[INT. MALFOY MANOR] March 22, 1960 ━━ A girl is born.

Violet Malfoy comes from a long line of magic.

There is no lie that the Malfoy family was not inherently magic. Their bloodstream swirled and sparked and glimmered with the abilities that Mother Morgana had bestowed upon them. Their hair and their eyes and their name carry the weight of the magic they possess, a smooth layer of untamable chaos. Malfoys were magical, but just as much as magical they were, they were just as horrid.

The Malfoy family name is a blade that never stops cutting; a curse that turns vermillion blood into black ichor; a noose that tightens with every breath; an inescapable monster that chases Red Riding Hood through the forest. The Malfoy name is as evil as it is powerful. (Power sparks in their veins.)

Everyone thinks that the Malfoys are perfect. Violet knows they are far from it.

Violet cannot remember a time in her life where she was truly happy. Despite having a near perfect childhood with her mother involved and her brother present, there was never a full happiness with the shroud of darkness she carried around with her by her surname. (No Malfoy is ever truly happy, Grandmother once told her. You'll soon learn that my dear. I hope you prove me wrong.) There was never a real childhood for her, as she spent most of it in Pureblood etiquette lessons and the rest of it mourning her mother.

Violet, however, is the only daughter in a family with one son. Lucius may be the heir and expected to hold up the family name, but Violet is the crown jewel that is sold off to the highest bidder like a broodmare. She's expected to be raised like a pig to slaughter and sent off to the Slaughterhouse where her future husband resides, and to bear the sons to carry on his family name. There is nothing of love in that cycle.

Violet doesn't believe in love. She knows what's real, and love is a fickle thing created by people blinded by their rose-colored glasses, forever living in an ignorant bliss. Mother once loved Father, and now Mother is dead. (Love will get you nowhere but buried six feet underground.)

However, her brother is stupid enough to believe in love and expectation. Lucius does what is expected of him, and lives freely. He marries who he wants and lives how he wants. He is a man. But he is her brother, and she loves her brother in a way that she can only understand to be the only love that exists. Real love, familial love.

Lucius is her brother, and he is abandoning her for Narcissa Black. He follows tradition, and Violet hates it. She hates tradition most in the world, because it is what holds her captive and keeps her trapped in the perfect daughter stereotype. But what she hates the most about tradition is as follows: Once the first is married off, the second is to follow.

All Malfoys are expected to be perfect. Violet is not.

Violet is not good, and she is not perfect, and she is not what a daughter should be, but she is a Malfoy. Malfoys live, breathe, and die for their family. She will do anything for her brother, and even her father━no matter how much he hates her for who she is━and will die bearing the Malfoy crest. The Malfoys are not good people, and they are what every family in the Sacred 28 aspire to be and what every family outside of it hopes not to be.

Her father, however, wants a perfect daughter. He wants the perfect horse to sell off to the highest bidder. And Violet refuses to be pawned off to a man who will only want her to be the mother of his children. So, Violet will embody everything he wants her to be.

Her plan is simple: Make Abraxas Malfoy's job of finding her a man to marry her off to as hard as possible by resorting to habits that he had tried to beat out of her for so long. She will be a Muggle loving Blood-traitor, a snake who consorts with lions, and the female representation of the boy her father hates the most.

           𓃹 anyways for those who haven't read the tradition before, welcome!!! violet is my baby and she's my blonde trainwreck that can't handle men. aka men can't handle her. she's got a shiv roy sun, alicent hightower rising, lady phoebe borehall-blaxworth moon. aka she's a hot mess but blonde <3 she's the youngest child of abraxas malfoy, sister to lucius, and most definitely a pureblood daugter, although that's not to say that she's ginny weasley pureblood because she's Not. violet is inherently good person with good intentions but she's not at the same time??? she's morally grey and doesn't make the best decisions because she is the pureblood daughter and kinda ethel cain esque. like she will NOT make the best decisions most times because of the fact that her primary focus is her family, blood supremacists or not. she is a slytherin, point blank, and despite her not having the 'gryffindor loyalty' slytherins are snakes, and snakes are loyal to those in their bed. THEREFORE violet is a malfoy, and despite not wanting to exactly be a malfoy at times, she is one regardless

            𓃹 henceforth this fic is heavily influenced by succession/hotd/fleabag. although the fleabag isn't really that heavy until the later acts with her relationships with lucius. and think of succession in the sense that its a whole bunch of purebloods competing for the ceo job that's actually the golden ticket to parental approval/escaping the golden cage. and house of the dragon because violet is so alicent hightower coded its hilarious. and because she's literally so cunty its not even funny. therefore a lot of violet's character arc is turning her devotion to her family from being lethal to fatal in a good-bad way?? she goes from 'i'll kill to be the daughter i should've been' to 'i'll kill to make sure my daughter isn't me'. basically shiv roy/alicent hightower/rhaenyra targaryen all in one

           𓃹 BUTTTTTTTT a lot of who and what violet is is entirely based upon growing away from the abusive cycle that is being a pureblood wife/daughter, and representing what should be the real-life kind of family dynamics she deserved. that goes to say: violet finds it in the most unconventional ways. she makes some really bad decisions and oftentimes finds herself resorting to coping mechanisms that should NOT be available to seventeen year olds, but sadly, they were. and she does it all through our lovely man: sirius black.

           𓃹 now this goes without saying: this is a VERY dark fic. it's got lighthearted moments and an overall warm found family trope, but it's NOT for the people looking for a fluffy marauders fic. this is heavily based on the death eater societal structure, slytherin politics, and the overall aspects of what should be covered in pureblood fics. it's dark, it's heavy, and it encompasses a LOT of hard topics
