The Satan pit
Violet tightly squeezed her eyes shut, as Jones held her against him. She squeezed them even more when she heard Jefferson shot, which was then followed by the sound of bullets being fired by multiple guns. She had hoped there was a better way to deal with the possessed Ood then shot them, but unfortunately she felt if she was Jefferson and his men she would have done the same.
''Doctor? Doctor, can you hear me? Doctor, Ida, are you there?'' Rose's shouting was the thing that brought Violet out of her thoughts. She ran over to where Rose was stood by the Comm, Jones followed behind.
She waited with Rose for a reply, but at that moment all they heard was silence. However, not one of the three people surrounding the Comm where negative people, each one of them believed that the Doctor was ok and that he'd find a way back, like he always did.
''Open door 25.'' At the sound of the computer opening the door everyone in the room turned towards it, Jefferson and his men pointing guns, just in case more Ood where coming.
''It's me! But they're coming,'' Relief spread across everyone's faces, Danny was ok. Although hearing there were Ood on their way was a cause for just slight concern.
''It's the Ood. They've gone mad,'' Danny continued as the computer closed the door behind him.
''How many of them?'' Jefferson asked.
''All of them! All fifty!'' Danny exclaimed.
''Fifty, why do you need so many, do you have one each for tying your shoe laces or something,'' Jones spat out annoyed that one the Ood were still possessed and two there was no way they could stop fifty of them.
''Danny, out of the way. Out of the way!'' Jefferson ordered, ignoring Jones's comment.
''But they're armed! It's the interface device. I don't know how, but they're using it as a weapon,'' Danny explained trying to reason with the man, but he didn't listen. Jefferson shoved Danny out of the way before then opening door 25.
Violet was busy trying to see if she could get the Doctors comm to work via the computer she was currently typing at. So she had no idea what had occurred at door 25 until she heard the scream of a women. Turing around she saw one of Jefferson's people fall to the ground as a Ood held its orb to her head. She knew she shouldn't have let the small smile grow on her face, but id the Ood were using their communicators as weapons it meant they had to defiantly have had a better purpose in life than being salves/ servants to people.
''Everyone together. Rose? What about Ida and the Doctor? Any word?'' Violet heard Zach ask over the Comm in Rose's hand.
''I can't get a reply. Just nothing, Violets trying,'' Rose replied.
''Wait I think I've got it Rose switch back to the Doctor,'' Violet said hoping she'd managed to fix the connection.
''I'm fine. Still here, thanks to Violet,'' The Doctor replied and Violet didn't have to see his face to know he had a small smile on his face.
''Your a geniuses,'' Rose exclaimed pulling Violet into a bone crushing hug.
''Well I do try,'' Violet breathed out as she felt Rose crush her lungs.
''Whoa. Careful! Being clever can be a dangerous occupation Violet. Anyway, it's both of us. Me and Ida. Hello. But the seal opened up. It's gone. All we've got left is this chasm,'' The Doctor explained, as Rose, Jones, Violet and Danny crowded around the one Comm.
''How deep is it?'' Zach asked.
''Can't tell. It looks like it goes down forever,'' The Doctor replied.
''The pit is open,'' Rose murmured.
''And I am free,'' Jones added.
''That's what the voice said,'' Rose explained.
''Yeah don't worry we aren't possessed,'' Jones joked realising what they had just said may have seemed a little weird and or creepy.
''Jones nobody was really worried,'' Violet said shaking her head at him, signalling that it wasn't the right time for his jokes and sarcasm.
''But there's nothing. I mean. There's nothing coming out?'' Zach asked confusion laced in his voice.
''No, no. No sign of the Beast,'' The Doctor confirmed.
''It said Satan,'' Rose said.
''Come on, Rose. Keep it Together,'' The Doctor replied.
''Is there no such thing? Doctor,'' Rose asked, a little worried.
''Oh I don't know Rose, have you met Maria, my guardian I'm pretty sure she might be a spawn of Saturn,'' Violet intended for her word to calm Rose down, but she had a felling it didn't work.
''Doctor, tell me there's no such thing,'' Rose repeated.
''We'll introduce you to Maria then you'll have your answer,'' Jones answered after the Doctor didn't say anything.
''She couldn't have been that bad, could she?'' Rose asked after realising the Doctor wasn't giving her an answer.
''Rose she hadn't let me leave for over 300 years and I'm 465 years old Rose,'' Jefferson and Danny eyebrows almost shot off their foreheads.
''Ok, I don't think I need to meet her now,'' Rose replied as Jones smirked.
''How can you be that old?'' Danny blurted out.
''Actually for her race she's still only a teenager really,'' Jones explained causing them to look even more surprised and confused as before.
''Hey is anyone still there,'' The Doctors voice came over the Comm, as he had noticed the long silence.
''Yeah, we are,'' Violet called back.
''We're coming back up,'' The Doctor stated simply.
''Best news I've heard all day,'' Rose said relieved.
However, when she turned to face Jones and Violet she noticed their hard expressions. It was only when she turned that she saw it, Jefferson pointing a gun a Toby.
''What're you doing?'' Rose asked, not liking the situation in front of her.
''He's infected. He brought that thing on board. You saw it,'' Jefferson reasoned.
''It wasn't an infection, it was a conscious, something that's seeks out a body, not a disease,'' Violet snapped, she couldn't believe it had taken her that long to notice that Jefferson wasn't the brightest person on board.
''Are you going to start shooting your own people now, Is that what you're going to do? Is it?'' Rose added.
'' If necessary,'' Jefferson spoke, raising the gun in his hand again.
''Well then, you'll have to shoot me if necessary, so what's it going to be? Look at his face. Whatever it was, is gone. It passed into the Ood. You saw it happen. He's clean,'' Rose said trying to reason with him.
''Put the gun down solider,'' Jones added, his voice turning it to the one he would use when training the recruits back on La armeo de la Universo. It also never failed to send a chill down Violets spin and she could tell be how Danny and Rose shifted uncomfortably that it did it to them to.
''What right do you have to call me that?'' Jefferson said fury rising in his voice. To Violet it looked like he didn't like to be given orders.
''Maybe Rose should have introduced we probably, I'm Commander Michael Jones of La armeo de la Universo, so I'm telling you to put the gun down,'' Jones ordered.
''Fine, but any sign of trouble, I'll shoot him,'' Jefferson replied lowing his weapon and moving away from Toby.
''I'll be the judge of that,'' Jones muttered returning the glare Jefferson was giving him.
''Are you all right?'' Rose asked Toby as her and Violet went over to help him.
''Yeah. I don't know,'' Toby replied.
Violet wanted to believe him, but one look into his eyes and she saw it again, something hiding and waiting. Whatever had been controlling him and now the Ood, was still inside of him. It was playing the waiting game and that was enough for Violet to know that it was clever. The devil was clever.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
''Nice job back there with Jefferson by the way,'' Violet praise Jones and they all waited for Ida and the Doctor to be hauled back up to the surface.
''Ascension in three, two, one,'' Jefferson counted down and as soon as he said one the lights suddenly went out, leaving everyone in the dark, including Ida and the Doctor.
''This is the darkness. This is my domain,'' A voice speaks, and as it does Violets notice the one monitor in the room flicker before showing the Image of the Ood.
''What the,'' Jones begins, but doesn't finish.
''You little things that live in the light, clinging to your feeble suns which die in the,'' The voice continued before being cut off by Zach.
''That's not the Ood. Something's talking through them.''
''That's what I've been telling you, humans really need to work on their listening skills, I mean it's disgraceful,'' Violet ranted before the voice then continued to speak.
''Only the darkness remains.''
''This is Captain Zachary Cross Flane of Sanctuary Base Six, representing the Torchwood archive. You will identify yourself,'' Violet breath hitched as Lily's words played in her head again 'Never go to earth and if you do beware of Torchwood.'
''You know my name.''
''What do you want?''
''You will die here. All of you. This planet is your grave.''
''Well at least this place has a kitchen,'' Jones remarked, which was swiftly followed by a cry of pain as Violet slapped him across the chest.
''It's him. It's him. It's him,'' Toby cried out.
''If you are the Beast, then answer me this. Which one, hmm? Cos the universe has been busy since you've been gone. There's more religions than there are planets in the sky. The Archiphets, Orkology, Christianity, Pash Pash, New Judaism, San Klah, Church of the Tin Vagabond. Which devil are you?'' The Doctor asked, Violet was glad his comm was still working.
''All of them,'' The Voice replied.
''What, then you're the truth behind the myth?'' the Doctor questioned.
''This one knows me as I know him. The killer of his own kind.''
''What?'' Violet blurted out confused, there was no way her father killed the Time lords. Was there?
''How did you end up on this rock?'' The Doctor continued to question ignoring Violets outburst.
''The Disciples of the Light rose up against me and chained me in the pit for all eternity.''
''I wouldn't blame them,'' Jones chipped in and Violet couldn't be bothered to even glare at him so she just let him comment whatever he wanted.
'' When was this?'' The Doctor asked again.
''Before time,'' It replied.
''What does that mean?''
''Before time.''
''What does before time mean?'' The Doctor asked worn out about how many questions he had to ask the voice.
''Before light and time and space and matter, before the cataclysm. Before this universe was created,'' It replied.
''That's impossible. No life could have existed back then,'' The Doctor replied.
''Is that your religion?'' The Voice asked.
''It's a belief,'' The Doctor stated.
''You know nothing. All of you, so small. The Captain, so scared of command,'' The Voice taunted referring to Zach.
''The soldier, haunted by the eyes of his wife. The scientist, still running from Daddy. The little boy who lied. The virgin,'' Violet had hoped the voice was done once it had finished with Toby, but it carried on speaking.
''The young time Lady who has seen her past, present and future. She knows what's coming. The destiny she is so scared of is so very close,'' She felt numb, she knew the Doctor had heard what it had said and she knew he would have question. Question she didn't want to answer just yet.
''Let's not forget about the commander, the man who is in love with the one person that could possibly never be his,'' Violet looked over at Jones and swore she saw a tear roll down his cheek, before he quickly wiped it away.
''And the lost girl, so far away from home. The valiant child who will die in battle so very soon,'' Violets head shot up, it was referring to Rose, Rose and a battle. What battle could that possibly be?
''Doctor, what does that mean?'' Rose asked worry laced in her voice.
''Rose, don't listen,'' The Doctor replied.
''What does it mean?'' She asked again.
''You will die and I will live,'' The voice taunted again. At the same time the image on the screen chances and shows a big, red, horned best roaring at them.
Rose was scared, Jones was trying not to cry and Violet, well Violet was trying not to think about what the Untempered Schism and the future it had shown her; her future to be exact and she couldn't be more worried about it.
There was stunned silence for, not actually that long, but to Violet it seemed to drag on and on. So when Danny begun to speak, even if he was panicked, she felt some relief.
''What the hell was that?''
''I had that thing inside my head,'' The horror on Toby's face made Violet feel sorry for him, mainly because she knew it was still inside him, just waiting for the right time to strike again.
''Doctor, what did it mean?'' Rose asked, the words of the best still clear in her head.
''What do we do? Jefferson?'' Dannay asked still in panic.
''Captain? What's the situation on strategy nine?'' Jefferson asked.
''Zach, what do we do?'' Danny repeated, becoming stressed.
''The planet, the orbit, the black hole. Everything's true,'' Toby spoke up adding to the panic and questions that were flying around.
''Captain, report,'' Jefferson barked into his comm.
Although the chaos and question Jones and Violet just stood and watched. They knew humans panicked, but they didn't realise how much and that they never just stop and think about the situation. There were so many moments during the many questions that both of them opened their mouths to say something, but another question would be fired before they could utter a letter.
''Doctor, how did it know all of,'' Violet sighed as Rose chipped in again, which was then followed by Ida saying something, which Violet didn't quite catch.
''Jefferson,'' Zach's voice then joined in again and Jones groaned wondering when they would eventually stop.
''Stop,'' The Doctor said trying to get them to shut up.
''What did it mean?'' Rose asked again and it was Violets turn to groan, Rose had asked that question about five times now.
''Everyone just stop,'' The Doctor finally shouted, but still nobody listened.
''What do we do?'' Danny said panicking again.
''Report,'' Jefferson was still trying to talk to Zach.
Then as the horrible crackle and high pitch ring of feedback coming through to comm finally managed to get everyone to stop.
''You want voices in the dark. Then listen to mine. That thing is playing on very basic fears. Darkness, childhood nightmares, all that stuff,'' The Doctor explained managing to answer Rose's question eventually.
''But that's how the devil works,'' Danny pointed out.
''Or a good psychologist,'' The Doctor commented.
''That wants to scare everyone to death, no offence Doctor, but it sounded more like the devil than a psychologist,'' Jones added, still a little shaken from what the voice had said about him.
''Yeah, how did it know about my father?'' Ida spoke up, from being silent for a while.
''Okay, but what makes his version of the truth any better than mine, hmm? Cos I'll tell you what I can see. Humans. Brilliant humans. Humans who travel all the way across space, flying in a tiny little rocket right into the orbit of a black hole, just for the sake of discovery. That's amazing! Do you hear me? Amazing, all of you. The Captain, his Officer, his elders, his juniors, his friends. All with one advantage. The Beast is alone. We are not. If we can use that to fight against him.''
''Doctor,'' Violet screamed as the cable that had been bringing them up snapped.
''Doctor, we lost the cable! Doctor, are you all right? Doctor!'' Rose then shouted frantically into the comm, but no answer came.
''Comms are down,'' Zach said his voice coming through instead of the Doctor's.
''Doctor? Doctor, can you hear me?'' Rose spoke trying again.
''I've still got life signs, but we've lost the capsule,'' Violet breathed a sigh of relief at least they knew that the Doctor and Ida were still alive.
''Say something. Are you there?'' Rose was desperately wanting a reply.
''Rose, he's not going to reply,'' It was Jones who had moved over to Rose and spoken. He took her hand with the comm in and made her put it down by the monitor, and then he pulled her into a hug.
''There's no way out. They're stuck down there,'' Zach spoke his voice cracking a little.
''Rose you know he'll come back, he's the Doctor he'll always find a way,'' Jones kept his voice low trying to calm Rose down as he pulled away from the hug.
''They're ten miles down. We haven't got another ten miles of cable,'' Loud banging against door 25 cut Jefferson off.
''Captain? Situation report,'' He then asked.
''It's the Ood. They're cutting through the door bolts. They're breaking in,'' Zach explained.
''Well technically it's not the Ood it's the conscious that's controlling them,'' Violet pointed out as she looked over at the monitor to see the red eyes of the Ood trying to cut through the door.
''Yeah, it's the same on door 25,'' Jefferson replied to Zach looking over at the monitor as well.
''How long's it going to take?'' Rose asked referring to how long the Ood would take to get in.
''Well, it's only a basic frame, it should take ten minutes,'' Jefferson replied, but then another bolt snaps from the other side of the door, ''Eight,'' he then corrected.
''Right. So we need to stop them, or get out, or both,'' Rose said.
''Both sounds good to me,'' Jones commented. '' Same here,'' Violet added
''I'll take both, as well yeah, but how?'' Danny asked.
''You heard the Doctor. Why do you think that thing cut him off? Cos he was making sense. He was telling you to think your way out of this. Come on! For starters, we need some lights. There's got to be some sort of power somewhere,'' Violet smiled at Rose's words proud that she wasn't the one who had to try and control the situation on her own.
''She's right Zach could you do that, get the power started?'' Violet asked, picking up the Comm that Jones had made Rose put down.
''There's nothing I can do. Some Captain, stuck in here, pressing buttons,'' Zach replied frustrated.
''Yes there is Zach, there's always something, just look what's right in front of you buttons,'' Violet exclaimed.
''That's what the Doctor meant. Press the right buttons,'' Rose added.
''They've gutted the generators. But the rocket's got an independent supply. If I could reroute that. Mister Jefferson Open the bypass conduits. Override the safety,'' Violet and Rose grinned at each other together they were managing to get somewhere.
''Opening bypass conduits, sir,'' Jefferson responded as he went to open them.
''Channelling rocket feed in three, two, one. Power,'' Zach counted down and within seconds the lights flicked back on.
''And we have light,'' Jones cheered.
''Wait hang does that mean your strategy nine thing might work now?'' Violet asked as everyone celebrated that they had light.
''Not enough power. It needs a hundred percent,'' Jefferson replied.
''Why can't things just this once run on less than hundred,'' Violet groaned.
''All right, we need a way out. Zach, Mister Jefferson, you start working on that. Toby, what about you?'' Rose said and immediately they all listened, much to Violets surprise.
''I'm not a soldier. I can't do anything,'' Toby hung his head as he spoke.
''No, you're the archaeologist. What do you know about the pit?'' Rose asked.
''Well, nothing. We can't even translate the language,'' Toby replied.
''You can try,'' Jones cut in.
''Wait since that thing was inside my head, it's like the letters made more sense,'' Toby stated.
''Well, get to work. Anything you can translate, just anything,'' Rose said and Toby then sat back down trying to work out the writing.
''I'll help, I may be of use,'' Violet suggested and went to sit next to him. Although she was telling the truth about wanting to help, but the real reason she wanted to stay near Toby was to keep an eye on him.
''Hey,'' She greeted as she went to sit next to him. He had a clear view of the monitor, which had the strange symbols running across it.
''You don't have to help,'' He said.
''No it's fine,'' She reassured him with a smile. However, it faltered when she saw red flicker in his eyes and when she turned she was sure he heard him whisper, but not in his voice, the voice that belonged to the conscious.
''He isn't real.''
''I'm sorry, what did you just say?'' Violet asked turning back to face Toby.
''I didn't say anything,'' Toby replied a confused look on his face.
''I said, he isn't real.''
''Who?'' Violet asked.
''Are you Ok?'' Violet huffed as Toby's voice met her ears not the other one.
''Yeah, yeah, I'm just going to check if anyone needs any help. Oh and just so I wasn't completely useless I think that line symbols supposed to mean, trapped for eternity, or something like that,'' With that said a slightly confused and shaken Violet moved to join Jones and Danny who were looking for away to stop the Ood.
''Having any luck,'' She asked standing next to Jones.
''We're trying,'' Jones replied wrapping his arm around her shoulders, ''Are you alright?'' He then asked realising she was supposed to be helping Toby.
''Yeah I'm fine, I gave Toby some help, he'll be ok,'' Violet responded.
''There's all sorts of viruses that could stop the Ood. Trouble is, we haven't got them on board,'' Danny was getting frustrated again as he slammed his hands down on the keyboard.
''Hey calm down mate, there has to be something,'' Jones said trying to calm Danny down.
''Well, that's handy, listing all the things we haven't got. We haven't got a swimming pool either. Or a Tesco's,'' Rose commented.
''Oh, my God. It says yes. I can do it. Hypothetically, if you flip the monitor, broadcast a flare, it can disrupt the telepathy. Brainstorm!'' Dannay exclaimed as the screen flashed up with the big bold letters belonging to the one word they all wanted to see, affirmative.
''What happens to the Ood?'' Rose asked.
''It'll tank them spark out,'' Danny explained.
''So it basically knocks them out,'' Violet commented, earning a nod from Danny.
''There we are, then. Do it!'' Rose said relief evident in her voice.
''No, but I'd have to transmit from the central monitor. We need to go to Ood Habitation,'' Violet sighed at what Danny had just told them. There was no way they were going to make it to Ood Habitation without being attacked by the Ood.
''That's what we'll do, then. Mister Jefferson, sir. Any way out?'' Rose called.
''Just about. There's a network of maintenance tunnels running underneath the base. We should be able to gain access from here,'' Jefferson replied.
''Ventilation shafts,'' Rose said simply.
''Yeah, I appreciate the reference, but there's no ventilation. No air, in fact, at all. They were designed for machines, not life forms,'' Jefferson explained.
''It's never easy is it?'' Jones threw in.
''It appears not,'' Violet murmured.
''I can manipulate the oxygen field from here. Create discrete pockets of atmosphere. If I control it manually, I can follow you through the network,'' Zach spoke up his voice travelling through the comm.
''Right, so we go down and you make the air follow us by hand,'' Rose nodded confirming what he had just said.
''You and Violet wanted me pressing buttons,'' Zach muttered.
''Yeah, we asked for it. Okay, we need to get to Ood Habitation. Work out a route,'' Rose ordered and went to help Jefferson with finding a way into the vents.
''Guys, you might want to hurry it up a little,'' Violet shouted as she noticed the Ood weren't far off from getting through the door.
''Danny!'' Rose screamed at Danny, realising he was the only one that wasn't with them.
''Hold on! Just conforming,'' Danny shouted back.
''Dan, we got to go now! Come on!'' Jefferson ordered.
''Yeah!'' Danny said as he pulled an orange square USB out of the computer, before then running over to the group.
''Put that in the monitor and it's a bad time to be an Ood,'' Danny held the square up to show Rose, a grin on his face.
''We're coming back. Have you got that? We're coming back to this room and we're getting the Doctor out,'' Rose demanded, not wanting to leave without him.
''Okay. Danny, you go first, then you, Miss Tyler, then Toby, Violet your next and Jones. I'll go last in defensive position. Now, come on, quick as you can!'' Jefferson ordered and one by one they all lowered themselves down into the ventilation shaft.
''Which way do we go?'' Violet heard Danny ask once they were all in the tunnel.
'''Just go straight ahead. Keep going till I say so,'' Zach replied and without further ado the group begun to craw quickly through the tunnel.
''Not your best angle, Danny,'' Rose commented after a small period of time of silence.
''Oi, stop it,'' Danny snapped, not seeming to be in the mood.
''I don't know, it could be worse,'' Toby then stated from behind Rose.
''Oi!'' Rose snapped.
''Jones don't even think about saying anything,'' Violet turned her head just to look back at him.
''I wasn't even going to attempt to say anything,'' Jones defended before muttering ''out loud.'' Fortunately for him Violet didn't hear him because if she had he would have probably been kicked.
''Straight on until you find junction seven point one. Keep breathing. I'm feeding you air. I've got you,'' Zach's commands came over the Comm once again and following his instructions it didn't take the group long before reached seven point one.
''We're at seven point one, sir,'' Danny spoke as they all stopped and sat down at the sides of the tunnel.
''Okay, I've got you. I'm just aerating the next section,'' Zach reassured them.
''Getting kind of cramped, sir. Can't you hurry up?'' Danny pleaded.
''He's not wrong,'' Violet added as she found herself cramped in between Danny and Jones, with Rose, Toby and Jefferson opposite them.
''I'm working on half power, here,'' Zach said.
''Stop complaining,'' Jefferson piped up.
''Mister Jefferson says stop complaining,'' Rose repeated for Danny and Violet.
''We heard,'' Violet replied.
''They heard,'' Rose repeated for Jefferson.
''But the air's getting a bit thin,'' Toby spoke up.
''He's complaining now,'' Rose pointed out.
''I heard,'' Jefferson snapped back.
''Danny, is that you?'' Rose asked as she sniffed smelling something that didn't smell very nice.
''Yeah I think it might be,'' Violet confirmed.
''I'm not exactly happy,'' Danny defended.
''I'm just moving the air; I've got to oxygenate the next section. Now, keep calm or it's going to feel worse,'' Zach said speaking calmly as to reassure all of them that it would be fine.
''I think it might be a bit late for Danny to,'' Jones was cut off as a loud bang came from the end of the tunnel.
''That didn't sound good,'' Violet said the last part slowly as her eyes met Jones's. If Zach didn't get the door open soon then they were all going to be in big trouble.
The atmosphere in the air vent tunnel grew worse by the second. The loud bang that had emitted from where they had entered made everyone instantly panic more, well Toby and Danny more than anybody else.
''What was that?'' Danny asked.
''Mister Jefferson, what was that?'' Rose asked her voice a lot calmer than Danny's had been.
''What's that noise?'' Toby added.
''Well the noise sounded like a loud bang, as for the origin of it nobody had a clue so just calm down,'' Violet snapped, she had had enough of all their questions, they were very agitating.
''Captain, what was that?'' Jefferson asked quietly, not wanting to get shouted at by the curly haired blonde woman, again.
''The junction in Habitation Five's been opened. It must be the Ood. They're in the tunnels!'' Zach exclaimed.
''Well, open the gate,'' Danny shouted.
''I've got to get the air in!'' Zach called back.
''Just open it, sir,'' Danny shouted again.
''Where are they? Are they close?'' Rose asked zach.
''I don't know. I can't tell. I can't see them. The computer doesn't register Ood as proper life forms,'' Zach explained.
''Who's idea was that then, Ood are proper life forms,'' Violet was also becoming in patient, but she choice to hide it and talk about something else then how slow Zach was being. Although she couldn't blame him for the speed, he was the one that was trying to make sure they didn't die in the tunnels form lack of oxygen.
''Open the gate!'' The moment the words left Danny's mouth again the metal door behind him lifted up and without being told twice he bolted through it, closely followed by everybody else.
''Danny, turn left. Immediate left,'' Zach ordered from over the Comm and sure enough the group found themselves turning left.
''The Ood, sir. can't you trap them? Cut off the air?'' Jefferson asked as he looked around to see if the Ood where anywhere near them.
''Not without cutting off yours,'' Zach replied sighing. ''Danny, turn right. Go right! Go fast, Dan. They're going to catch up,'' Zach ordered and Danny didn't need to be told twice to hurry up.
''I'll maintain defensive position,'' Jefferson said stopping to sit down, holding his gun out ready.
''You can't stop!'' Rose shouted, noticing what he was doing.
''Miss Tyler, that's my job. You've got your task, now see to it,'' Jefferson spoke, taking in a deep breath he turns away from her and doesn't budge from where he currently sat.
''You heard what he said, now shift,'' Toby said pulling Rose away.
''I can stay if you need help,'' Jones offered, after he'd hung back to let Violet, Rose and Toby through.
''No, no you go, I'll be fine,'' Jones nodded giving Jefferson a salute, before he then turned to catch up with the others.
------------------------------------------------
''Thank god, I thought you'd done something incredibly stupid for a moment, again,'' Violet was relieved when she saw Jones appear after he had seemingly disappeared.
''I was just a little slow,'' Jones defended shrugging he shoulders, ''and what do you mean again?'' However, he didn't get an answer and he was sure it was because she either didn't hear him or she didn't want to answer it.
''Open it now!'' Or it may have had something to do with how angry and annoyed Danny was becoming.
''I'm trying,'' Zach replied.
Zach's words did nothing to calm Danny down as he started to hit the metal gate.
''Danny,'' Violet snapped ''Just calm down, would you, everything will be fine,'' She reassured him and her words did make him fall silent, but for how long Violet didn't know.
''Zach, get it open!'' Toby than begun to yell.
''That wasn't an invitation for you to start yelling,'' Jones spoke this time sending a glare Toby's way which made the man clamp his mouth shut.
''That's it! Come on,'' Danny cheered as the gate lifted allowing them all to through.
''Danny, turn left and head for nine point two. That's the last one. Jefferson,'' Zach called hopping that Jefferson would catch up, ''you've got to move faster. John, move!''
''Mister Jefferson!'' Rose shouted as the gate shut leaving Jefferson trapped on the other side.
''Keep going!'' Toby pushed Rose forward which meant that Violet and Jones had to keep moving as well, there was no time to mourn the loss of Jefferson.
''With honours. 43 K two point one,'' Violets heart sank when she caught what Zach was saying over the Comm, Jefferson was dead.
''Can't you give him a, you know when we go back home?'' Jones whispered form behind Violet.
''It will have to be honorary, but I'll see what I can do and that's if we go home,'' Violet whispered back as they then found themselves at another junction.
''Zach, we're at the final junction, nine point two. And er, if my respects could be on record. He saved our lives,'' Danny stated, no longer agitated of scared, but calm.
''Noted,'' Zach replied., then after a period of silence he said, ''Opening nine point two.''
Nobody had been expected the Ood to be waiting on the other side of the gate.
''Lower nine point two! Hurry, Zach!'' Rose screamed as the Ood tried desperately to get to them.
''Back! Back! Back!'' Danny ordered.
''We can't go back! The gang point's sealed off. We're stuck,'' Toby informed them.
Violet and Jones look from each other, to the Ood who were trying to force the door back up.
''We can't go under it,'' Jones started as he pull out his gun from inside his leather jacket, he never went anywhere without it.
''And we can't go through it,'' Violet added taking her own gun from out of her shoe.
''We'll have to go over it,'' They finished in unison as they pointed their guns upwards blowing the metal panel off in the process.
Grinning at each other they quickly scrambled up and out, they followed swiftly by Danny and Rose. However, it seemed Toby was being a little slow.
''Come on! Toby, come on!'' Rose called realising he wasn't with them, ''Toby, get out of there!'' Rose shouted again and Toby's head popped up from the tunnel.
''Help me! Oh, my God. Help me!'' He cried out. Sighing Jones moved over to help him out.
''Come on,'' Rose spoke as she helped Danny up off the floor; he had sat down to catch his breath. Rose would have allowed him a bit longer, but a few Ood's where already approaching them form down the corridor.
''It's this way,'' Danny pointed, before he then flinched when he heard the whir of a gun and thuds as the Ood that had been catching up to them, lay dead on the floor, Jones holding a strange gun that Danny had never seen before.
After recovering from the shock the group ran down the hallway finally entering Ood Habitation.
''Get it in!'' Rose called to Jones who had been a little way behind them.
''Rose I'd very much appreciate if you didn't tell the Doctor what I just did, I'm not exactly proud of what I just did,'' Jones confessed as he helped her shut the door and lock it.
''Are you kidding you just saved our lives,'' Danny piped up as he moved over to one of the computers in the room.
''Danny just get that thing transmitted please,'' Violet piped up, as she put her squareness gun back into her shoe.
''I'm trying, I'm trying! I'm getting at it,'' Danny called back taking the chip out of his pocket and as he did so there was a loud crash as the Ood managed to get through the door and into the room.
''Danny, get that thing transmitting! Jones could you,'' Rose said truing towards the man still stood next to her.
''I can't, it needs to charge,'' Rose just gave him the 'are you kidding' me look before turning to look over at Violet.
''I have a squareness gun, it will blast a square shape hole in the Ood and to witness that you'll need a pretty strong stomach,'' At Violets reply Rose's face scrunched up in disgust, that was something she didn't want to see.
Suddenly the Ood one by one begin to fall to the ground and the group let out a little cheer.
''You did it! We did it!'' Rose exclaimed as Violet gave her a hug to which Jones they joined.
''Yes!'' Danny shouted in triumph.
''Zach, we did it. The Ood are down. Now we've got to get the Doctor,'' Rose spoke into the Comm a relived smile on her face.
''I'm on my way,'' Zach replied.
''Doctor, are you there? Doctor, Ida, can you hear me?'' Rose asked seeing if they could hear her, but she got no reply.
''The comms are still down. I can patch them through the central desk and boost the signal. Just give me a minute,'' Zach explained as he entered the room.
''Doctor, are you there? Doctor, Ida, can you hear me?'' Rose asked again as Violet and Jones what with baited breath for a response. ''Are you there, Doctor?''
''He's gone,'' Ida's voice, slightly shaky came across the Comm, her voice seemed to be the only go news.
''What do you mean, he's gone?'' Rose and Violet asked, their voices merging into one.
''He fell into the pit. And I don't know how deep it is. Miles and miles and miles,'' Ida explained.
''He's an idiot,'' Violet huffed as Jones wrapped an arm around her.
''But what do you mean, he fell?'' Rose asked; worry bubbling up in her throat.
''I couldn't stop him. He said your name,'' She replied and Rose was about to speak, however Zach to the comm off of her, before she could.
''I'm sorry. Ida? There's no way of reaching you. No cable, No back up. You're ten miles down,'' Zach confessed and Violet could tell he didn't want to leave Ida down there, but he had no choice.
''We can't get there,'' He finished, his head hanging low.
''You should see this place, Zach. It's beautiful. Well, I wanted to discover things, and here I am,'' Ida replied and even thought Violet couldn't see her face, she knew that Ida had a smile on it.
''We've got to abandon the base. I'm declaring this mission unsafe. All we can do is make sure no one ever comes here again,'' Zach explained.
''Your going to blow this place up aren't you,'' Jones said, but Zach and Ida both ignored him.
''But we'll never find out what it was.'' Ida continued, disappointment laced in her voice.
''Well, maybe that's best,'' Zach replied.
'' Yeah,'' Ida sighed.
''Officer Scott.''
''It's all right. Just go. Good luck,'' Ida replied, telling Zach it was ok to leave her and with that she turned off her Comm.
''And you. Danny, Toby, close down the feed links. Get the retrotropes online, then get to the rocket and strap yourselves in. We're leaving,'' Zach ordered.
''I'm not going,'' Rose said, defying Zach.
''Rode we can't stay here,'' Violet said trying to persuade her.
''Rose, there's space for you. All of you,'' Zach added.
''No, I'm going to wait for the Doctor. Just like he waited for me. Violet, Jones you can't just give up,'' Rose demanded.
''We aren't, look Rose he may have survived and the Tardis is down there and he's my dad. Yes he's stupid, but he's also brilliant and he'll find a way out,'' Violet said trying to reassure Rose that everything would be fine.
''I'm sorry, but he's dead,'' Zach commented after Violets speech.
''You sure know how not to kill the mood don't you,'' Jones snapped with a glare in the general direction of Zach.
''You don't know him. 'Cause he's not. I'm telling you, he's not. And even if he was, how could I leave him all on his own, all the way down there? No, I'm going to stay,'' Rose stated putting her foot down once and for all.
''Then I apologise for this. Danny, Toby? Make her secure.''
''Hey you didn't have to do that you know,'' Violet huffed as Zach sedated Rose causing her to fall limp in Danny's and Toby's hold.
''I have lost too many people, I was not going to continued to argue with her, now come on,'' Zach said before leading the way out of the room.
''Yes sir,'' Violet said sarcastically as she and Jones followed behind everyone else.
As they make their way along the corridor leading to the rocket, Violet noticed that a few of the Ood's begun to twitch, well of cause apart from the ones that Jones had managed to shoot.
''Did that one just move?'' Toby pointed out as he struggled to keep a hold of Rose.
''It's the telepathic field. It's reasserting itself,'' Danny added shocked that it was working very quickly.
''Move it. Get to the rocket. Move!'' Zach said and the group immediately started to run. However, Toby and Danny had Rose to carry which slowed them down.
''Give her to me, I'll carry her,'' Jones offered, to which the men agreed and so Jones lifter Rose up into his arms and followed Zach at a quicker pace than before.
------------------------------------------
Once they had entered the rocket Jones carefully sat Rose down into one of the seats and strapped her in. Toby sat to the left of her and Danny went the other side. That meant that Jones and Violet took the two seats that were positioned behind the three.
''Dislocating B clamp. C Clamp. Raising blu-nitro to maximum. Toby, how's the Negapact feed line?'' Zach asked, wanting an answer from either Danny or Toby.
''Clear. Ready to go, sir. For God's sakes, get us out of here!'' Toby replied.
''Captain, I think we're going to have a problem passenger,'' Danny stated as Rose begun to slowly wake up.
''Keep an eye on her,'' Zach called back.
''Wait. We're not,'' Rose spoke, her voice a little groggy after being unconscious for a while.
''It's all right, Rose. You're safe,'' Danny said.
''Rose you'll be ok, your with us,'' Violet reassured Rose.
''I'm not going anywhere! Get me out of this thing! Get me out!'' Rose complained, trying to undo the many straps that held her in her seat.
''And lift off! Whoo!'' Zach shouts as the rocket blasts off.
However, Rose did not share the celebration as she picked up a gun that had been laying on the crate closet to her and decides to point it at Zach.
''Take me back to the planet. Take me back!'' Rose demanded.
''Rose calm down,'' Jones piped up, but she didn't listen to him.
''Or what?'' Zach asked referring to what Rose had said.
''Or I'll shoot,'' She threatened.
''Would you, though? Would you really? Is that what your Doctor would want?'' Zach said and with a frustrated sign Rose slumps back in her chair.
''Sorry, but it's too late anyway. Take a look outside. We can't turn back. This is what the Doctor would have wanted. Isn't that right?'' Zach continued once he'd noticed Rose had settled down.
Silence engulfed the rocket for a moment, giving everyone a chance to breathe a sign of relief, well apart from Toby it seemed as he was happily smiling away. Violet grow instantly worried, she had totally forgotten that the conscious had been sleeping inside of him.
''What's the joke?'' Danny asked noticed Toby's sudden happiness.
''Just, we made it. We escaped. We actually did it,'' Toby replied laughter emitting from his mouth.
''Not all of us,'' Rose mumbled.
''We're not out of it yet. We're still the first people in history to fly away from a black hole. Toby, read me the stats,'' Zach ordered from his pilot seat.
''Gravity funnel holding, sir. Always holding,'' Toby replied a wide grin still on his face, ''Stats at fifty three. Funnel stable at sixty six point five. Hull pressure constant. Smooth as we can, sir, all the way back home. Coordinates set for planet Earth.''
''It doesn't make sense. We escaped, but there's a thousand ways it could've killed us. It could've ripped out the air or, I don't know, burnt us, or anything. But it let us go. Why? Unless it wanted us to escape?'' Rose said, thoughts and idea's running around her brain all at once.
''Rose you might be right about that,'' Violet kept a close eye on Toby as she agreed with Rose.
''Hey, Rose, Violet, do us a favour. Shut up. Almost there. We'll be beyond the reach of the black hole in forty, thirty nine,'' Toby snapped.
''That's not Toby is it,'' Jones had moved closer to Violet in order to whisper in her ear.
''I'm afraid not,'' Violet replied sighing.
''How do we get it out of him?'' Jones asked and Violet just shrugged, she had no idea.
Suddenly the rocket begun to shake and the two friends cast worried looks at each other because they knew that it shouldn't be happening.
''What happened? What was that?'' Danny asked his calm persona leaving him.
''What's he doing? What is he doing?'' Toby's voice almost sounded angry and Violet was almost ready to see the symbols appear all over his body again.
''We've lost the funnel. Gravity collapse!'' Zach shouted in disbelief.
''What does that mean?'' Rose asked fearing the answer.
''We can't escape. We're headed straight for the black hole!'' Zach exclaimed.
''It's the planet. The planets moving. It's falling,'' Rose shouted as she looked out of the window to see the planet being sucked towards the black hole.
''Oh look, good old symbol face is back,'' Jones commented as Toby's face once again became covered in the strange black symbols.
''I am the rage,'' he shouted in the same voice he had before.
''It's Toby. Zach, do something,'' Rose shouted.
''It isn't his fault,'' Violet defended the man, but she had a feeling there wasn't much left of Toby.
''And the bile and the ferocity.''
''Just do something!'' Rose screamed as Toby continued to speak.
'' I am the Prince and the Fall and the enemy. I am the sin and the fear and the darkness.''
''It's him! It's him! It's him!'' Danny shouted franticly.
''It's not Toby it's something inside'' Violet snapped wanting everyone to calm down, of course it didn't work.
''Stay where you are. The ship's not stable!'' Zach ordered as he notice Toby trying to unlock himself from the seat.
''Well I wasn't expecting that,'' Jones commented as Toby opened his mouth releasing a whirl of fire.
''What is he?? What the hell is he?'' Zach shouted, scared and confused.
''He'd the devil,'' Violet simply said.
''I shall never die. The thought of me is forever. In the bleeding hearts of men, in their vanity and obsession and lust, nothing shall ever destroy me. Nothing!'' Toby screamed out.
''Go to hell,'' Rose utters as she shota the front window with the gun she had picked earlier, as well as that she moves to nfasten Toby's seat belt and just before he gets sucked away into space he whispers behind him to Violet.
''He isn't real,'' Before Violet could say anything, he was gone, falling towards the black hole.
''Emergency shield!'' Zach shouted and a metal shutter lowers down and seals the hole left behind by the window. However, there still was a problem, the rocket was falling.
''We've still lost the gravity funnel. We can't escape the black hole,'' Zach explained sighing.
''Yes we can,'' Violet whispered so only Jones could hear her. She was still confused at what the devil or whatever it was had said to her 'He wasn't real,' what did that mean and who was it on about. She just prayed it wasn't the Doctor.
''But we stopped him. That's what the Doctor would've done,'' Rose said.
''Some victory. We're going in,'' Zach sighed as he waited for the black hole to suck them in.
'''The planet's lost orbit. It's falling!'' Danny exclaimed as he looked out the window to see the bitter pill fall towards the black hole. ''The planet's gone. I'm sorry,'' He hadn't looking at Rose, Violet and Jones in turn.
''Oh it's ok,'' Violet replied trying not to make a smile appear on her face, because she knew what happened next.
''Accelerate. I did my best. But hey! The first human beings to fall inside a black hole. How about that? History,'' Zach commented trying to make it seem better than it was.
Then out of now where the rocket stops shaking, it actually just stops moving altogether. Now Violet could show the smile on her face.
''What happened?'' Rose asked, confusion laced in her voice.
''We're turning. We're turning around. We're turning away!'' Zach was surprised, he had no idea what was happening.
''Sorry about the hijack, Captain. This is the good ship Tardis,'' The Doctors voice comes over the Comm.
''You knew didn't you?'' Jones asked looking at Violet a disapproving look on his face.
''What can I say this was a fixed point, I knew he'd come back because he hadn't died,'' Violet said a smile on her face, she was just glad to hear her father's voice again.
''Now, first things first, have you got a Rose Tyler, Violet and let's not forget Commander Michael Jones, on board?''
''We're here! It's me! Oh, my God. Where are you?'' Rose asked her own smile on her face.
''I'm just towing you home. Gravity schmavity. My people practically invented black holes,'' the Doctor explained.
''I think you mean our people,'' Violet added.
''Well, in fact, they did. In a couple of minutes, we'll be nice and safe. Oh, and Captain?'' he continued totally ignoring Violets comment, ''Can we do a swap? Say, if you give me Rose Tyler, my daughter and her friend, I'll give you Ida Scott? How about that?'' He finished.
''She's alive!'' Zach shouted astonished.
''Yes. Thank God,'' Danny cheered.
''Yeah! Bit of oxygen starvation, but she should be all right. I couldn't save the Ood. I only had time for one trip. They went down with the planet. Ah! Entering clear space. End of the line. Mission Closed.'' With the rocket safely away from the black hole the Doctor stops towing and allows Zach to take over again.
----------------------------------
''You are in big trouble mister,'' Violet pointed her finger towards her father as he released Rose from a hug. However, instead of shouting at him she ran up and he pulled her into a hug, ''don't you ever do that again,'' She mumbled her head resting on top of her shoulder.
''I'll try I promise,'' He replied letting her go.
''Thanks, for coming back for us that is,'' Jones finally spoke after watching the Doctor hug the two girls.
''Yeah well what would you lot do without me,'' The Doctor replied walking over to Jones and giving him a hug too. Jones was taken aback at first, but he soon realised he didn't care and returned the hug.
''Zach? We'll be off, now. Have a good trip home,'' After the Doctor had hugged everyone he moved back to the Tardis consol so he could talk to Zach, Ida and Danny, ''and the next time you get curious about something. Oh, what's the point. You'll just go blundering in. The human race.''
''But Doctor, what did you find down there? That creature, what was it?'' Ida asked and it became deadly silent for a few seconds before he answered her question.
''I don't know. Never did decipher that writing. But that's good, Day I know everything? Might as well stop,''
''What do you think it was, really?'' Rose whispered hopping he would tell her.
''I think we beat it. That's good enough for me,'' He replied shrugging.
''It said I was going to die in battle,'' Rose added.
''It told me someone wasn't real,'' Violet commented and the Doctor looked at her confused.
''Then it lied. Right, onwards, upwards. Ida? See you again, maybe,'' The Doctor simply said, as well as saying goodbye to those on the rocket.
''I hope so,'' Ida replied.
''And thanks, boys!'' Rose said.
''Yeah thanks,'' Violet also thanked Zach and Danny.
''Cheers,'' Jones then added.
''Hang on though, Doctor. You never really said. You four, who are you?'' Ida asked.
''Oh, the stuff of legend,'' The Doctor replied and with that said he pulled a leaver on the Tardis control and all four of them flew into the time vortex.
-------------------------------------------------
''He isn't real, who Jones, who isn't real. I just don't understand,'' Jones was sat on Violets bed as she lay down at the head of it.
''Well I can tell you it's not me and it's not the Doctor either,'' Jones replied reassuring her as he opened her bedside draw pulling out the ring box, which contained her engagement ring.
''Then who, could it be someone I haven't met yet. Wait what about The Face of Boe. No wait he'd defiantly real,'' Violet groaned, she knew that what Toby had said to her wasn't a lie, she just knew it.
''I don't know, but I know one thing Vi, you need to get married,'' Jones held the box up to her, with the ring sat inside it.
''I will just not now obviously because he isn't here,'' Violet huffed as she maneuvered herself to sit next to her friend.
''When then?'' He asked placing the box in her hand.
''Soon, I'll get the Doctor to take us home and then tell him to come back that night or the next day,'' She explained her plan to him and he nodded.
''Then you'd have to tell he your married, when are you going to do that?'' He asked.
''When the time is right,'' She replied snapping the box shut and hiding the ring away once again.
Next will be fear her because it's really hard to write Jones and Violet into love and monsters will be difficult
