Chapter Seven

"Why did you decide to tag along?" I grumbled as we walked towards the door.

"Well, I realized that you might let them blame you for what wasn't your fault. So it may be best for you to let me tag along," he advised.

I hissed, "fine."

When we got to the door, I knocked, and immediately Evan's parents got out.

"Felix, is it true? Did Evan's get murdered?" His mother rushed.

"I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs. Angler."

"Please, sweetie, you know you can call me Jane."

"You won't want me too."

We were all seated in the kitchen before I got a chance to continue.

"What do you mean about that sweetie?" Jane asked.

I took a deep breath, "he was murdered because of me. A crazed lunatic attacked him because he was close to me."

Evan's dad, George, nearly dropped him mug, "what?"

Rico decided to take over, "the killer is suspected to be someone that Felix was intimately with at some point or another. He seems to go after people who threatens his chances. Felix's brother, who confessed he loved him, Felix's childhood friend who loved Felix to pieces, and Evan, who Felix had just asked out."

"Asked out?" Jane muttered.

I nodded, "I was willing to give up my polygamous lifestyle for him and date him. So yes, I asked him out. I tried to make him stay at my place, but he wouldn't, and i still felt weird so I called the police."

"Were you sleeping with him?" George fumed suddenly.

Jane gasped, "don't accuse people of such things!"

"I was," I admitted, "and I loved him."

"Get out..." George grumbled.

"Mr-"

"Get out! My son is dead and it's your.m fault!"

"It is not his fault!" Rico shouted. "You do realize he's lost far more than you two have. Two people he cared about was murdered and another one was attacked. Yelling at him isn't going to change that. But the killer was going to kill, with or without him involved."

He grabbed me by my arm and yanked me out of that house. He didn't let go until we were at my car.

"People are shit," he grunted as he got in the car.

I remained silent as I got in myself. We started driving. "Thanks."

He smiled softly, "it was no problem. They had no right to yell at you."

"They had some rights."

"After this case is over, I'm helping you plan these funerals and I'm helping you eat through as much ice cream as you can stomach until you're throwing up."

"So romantic," I jeered. Still, I appreciated what he said, not that he needs to know. I've know him less than a day and I was sure I wanted him to be mine and mine alone.

"Should we go back to the station?"

"Probably. But I want to swing by the hospital first and see how Andy's doing."

Rico smiled, "you really love him, huh?" The words were endearing, made me melt.

"Yeah. The same way I loved Evan and Benny. Like family."

"Family?"

"You know what I mean."

He chortled, "Yeah, yeah I know."

The rest of the drive was pretty silent, but I didn't mind and kinda liked it. Rico was respecting my obvious need to not talk about anything.

I was extremely grateful.

I decided to turn on some music and that's all the noise that filled the care for the next half hour drive.

"I'll stay in the car," Rico offered kindly.

I rolled my eyes, "consider it part of the case. No need to sit out here. Especially when you can be a target."

"What?"

"You do realize we're both attractive men and you're exactly my type? Your timing also lines up with when I decided to stop dating other people. The killer definitely thinks of you as a threat."

"And you're telling me just now?"

I shook my head, "I just figured it out."

"How?"

"Look over there," I said, gesturing at the newspaper being sold. "The front page has your face and my face on it. Anyone who's been with me knows my type."

"So they're assuming you fell for me at first sight? That's ridiculous!"

"But not too far off base," I muttered under my breath.

"What?"

"Nothing."

He sighed and followed me out of the car and towards the hospital. There wasn't any questions as we were quickly led to Andy's room.

Andy was watching the hospital tv when we got there, his entire chest wrapped in bandages. He looked our way, smiling, "I'm fine you know."

"You got stabbed!" I exasperated.

He nodded at that, "but I'm still alive. Thanks to you."

I was about to say he was hurt because of me, but I refrained, walking over to him and sitting on his bed.

"Evan was killed."

He shifted at that, forcing me to look at him, "Felix, oh my god, are you okay?"

"I should be asking you that!"

"No," he said, shaking his head, "my pain is only physical, yours isn't."

"Andy-"

He pouted, pinching my nose, "I hate when you bottle things up. You need to talk about these things."

"I don't bottle things up!"

"Yes you do."

"No I don't."

"Yes you do."

"No i don't!"

"Then explain your crush on the guy over there," He teased under his breath.

"Shut up!"

"Should I go? You two seem to be catching up-"

"Don't be like that!" Andy exclaimed, "I'm just being a caring friend and he's being a protective one."

"Right."

Andy motioned Rico over and I watched as Rico awkwardly stalked over, only to be pulled down closer to Andy, who whispered something to him.

Knowing Andy, it was death threats

"You have any idea who It might've been?" He asked.

I shook my head, "nope. The news knows you were attacked, but nothing was said about it yet as we don't want you to be attacked again."

"Thanks for that."

I smiled as my phone buzzed. My brows furrowed as a fished my phone out of my pocket and saw a text from Robin.

Hmm, strange. Maybe he heard about Evan?

From: Robin

Are you okay man? I heard the news about Evan and Andy. Need someone to talk to? I could come over later?

Me:

No. I already said I'm done with that?

From: Robin

Why??

Me:

because I'm already invested in someone. I just got invested actually. Think he's my soulmate.

From: Robin

That so?

"I need you for a second Rico," I clicked, and he walked over as I snapped a picture of the two  of us and sent it to Robin.

"Why?" Rico muttered.

"Protecting Andy's ass because you can save yourself. Now, do my a favor and call the Lieutenant."

"Why?"

"Because I found the murderer."

"What!!!" The two exclaimed.

I nodded , "Andy's attack hasn't been reported yet, so, when Robin texted me, asking about how I was after what happened to him, it was obvious."

"That would make sense too! Benny wouldn't have fought back and Robin would know about his feelings," Andy brought up.

"I think he also tracked my phone," I blurted.

"Why?"

"Well, he must've known who i was with at least to kill my best friend. He might've just bugged it."

"What should we do?" Rico asked.

"You get the Lieutenant on the line and inform him of the situation. If Robin isn't at home, you're playing bait."

"How?"

"You'll get the coffee date you wanted and 'go home.' If he sticks by his pattern, it will be easy to get to him."

"You're lucky I'm better at self defense than most, officers."

"Which is why I texted him a picture of us saying we're soulmates. He's probably pissed at that."

"Soulmates?" Andy snorted.

I laughed too, "We have matching eyes, that's total soulmate stuff."

"Yeah, yeah," he started, "but that's funny to hear from you."

"Oh fuck off."

"I'm going to make the call real quick," Rico hummed and moved outside the hospital room while Andy and I were left alone.

He smirked at me, "you like him?" His voice was heavily teasing.

"I don't know," I expressed, "Maybe? Probably. But I can't right now."

Andy shook his head, "you're going to keep saying that after this case ends. Don't let a bad thing screw things over for you."

"For someone who loves me, you're really quick on setting me up," I complained.

"I want you to be happy, above anything else. You deserve an actual romance and not one night stands."

"I'm so lucky to have you as a friend."

"Yes, yes you are."

I hugged him, holding him as tight as I could without hurting him. He hugged back the best he could and pressed a kiss to the top of my head.

"Be safe. I didn't care who said it before, but I'm saying it now. You have a world on your shoulders, and so many people who adore you. The world would be devastated without you."

"That's a bit much-"

"There are people who are willing to kill for you. If it meant that you'd never get hurt, I'd probably do it too. So don't put yourself down and protect yourself."

I could only smile as I continued to hug him.

He was a safe presence.

While I couldn't save my best friend, I'm glad I had a chance to save Andy.
