Chapter 14: Nice Save, Chuuya!
—> Female Atsushi Nakajima
"The truth is.. The truth is that I'm in lov-" Tanizaki tried to confess his feelings, but a certain somebody decided that this was the absolutely perfect moment to come in and mess up everything Tanizaki worked for. A cute, comfortable and somewhat nervous atmosphere, getting her alone, etc..
"Hey Atsushi!" Chuuya greeted, walking up to the duo on the bench. "How's it going?"
"We're doing fine," Atsushi smiled. "Oh, right! You probably haven't met Junichirou before. This is-"
"Tanizaki Junichiro, nice to meet you," he interrupted, sparing Atsushi the trouble. He mustered up the most brightest and friendliest smile he had. "What's your name?"
Both males knew each other, but for the sake of their mutual love interest Atsushi, they had to play along. Tanizaki didn't have to keep Chuuya's secret that he was in the Port Mafia, but he did. You owe me one, Tanizaki silently conveyed to Chuuya.
"Chuuya Nakahara," Chuuya begrudgingly returned the smile the best he could. "A pleasure."
Their eyes met and they had a silent stare-off that lasted a minute or so. Atsushi nervously watched the both of them. "U-Uhm, I should probably be heading home now," she got up from the bench, searching her mind for any excuses. "I need to, uh, get ready for tonight. Sorry!!" She ran off into the distance.
Chuuya and Tanizaki both sighed in unison. "You owe me one," Tanizaki repeated, but with his voice this time. "Next time you interrupt, I'm telling her."
The other ginger sat down on the bench and laughed. "She would never believe you. She thinks I'm just someone who works for a suit shop or something."
"Suit shop?" Tanizaki has to join the laughter at that one.
"It came up yesterday at the restaurant and I panicked," Chuuya explained before a sly smile spread across his lips. "At least she'll consider me as a love interest. I'm not a co-worker, after all."
"You're an executive for the Port Mafia. I'm pretty sure she'll choose a co-worker over a mafia executive any day," Tanizaki's phone beeped with a message and his smile dropped. "I gotta go. My sister is going crazy right now."
"Good luck," Chuuya snorted.
—> A few weeks later. . .
—> Male Atsushi Nakajima
It had been a little over a month already, and Atsushi had gained only a few of his memories. He had been working hard to get his memories back, encouraged by the antics of Dazai and the others. Did he really know these crazy people? Plus, they also mentioned something about a female version of himself. That's a scary thought.
After getting in a few fights with Port Mafia lackeys, his muscle memory became clear that he was a fighter, which jolted a memory consisting of a male Akutagawa cutting off his leg and extreme pain. Following that was a memory of a girl with a red kimono with a cellphone around her neck. He got that memory by walking by a few shops.
As he thought about the few memories he recalled, Atsushi rested his head on the desk in front of him. He didn't have much to go off of for his past, which irritated him. I just want my memories back, he thought with a quiet groan.
"Is something wrong, Atsushi-kun?" Dazai strolled over to him and laid her soft hands on his shoulders. "Have you finally decided you want to commit lover's suicide with me?"
"No, Dazai-san, I haven't," Atsushi replied curtly. "Sorry, but can you leave me alone for today? I've.." He sighed. "I've got a lot on my mind."
"But Atsushi-kun-" Dazai tried, but Kunikida quickly shut her down.
"If he says to leave him alone, leave him alone," Kunikida firmly told Dazai. "Get back to work, you bandage wasting machine!"
"So mean, Kunikida-chan~"
—> Female Atsushi Nakajima
It had been a little over a month for the female Atsushi as well. Unlike her other version, she hadn't been working to get her memories back. It's not like she didn't want to get them back, but she was so busy trying to interact with all her love interests that she completely forgot. No one could blame her for that.
Lately, she's been trying to divide her time between work and giving attention to Dazai, Tanizaki, and Chuuya. (Akutagawa was of course cut out of the equation. Atsushi didn't want to interact with him, and his position in the Port Mafia didn't help.) She had no time to focus on herself and her situation in this world.
Finally, Atsushi just snapped. She didn't show up to work and instead focused on training. She called in sick earlier, so she was fine to do whatever she wanted. She trained and trained until she could barely move her body. She wanted to be stronger— to prove that she wasn't someone to be considered a damsel in distress.
Training in the empty warehouse suddenly jolted a memory— one of her being confronted by a female Dazai and Kunikida. They led her to a warehouse very similar to the one she was in, and said they were 'laying a trap for the tiger', when they were laying a trap for her. It worked out well in the end, so it didn't really matter either way. With this sudden memory, she froze her movements in shock. She clutched at her head.
"Was that.. Real?" She muttered to herself. "Did I really just get one of my memories back?" She turned her head to the windows in the warehouse that was high up, and watched the moonlight filter in. The difference from back then and now is that she was able to control her ability.
Atsushi had a bad feeling for what was gonna happen in her future.
