The SEC Armadillo sits opposite the SEC Centre and the SSE Hydro in an area called the Scottish Event Campus. 

Opened in 1997 as a multi-purpose venue for meetings, conferences, corporate events and exhibitions as well as theatre, comedy and music concerts, it marked the start of a new era for the SEC and Glasgow's waterfront. 

It was designed by world-renowned Manchurian architect Sir Norman Foster of Foster & Partners.  The building, shaped like the animal, has had comparisons to the Sydney Opera House although this was not the architects' intention on the design.  It is in fact an interlocking series of ship's hulls in reference to the Clyde's shipbuilding history. 

The venue has all the state of the art technology you would expect from a modern building, including connecting passageways to the SEC Centre and the Crowne Plaza Hotel for easy access/exit for high profile performers. 

Britain's Got Talent auditions were held in for series 2 to 4.  It is the place where singer Susan Boyle was discovered.  It also appeared on an episode of the Simpsons entitled 'Springfield's Got Talent' with the cartoon parodying Susan Boyle's infamous audition. 

During the 2014 Commonwealth Games it served as the venue for the weightlifting competitions. 

The Krankies (Fan-Dabi-Dozi!) have appeared with John Barrowman (Dr Who & Torchwood) here many times at the tradition in the UK that is Christmas Pantomime.
