Eternity - Poetry

Sorry for what feels like years between chapters and such, I've been *insert bullshiticus* busy with writers-block and learning German.
But, here it is - a poem! (Wow!)
I had a huge hit of inspiration the other day when I was just casually looking through people's things and I saw a lovely quote by Atticus (thanks SweetSimu for posting it, it woke up the sleeping murderer / addict) "If a poet falls in love with you, you will live forever" and boom! Here's my 'take' on the quote.

~

If I could live forever
Even if I was alone
I'd thank you every day, my love
For giving me a home
Both in your heart and physically
The things you say to me
Both written words and spoken
As if my heart was never broken
And as I lay here in your breast
Untouched by passing hours
I know, my love, that I am blessed
For the scant things we call ours

They say I am immortal
And by your words, I am
But living here forever
Is it better than being dead?
For nothing comes to pass
And nothing ever will
Because, my love, you've finished here
I became a bitter pill
Your deeds don't fuel my endless pain
Take words that quietly echo my name
It's not by magic that I'm alive
Move on, my love, you're in a high
But when you come back crying out
Eternally alone, to my throne of doubt
Take heed, take caution, and should you proceed
When the mirror sees you the way it sees me
Don't tell me that you didn't know
My love, you put me here long ago

I don't think I'm immortal, unless (somehow) I am
And I wish that I could ask you, but I'm holding back the dam
Should I try to move, I know fears do too
That's sadistic genius of knowing what you do
You call this love, when you look at me
Still standing forever in a second of time
You call this love, dangling the key
With the tantalus offer of being mine
We both know I cannot answer, you still hold the ink
So, love, now I dare you, write it out and watch me sink
I used to be your plaything, your ever silent muse
You've always done the prompting, while I follow your cues

Look at what you've conquered, the things that you have won
You'll never be fully satisfied with knowing what you've done
Worlds tremble at the mention of your name
Innocent fun is now an obsessive game
Don't try to find the moment that you defined my soul
It's gone now, it slipped past, just another thing you stole
I say that I still love you, if that's the word you use
And I understand if it's another thing that somehow left you confused
I cannot call you sane nor loving, I'm afraid
There comes a moment when you know you've overstayed
In situations like this, I'm told it truly pays
For a minute, a moment, look away from the page

~
