Chapter Five: Make them smile

I woke up the next morning to a disappointment. Natsu was no longer by my side as he was when I drifted off last night.

I looked over at my desk and spotted a white piece of paper. I moved the blankets off my legs and stood up slowly, walking over to the wooden desk.

I picked it up with one hand. It was from Natsu.

' Lucy, im very sorry I had to go. I didn't want to leave you alone, unfortunately it was my time. I cant come back again. You must know that I was very lucky to have the privilege of returning this time. I know, it may not seem fair. But you have to listen to me.

Some day, when it is your time...you can join me, forever. Lucy, promise me that you will smile brightly, everyday. Please bring joy back to the guild. I hate to hear that it isn't the same way I had left it. I love you, so much Lucy.

I was planning on making you my wife. But seeing as I am no longer alive, I don't see how that is possible. Please at least attempt to move on. Try to have a new life. I will always love you Lucy. Don't forget me.

Love, Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail. '

I smiled. Even though behind it was a vast ocean of sorrow. He was planning on marrying me, I would have been glad to say yes too.

I could never have thought the man I would fall in love with could be so different than I imagined. He was the most amazing thing that had every happened to me.

He asked to to bring joy back into this the guild. It wont be false happiness either. It will be pure and sincere.

I will bring meaning to the world guild once more. I will do it for the love of my life and for the people I'd consider family.

I put the note down and went over to my dresser, getting out the brightest things I could find. Before putting them on and walking out the door.

When I entered Fairy Tail, I slammed the doors open and plastered on a wide grin.

Everyone looked at me in question. "You are in an oddly good mood, Lucy." Wendy spoke.

I looked around at everyone. Most of them where balling and drinking in silence.

That's when I remembered. Today is the second anniversary of Natsu's death. Today, I was the only one who felt no pain.

My grin turned into a soft smile. "What would Natsu say, if he could see us now?"

People began to turn their heads to gaze at me.

"He'd be very disappointed in all of us." I added a few moments later.

Erza nodded her head in agreement.

"I'm going to put a smile on my face everyday, no matter what I'm going through." I said.

"Lucy, honestly I don't think its even possible to smile anymore." Gray replied.

I looked around at everyone, they were all listening. Yet not a single person said a word. Lisanna jumped up next to me, she plastered a sweet smile on her lips.

"I agree with Lucy, he may be gone. But hes gone now so that all of us so we could live a long happy life. If he could see us now, It would hurt him knowing he gave himself for nothing."

I smiled at her gratefully. "Thank you, What is stopping us from smiling once again?"

"Nothing is, we just haven't noticed it yet." Lisanna added.

Erza stood up. " I too will smile everyday. No matter how hard it is." She forced a light grin onto her pretty face.

"You are a very pure soul, Lucy." Master said as he walked down the stairs to the first floor.

"Will you smile with us, Master?" Lisanna asked politely.

Master nodded. "Of course. Seeing my children like this is breaking my heart even more each day."

"Tonight, why don't we celebrate the our lives here together!" Master added.

"Yeah! That's a great idea." Lisanna and I spoke simultaneously.

"I'm not sure how well it will go, but I'm up for it." Gray said as he stood up.

"If Gray goes then Juvia will go as well!" Juvia shot up.

"I think it would be nice to have a celebration. Don't you Gajeel?" Levy questioned the iron dragon slayer.

He huffed and looked away, crossing his arms. "Sure."

I felt tears well up in my eyes. This guild would be back to the way it was. I promised Natsu. Already I have guild members willing to help me in the restoration of it.

Soon we would all come together again. Once it does I will never let it sink this low again.

"Lucy." Masters voice brought me from my thoughts.

Everyone had gone back to talking and doing what ever they felt they needed to. Now it was just Master and I standing here.

"Yes?"

"Thank you, for saying that stuff to the guild. I've been wanting to for awhile now, but I had no idea how to say it."

"I couldn't bare to see the guild like this anymore." I spoke.

"Do you think it will work?" He asked me as he looked around at all the members.

"In time, anything will. It will take some getting used to but I believe we can get the joy back in the guild." I smiled lightly.

"Natsu would be so proud of you, Lucy."

My eyes started to water and I looked down.

"Lucy, there is something I must bring to your attention if you don't mind." He added.

I nodded as I looked up. "Of course."

"Follow me." I followed the tiny old man up the stairs and onto the second floor.

We walked down a hallway and into a small room, with lots of books.

"What is it you needed?" I asked.

"I am very old, you know this." He started, looking out the window as I stood next to him.

I tilted my head slightly in question.

"For when that time comes, I need to choose a new master of Fairy Tail." He added.

"Why are you telling this to me?" I asked.

"Because you are one of the people I am considering giving that title too." He responded.

"Me? Why? I'm not even that powerful!" I asked hastily.

"I am not picking based on power. I want the next Master to be selfless and care for nothing more than the lives of others. You fit under both of those and yes, you are very powerful. More powerful than you could ever know." He stated.

I looked down and nodded. " I see." I looked back up. "If I end up being your choice, then I will gladly take on the role."
