Chapter Nine
I couldn't move, every joint stiffened as Robin moved in front of me. He looked normal, like he hadn't murdered two people and attacked my childhood friend.
"What gave me away," he said in a soft purr.
"What happened to Andy wasn't put on the news," I said slowly, looking at him in a harsh glare.
He made a noise of acknowledgement, "I knew it was something like that."
Knowing that Rico hadn't left yet, I decided to warn him, "Why did you kill Benny and Evan? How could you kill your best friend!"
"He liked you!" Robin barked back, loud enough that Rico should've been able to hear.
I looked at him incredulously, "so did a lot of people! Did you plan to kill my entire fuck list?"
"Your what?"
"The people I've been with."
"I thought you were only with a few people," he sputtered.
"No! I haven't been in love with anyone so I never bothered to stick with a few people!"
"He was planning to confess to you! You would've accepted Benny! Your parents were getting a divorce and you would've no longer been brothers!"
"I wouldn't have! Benny was my brother and that's all he was to me!"
Robin punched the nearest wall, creating a hole in it and I couldn't help but glare at him.
"Why about Evan! You asked him out!"
"I thought I'd give romance a try. I was stressed from my brother being murdered that I needed something different, he turned me down."
"Andy?"
"We stopped our relationship as fuck buddies. He fell in love with me and the feelings weren't mutual so he decided to cut it off."
"Why about this 'Rico' guy?"
"We just met and we're not involved."
He slumped, probably realizing his insanity and realizing he killed Evan and Benny for nothing. That or he's trying to lull me into a false sense of security.
"Turn yourself in. Maybe they'll let you out early on good behavior."
Robin glared at me, maybe understanding that in his eyes, I'm the root of his problems.
"Why couldn't you- why did you ever sleep around? Could've prevented all this is you only kept it to true one night stands."
"I couldn't exactly avoid everyone could I? It's not my fault that you're a psychopath!"
He reached in his pocket and pulled out a gun.
My nearest firearm was in my bedroom, so I couldn't get it without alerting him. "Really, you're going to shoot your problems away?"
"Why, yes I am." He held the gun up to me, and I stood still, trying to remain unfazed. I wasn't. I could die in any moment and then my mom would've lost two kids.
I had to remain calm though. Otherwise he'd do even more rash things. "Where'd you even get the gun?"
"I got it from my dad's garage. He never keeps it locked up."
Sadly, that meant his dad was going to get arrested too since he unwittingly contributed as well. Not for long.
He pulled back the safety, aimed at my head, his finger resting delicately on the trigger. "Say goodb-"
He was interrupted by a flying pan, from my kitchen. We both looked over to the source and saw Rico, smirking his ass off as he tackled Robin to the ground.
The gun fell from Robins hands and I kicked it away as I helped Rico Hold Robin down. "You can the Lieutenant?"
"Yeah, he'll be here any second."
"You knew id show up?" Robin growled.
I snorted, "of course! We thought you'd go after Rico though."
"Fuck the both of you."
My short lived experience with death didn't last long, thanks to Rico.
"How'd you get in, the both of you?"
Rico glanced sideways, "he smashed open your back window and I crawled in through his own opening."
I groaned, "that going to be annoying to replace."
Rico smiled apologetically, even though it wasn't his fault.
We kept Robin pinned until the cops arrived with handcuffs and were able to escort him into the nearest police car. I knew it wasn't going to be the last time we saw him, both Rico and I would have to testify in court, but-
-I was glad.
The person who killed my brother, my best friend, and an innocent officer was going to be put behind bars. He'd go away for life with all the evidence against him.
After we figured out is was Robin, we found a lot of evidence stacked against him, hidden in his house. He wasn't going to be able to explain away most of it.
So, for the next week, things were good.
I stayed at the hospital with Andy while my window was being fixed, and when his home suddenly didn't belong to him anymore, due to a fire burning it down from his neighbors place, Andy stayed with me.
School started back up and we went back to attending, but I was the local celebrity. Still, nothing changed besides a few different conversations.
I didn't see Rico for the week following Robin's arrest, but i did see him when Andy and I headed to the courthouse to testify against Robin.
Rico was all dazzled up in a suit and he looked, great. Andy knew about my instant crush on his and joked about it under his breath so no one but me could hear.
I walked up to him with Andy. "Nice to see you again Rico," I said with a warm smile. I held my hand out and he took it, shaking it, the undeniable zap still shooting through our veins. He quickly dropped my hand. I knew it was like our first meeting all over again.
"You too Felix."
He headed to the courtroom and I smiled softly after him. Andy just dragged me along to the courtroom, where we all took our seats.
It was your typical court case, and i felt bad for the defense lawyer, he was going to lose.
"For my next witness, I call, Rico Manchester," the lawyer demanded. Rico went up, swore to say nothing but the truth, and all that.
"What is your connection to the victims?"
"Nothing. Didn't know them. I live in the U.K."
"What about the first victim's brother, what's your relation with him?"
"Acquaintance."
"That's all?"
Rico nodded, "I got interested in the case and flew here to help. I teamed up with Felix in order to catch Robin."
"Are you sure you haven't slept with him?"
"I haven't. And if you're using that, just ask who he hasn't slept with in this room?"
The judge had an amused smirk on his lips, "Alright, if you haven't slept with Felix, the young man over there, raise your hand."
Rico, my mom and Dave, Evan's parents, the judge, the lawyer, and the Lieutenant were the only ones to raise their hands. Everyone else glanced at one another and back at me.
I had game. I knew that.
"I... I call Felix Wretch."
I got up with a shrug and switched places with Rico. I swore in and awaited my questions.
"Relationship with defendant and victims." He ordered from me.
"Benny was my brother, Evan was my best friend, the police officer who died was a coworker, and Robin was my brother's best friend. The only one I didn't fuck at some point in time was Benny, because ew."
"How can we be sure that you aren't framing My client for murder?"
I rolled my eyes, "why would I want to frame him? The guy killed my brother and my best friend. He nearly killed my childhood friend. He held a gun to my head. He was my brother's best friend and someone I was close too, I didn't want him to be the murderer."
"Why's that?"
"I slept with him to take my mind off the case. That was before I knew it was him, but it doesn't feel great knowing you slept with a serial killer."
"How sexually active are you?"
"I was pretty active, but I've decided that it's time to end that."
This perked interest, "Why is that?" The lawyer prodded.
"Wow, let's see," I said mockingly, "my brother was killed and my best friend because some guy I slept with was afraid I'd stop sleeping with him!"
"Oh-"
"Besides, I said I'd stop sleeping with people when I fell in love and I did, so naturally, I stopped. And will stop until I can get a date. An actual date."
Rico's eyes glimmered with amusement at that, and Andy looked jokingly disgusted.
"Oh, and pray tell, who is that?"
I smiled with a shrug, "Got a case of love at first sight for the only other mismatched eyes in the room."
"Didn't he say you two were only acquaintances?"
"Yes," I confirmed, "and we are. Doesn't mean I don't want to know him more."
"Your honor, I fail to see what this has to do with the trial." The prosecutor said angrily.
"Sustained."
After that, it was obvious Robin was guilty. The defense couldn't say anything right.
The Jury condemned Robin as guilty and he got a life sentence without parole.
When Andy and I were walking out, Rico caught up with us.
"Felix!" He started, "I was wondering if you'd like to go see a movie sometime?"
I smiled, "Yeah, I'd love that. So I take it that you're staying in America?"
"For a couple months. I'll be working alongside you for the time being of you don't mind."
"You find a place to stay?" I asked.
He shook his head, "no."
"I have another guest room in my house you can take."
Andy simply smiled at the interaction. "Aren't you still in college?" He asked.
"I'm taking classes online at the moment, so I'll be able to tag along."
This was the start of something new and wonderful.
