Prologue

It is said that the Time Paradox is the most dangerous of the Seven Great Inventions of Margaret D'Baile. The Time Paradox has the ability to warp time, and the place to that of the user's desire. However, to return to their time period, the user must find an artifact, the equivalent of the paradox wherever they travel- past, future or even another dimension.

The Time Paradox was used freely in the dark ages, but in the era of the necromancers and enchanters, the Twelve Great Sages, fearing the dangers of such power, sealed the time control into a certain family, to be passed down from generation to generation. The power had a lesser control over time, being unable to warp the place. Using an ancient seal and method long forgotten, they locked away the other half of the power, hoping it would never again be used. They were wrong.

Centuries passed, and the seal began weakening. An ageless demon, unnamed because to speak it or even write it invokes their Presence, channeled this power from the pits of Hell to get to Earth, in the guise of a human. He lived a relatively normal life, marrying and seducing an innocent woman. Only when the child was born did the mother realise the monster the father really was. In vain, she tried to protect the child, and died for her efforts. To this day, the child is protected from the demon because of the mother's sacrifice. Ironically, the safeguard solidified into a ring on the infant's left hand ring finger, and there it lies to this day. If ever removed, the demon within the child shall be released, and will be even more fearsome than the demon father.

But what of the other half of the Paradox? Years of intermarriage and the diluting of the bloodline, as the Sages hoped, greatly reduced the power of time control. The current possessor of the power is unable to harness it fully, since the birth of the demon child. The power is blocked, by a magical shield, that only one pure of heart, and with a clear conscience, can break.
