Chapter Five

"You are ridiculously hard to contact sometimes..." Evan muttered as I handed him some soda, sitting next to him on the couch.

I should be wary of him. He could've killed my brother. Yet... I know he didn't.

It was stupid to say that something in my gut told me.

I just, I got this sense of impending doom, and i couldn't shake it.

"Evan, thank you for being in my life," I said softly.

He chuckled, "I'm not the amazing detective. I should thank you for being in mine."

I don't know why, but, I felt this urge to get closer to him, it was this nagging pull, and so, I leaned over and kissed him. He wasn't a stranger to me, happily accepting the advance, setting down his drink to grab my hips and kiss me back.

After a minute; however, he pushed me away, "Hey, what'sP wrong?"

"I-I don't know. I just... do you ever have a strong gut feeling? One that you can't ignore?"

"Sometimes."

"My gut told me to get closer to you. So, Evan, after this is all over, do you want to try dating? I'll drop everyone else."

"If you still want to date me after all this is over, I'd be glad to. For now," he whispered, "let's watch movies. Distract you from everything that happened."

"Thank you," I said, and curled into him.

After a couple hours, he had to head home, but, Luke Andy, he made me feel safe, and it was such a warm, fuzzy feeling. When he left, I kissed him goodbye, cupping his face.

"If you need me for anything, you know where to find me," He said in a gentle whisper.

"I know, I know. I wish you could stay longer."

"I've got a job to go to in the morning. I don't have anything here and none of your clothes will ever fit me."

"True," I laughed gently, "see you soon."

"See you soon."

I closed the door and locked it, sighing with my head resting against the doorframe.

The bad feeling hadn't left my body, and I decided to get police help. I picked up my phone and called Winston.

He picked up after a single ring, "what's wrong Felix?"

"Do I only call when things are wrong?"

"Pretty much."

I sighed, "fair enough. Anyways, my best friend, Evans who discovered the body, just headed home from my place and... I don't know. I have a bad feeling that something's going to happen to him. Could you get an officer to look after him?"

"For you," He chortled, "anything. I'll send an officer to his home right away. Just give me an address."

When I prattled off the address, we both hung up and I went to return to my couch, cleaning up the dirty dishes.

The nagging feeling slowly eased itself through the night, but I guess I just worried about Evan. He was my best friend after all, and it would be overwhelmingly frustrating

I decided to busy myself by working on the case more, sitting in my couch, laptop in lap.

I think i spent the next few hours scrolling through social media profiles of the people I've been with. No one seemed out of the ordinary.

In fact, they all were doing. Their own thing around the time of the murder apparently. Evan was binging a tv series with Roxie, his sister-like friend. Andy was playing video games, evident from him twitch stream posted into YouTube.

Leonardo (who I hadn't been with) was taking kickboxing classes.

There were very few people who weren't posting. Robin didn't post, but I believe someone said he had a solid alibi.

After a couple hours, I ended up closing my laptop and turning on the news.

Surprise, surprise, it was about me.

"Honestly, a kid is solving complex cases?" The male newscaster Donald chuckled, " Next you'll tell me that he's an amazing singer."

The female newscaster, Jamie, laughed, "I wouldn't go that far, but it's impressive?"

"What is?"

"Him. He was already pretty legendary in the newspapers, but knowing who he really is? He doesn't look like the legend."

Donald scoffed, "I agree with you there. The only tho g the kid ha going for him is his looks, and I doubt he uses them."

I bit my tongue to hold back laughter. If only they'd knew.

The girl puffed her cheeks.

"Oh my god, I think I was with her last year!" I chortled, smirking.

"I think he puts it to his advantage."

Donald looked at her and the pink that rose to her cheeks, "hot damn, you've got experience with him?"

"I'm sure half the city has experience with him. He isn't dating anyone. Yet at least."

"You think you can interview him?"

She rolled her eyes, "Yes, because I saw him once, a year ago means that he'd care to speak to me."

"Well, how many knots do you think he has."

She thought for a moment, "he's definitely not a stranger to either of the sexes, so I'm sure more knots than you."

"Well I guess some of us like to stick to a single person,"  he mocked.

Jamie simply rolled her eyed, "He's a college student, and does he wear it well. I guess I should've know he was a detective. He knew everything about me from my first word."

"Like what?"

"Wouldn't you like to know," she jested.

I turned off the tv, realizing I've had enough. I decided to check my phone one last time and saw a bunch of unread messages from flings that wanted to know why they were a suspect in a murder case.

It was, not at all what I wanted to see.

A few guys were asking to come over, so, I sent a mass text, (that wouldn't send as a group message, thank god) saying that I'm no longer having any flings with them.

After such a simple text, I decided it was time to turn in, so I did. I headed off to my room and let my face hit the pillow.

I was unaware to the next morning news.
