Tour Venue 15

Palladium, Schanzenstrabe 36, 51063, Cologne

There is not a huge amount of written history about this venue which is a shame as I am sure it has many stories to tell.  Most is attributed to the E-Werk, its sister venue that is situated opposite.

The Palladium is located in a former industrial estate in the Mulheim area, about 7 kms from the centre of Cologne.  It was built in 1899 as the mechanical engineering hall of the company Trefil Europe Engineering.

In the late 1980s, members of the Cologne based band BAP had the idea of opening a new event theatre because the City had hardly any suitable places for rock concerts.  They purchased the power station opposite that was in desperate need of renovation. In 1991, the E-Werk was opened and has welcomed artists such as David Bowie, Coldplay, Green Day, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

In 1998, the larger Palladium followed and since then it has served as a venue for many cultural events.

The architecture mixes Wilhelminian grandiose and progressive style (from during the reign of Emperor Wilhelm II between 1880 and 1918) with functional design and technology of the modern era.

Audiences have been treated to incredible acoustics in the majority of the venues to date.  It will be interesting to hear how the acoustics translate within this industrial space.

The capacity is up to 4,000 guests standing, there are two production offices, four artists dressing rooms, and a cloakroom in the basement that can hold up to 2,800 coats!

Notably, the heavy weight suspension points of the warehouse arena make it possible to fly in a car.  After his disappointment in Las Vegas when Pink stole the harness, Harry could finally grant his own wish and fly through the air!

Past artists include: Erasure, Bullet for MyValentine, Ellie Goulding, OneRepublic, Fallout Boy, Simple Minds, Casper,Paramore, Hozier, The 1975 and upcoming Royal Blood, Kasabian, London Grammar, Fleet Foxes, and tonight, Harry Styles!
