World War III

I scream, using the desk to hold myself up, aware of the Doctor saying something... something about being deadly? I gasp when the electricity stops flowing through my body and the Doctor's bright blue eyes were staring at me with worry.

"Eva... Eva talk to me, are you alright?" he asks frantically, brushing hair from my face.

I try to stand, but groan in pain and clutch my chest: "I've only... got one heart... beating," I gasp out.

I was aware of something screaming and look past the Doctor to see the Slitheen and Green being electrocuted.

"The ID badges," the Doctor explains, seeing where I was looking. "Come on, up you get," he helps me stand and pulls my arm over his shoulder.

The Doctor drags me out of the room and we reach reception where all the security are gathered, me whimpering in pain every few seconds.

"Oi! You want aliens, you've got them; they're inside Downing Street," the Doctor calls to them. "Come on!" he leads them back to the briefing room, still holding me up.

I roll my eyes when we get back and Asquith was back in his skin suit... of course.

"Where've you been?" Green demands of the soldiers as they check the bodies of the alien experts. "I called for help, I sounded the alarm!" he lies through his teeth. "There was this... lightening! This kind of er... um... electricity, and they all collapsed!"

"I think they're all dead," one of the soldiers mutters.

"That's what I'm saying, they did it!" Green points to the Doctor and I. "That man and woman there!"

"I think you will find the Prime Minister is an alien in disguise," the Doctor tells the soldiers and they all look at him like he's had one too many. "That's never going to work, is it?" he asks the soldier beside us.

"Nope," he agrees.

"Can you run?" the Doctor looks down at me and I shake my head, one hand on my chest. "Fair enough," he nods to the soldier, lifts me up bridal-style, and runs from the room.

The Doctor runs down the corridor but we're stopped by soldiers coming up on us from the other way. I grimace in pain but smile a bit, seeing where we were and the Doctor grins down at me.

"Under the jurisdiction of the Emergency Protocols, I authorize you to execute this man and woman!" Asquith orders and the soldiers aim their guns at us.

"Uh, well, now, yes," the Doctor nods, stalling for time. "You see, eh... the thing is... if I was you, if I was going to execute someone by backing them against the wall, between you and me, little word of advice..." he trails off as the lift pings behind us. "Don't stand them against the lift!" he beams, backing us into the lift and shifts me in his arms so he could close the doors with his sonic.

As soon as the doors close he sets me down: "this is going to hurt," he warns me softly.

"I know, just do it... it's the right one," I groan miserably.

I whimper when the Doctor hits me on the right side of my chest and then back, but, it got my heart working. I straighten and beam at the Doctor: "thank you, sweetie," I kiss his cheek.

"You're welcome, dear," he rolls his eyes, smiling.

The lift opens and I smile, seeing Hermione and Rose outside. I also see the middle-aged woman and dark-haired man from earlier with them. Not to mention the Slitheen that was right outside the doors.

"Hello!" the Doctor and I smile at the alien, me wiggling my fingers.

My smile widens when I see the four humans get away while the Slitheen was distracted. The doors shut again and the lift moves up.

"Plan?" I raise an eyebrow.

"Get Rose and Hermione, get to the cabinet room, find out the Slitheen's plan, and stop them," he tells me simply.

"Nice and simple," I smile approvingly.

"Thought so," he smirks when the lift opens up.

The Doctor and I step outside the lift and run down the corridor and down a flight of steps. I hear the lift ping open and pull the Doctor into a crevice next to the door when two Slitheen walk past.

"We'll keep this floor quarantined as our last hunting ground before the final phase," one of them... Green? says.

I bite my lip in anticipation while they walk past. When I look up I notice how incredibly... close the Doctor was as he was shielding me from view, his hands on either side of me.

"Let's... let's get going," I mutter when the Slitheen are out of sight, blushing.

The Doctor looks down at me and his eyes widen slightly, seemingly just now realizing how close we were and that he practically had me caged against the wall: "right... yeah, good idea," he backs off, rubbing the back of his neck.

The two of us head down the corridor quickly and I hear Green speaking: "I can smell an old girl... stale bird... brittle bones."

I spot a fire extinguisher on the wall and wink at the Doctor, grabbing it. The Doctor smirks and follows me into the room. One of the Slitheen sweeps a curtain aside and Rose and Hermione were behind it. They both scream and Hermione raises her wand, sending a stunning spell at the alien and making it stumble back. I spray the other two with the fire extinguisher: "out! With us!" I call.

Rose pulls the curtain down over the Slitheen's head and I smile proudly as her, Hermione, and the other two humans rush over and get behind us.

"They're really strong, stunning spells don't work on them," Hermione mutters, hugging me from the side.

"Yeah, I saw," I nod as Rose hugs my other side and then the Doctor.

"Who the hell are you?" the Doctor pulls away from Rose, looking at the other two people.

"Harriet Jones, MP for Flydale North," the woman says.

"Indra Ganesh, undersecretary," the man introduces. "We met downstairs," he adds.

"Lovely to meet you both," I send them each a smile.

"Likewise," Harriet nods.

I spray the Slitheen with the fire extinguisher again and the six of us make a run for it.

"We need to get to the cabinet rooms!" the Doctor yells as we run down the corridors.

"The Emergency Protocols are in there!" Harriet tells us.

"They give instructions on aliens!" Indra adds.

"Ooo, I like you two," I smile widely.

"Really?" Indra's eyes widen slightly and I send him a wink.

"I think I like you too," Harriet smiles.

The six of us keep running and Hermione opens a locked door as the Slitheen chase us. We finally get to the cabinet room and I point my wand at the door we just entered: 'Colloportus' the lock clicks. The Doctor rushes over to the other door and grabs a bottle of port, holding his sonic to it.

"One more move and my sonic device will triplicate the flammability of this alcohol, whoof! We all go up," he warns the Slitheen. "So back off," he glares and they hesitate outside the doors.

"Right, then," I walk up beside the Doctor and fold my arms. "Bit of an interview, 'PM': who exactly are the Slitheen?" I raise an eyebrow.

"They're aliens," Harriet states the obvious.

"Yes, we got that, thanks," the Doctor rolls his eyes.

"Who are you, if not human?" Green eyes the Doctor and I.

"Who's not human?" Harriet asks and I sigh in annoyance.

"They're not human," Rose tells her.

"They're not human?" Harriet gapes at the two of us.

"Can we have a bit of hush?" the Doctor asks pointedly.

"Sorry," Harriet mutters guiltily.

"So, what's the plan?" the Doctor asks the aliens.

"But they've got Northern and Irish accents," Harriet protests.

"Lots of planets have a North," Rose retorts, making me smile slightly at her use of the Doctor's words he had told her when we first met.

"And Eva's half-human," Hermione tells her.

"I said hush," the Doctor snaps. "Come on!" he holds the port up threateningly.

"Now, you've got a spaceship hidden in the North Sea, it's transmitting a signal, and you've murdered your way to the top of the Muggle Government," I tap my arm.

"Muggle?" Harriet whispers.

"Non-magic person," Rose whispers back.

"Magic?" Harriet asks.

"Evangeline is a half-witch," Indra tells her and I raise an eyebrow... hm, I didn't know that was in my file.

"Hush! What for? Invasion?" the Doctor asks.

"Why would we invade this God forsaken rock?" Asquith scoffs.

"Then something's brought the Slitheen race here, what is it?" Hermione cuts in, standing beside me.

"The Slitheen race?" Asquith asks her in a bit of a laugh, making her, the Doctor, and I frown.

"Slitheen is not our species, Slitheen is our surname," Green explains. "Jocrassa Fel Fotch Pasameer Day Slitheen at your service," he mock-bows.

"That's a hell of a name," I raise an eyebrow.

"So, you're family," the Doctor nods in understanding.

"It's a family business," Green agrees.

"So, you're out to make a profit," Hermione sums up.

"How can you do that on a 'God forsaken rock'?" the Doctor wonders.

"Ahhh... excuse me? Your device will do what? Triplicate the flammability...?" Asquith asks.

"Is that what I said?" the Doctor asks lightly.

"You're making it up!" Asquith accuses.

"Ah, well! Nice try," the Doctor shrugs. "Harriet, have a drink. I think you're gonna need it," he offers the port to her.

"Pass it to the left first," she says.

"Sorry," he murmurs, handing it to Rose.

"Thanks," Rose takes a swig, handing it to Indra, who hands it to Hermione after taking a swig as well.

"Now we can end this hunt... with a slaughter," Asquith flexes his claws.

The Doctor folds his arms and I lean against the doorway, my ankles crossed.

"Don't you think we should run?" Rose asks incredulously as the Slitheen move forward menacingly.

"You'd think that, wouldn't you," I say lightly.

"Fascinating history, Downing Street," the Doctor smirks. "2,000 years ago, this was marsh land. 1730, it was occupied by a Mr. Chicken; he was a nice man," he shakes his head with a small chuckle.

"1796, this was the cabinet room- if the cabinet's in session and in danger, these are about the four most safest walls in the whole of Great Britain," I explain, rolling my eyes when the Doctor smiles down at me. "Well, Muggle Great Britain," I add as an afterthought.

The Doctor smirks and lifts up a panel beside him, pressing a button: "end of lesson," he waves.

"You were great students, ta," I wiggle my fingers as the room is blocked off by metal shutters: "installed in 1991; three inches of steel lining every single wall," I turn to the humans.

"They'll never get in," the Doctor smirks, throwing an arm around my shoulders.

"And how do we get out?" Hermione and Rose ask together, smiling at each other after.

"Ah," the Doctor deflates.

"That's a bit of a problem, yeah," I admit, grimacing.

The Doctor and Indra carry the late Prime Minister into a cupboard. I smile softly, seeing the Doctor cross his hands over his body: "sorry," he murmurs before coming back into room. "Right, what have we got? Any terminals? Anything?" he asks.

"No, the place is antique," Rose shakes her head. "What I don't get, is when they killed the Prime Minister, why didn't they use him as a disguise?"

"He's too slim, they're big old beasts, they need to fit inside big humans," the Doctor explains.

"But the Slitheen are about 8 feet, how do they squeeze inside?" Hermione frowns.

"That device around their necks? It's a compression field, literally shrinks them down a bit," I explain, folding my arms.

"That's why there's all that gas, it's a big exchange," the Doctor adds.

"Wish I had a compression field, I could fit a size smaller," Rose jokes, making me smile.

"Excuse me, people are dead, this is not the time for making jokes," Harriet scolds.

"Sorry... you get used to this stuff when you're friends with them," Rose mutters, gesturing to the Doctor and I.

I send Rose a wink, making her smile, and lean against the wall beside where the Doctor was scanning the fireplace with his sonic.

"Well, that's a strange friendship," Indra comments.

"Harriet Jones, I've heard that name before, Harriet Jones," the Doctor muses suddenly. "You're not famous for anything, are you?"

"Huh! Hardly," Harriet shakes her head.

"Rings a bell, Harriet Jones..." the Doctor mutters.

"Lifelong back bencher I'm afraid, and a fat lot of use I'm being now, the protocols are redundant, they list the people who can help and they're all dead downstairs," Harriet shakes her head.

"Hasn't it got like, defense codes and things? Can we just launch a nuclear bomb at 'em?" Rose asks.

"You're a very violent young woman..." Harriet notes, eyeing her.

"You haven't tried waking Eva up in the morning," Hermione rolls her eyes and I 'glare' at her.

"I'm serious! We could!" Rose exclaims, trying not to laugh.

"Well, there's nothing like that in here," Indra shakes his head, looking over the protocols. "Nuclear strikes do need a release code, yes, but it's kept secret by the United Nations," he explains.

"Say that again," the Doctor stops scanning.

"What, about the codes?" Indra frowns.

"Anything, all of it," he tells him.

"Um, well... the British Isles can't gain access to atomic weapons without a special resolution from the UN," Indra explains.

"Like that's every stopped them," Rose snorts loudly.

"Exactly, given our past record, and I voted against that, thank you very much," Harriet puts in. "The codes have been taken out of the governments hands and given to the UN," she explains. "Is it important?"

"Everything's important," the Doctor mutters, looking to be in deep thought as he folds his arms.

"Wanna clue me in, medicine man?" I nudge him with my foot.

The Doctor turns to me with a sigh: "there's a way out... but it's dangerous, any chance-"

"I'm not leaving," I cut him off, glaring up at him.

The Doctor sighs again: "I thought so... if it comes to it, get Hermione and Rose to leave."

"Duh," I snort loudly, making everyone turn to us since the room had been silent. "Hi..." I smile awkwardly.

Harriet shakes her head: "if we only knew what the Slitheen wanted," she sighs and then blinks in surprise. "Listen to me, I'm saying 'Slitheen' as if it's normal," she says, wide-eyed.

"What do they want, though?" Rose asks.

"Well, there just a family... so it's not invasion," I mutter, taking my wand and twirling it in my hand.

"They don't want Slitheen world... they're out to make money, which means they want to use something, something here on Earth... some kind of asset," the Doctor mutters.

"Like what? Gold? Oil? Water?" Harriet asks.

"You're very good at this," the Doctor praises.

"Thank you," Harriet smiles, pleased.

"Harriet Jones, why do I know that name?" the Doctor wonders aloud.

"You know, I could of swore I heard Indra Ganesh somewhere as well," I mutter, but pause when I hear a phone beep.

"Oh! That's me," Rose gets hers out.

"But we're sealed off, how did you get a signal?" Indra gapes at her.

"He zapped it! Super-phone," Rose smiles, gesturing to the Doctor.

"Then we can phone for help! You must have contacts," Harriet turns to the Doctor and I.

"Dead downstairs, yeah," the Doctor retorts.

"It's Mickey," Rose gets our attention.

"Oh, tell your stupid boyfriend we're busy," I groan, throwing my head back.

"Yeah, he's not so stupid after all," she mutters, handing me the phone.

My eyes widen when I see a Slitheen being electrocuted: "call him," I hand her her phone back.

Rose phones Mickey and I hear him yelling, but not what he's saying: "is she alright, though?Don't put her on, just tell me," she says quickly.

I grab Rose's phone and she glares at me: "thanks, doll," I wink, making her roll her eyes, but smile. "Ricky-boy! Keep quiet and go to your computer," I tell him.

"It's Mickey," he replies petulantly. "And why should I?"

"Oh, Mickey the Idiot, I might just choke before I finish this sentence, but um, I need you," I cringe, making Rose smile, Hermione roll her eyes, and the Doctor snicker.

I hear Mickey say something as I plug the phone into the conference speaker: "what was that?" I ask.

"It's asking for the password," he tell me.

"Buffalo, two Fs, one L," the Doctor supplies.

"So, what's that website?" I hear Jackie ask.

"All the secret information known to mankind. See, they've known about aliens for years, they just kept us in the dark," Mickey says, making me roll my eyes.

"Mickey, you were born in the dark," the Doctor scoffs.

"Oh, leave him alone," Rose rolls her eyes and I stick my tongue out at her.

"Thank you," Mickey says smugly. "Password again," he tells me.

"Just repeat it, every time," I order.

"Big Ben, why did the Slitheen hit Big Ben?" the Doctor frowns.

"You said to gather the experts, to kill them," Indra shrugs.

"That lot would've gathered for a weather balloon, you don't need to crash land in the middle of London," the Doctor shakes his head.

"The Slitheen were hiding, and then they put the entire planet on red alert, what would they do that for?" Rose folds her arms, making me smile.

"Oh, listen to her," Jackie scoffs, making me glare at the speaker.

"At least I'm trying!" Rose argues.

"Well, I've got a question if you don't mind," Jackie snaps. "Because since those two walked into our lives, I have been attacked in the streets. I have had creatures from the pits of hell in my own living room, and my daughter's disappeared off the face of the Earth," she says, making me bite my lip guiltily.

"I told you what happened," Rose mutters, looking over at me.

"I'm talking to them," Jackie retorts. "Cause I've seen this life of yours, Doctor, Eva. And maybe you get off on it. And maybe you think it's all clever and smart, but you tell me. Just answer me this- is my daughter safe?" she asks and I just stare at the phone.

"I'm fine," Rose tries to assure her.

"Is she safe? Will she always be safe? Can you promise me that?" Jackie asks.

I look up at Rose, who was looking right at me. So many people have died around me... my mum, Uncle James, Aunt Lily, Sirius, Remus, Tonks, Fred, Mad-Eye, Dobby, all the people I've seen die traveling with the Doctor and my dad... so many.

"Well, what's the answer?" Jackie demands.

I swallow hard and don't look away from Rose, feeling a hand on my shoulder. I place my hand over Hermione's as Rose just stares back. We both know neither the Doctor or I could promise her mum that she'd always be safe. I knew if I looked at the Doctor right now I would see the same thing written all over his face, but I couldn't.

"We're in," Mickey says, breaking the silence and making me slump in relief.

"Right then, on the left, there's a tab, an icon, little concentric circles," the Doctor jumps into action. "Click on that," he orders.

"What is it?" Mickey asks.

"The Slitheen have a spaceship in the North Sea and it's transmitting that signal," I explain quickly. "Now shut up, let me and the Doctor work out what it's saying," I mutter, trying to listen.

"They'll have to answer me one day," Jackie scoffs.

"Hush!" Mickey hisses.

"It's some sort of message," the Doctor murmurs.

"What's it say?" Hermione asks.

"Don't know, it's on a loop, keeps repeating," the Doctor shakes his head and a doorbell comes over the phone. "Hush!"

"That's not me," Mickey tells us. "Go and see who that is," he orders Jackie.

"It's three o'clock in the morning," she protests.

"Well go and tell them that," he retorts, making me smile.

"It's beaming out into space, who's it for?" I furrow my eyebrows. "Is that... is that an advert?" I look up at the Doctor.

"Can't tell yet, but I think so," he narrows his eyes, trying to listen better.

"It's him! It's the thing, it's the Slickeen!" Jackie screams suddenly.

"They've found us," Mickey says unnecessarily.

"Mickey, we need that signal," I call.

"Never mind the signal, mum just get out! Mickey, get out! Get out!" Rose yells.

"We can't, it's by the front door," Mickey retorts. "Oh, my God. It's un-masking, it's gonna kill us," he gasps.

"There's got to be some way of stopping them!" Indra yells.

"You're supposed to be the experts, think of something!" Harriet yells at the Doctor and I.

"Oi, we're thinking!" I protest.

"I'll take it on, Jackie. You just run. Don't look back. Just run," Mickey says firmly.

Wow... he's actually pretty brave when he needs to be. I jump slightly when a loud crash comes over the phone.

"That's my mother," Rose whispers, her lip trembling.

Hermione wraps an arm around Rose's shoulder, rubbing her arm. The Doctor and I share a look.

"Ok!" I start to pace, twirling my wand. "If we're going to find their weakness, we need to find out where they're from- which planet," I mutter.

"Well, judging by their face and shape, that narrows it down to 5,000 planets within traveling distance," the Doctor tells me, pacing as well. "What else do we know about them?" he asks, getting blank looks from the humans.

"Come on, information!" I tell them.

"They're green," Rose blurts out.

"Yep, narrows it down," I point to her with my free hand.

"Uh, good sense of smell," Hermione says.

"Narrows it down," the Doctor nods.

"They can smell adrenaline," Indra puts in.

"Narrows it down," I smile.

"The compression technology," Harriet says.

"Narrows it down," the Doctor nods.

"The spaceship in the Thames, you said slipstream engine?" Rose asks.

"Narrows it down," I mutter.

"It's getting in!" Mickey yells when there's another crash.

"We're almost there!" Hermione calls.

"Oh! They hunt like it's a ritual," Rose says.

"Narrows it down," the Doctor nods.

"Wait a minute!" Harriet exclaims, making everyone look at her. "Did you notice, when they fart, if you'll pardon the word, it doesn't just smell like a fart; if you'll pardon the word, it's something else, what is it, it's more like uh... um..." she tries to think.

"Bad breath!" Hermione and Rose exclaim, smiling at each other after.

"That's it!" Indra points to them.

"Calcium decay!" I cheer.

"Now that narrows it down!" the Doctor runs.

"We're getting there, mum!" Rose calls.

"Too late!" Mickey yells.

The Doctor paces more anxiously; "calcium phosphate, organic calcium, living calcium, creatures made out of living calcium, what else, what else," he mutters.

My eyes widen: "hyphenated surname!" I bounce up and down, turning the the Doctor.

"Yes! That narrows it down to one planet!" he beams.

"Raxacoricofallapatorius!" we cheer at the same time.

"Oh, yeah, great. We could write 'em a letter," Mickey scoffs.

"Get into the kitchen!" the Doctor orders.

"My God, it's going to rip us apart!" Jackie screams.

"Calcium, recombined with compression field, ascetic acid," the Doctor says quickly. "Vinegar!" he cheers.

"Just like Hannibal!" Harriet exclaims.

"Just like Hannibal," I beam, pointing to her. "Mickey, have you got any vinegar?"

"How should I know?" he retorts.

"It's your kitchen," the Doctor gapes at the phone.

"Cupboard by the sink, middle shelf," Rose tells him quickly.

"Give it here, what do you need?" Jackie comes on the phone.

"Jackie, quick, anything with vinegar!" I tell her.

"Gherkins! Yeah! Pickled onions! Picked eggs!" Jackie cheers and I hear sloshing.

"You kiss this man?" the Doctor makes a face and Rose rolls her eyes whole Hermione and I snicker.

All of a sudden there was a loud fart sound and then a boom, making all of us sigh in relief.

"Hannibal?" Rose frowns.

"Hannibal crossed the Alps by dissolving boulders with vinegar," Harriet explains.

"Oh, well, there you go then," Rose mutters.

Indra pours everyone a glass of port and we toast. The Doctor and I immediately make faces.

"Bloody hell," I wrinkle my nose. "I definitely prefer butter beer," I stick my tongue out, making Hermione laugh.

"Butter beer?" Rose asks, furrowing her eyebrows.

"It's a wizard drink; tastes a bit like butterscotch," Hermione explains.

"Listen to this," Mickey says suddenly and we hear a news update.

Green: "Our inspectors have searched the sky above our heads and they have found massive weapons of destruction, capable of being deployed within 45 seconds."

"What?" the Doctor frowns.

Green: "Our technicians can, baffle, the alien probes. But not for long. We are facing extinction. Unless we strike first. The United Kingdom stands directly beneath the belly of the mother ship. I beg the United Nations- pass an emergency resolution. Give us the access codes! A nuclear strike at the heart of the ship is our only chance of survival. Because... from this moment on... it is my solemn duty to inform you... planet Earth is at war."

"He's making it up," I stare at the speaker. "There's no weapons up there, there's no threat," I protest.

"He just invented it," the Doctor agrees.

"Do you think they'll believe him?" Indra asks.

"They did last time," Hermione sighs.

"That's why the Slitheen went for spectacle," I mutter.

"They want the whole world panicking, because you lot, you get scared, you lash out," the Doctor nods.

"They release the defence codes..." Rose trails off.

"And the Slitheen go nuclear," I cringe.

"But why?" Harriet asks.

The Doctor and I head over to the doors and I open the metal shutters. There were Slitheen standing outside and a female one comes up to the front.

"You get the codes, release the missiles, but not into space because there's nothing there," I fold my arms.

"You attack every other country on Earth, they retaliate, fight back. World War Three, whole planet gets nuked," the Doctor glares.

"And we can sit through it in our spaceship waiting in the Thames. Not crashed. Just parked. They'll be two minutes away," the female grins at us wickedly.

"But you'll destroy the planet, this beautiful place," Harriet exclaims.

"What for?" Indra asks.

"Profit," I glare, clenching my fist around my wand. "That's what the signal is beaming into space, an advert," I say through clenched teeth.

"Sale of the century," she smirks at me. "We reduce the Earth to molten slag, then sell it. Piece by piece. Radioactive chucks capable of powering every cut-price star liner and budget cargo ship. There's a recession out there, Doctor, Evangeline, people are buying cheap. This rock becomes raw fuel."

"At the cost of 5 billion lives," Hermione glares, folding her arms.

"Bargain," the female sneers and I stand in front of Hermione.

"Then I give you the choice: leave this planet or we'll stop you," the Doctor tells her, nodding to me and the Slitheen burst out laughing.

"What? The two of you? Trapped in your box?" the female laughs.

"Yes, us," I glare at her, closing the shutters.

The female continues to laugh, but just as the shutters finish closing, her smirk fades. Everyone sits around the room while we wait. Indra and Harriet were in chairs, sitting next to each other. Rose was leaning against the table, the Doctor was leaning against the wall with his arms folded, and Hermione and I were laying on the floor together.

I grab Hermione's hand and sigh: "the Doctor and I have something that might work, but I need you to apparate to Rose's with her," I whisper.

"Eva, I'm not leaving you, come with us," she glares at me.

"I'm not leaving the Doctor and I need you and Rose to be safe, we can't get everyone out of here in time if it comes to it," I retort, sitting up. "Please?"

"Alright, Doctor, Eva," Jackie says over the phone before Hermione can answer. "I'm not saying I trust you, but there must be something one of you can do."

"If we ferment the porch, we could make ascetic acid," Harriet suggests.

"Mickey, any luck?" Rose asks.

"There's loads of emergency numbers, they're all on voicemail," Mickey sighs.

"Voicemail dooms us all," Indra groans.

"If we could just get out of here..." Rose mutters.

The Doctor glances at me and I nod: "there's a way out," he tells her.

"What?" Rose looks between the Doctor and I incredulously.

"There's always been a way out," I shrug.

"Then why haven't we used it?" Rose frowns.

I sigh, standing up and going over to the speaker: "because it's dangerous... very dangerous," I mutter.

"Please, Eva! Please! She's my daughter, she's just a kid! You're just a kid!" Jackie begs.

"I've fought and been through far worse," I give a derisive snort.

I go over and put my hands on Rose's shoulder: "we're saving the world, but we're not losing you," I tell her firmly. "Jackie, you're daughter's going to be safe," I promise. "Hermione?" I look at her, letting go of Rose.

"What-?" Rose is cut off by Hermione apparating out with her.

"Ready?" the Doctor asks.

"Yup," I nod, getting the protocols.

"How do we get out?" Indra asks.

"We don't, we stay here," the Doctor retorts, looking over my shoulder.

I jump when there's a pop and Hermione is back. I hand the protocols to the Doctor: "what the hell are you doing back!?"

"After everything we've been through, did you really think I was gonna let you do this on your own?" she raises an eyebrow.

"Fine," I glare at her. "Use the buffalo password, it overrides everything," I tell Mickey.

"What're you doing?" Jackie asks.

"Hacking into the Royal Navy," Mickey says, sounding shocked with himself. "We're in, here it is, uh... H.M.S. Taurean, Trafalgar Class Submarine, 10 miles off the coast of Plymouth," he tells us.

"Eva, what the hell!?" I hear Rose scream, making me wince... why does Mickey have to live in the same building?

"Not the time, Rose," I mutter.

"Right, we need to select a missile," the Doctor cuts off her reply.

"We can't go nuclear, we don't have the defense codes," Mickey says.

"We don't need it, all we need is an ordinary missile," I retort.

"What's the first category?" the Doctor asks.

"Sub Haffoon, UGMA4A," he replies.

"That's the one. Select," the Doctor orders.

"I could stop you," Rose tells him.

"Do it then," Mickey challenges.

"Ready for this?" I ask.

After a moment of silence, Mickey answers: "yeah," he says firmly.

"Mickey the Idiot. The world is in your hands," the Doctor sighs. "Fire," he orders.

"Oh, my God," Rose gasps.

"I'm sorry, doll, but you're safe," I tell her.

"But you're not!" she retorts. "Come to Mickey's flat, get out of there!"

"And leave everyone else here? Nah, can't do it," I shake my head.

"How solid are these?" Harriet asks, tapping on one of the metal windows.

"Not solid enough, built for short range attack, nothing this big," the Doctor sighs.

"Eva, Doctor, you can ride it out," Rose calls. "It's like what they say about earthquakes, you can survive 'em by standing under a door-frame!"

"Oh, you're good," Hermione smiles, going over to the cupboard. "This cupboard's small so it's strong," she looks around. "Come and help me! Come on!" she calls.

Harriet, Indra, Hermione, and I clear out the cupboard while the Doctor runs interference with Mickey. After he's done he grabs Rose's phone and runs into the cupboard. I sit in-between Hermione and the Doctor, Indra and Harriet on his other side.

"Nice knowing you all," Harriet smiles and we all get a hands. "Hannibal!" she cheers.

The five of us are shook around violently as the room spins around. After a few moments it stops and the Doctor and Indra help us up, the Doctor checking Hermione and I. The door won't open and Hermione rolls her eyes, holding her wand out: 'Bombarda'. The door blows out and we walk out onto the pile of rubble that was 10 Downing Street.

"Made in Britain," Harriet smiles, patting the steel wall.

"Are you alright?" a soldier comes up to us.

"Harriet Jones. MP, Flydale North," Harriet flashes her I'D card. "I want you to contact UN immediately, tell the ambassadors the crisis is over and they can step down. Go on, tell the news!"

"Yes, ma'am," he nods and runs off.

"Someone's got a hell of a job sorting this lot out," Harriet gestures to the burning rubble. "Oh, Lord! We haven't even got a Prime Minister!" her eyes widen.

"Well, maybe you should have a go," the Doctor smiles.

"Me? I'm only a back-bencher," Harriet laughs.

"I'd vote for you!" Hermione smiles.

"Now, don't be silly," she says bashfully. "Look, I'd better go and see if I can help," she climbs down the rubble. "Hang on! The Earth is safe! Sergeant!" she calls.

"I'd better go help her out," Indra smiles, running after her.

"I thought I knew the name," the Doctor smiles as the three of us head down as well. "Harriet Jones, future Prime Minister. Elected for three successive terms, the architect of Britain's Golden Age," he tells us.

"And Indra Ganesh, her right hand man," I smile at the two of them.

"The crisis has passed! Ladies and Gentlemen, I have something to say to you all!" Harriet calls, Indra right next to her, helping get the attention of the press.

"Come on, back to the TARDIS," the Doctor grins, grabbing my hand.

"You go ahead, Doctor," Hermione stops him. "I need to talk to Eva," she says.

"Fine," he sighs heavily. "Don't go too far," he tells me, kissing the top of my head.

"I won't," I assure him, my cheeks turning pink.

The second he was out of earshot, Hermione grabs my hand and we start to walk to the Powell Estate.

"So, what's going on between you and the Doctor?" she asks.

"What do you mean?" I frown.

"I mean, that the two of you have been awfully... close," she says, trying to be delicate.

"Don't even go there," I glare at her.

"Eva... I'm just worried about you," Hermione sighs, squeezing my hand.

"He's safe and familiar... so what if we hold onto each other. We've both been through hell since the last time we saw him," I mutter, letting go of her hand and fidgeting with my glove.

"That's why I'm worried," she retorts, not asking what happened to the Doctor. "Eva the last time you fancied someone and it started to become... intimate-

"I know what happened, I was there," I cut her off. "I freaked, ok! But... this is different, I don't fancy the Doctor, I just want to be away from everything for a while and he makes me feel safe and at home," I look away from her. "We need each other right now," I mutter.

Hermione stops and steps in front of me, searching my eyes before sighing: "alright... I believe you, but you're my best friend, my sister, I just want you to be happy," she pulls me into a hug.

"I am happy," I promise her. "Will you go to the Burrow, tell everyone I'll be coming to visit after me and the Doctor get Rose?" I pull away. "I want her to meet everyone," I smile.

"Yes, I will," she smiles. "I'm sure everyone will love her, she seems really great," she says, pulling her wand out.

"She is," I smile widely. "Bye, 'Mione," I wave.

"See you soon," she smiles, apparating away.

I sigh, running a hand through my hair as I walk the rest of the way to the TARDIS. I frown, seeing the words 'Bad Wolf' on the side in white spray paint. I see a young boy running off.

"Oi!" I call after him, making him freeze. "Get over here," I tell him sternly, hands on my hips.

"Yes, miss?" he asks, coming back over.

"Did you do this?" I ask, nodding to the words.

"No," he shakes his head quickly.

"So the white paint on your hands is just what? A coincidence?" I ask.

"Sorry, miss," he shuffles on his feet, looking down.

"Stay here, don't move," I tell him and he nods quickly.

I step into the TARDIS and grab a bucket of soap and water and a sponge, taking it out to the kid: "now, you got your hands dirty painting it, you can get your hands dirty cleaning it up," I hand them to him. "I want that spotless by the time I come back out, have you got that?" I raise an eyebrow.

"Yes, miss," he nods, getting to work.

I smile, going back inside and seeing the Doctor by the console: "didn't know you could be so frightening," he chuckles.

"Yeah, well, learned a few tricks from Mrs. Weasley," I smirk, skipping up to the console and leaning on it.

I pick up the phone, calling Rose while the Doctor works on the monitor to cancel the Slitheen advert.

"Hello?" Rose asks.

"How ya doing, doll?" I smile, making the Doctor snort.

"You're sticking with that, are you?" Rose asks, a smile in her voice.

"Yep! It fits you," I smirk and I can hear her eye-roll. "So, we'll be a couple of hours, then we can go," I tell her.

"You've got a phone?" Rose asks incredulously.

The Doctor comes over and takes the phone from me: "you think I can travel through space and time and I haven't got a phone?" he scoffs, making me laugh. "Like Eva said, couple of hours... we've just got to send out this dispersal..." he says as I do just that.

"There you go," I smile as the Doctor puts the phone on speaker. "That's canceling out the Slitheen's advert in case any bargain hunters turn up," I tell her.

"My mother's cooking," Rose says.

"That's nice," I smile.

"Good! Put her on a slow heat and let her simmer," the Doctor smiles, making Rose and I giggle.

"She's cooking tea; for us," Rose laughs.

"I don't do that," the Doctor tenses and I sigh, grabbing his hand.

"She wants to get to know you both," Rose protests.

"Rose, sweetie, maybe next time," I tell her softly.

"It's just tea," she tries.

"Not to me it isn't," the Doctor retorts.

"She's my mother," Rose insists.

"Well, she's not mine and she isn't Eva's!" the Doctor snaps.

"That's not fair!" Rose yells.

"Stop it, the both of you!" I snap. "Rose, we're not coming and that's that, you can stay if you want to, or..." I trail off and she stays quiet and I wink at the Doctor. "You could come with the Doctor and me to the Burrow and see a real wizard family home, your choice," I tell her.

"That's cheating," Rose mumbles and I can feel her glare.

"Coming or not, doll?" I ask.

"Give me a bit to get some things," she sighs heavily.

"See ya, then," the Doctor smiles, hanging up the phone. "You, Miss Evans, are fantastic," he smiles down at me.

"Yeah, I am pretty wicked, aren't I?" I smirk, making him laugh.

The Doctor and I head out of the TARDIS and I smile, seeing the boy had cleaned all of the graffiti off: "that's a good lad, graffiti her again and I'll have ya," I smile wider when his eyes widen.

"Now, beat it," the Doctor says firmly and he and I grin at each other when the boy hurries off.

I see Mickey sitting on an upside-down bin and he hops off, walking over to us: "I just went down the shop... and I was thinking, you know, like the whole world's changed. Aliens and spaceships all in public and here it is," he holds up a newspaper.

I snort when I see the headline: 'Alien Hoax?'

"How could they do that? They saw it!" Mickey exclaims.

"They're just not ready," the Doctor shrugs. "You're happy to believe in something that's invisible, but if it's staring you in the face, nope! Can't see it! There's a scientific explanation for that: you're thick," he smirks.

"We're just idiots," Mickey laughs.

"Well, not all of you," the Doctor admits, making me smile.

"Yeah?" Mickey asks, surprised.

"Yeah, Eva's brilliant," the Doctor smirks, throwing an arm around me.

I roll my eyes as Mickey scowls at the Doctor: "ignore him, he's being an arse," I tell Mickey and the Doctor shouts in protest. "Seriously, though, you saved the world, not bad," I smile at Rose's boyfriend.

"Really?" he smiles, looking pleased.

"Present for you, Mickey," the Doctor smiles, handing him a disc. "That's a virus. Put it online, it'll destroy every mention of me. I'll cease to exist," he explains.

"What do you want to do that for?" Mickey frowns.

"Cause you're right. I am dangerous. I don't want anybody following me," the Doctor says firmly.

"How can you say that, and then take her with you?" Mickey demands, gesturing to Rose as she comes out of the estate with her mum.

"She's got me, I'll protect her with my life," I tell him firmly.

"And you could look after her, come with us," the Doctor offers.

"I can't," Mickey admits. "This life of yours... it's just too much, I... I couldn't do it," he mutters. "Don't tell her I said that," he says quickly as Rose and Jackie come over.

"I'll get a proper job. I'll work weekends, I'll pass my test and if Jim comes round again, I'll say no. I really will," Jackie was pleading with her.

"I'm not leaving cause of you. I'm traveling, that's all. And then I'll come back!" Rose tells her.

"But it's not safe," Jackie protests.

"Mum... if you saw it out there... you'd never stay home," Rose tries to make her understand and then turns to the Doctor and I, taking her rucksack off.

"Got enough stuff? Sure you don't want to bring your bed as well?" I tease.

"Last time I stepped in there, it was spur of the moment," she retorts, shoving her bag into the Doctor's arms. "Now I'm signing up, you two are stuck with me," she laughs, pointing between the Doctor and I. "Come with us, there's plenty of room," she turns to Mickey.

"No chance, he's ah, a liability, I'm not having him on board," the Doctor says quickly.

"Can't have him mucking about the place," I nod in agreement.

"We'd be dead without him," Rose argues.

"Our decision is final," the Doctor says firmly.

"Sorry," Rose turns back to Mickey sadly and pulls him into a kiss.

"Good luck, then," Mickey waves.

"You still can't promise me," Jackie rounds on the Doctor and I. "What if she gets lost? What if something happens to you, Doctor, or Eva, and she's left all alone standing on some moon a million light years away- how long do I wait then?" she demands.

The Doctor hugs Rose's bag closer and I shuffle on my feet, about to say something, when Rose cuts in.

"Mum..." she sighs and Jackie turns to her. "You're forgetting, it's a time machine. I could go traveling around suns and planets and all the way out to the edge of the universe and by the time I get back, yeah, ten seconds would have passed. Just ten seconds," she puts her hands on her mum's shoulders. "So stop worrying... besides, Eva won't let anything happen to me," she smiles back at me briefly and I give a small one in return. "See you in ten seconds time. Hmm?" she hugs her.

The Doctor, Rose, and I head into the TARDIS and we set off to the Burrow... time to get my head ripped off by Mrs. Weasley.
