most of them younger than us. Finally, she makes an "ooh!" noise, and slides the glass door open. I follow after her.
There are two other girls in there--actually, it's the two girls that I saw racing each other. What amuses me is that all four of us look similar. Three of us have brown hair, although their's is straight. The other girl has straight black hair and grayish eyes, while the other unnamed girl has eyes that are hazel with a green-blue tinge and brown around the iris. They're a beautiful color, but are hid behind glasses.
"I WON! Sucker," Grey Eyes says, smirking triumphantly.
The one with glasses rolls her eyes "You cheated," she says stubbornly, before her eyes land on me. "Aw, Remi, you found yourself another friend! Anyways, hi, I'm Janie Porter, and she" --Janie gestures to the other girl-- "is Lynx White."
"Ze eez Penny," Remi tells her friends, gesturing to me. For the first time--honestly, I think I've been quite oblivious towards Remi's accent--I notice that their accents aren't British.
As if reading my thoughts, Jily--Janet--I already forgot her name--speaks up. "Where are you from? You don't sound British."
"Neither do you," I say back. "And I'm from the United States."
"Cool," Janet--Janie--says. "I'm Australian, Lynx is a hardcore Brit, and Remi has lived in France since she was four. But Lynx and I probably sound a little French since we've been going to Beauxbatons for the past few years."
"Well, I've never heard a French accent before, but you definitely have it..." I trail off. "Anyways, you said you went to Beauxbatons? Why're you here, then?"
"Got expelled," Lynx says casually, and my jaw drops.
"Expelled?!" My mind races. Am I making friends with criminals? I thought they snapped people's wands if they were expelled! They're probably going to pressure me into taking drugs!
"'Ey!" Remi laughs. "Do not worry, vee are not awful people or anyzing. Vee just enjoyed pranking... a lot. And our profezors did not like pranking."
I purse my lips, still slightly afraid that the three girls will suddenly pin me to the ground and pull a gun out.
"Seriously, chill out," Janie says, giggling a little. "I swear, we won't try to kill you or force you to take cigarettes or some gangster thing like that."
"And we promise we won't prank you, either," Lynx tells me honestly. "That is, if we become friends. You can join our group, and we can all prank together!"
I hesitate, not sure what to say. What if I get expelled for playing a prank, like these girls did? My parents would probably die of shame, then come back to life just so they can kill me.
But Lynx, Janie, and Remi honestly seem like nice girls... And they're the only people willing to be my friends so far.
"Alright."
Lynx's POV
Sirius....Sirius...where have I heard that name before...Siri-SIRIUS! THAT'S IT!!!
Sirius Black, oh how I have missed him. Leaving your childhood best friend wasn't the easiest thing...
Especially when everyone else around you is rude, proper, and
straight up cunts. (WHAT'S WITH THE LANGUAGE! I WOULD CHANGE IT, BUT I THINK EVERYONE ELSE WOULD BE CONFUSED BY, "Especially when everyone else around you is rude, proper, and straight up cats." -ElysiaXD)
I wonder how Sirius was coping with Regulas and the rest of his family, I know I couldn't deal with people like that for long.
That was most likely why I was disowned. I am a rebel. I can't stand the judging, and having to be all proper and perfect.
When my rebellious stage started, my family took their harassment to the next level, verbal abuse. But, when they took it to physical abuse, I couldn't take it anymore, and I exploded.
Oh, and getting expelled might have a contributing factor.
I was so deep in thought I didn't hear the boys slip back in to the compartment. I looked up and saw Sirius, he was sitting next to me.
"SIRIUS!" I shouted, the entire compartment went silent.
"WHAT?" He asked with the same volume.
"ITS LYNX!! DONT YOU REMEMBER ME!?!? YOU WERE LITERALLY THE BEST THING IN MY LIFE, FOR THE FIRST LIKE TEN YEARS!" I shouted excitedly.
The realization must have hit him like a bus, because in a matter of seconds he was tackling me in a hug. We soon broke the hug, realizing that there were confused people in the compartment. So we explained everything until they understood.
During the ride, I caught up with Sirius. To be honest, it was sort of awkward.
Not him, it was Janie.
She was giving me this look that screamed 'OTP OTP! JUST MAKE BABIES ALREADY!'
You know that look...? No...?
As much as I love her she can get very annoying. So can Remi, she has those fangirl skills.
My mind wanders to Hogwarts and the houses.
My parents told me about the sorting, how everyone in our family has been in Slytherin. Well, hopefully that will soon be changed.
Technically I am still part of that horrid family, they just want absolutely nothing to do with me. At least that's how I think of it.
I look into the dark sky, and my eyes widen seeing the beautiful castle that sits in the distance.
From the corner of my eye, I see Remi, Janie and Penny gawking at it as well.
"It's beautiful." I mutter.
We turn back to the boys, who are smirking at us in amusement.
Sirius speaks up first.
"Welcome to Hogwarts."
