Part Two: Chapter Ten
I woke up with my face full of fur, finding my beautiful dog Evan, laying on my fucking face. The Australian Sheppard was a beat, but I loved him.
"Get off meeee!" I whined as I jokingly nudged the sleeping dog. Evan made a small noise and rolled, yes, rolled off of my bed.
I laughed as I got up and got ready for the day. I hit the shower and then brushed my teeth and got dressed before heading out to wake up the roommates.
I simply just knocked obnoxiously loud on their doors.
When I heard a groan and a pillow thrown at the door, I knew Andy was awake.
Rico opened his door, appearing in his disheveled glory, "I'm up."
"I see that. Get dressed. The two of us have people to meet, hands to shake, all that nonsense."
He grumbled and returned to his room, closing the door.
I went into the kitchen to make everyone breakfast because they'd take awhile.
I was jamming to back street boys and separating food onto each plate when Andy walked in, dressed and tired looking, grabbing the plate I pushed out for him.
"Why are you a morning person?"
"I'm not."
"Lies."
I set Rico's plate down and then sat down with my own. Andy and I eating in silence until Rico would arrive.
I'd gotten used to the routine. It had been roughly three months since Andy and Rico started living with me. Rico was moving back home in about a month, but I felt like he might stay with me again soon.
Well, he'd come back soon it better.
Andy liked living at my place. It was close to the school, really nice, spacious, soundproofed walls. I didn't think I'd be getting rid of him anytime soon. He just loved the place too much.
"How'd you sleep last night?" Andy asked, petting Evan as he ran up to Andy.
I smiled warmly, "extremely well. First good night of sleep in months. Woke up to Evan being a dick though."
"Isn't he always?"
I remover when Andy brought Evan home. He wasn't very old, maybe just as old as the real Evan had been dead. He was a puppy. Still is.
Andy had found the poor thing stranded on the side of the road and it had a worn collar with Evan on the collar. When we called to people who owned him, they didn't want him. Andy May or may not have called the police on them and took the poor dog home.
He was really attached to Andy and I. Iffy around Rico at first, but they grew close. I liked to believe that Evan had been reborn as Evan the dog. True namesake was a bit on the nose, but either way, he helped fill the void in my heart left by Robin.
"Hey, what are you doing today?" Andy asked.
I puffed, "interview and then we're meeting the mayor."
"Fun," Andy hummed, "you know they're going to ask about-"
"I know. I just don't think we have anything."
"That's a lie and you know it."
I looked away from him. Rico and I went out on dates, but we hadn't kissed or anything. We were simply sorta dating. We weren't boyfriends or anything. I was afraid I was really the only one who felt the spark and Rico simply went along with it.
"I just don't know if actually likes me the same way I like him."
"You could ask?" Andy suggested.
I shook my head, "no, I suck at that."
"Right, i forget this is the first time you've been in love."
"Fuck off."
"Gladly. I got a job to get to." He got off his seat and rinsed his plate in the sink before grabbing his coat, keys and wallet, booking it.
I finished my food as Rico walked out and plopped down. Rico has let his hair grow a bit, and he had a really sexy stubble and my knees went weak just looking at him.
"You ready for today?" I asked as I slid his plate to him and went over to the sink to rinse my own plate.
"Not really. Interviews have always been annoying."
I nodded in agreement then went to play with Evan.
I was in the middle of an aggressive game of tag when Rico finally finished, meaning we had to go.
I poured and unlocked the back doggie door. I wasn't worried about food since I had gotten an automatic timer. I learned that Evan tricked us into giving him more food about a week in. So automatic timer it was.
Rico and I headed out and in no time we reached the studio where we were being interviewed.
It was a normal looking building with a large fucking logo plastered on the side. A super annoying logo.
When we were walking in, I decided to clarify things with Rico, because Andy was a bit right, "Rico, we're dating, right? I know we've been on a few dates, but it feels like we still act only like coworkers."
"Of course were dating," he said, rushed, "did I make you feel-"
"You're fine. I'm just new to everything that isn't quick."
He nodded in understanding.
I knew he was still iffy with my past sex life, but he knew I hadn't brought anyone home in the past months he's lived with me, so i was faithful.
Still doesn't change the fact I slept around a lot before I met him, but he's been chill about it.
When we walked into the studio, we were ushered into makeup and then after they did... something , they pushed us on stage.
"Please welcome our Guests! The young detectives Felix Wretch and Rico Manchester!"
I think we both scrambled to our seats, trying to smile as best as we could.
"Thank you for having us," I said politely. I think the women and man sitting across for us were the studio's two hosts, Jim and Rose.
Rose smiled warmly, "it's nice to have you two here. You two are quite the sight. You've solved about ten cases together since Rico extended his stay here?"
"We have," Rico said warmly, "I sadly have to go back home next month, it is my home country, but I might come back when I can."
I had to hide my smile at the very subtle glance he casted at me. He really only stayed for me, and it made my heart burn. In a good way.
"You love it here that much?" Jim chuckled heartily.
Rico shrugged, "well, there's a lot more crimes to solve here than back in the U.K. My dad can handle things back home. Besides. The... people here are definitely interesting."
"By the people here you mean our resident detective Mr. Wretch?" Jim jeered jokingly.
A harsh blushed made way to my face, I could feel its heat scalding my skin.
"Partly. Mostly. Yeah." When Rico laughed, I couldn't help the swell of elation inside my body.
"So, what are you two?" Rose asked.
"Dating." Rico informed.
"Dating?" Both seemed to not believe us.
I nodded, "yes, dating. That's all. We're taking things slow."
"Definitely. Besides, I don't like the idea of rushing into things I'm not prepared for. I've never dated before, so I'm a bit wary."
"Pair that with Mr. Wretches' habits."
"Nope. I'm cold turkey. I plan to be Loyal to Rico."
"Why?" Rose asked.
I smiled, "because I like him. A lot. I don't want to ruin that."
"Well, since we're on this subject, with so many knots in your belt, people want to know, what is the best position?" Jim pleaded.
I didn't miss a beat, "missionary. You get to see your partner. Any other position doesn't hold as much intimacy."
"Is this from the position of a dominant man or-"
"Both."
Rose nodded.
"How many positions have you tried? I'm curious?"
I furrowed my brows, "I wouldn't know. I never counted."
"Probably a lot," she joked.
"Can we talk about something else?" Rico asked.
I glanced his way, and while he seemed confident, I could see his pep had faltered a bit from the discussion. As expected. No one wants to know their partner has been with a lot of people.
"I have to agree. Is it really appropriate to be grilling others about their past relationships?"
Both the hosts straightened, "Right," Jim muttered, "what inspired you to become detectives? To stay detectives?"
I shrugged, "my dad inspired me. He worked hard to save others and I wanted to continue in his footsteps. I guess he's still the reason because I want to find out who killed him one day."
"That's quite the way to start. How long have you been a detective?"
"Since I was ten. I jumped into action when my father died. I've always been good at deducing, even as a child, so, I tagged along and helped some cases. The police didn't want to let me help at first, but when I started solving cases quicker and quicker, they let me join. They've basically been my family since then. Another reason to keep going."
"What about you Rico?" Jim switched.
"My dad's a pretty amazing cop and I decided I wanted to be like him. So I suppose that's a similarity Felix and I share."
"Yeah," I agreed, "I suppose so."
"You two really love your father's, don't you?"
"I grew up around extremely wonderful men. Besides a few. My dad, my childhood friend, my best friend, my brother, the Lieutenant. All of them have made me who I am today, minus past hobbies."
"Why do you only call Lieutenant Ford, Lieutenant?" Rose asked.
I smiled fondly, "outside of work I use his name. I'm just not unprofessional. He's like my second dad. He taught me how to shoot a gun and taught me how to shave."
"Really?"
I nodded, "I grew up with the police station. Even though every case wasn't here, The Lieutenant would always help me out. He always answered my calls. After my brother's case, he offered me time off, which I turned down. I don't think he wanted me on the case. He knew how upset I was, but after seeing how determined I was he let me stay on."
"He does seem like a good man."
"He's more than a good man. He's a great one, and a great father to his kids and a great husband to his wife. He wife is super amazing too."
Jim was about to ask another question with a gut fetching scream was heard throughout the studio. Rico and I launched to our feet and bolted towards the scream.
Of course, we weren't alone in the pursuit, but we led it.
Turned out, the source of the noise was a dead body. Well, the scream from the person who found it.
The poor intern was delivering a drink to the deceased, and it seems she was met with something she wasn't expecting.
The victim was hanging from the ceiling, a rope tight around his neck. Her clothes were tatters, and her hands were red and bruises.
"This was definitely a murder." I said aloud.
Rico nodded, "I don't see how it could be anything else. Call up the Lieutenant."
"He's on vacation. His protege will probably full in."
"You know them?"
I sigh as a pull out my phone, "sadly." I pulled up their number and they answered quite quickly.
"Hello," her voice purred, "what can I do for you Felix?"
"I know you're filling in for the Lieutenant. A murder just happened at Jim studios. Need you to send people down as soon as possible."
I heard a angry grunt, "Alright. See you soon."
I hung up quickly.
"What's with the disgusted look?" Rico pressed.
I just shook my head, there was no way to explain the Lieutenant's protege. Who was his best friends' daughter.
Rico would not like her.
