The Impossible Planet

Violet sighed; she had been sat on her bed for the past ten minutes just staring at the ring that sat proudly in the velvet ring box. She was in two minds, she either told the Doctor or she let him find out. She had yet to make a decision, asking Jones wasn't going to help because he wanted her to tell the Doctor.

The Tardis jolting brought Violet out of her thoughts. They had landed somewhere, but judging by the noise the Tardis was making, it didn't want to be wherever they were. Standing up from the bed she snapped the box shut, hit it in the draw on her bedside table and made her way to the control room.

''What just happened?'' She heard Jones ask when she entered the room.

''I don't know what's wrong though. She's sort of queasy. Indigestion, like she didn't want to land,'' The Doctor shouted back as Violet realised he and Rose where already outside.

''Oh, if you think there's going to be trouble, we could always get back inside and go somewhere else,'' She heard Rose say and it was immediately followed by laughter.

''I think we've landed inside a cupboard, come Jones, Violet,'' Jones shrugged and Violet followed him out. Upon stepping out Violet noticed the Doctor wasn't wrong, they were indeed in a closet.

''Here we go,'' The Doctor called walking over to a door and he turned the wheel allowing the four to walk through.

''Open door 15,'' Just by hearing the robotic voice, Violet could tell the place they had landed was highly unlikely to be abandoned.

''Some sort of base. Moon base, sea base, space base. They build these things out of kits,'' Violet rolled her eyes as she listened to her father ramble.

''Close door 15,'' Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Jones jump a little as the metal door shut behind them.

''Scared Jones,'' Violet teased nudging his shoulder.

''No course not what gave you that idea,'' Violet giggled at his response and opened her mouth to reply but he cut her off, ''don't answer that.'' The comment caused her to laugh more as they carried on exploring.

''Glad we're indoors, sounds like a storm out there,'' Rose pointed out as all of them heard a rumbling noise coming from above and outside.

''Open door 16,'' Came to voice again as they made their way into another corridor

''Human design. You've got a thing about kits. This place was put together like a flat pack wardrobe, only bigger. And easier,'' The Doctor explained.

''Is it me or does he sound like an out of space tour guide,'' Jones whispered to the two women.

''Your not wrong,'' Violet replied and Rose just laughed at the two.

''Oh let me guess. Open door 17,'' Jones mimicked the computer as the four entered a small room full of tables and chairs.

''Oh, it's a sanctuary base,'' The Doctor exclaimed sounding excited.

''Close door 17,''

''Deep Space exploration. We've gone way out. And listen to that, underneath. Someone's drilling,'' The Doctor said as he strained his ears to listen.

''Drilling for what though?'' Jones asked and all her got in response was a shrug from the Doctor.

''Welcome to hell,'' Rose's voice made the other three almost freeze.

''Oh, it's not that bad,'' Doctor commented confused by the blonde's words.

''No, over there,'' The three turned to look at what Rose was pointing at.

Violets eyes widened as she saw the words Welcome to hell, written on the wall in big block capital letters. Although what was written underneath caught her attention a lot more, they were symbols, but more importantly the Tardis hadn't translated them.

''Hold on, what does that say? That's weird, it won't translate,'' The Doctor was in the same mind as Violet.

'' But I thought the Tardis translated everything, writing as well. We should see English,'' Rose said just as confused as everyone else in the room.

''Exactly. If that's not working, then it means this writing is old. Very old. Impossibly old, Jones you got clever books, do you know what this says?'' The Doctor asked.

''No, but I've seen it before, not sure where though,'' Jones replied walking over to where the Doctor was knelt examining the writing.

''We should find out who's in charge,'' The Doctor said standing up and moving towards the next door.

''We've gone beyond the reach of the Tardis' knowledge. Not a good move. And if someone's lucky enough,'' The Doctor stopped mid sentence as door 18 swung open it revealed three aliens, each one had tentacles sprouting out of where a nose and mouth would usually be found.

Something that caught the Time Lady's eye was the white globes that they held in their hands, the wire that held it seemed to travel upwards into the tentacles. Violet hadn't seen anything like them before and judging by her father's expression he hadn't either.

''Oh! Right. Hello. Sorry. I was just saying, er, nice base,'' The Doctor stuttered out, not sure what he was supposed to say.

''We must feed,'' They replied in unison.

''You've got to what?'' The Doctor asked thinking he'd heard them wrong.

''We must feed,'' The creature said again.

''Yeah. I think they mean us,'' Rose pointed out as the aliens begun to enter the room.

''I think we should leave,'' Jones added earning nods from the group as they all backed away and towards the door they had come from.

''We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed,'' They carried on repeating as they got closer to them.

Then to make matters worse Violet hears the computer open door 17, which was the door they wanted to escape to.

''Great there's more of them,'' Jones groaned as the four became backed up against a wall. Rose picked up a chair in defence and as a last resort Violet and Jones took out their guns.

''We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed. We must feed,''

''Will these work?'' Jones asked turning towards Violet.

''I don't know, but we are only using them if they attack us,'' Jones nodded at her response and kept his gun pointed at the aliens in front of them.

''We must feed,'' This time only one of them said it. Violets raised an eyebrow as she saw it begin to tap the globe in its hand.

''You, if you are hungry,''' The group blinked, unable to comprehend what just happened.

''Sorry?'' The Doctor asked as Jones and Violet lowered their weapons.

''We apologise. Electromagnetics have interfered with speech systems. Would you like some refreshment?'' The creature asked, as Rose placed the chair back down on the floor.

''Er,'' Needless the say the Doctor was speechless and it seemed so was the rest of the group. Not one of them knew what to say.

''Open door 18,'' Violet whipped around to see what to her looked like humans entire.

''What the hell? How did?'' The man stood in front of them, he had a gun, the creatures had moved out the way to make room for the people who had entered.

''Captain, you're not going to believe this. We've got people. Out of nowhere. I mean, real people. I mean four living people, just standing here right in front of me,'' The same man spoke this time

into some sort of communication device that was around his wrist.

''Don't be stupid, that's impossible,'' The reply was muffled by the comm, but violet heard it.

''I suggest telling them that,'' The man said looking at each of the people in front of him in turn.

''But you're a sort of space base. You must have visitors now and then. It can't be that impossible,'' Rose piped up.

''You're telling me you don't know where you are?'' The man asked.

''No idea. More fun that way,'' The Doctor replied with a grin.

''Even if it means we nearly get killed,'' Jones muttered.

''That's what makes it fun,'' Violet said to him, with her own smile.

''Stand by, everyone. Buckle down. We have incoming. And it's a big one. Quake point five on its way,'' A womens voice emitted from a speaker in the room.

''Through here, now. Quickly, come on! Move!'' The man orders as he opens door 18, gesturing fo everyone to go through.

As they all run down the corridor, explosions and loud bangs emit from above them, this caused Violet to grow weary; something didn't feel right.

''Move it! Come on! Keep moving. Come on! Quickly! Move it!'' The man shouted ordering them to go faster.

Finally after running as fast as they could, they all found themselves in some sort of control room. As Violet descended the steps she looked around to see humans, quite a few of them rushing around or sat a computers working.

'Oh, my God. You meant it,'' A dark skinned man exclaimed from his seated position in the middle of the room, and at what Violet thought was the main control computer.

''People! Look at that, real people!'' A women with blonde waving hair said, her voice was laced with amazement.

''That's us. Hooray!'' The Doctor said giving a small cheer.

''Yeah, definitely real. My name's Rose. Rose Tyler, this is Violet, Jones and that's the Doctor,'' Rose introduced everyone and they all gave small waves as she said their names.

''Come on the oxygen must be offline. We're hallucinating. They can't be. No, they're real,'' A young man pipes up.

''Come on, we're in the middle of an alert! Danny, strap up. The quake's coming in! Impact in thirty seconds! Sorry you two, whoever you are. Just hold on, tight,'' The man behind the main computer said, Violet made a note that he was probably the one in charge of the base.

''Hold on to what?'' Rose asked looking around for something to hold onto.

''Anything. I don't care. Just hold on. Ood, are we fixed?''

''So their called the Ood,'' Violet mumbled to herself, she was adamant she'd never heard of them before.

''Your kindness in this emergency is much appreciated,'' The Ood replied bowing its head in thanks.

''What's this planet called, anyway?'' The Doctor asked as he found something to hold in to.

''Now, don't be stupid. It hasn't got a name. How could it have a name? You really don't know, do you?'' Another woman spoke, she had brown hair.

''And impact!'' When the man, who Violet was sure was in charge, uttered the words the whole room begun to shake. However luckily it didn't last long.

''Oh, well, that wasn't so bad,'' Doctor spoke standing up straight from where he had been leaning against one of the many yellow poles for support.

Then the room begun to shake and again and Violet swore she heard Jones scream, like a little girl. Violet yelped herself when the console closet to her suddenly burst into flames. The just as fast as it had begun it stopped. Violet sighed in relief as she slid down the wall she was closest to and took deep breaths. The sensation had scared her there was no denying it.

---------------------------------------

Violet was still trying to control her breathing after the sudden quake that had occurred. Jones noticed, as everyone was trying to fix the control room, Violet was sat with her back against the wall.

''Hey,'' He extended his hand out for her to take, it took a few minutes, but she finally allowed him to pull her up.

''Are you ok?'' He asked genuine worry in his voice.

''Yeah, at least I didn't scream like a little girl,'' She joked causing him to bite his cheek and look away. He was about to reply but, the man who seemed to be in control cut him off, he was checking to see if everyone was ok.

''We're fine, thanks, fine. Yeah, don't worry about us,'' The Doctor said sarcastically as the man hadn't asked if any of them were ok.

''Doctor, we're just random people, I think knowing his team is ok is his top priority at the moment,'' Violet's words caused the Doctor to clench his jaw. Did his daughter actually just tell him off?

''The surface caved in,'' The main controller said, as Violet noticed him pull up the schematic of the base up on his computer.

''I deflected it onto storage five through eight. We've lost them completely. Toby, go and check the rocket link,'' The man continued aiming his orders at a man in a blue long sleeved shirt.

''That's not my department,'' The man, Toby replied with a huff.

''Just do as I say, yeah?'' Toby then nods and leaves to check the rocket link.

''Oxygen holding. Internal gravity fifty six point six. We should be okay,'' The woman with brown hair said as the sound of what Violet thought was a storm rumbled above them.

''Never mind the earthquake, that's, that's one hell of a storm. What is that, a hurricane?'' Rose asked.

''You'd need an atmosphere for a hurricane. There's no air out there. It's a complete vacuum,'' The other woman explained, the one with the blonde hair.

''Then what's shaking the roof?'' Rose asked.

''Actually yeah, because if there's not atmosphere then what could possibly be shaking the roof?'' Violet questioned, wanting and not wanting to know the answer at the same time.

''You're not joking. You really don't know. Well introductions. F Y I, as they said in the olden days. I'm Ida Scott, science officer. Zachary Cross Flane, acting Captain, sir. You've met Mister Jefferson, he's Head of Security. Danny Bartock, Ethics committee,'' Ida introduced the people around them.

''Not as boring as it sounds,'' Danny pipes up, making Jones grin.

''And that man who just left, that was Toby Zed, Archaeology, and this is Scooti Manista, Trainee maintenance. And this? This is home,'' Ida finished moving to pull down a red leaver that was attached to the wall.

''Brace yourselves. The sight of it sends some people mad,'' Zach informed them as the shutters above the group folded away to reveal, something that to Violet seemed impossible.

''Is that,'' Jones stutters and all the confirmation he got was the nod of his friends head, to know he was probably right.

''That's a black hole,'' Rose had said he exact words that Jones had been thinking.

''But that's impossible,'' The Doctor breathed out, craning his neck to look up at it.

''I did warn you,'' Zach commented.

''We're standing under a black hole,'' The Doctor spoke again, still not believing how the situation they were in.

''In orbit,'' Ida pointed out.

''What!'' Violet exclaimed her eyes widening; now these people had to be joking with them.

''But we can't be,'' The Doctor breathed out.

''You can see for yourself. We're in orbit,'' She said making the Doctor look up again.

''But we can't be,'' The Doctor still couldn't wrap his head around the idea of them being in orbit, underneath a black hole.

''You all should have been sucked into the hole the moment you landed,'' Jones added, thinking it was just one thing, impossible.

''This lump of rock is suspended in perpetual geostationary orbit around that black hole without falling in. Discuss,'' Ida said.

''And that's bad, yeah?'' Rose asked, not bothering who out of Jones, Violet or the Doctor answered her.

''Bad doesn't cover it. A black hole's a dead star. It collapses in on itself, in and in and in until the matter's so dense and tight it starts to pull everything else in too. Nothing in the universe can escape it. Light, gravity, time. Everything just gets pulled inside and crushed,'' the Doctor explained.

''Now you know why this should all be impossible,'' Violet added gesturing around the base.

''So, they can't be in orbit. We should be pulled right in,'' Rose said finally realising why the others couldn't understand how they were there.

''We should be dead,'' The Doctor said bluntly.

''Oh joy,'' Jones scoffed, what was it every time they were with the Doctor, the idea of death wasn't far.

''And yet here we are, beyond the laws of physics. Welcome on board,'' Ida ignored Jones's comment and carried on speaking.

''But if there's no atmosphere out there, what's that?'' Rose pointed out as the same rumble, she had thought was a storm sounded above them again.

''Stars breaking up. Gas clouds. We have whole solar systems being ripped apart above our heads, before falling into that thing,'' Ida explained.

''So, a bit worse than a storm, then,'' Rose said

''Just a bit,'' Ida agreed.

''Just a bit, yeah,'' Rose muttered, as the room begun to shake again.

-----------------------------------------

''Close door 1,'' the sound of the computer signalling the door was open caused Jones to jump again.

''Your a bit jumpy today aren't you?'' Violet said through giggles.

''Something doesn't seem right about this place,'' Jones confessed as his gaze followed an Ood, who had just entered the room.

''Yeah, I think it's because all this shouldn't be here, we shouldn't have been able to land because there shouldn't be anything here,'' Violet said before then moving to join the Doctor and Rose who had gathered around the central controls.

''That's the black hole, officially designated K three seven Gen five,'' Zach explained as he made the central control system show a hologram of the black hole.

''In the scriptures of the Falltino, this planet is called Kroptor, the bitter pill. And the black hole is supposed to be a mighty demon. It was tricked into devouring the planet, only to spit it out, because it was poison,'' Ida added, as all four of the visitors looked at it, Violet studying it a lot closer. Something didn't add up.

''The bitter pill. I like that,'' Rose piped up.

''We are so far out. Lost in the drifts of the universe. How did you even get here?!'' The Doctor asked, thinking out loud.

''We flew in. You see, this planet's generating a gravity field. We don't know how. We've no idea. But it's kept in constant balance against the black hole. And the field extends out there as a funnel. A distinct gravity funnel, reaching out into clear space. That was our way in,'' Zach explained causing Violet to raise an eyebrow

''You flew down that thing? Like a rollercoaster,'' Rose was impressed as well as thinking the people around her were completely mad.

''By rights, the ship should have been torn apart. We lost the Captain, which is what put me in charge,'' Zach said as if he didn't even want to be the one in charge.

''You're doing a good job,'' Ida smiled to him in reassurance, but he just shook his head.

''But if that gravity funnel closes, there's no way out,'' Danny spoke for one of the first times, pointing out the floor in the gravity funnel.

''We had fun speculating about that,'' Scooti the blonde women added.

''Oh, yeah. That's the word. Fun,'' Danny responded, sarcasm evident in his tone.

''But that field would take phenomenal amounts of power. I mean not just big, but off the scale! Can I?'' The Doctor asked gesturing to the controls.

''Sure. Help yourself,'' Ida replied allowing him.

-------------------------------

''Doctor?'' Violet asked as she watched her father mess around with various buttons.

''Yeah,'' He replied not looking up from his task.

''Something about this place is wrong,'' Violet stated and before she could finish the Doctor opened his mouth to speak, but she didn't want to listen to what he was going to say, ''And it's not because of the black hole.''

''What then?'' He asked stopping what he was doing to look at her.

''The gravity funnel, A distinct gravity funnel, reaching out into clear space, that's what Zach had said. It made me think that someone had made it purposely to get people to come here and land. The funnel wasn't a piece of luck, for them, it was for whatever lives on this,'' She points the ground before saying ''The bitter pill.''

''Violet, what could possibly live under this planet?'' The Doctor asked.

''Their drilling Doctor remember you said so yourself, and Jones asked what they were drilling. So I'm asking you what could they possibly be drilling for?'' She didn't allow him to reply, she just walked off leaving him to mull over her words.

------------------------------

Violet had walked over to Jones and Rose who seemed to be having a conversation with Danny and Scooti about something. It was only when she got close enough she realised they were talking about the Ood.

''But the Ood offer themselves. If you don't give them orders, they just pine away and die,'' Judging by Danny's tone Violet could tell he was trying to defend his argument about what the Ood are for.

''Seriously, you like being ordered about?'' Rose turned the Ood that Violet was standing next to.

''It is all we crave,'' The Ood responded the globe in its hand lit up with a yellow light as it spoke.

''Totally different from the things I crave,'' Jones muttered, unfortunately for him Violet heard him and shoved him with her elbow.

''Why's that, then?'' Rose asked dismissing the ardable sound of Jones's small groan at being shoved by Violet.

''We have nothing else in life,'' Violet became sad at what the Ood had said, they must of had another purpose before, possibly a very long time ago by the looks of it.

''Yeah, well, I used to think like that, a long time ago,'' Rose said causing Violet to look at Rose confused. Rose was a human; humans have so many opportunities in their lives so what on earth was Rose on about. Violet had no idea.

''There we go. Do you see? To generate that gravity field, and the funnel, you'd need a power source with an inverted self extrapolating reflex of six to the power of six every six seconds,'' the Doctor called making everyone turn to pay attention to him.

''That's a lot of sixes,'' Rose stated.

''It's only three, wait hang three sixes, I swear that's supposed to mean something,'' Violet just shrugged at Jones's comment and the Doctor was rambling about something again. Nobody found Jones theory or statement of any use.

''It took us two years to work that out,'' Zach exclaimed looking at the Doctor with an impressed look.

''I'm very good,'' The Doctor smiled, more like beamed in response.

''But that's why we're here. This power source is ten miles below through solid rock. Point Zero. We're drilling down to try and find it,'' So that's why they are drilling, Violet thought as she listened to what Ida had said.

''It's giving off readings of over ninety stats on the Blazon scale,'' Zach informed them as he looked at the hologram.

''It could revolutionise modern science,'' Ida became excited at the prospect.

''We could use it to fuel the Empire,'' Jefferson added.

''Or start a war,'' The Doctor countered killing the air of excitement that had once hung in the air.

''It's buried beneath us, in the darkness, waiting,'' Violet was taken aback at the almost morbid turn that Toby had directed the conversation in.

''What's your job, chief dramatist?''Rose asked.

''More like chief of dark thoughts,'' Jones added.

''Well, whatever it is down there is not a natural phenomena. And this, er, planet once supported life eons ago, before the human race had even learned to walk,'' Toby explained, brushing as best as he could Rose's and Jones's comments.

''I saw that lettering written on the wall. Did you do that?'' The Doctor asked Toby.

''I copied it from fragments we found unearthed by the drilling, but I can't translate it,'' toby sighed as if he had been defeated.

''No, neither can I. And that's saying something. Not even Jones could and he's read some clever books,'' The Doctors words made Toby look at him in confusion, rather than feel better.

''Your never going to stop saying that are you?'' Jones grumbled and all the Doctor did was wink at him in return.

''I have a feeling that was a no,'' Violet stated, with as smile on her face.

''Yeah I think a got that,'' Jones replied, turning back to listen to the conversation again.

''There was some form of civilisation. They buried something. Now it's reaching out, calling us in,'' Toby said.

''And you came,'' The Doctor said becoming impressed.

''Well, how could we not?'' Ida replied.

''So, when it comes right down to it, why did you come here? Why did you do that? Why? I'll tell you why. Because it was there. Brilliant. Excuse me, er, Zach, wasn't it?'' The Doctor asked.

''That's me,'' Zach looked confused at the Doctor from his standing position.

''Just stand there, because I'm going to hug you. Is that all right?''

''I suppose so,'' Zach shrugged unsure what was actually really happening.

''Here we go. Come on, then,'' The Doctor then goes and pulls Zach into a tight hug.

''Oh, human beings. You are amazing! Ha! Thank you,'' Violet just watched with a smile as the Doctor pulled away from Zach.

''Not at all.''

''But apart from that, you're completely mad. You should pack your bags, get back in that ship and fly for your lives, because Violet you were right that funnel wasn't put there by accident, someone or something wanted people to land here,'' Violet smiled finally the Doctor had understood what she had said to him earlier.

''You can talk. And how the hell did you get here?'' Ida didn't like the fact the Doctor was asking them to basically abandon all their research.

''Oh, I've got this er, this ship. It's hard to explain. It just sort of appears,'' The Doctor stumbled over his words having trouble describing the Tardis.

''It's complicated,'' Jones added, summing up what the Doctor had said.

''We can show you, we parked down the corridor from er. Oh, what's it called? Habitation area,'' Rose paused to think of the area number, but the Doctor answered for her.

''Three.''

''Violet doesn't that mean,'' Jones whispered to his friend and she nodded.

''Do you mean storage six?'' Zach asked.

''It was a bit of a cupboard, yeah. Storage six. But you said. You said. You said storage five to eight,'' Then realisation strikes the Doctor, Violet just stands and watches as he runs out with Rose right behind him. Jones moves to go too, but she stops him with a shake of her head.

''There's no point it's gone,'' Violet says to him and his face falls.

''You knew this was going to happen, didn't you?'' Jones asked bracing himself for the answer, he knew he wasn't going to like it.

''Yeah, it's a fixed point Jones this happens I couldn't have stopped it if I tried,'' Violet looks down at her shoes waiting for his answer, was he going to be angry at her for not telling him earlier. When he didn't say anything she looked up and him and muttered, ''Wish I'd never looked upon the Untempered Schism.''

Jones looked down at her and pulled her into a hug, he shouldn't be mad at her, it's her choice to tell him the things she knows. The things she had seen, he can't force her to tell him everything that happens to them in the future, mainly because she only remembers when it's about to happen and also because she doesn't know everything that will happen.

''The ground gave way. My Tardis must've fallen down right into the heart of the planet. But you've got robot drills heading the same way,'' Violet feels Jones's arms leave her body, as the Doctor rushes back into the room, after realising that the Tardis was gone.

''We can't divert the drilling,'' Zach replies sternly.

''But I need my ship. It's all I've got. Literally the only thing.''

''Glad to know we're all important to you,'' Jones stats, but the Doctor just ignored him.

''You know that's not what he meant right?'' Violet asked him.

''Yeah I know,'' Jones replied with a sigh as Zach kept telling the Doctor as to why there was no way of getting the Tardis back.

''Doctor, we've only got the resources to drill one central shaft down to the power source, and that's it. No diversions, no distractions, no exceptions. Your machine is lost. All I can do is offer you a lift if we ever get to leave this place, and that is the end of it,'' Zach firmly said.

''I'll er, put you on the duty roster. We need someone in the laundry,'' Ida spoke with sadness laced into her voice.
Violet watched as everyone in the room left until it was only The Doctor, Rose, Jones, her and an Ood left in the room.

''So we're stuck on an impossible planet, that has a gravity funnel that could break at any moment and send us plummeting into a black hole,'' Jones said summing up the situation.

''Way to cheer things up Jones,'' Violet replied sarcastically, ''But Yeah, your not wrong,'' Violet finished staring up at the black hole above them. There had to be a way out, for everyone, there just had to be.

--------------------------------------

''Open door 1. Close door 1,'' Violet and Jones entered the room they had first found the Ood in. Together they moved to sit on one of the tables next to the one the Doctor and Rose were sat on.

''I've trapped you here,'' The Doctor spoke up after a long period of just silence and staring.

''No, don't worry about me,'' Rose reassured him, but as the base begun to shake again, she quickly changed her mind, ''ok, we're on a planet that shouldn't exist, under a black hole and no way out. Yeah, I've changed my mind. Start worrying about me.''

As the Doctor and Rose continued to talk, Violet drew her eyes over to the symbols on the wall. The way they were written, the Doctor had been right it was old, impossibly old, but that didn't mean she couldn't try to work it out. However she wouldn't be able to work it out on her own and she knew just the person that would help her.

Before going she told Jones where she was going and he nodded, but also told her to be careful, to which she just stuck her tough out at him before leaving in search of the person that would help. Violet actually hopped they'd be able to help each other.

--------------------------------------

''Jones, where'd Violet go?'' The Doctor asked, as the room had become inhabited by the crew, he had noticed that his daughter was missing.

''She went to find Toby, wanted to see if she could help him with whatever that says,'' Jones replied waving his hand over at the wall with the writing on it.

With the Doctor not having replied to him Jones decided to Join Rose at the serving window because he hadn't realised his was getting hungry.

''Hey,'' He greeted as picked up his try and stood next to Rose with it.

''Hi, had any luck figuring out what that says yet?'' Rose asked, hopping that figuring it out might give them away of leaving the base and going home.

''No, but the Doctor and Violet are trying to work it out as well as Toby, so let's just have faith,'' Rose smiled at him, before pointing at some food for the Ood to load onto her plate.

''Would you like sauce with that?'' The Ood asked Rose at Jones gave his plate to another Ood.

''I'll have a go, yeah. I did that job once. I was a, a dinner lady. Not that I'm calling you a lady. Although, I don't know, you might be. Do you actually get paid, though? Do they give you money?'' Rose rattled off as the Ood scooped sauce onto the meal she had chosen.

''The Beast and his Armies shall rise from the Pit to make war against God,'' Both Jones's and Rose's eyes widened.

''I'm sorry?'' Rose asked blinking in confusion at the Ood.

''Apologies. I said, I hope you enjoy your meal,'' The Ood replied and it was only then that Jones had noticed that when the Ood had spoken moments before it had, had red eyes.

''Yeah,'' Whispered quietly.

''Sure didn't sound like that,'' Jones whispered to Rose as they walked away.

''I know and did you see its eyes?'' Rose asked as they sat down opposite each other on one of the tables.

''Yeah they were all red, it was weird.''
-------------------------------------

''Toby, are you ok?'' Violet had stuck her head around the door to his room to find him talking to himself.

''Who are you?''. She frowned he couldn't have forgotten her name that easily could he? She opened her mouth to reply, but another voice, a deeper darker voice spoke and it seemed to come from everywhere around her.

''I have so many names,'' It said.

''If if I could,'' Violet noticed that Toby seemed scared, she wanted to help him, but she had a feeling that whatever was talking to him, wasn't extremely nice.

''If you look at me, you will die,'' Violet flinched at the harshness in the voices tone. She became scared herself and as a precaution she stood flat up against the wall next to Toby's open door.

''But who are you?'' She heard Toby ask again.

''I'm behind you, Toby. I'm right behind you. Don't look. Don't look at me. One look and you will die. I'm reaching out, Toby. I'm so close. Don't turn around. Oh, I can touch you,'' Violets breath hitched in her throat, she decided to hold her breath because whatever was in his room heard her, she'd be in a lot of trouble.

Then the loud crash of something smashing made her jump out of her hiding place, with her squareness gun drawn. However all she saw was Toby unconscious on the floor and nothing out of the ordinary.

''Hello,'' She called. There was no reply, nobody was there. Confused and a little shaken up Violet left Toby's room, after making sure he was ok of course, and went to find Jones. She was only going to tell Jones because he would most likely believe what she had to say.

----------------------------------------

Violet entered the main communal room to see it near enough empty apart from Jones, Rose and the Doctor.

''Are you ok?'' Jones asked worried for his friend. Her face was pale and as see sat down her hands were shaking.

''Jones there was this voice, it sounded as if it was angry, it was talking to Toby before he collapsed,'' Violet explained, she half expected him to burst out laughing, but he didn't.

''It wasn't, an Ood that was speaking was it?''His question caught her off guard a little bit.

''No, I don't think so, why'd you ask?''

''Because earlier when I was with Rose getting some food, this Ood went all funny. It was weird, its eyes went red and it said ''The Beast and his Armies shall rise from the Pit to make war against God','' Violets mouth dropped open, not only because of what Jones had just told her, but because Rose's phone had begun to ring.

It confused her because she had distinctly heard Rose say they were out of range, so who was able to call her.

''Answer it,'' Violet almost demanded as Rose scrunched her forehead in confusion. Never the less Rose did as Violet said and answered the phone.

''He is awake,'' Violet gasped, it was the same voice the exact same on she had heard talk to Toby. She needed to find him, something was wrong and she shouldn't have left him in his room unconscious.

''Violet where are you going?'' The Doctor asked as he noticed her going in the opposite direction to the rest of them.

''Vi, come I think its best we say together,'' Jones said sending her a pointed look. Giving in she sighed and followed the group, she just hopped Toby was ok.

-------------------------------------

''Evening,'' The Doctor greeted, as they all entered Ood habitation to see Danny alone, working.

''Only us,'' Rose added with a smile.

''The mysterious couples. How are you, then? Settling in?'' Danny asked.

''Yeah. Sorry, straight to business, the Ood how do they communicate? I mean, with each other?'' Violet frowned at the odd question that her father just said. What had it got to do with the phone and the voice, because the voice didn't sound like an Ood, it had sounded like a man.

''Oh, just empathy. There's a low level telepathic field connecting them. Not that that does them much good. They're basically a herd race. Like cattle.''

''So are humans, but I wouldn't go around pointing it out,'' Violet mumbled under her breath, but Danny heard her and she saw his head drop.

''Doesn't feel great does it,'' Jones added, referring to the fact the Ood like humans probably don't like being insulted.

''This telepathic field. Can it pick up messages?'' The Doctor asked.

''Because me and Jones were having dinner, and one of the Ood said something, well, odd,'' Rose explained.

''Hmm. An odd Ood,'' Danny said smiling slightly.

''And then I got something else on my er, communicator thing,'' Rose waved her phone about not sure if she could say its name or not.

''Oh, be fair. We've got whole star systems burning up around us. There's all sorts of stray transmissions. Probably nothing. Look, if there was something wrong, it would show. We monitor the telepathic field. It's the only way to look after them. They're so stupid, they don't even tell us when they're ill,'' Danny explained.

''Yeah, but I heard a voice, like the one Rose heard and it didn't come from any sort of device,'' Violet interjected before the topic of conversation switched to talking about the Ood again.

''Monitor the field. That's this thing?'' She let out a huff, annoyed that the Doctor hadn't heard her. Instead he asked about the monitor that read basic 5 on it.

''Yeah. But like I said, it's low level telepathy. They only register basic five,'' Danny commented, turning his back on the screen.

''I don't want to be rude, but is he able to count or even read,'' Jones stated as the monitor changed from 5 to 9 extremely quickly.

''Jones your right. Not about his education, but the numbers because, well, that's not basic five. Ten, twenty. They've gone up to basic thirty,'' The Doctor rattled off as the number climbed higher and higher until it indeed stopped at basic 30.

Violets attention then landed on the Ood, they had begun to stand up and to her knowledge (which was very little concerning the Ood) something wasn't right.

''But they can't,'' Danny explained looking at the monitor then back to the Ood. He had no idea what was happening.

''Doctor, the Ood. What does basic thirty mean?'' Rose asked, thinking that Danny may not have known the answer. However turns out he did.

''Well, it means that they're shouting, screaming inside their heads.''

''Or something's shouting at them,'' The Doctor sated bluntly.

''Violet that voice you heard, did it sound like it was shouting?'' Jones asked, thinking that it may be the same voice, but this time it was talking to the Ood in their heads.

''Yeah it kind of did, but it also sounded angry,'' Violet confirmed.

''But where is it coming from? What is it saying? What did it say to you?'' Danny directed his question towards Rose because Jones and Violets conversation about the situation was mostly between them.

''Something about the beast in the pit, wasn't it Jones?'' Jones nodded in confirmation, not fully remembering the comment himself.

''What about your communicator? What did that say?'' Danny asked next.

''He is awake,'' She sated simply.

''And you will worship him,'' Violet saw Jones jump a how quickly the Ood had replied, all of them at once. Violet would have laughed at him being scared, but knowing they were in a serious situation she stayed quiet.

''What the hell?'' Danny almost shouted, completely confused at what was happening.

''He is awake,'' The Doctor repeated, seeing if they would respond again and they did.

''And you will worship him.''

''Worship who? Who's talking to you? Who is it?'' The Doctor was frustrated, confused and Violet had a tiny feeling he was scared, maybe not for himself, but those around him.

Violet tensed as the room begun to shake, a little more violently than it had before.

''Emergency hull breach. Emergency hull breach,'' Violet saw Jones gulp and she nearly did the same. She knew what a hull breach was and with the black hole right above them, it could make the consequences much worse.

''Which section?'' Danny asked, but he didn't get the reply he wanted.

''Everyone, evacuate eleven to thirteen. We've got a breach. The base is open. Repeat, the base is open!'' Zach's voice came over the radio, sounding rather calm concerning the situation they were all in.

The group of five all look at each other and with silent nods of agreement, they open door 19 and proceed to leave and fins somewhere safe.

''I can't contain the oxygen field. We're going to lose it,'' Zach said over the radio yet again.

Half way through running they come across Jefferson and a few other remaining crew members, who are all heading in the same direction.

''Come on! Keep moving!'' Jefferson barked at everyone, making sure they were all entering one of the parts that Zach hadn't told them to evacuate from.

''And you too, Toby!'' Jefferson shouts as Toby entered the room. Looking at Toby Violet noticed he was a little dazed and made a note to check if he had any sort of concussion after he had fallen earlier

''Breach sealed. Breach sealed,'' It seemed as if everyone in the area breathed a sigh of relief, they were all ok.

''Everyone all right?! What happened? What was it?'' The Doctor asked, wanting an answer for just about anyone in the room.

''Oxygen levels normal,'' The Computer stated.

''Hull breach. We were open to the elements. Another couple of minutes and we'd have been inspecting that black hole at close quarters,'' Jefferson explained.

''That is defiantly something we don't want to come face to face with,'' Jones added.

''That wasn't a quake. What caused it?'' The Doctor asked, confused for what Violet noticed was about the hundredth time that day.

''We've lost sections eleven to thirteen Everyone all right?'' Zach both asked and informed them.

''We've got everyone here except Scooti. Scooti, report. Scooti Manista? That's an order. Report,'' Violet held her breath ass Jefferson tried calling Scooti, but he got no answer.

''She's all right. I've picked up her biochip. She's in,'' Zach reassured them, but Violet felt as if she wasn't with them anymore.

''Habitation three. Better go and check if she's not responding. She might be unconscious,'' He added, after tracking her biochip so he could find her.

''Habitation three. Come on. I don't often say this, but I think we could all do with a drink. Come on,'' Jefferson said, leading everyone out and towards habitation 3.

''What happened?'' The Doctor asked becoming agitated as nobody was really answering his questions.

''I don't. I don't know. I was working and then I can't remember. All that noise. The room was falling apart. There was no air,'' Toby said, as he sat lent against one of the railings in the narrow corridor that only had Jones, Rose, The Doctor and Violet in now.

''Come on. Up you get. Come and have some protein one,'' Rose suggested streaching her hand out to help him up.

''Wait, Toby can you look at me for a minute please,'' Violet asked, stopping Rose from taking him away.

''Er yeah why?'' Violet didn't answer his question, until she saw that he was concussed, but there seemed to be something else, hidden in his eyes and it wasn't fear.

''Are you Ok, I mean do you feel Ok?'' She asked, it was just him, her and Jones in the corridor now, the Doctor and Rose had left to help look for Scooti.

''Yeah, just a little shaken,'' Toby confessed. Violet nodded and smiled, before saying he could leave.

''What's the matter, I know that face that's your thinking face,'' Jones smiled moving away from the railing he was leant on and moving closer to her.

'''There was something in him, I could see it, but it was weird like it wanted to be hidden, it was waiting for something,'' Violet explained whilst sighing, she realised Jones must have thought she was going mad. Either way she defiantly saw something in Toby's eyes.

Jones didn't reply, but instead moved to hug her. It was all she needed to know that he believed her and he'd help her figure it out, no matter what.

------------------------------------

A while later Violet and Jones entered the dining room (the room they had first incountered the Ood in) To see the rood open and everyone looking up out of it. Confused she did the same and gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. It was Scooti, she was drifting towards the black hole and it would only be a matter of minutes before she was sucked in and gone forever.

''It's stopped,'' Ida spoke suddenly breaking the silence.

''What was that? What was it?'' Rose asked questioning what had apparently stopped.

''The drill,'' The Doctor sated simply.

''We've stopped drilling. We've made it. Point Zero,'' Ida explained.

With that moment later Violet and Jones found themselves with everyone else in what Danny had told them was, the drilling area. Violet watched as her father put on the bright orange space suit he had been given. She couldn't believe he was going to go down with Ida, well actually thinking about it, it was exactly surprising was it really?

''I want that spacesuit back in one piece, you got that?'' Violet heard Rose say as the Doctor had moved to stand near the three.

''Yeah, just the suit, the person inside I'm not so concerned about,'' Jones joked causing the Doctor to smile.

''The support and confidence you give me Jones is the only reason I've allowed you to stay,'' The Doctor replied sarcastically as he went to but his yellow space helmet on.

''It's funny, because people back home think that space travel's going to be all whizzing about and teleports and anti gravity, but it's not, is it? It's tough,'' Rose spoke bring them all crashing back down to reality.

''I'll see you later,'' The Doctor said, skirting around the question.

''Yeah,'' Violet breathed out.

''See ya,'' Jones added.

''Not if I see you first,'' Rose added, before the Doctor moved towards the lift that would take him and Ida down.
''Capsule active. Counting down in ten, nine,'' Zach's voice rung over the comm. ''Eight, seven, six
Five, four, three, two, one. Release.'' Violet watched with worry when she saw the cable slowly lowering the capsule down.

''You've gone beyond the oxygen field. You're on your own,'' Zach said meaning the Doctor and Ida had to turn on the life support in their suits.

''Don't forget to breath. Breathing's good,'' Violet heard Rose say from where she was stood clutching the Comm.

''Rose, stay off the comm.,'' Violet swores she heard Jones chuckle.

''She a lot more nervous then you are,'' Jones sated.

''Well she has known him longer even if he is my father,'' Violet replied bluntly as she continued to watch the cable lower the Doctor and Ida down.

''Oi, Toby. Sounds like you've got plenty of work,'' Violet heard Rose say towards Toby.

''Good, good. Good,'' Toby replied from where he was sat lent up against the railing.

''Is he ok,'' Jones said looking over at Violet who had her eyes fixed on him.

''I don't know,'' Violet replied shifting her gaze to Jones. She was worried about Toby, something still didn't feel right.

''Officer at arms!'' Not having a comm and not bothering to go and listen to the one Rose had, Violet tensed when the crewmen decided to point their guns at the Ood.

''You can't fire a gun in here. What if you hit a wall?'' Rose shouted.

''I'm firing stock fifteen. It only impacts upon organics. Keep watch. Guard them,'' Jefferson orders.

''Wait why are you pointing guns at them?'' Violet asked.

''They're at basic one hundred meaning they should be dead,'' Rose explained filling both Violet and Jones in with what they had missed.

''Toby, they need to know that lettering. Does it make any sort of sense?'' Rose asked the man and yet again violet became concerned.

''I know what it says,'' Toby near enough groaned out and Violets eyes widened as he begun to grab his hair and rock back and forward.

''Then tell them,'' Rose said oblivious to Toby's strange action.

''When did you work that out?'' Jefferson asked, also unaware at Toby's actions because he was too busy watching the Ood.

All the while Rose and Jefferson were bickering violet had knelt down next to Toby. She didn't know what to do; all she could do was watch. Suddenly his head whipped up and she flinched, he was completely covered in the symbols his whole face, neck and hands.

Jones then gasped himself on noticing Toby's eyes were red a raw. Violet had been right, that had been something hiding inside him. Of course Jones had believed her anyway, but this was something he wasn't really anticipating to happen.

''These are the words of the Beast. And he has woken. He is the heart that beats in the darkness. He is the blood that will never cease. And now he will rise.'' Violets eyes widened, it was the voice the same voice she had heard in Toby's room.

Something had been there in his room, but it was just a conscious, she couldn't have possibly thought of that and now she felt stupid for leaving him. She had a feeling is she had got him to some medical bay, the Scooti may have been alive because Violet realised now that Toby was the only one close to where Scooti had been.

''Mister Jefferson. Tell me, sir. Did your wife ever forgive you?'' violets scrunched her forehead up in confusion, what had that got to do with anything.

''I don't know what you mean,'' Jefferson stuttered out.

''Let me tell you a secret. She never did.''

''Officer, you stand down and be confined,'' Jefferson stated, pointing his gun at Toby.

''Or what? ''

''Or under the strictures of Condition Red, I am authorised to shoot you,'' Jefferson commented.

''But how many can you kill?'' Jones's eyes widened as the symbols left Toby's body and transferred itself into the Ood.

As soon as Toby had collapsed Violet went right over to him to make sure he was ok. When she did eventually find a pulse, she breathed a sigh of relief.

''We are the Legion of the Beast,'' The Ood all spoke in unison.

''What best?'' Jones questioned the Ood.

''The Legion shall be many, and the Legion shall be few,'' The Ood continued ignoring Jones's question.

''Oh my god, Jones what did you say eairler,'' Violet squinted as she tried to recall what he had said, ''You said 666 was supposed to mean something and I've realised what that means.''

''No, it can't be Violet?'' Rose asked realising what she meant.

''666 is the devils number,'' Violet finished.

''No it's not, its 616,'' Jones argued.

''Ok, it may say that in the bible, but come on, if you ask anyone what the number is they always say 666,'' Violet explained.

''He has woven himself in the fabric of your life since the dawn of time. Some may call him Abaddon. Some may call him Kroptor. Some may call him Satan or Lucifer,'' The Ood spoke again, almost as if they were confirming Violets theory about it being the devil.

''Or the Bringer of Despair, the Deathless Prince, the Bringer of Night, these are the words that shall set him free.'' They carried on speaking.

''Back up to the door!'' Jefferson ordered as the Ood decided to start moving.

''I shall become manifest.''

''Move quickly!'' Jefferson shouted with his gun still trained on the Ood.

''I shall walk in might.''

''To the door! Get it open!'' Jefferson continued to shout orders.

''My Legions shall swarm across the worlds, I am the sin and the temptation and the desire. I am the pain and the loss and the,''

''Get that door open!'' Jefferson barks as the Ood moved closer and closer to them.

''I have been imprisoned for eternity. But no more,'' The Oods' words almost seem to hang in the air, only to be replaced by the sound of the computer.

''Door sealed.''

''Come on!'' Rose shouted frustrated with the door not opening.

''Door sealed,'' It repeated.

''You have got to be kidding me, first we get cornered by Cyberman, now possessed Oods', fantastic,'' No matter how Jones tried to lighten his mood with sarcasm, he was still as scared as everyone else. He even wrapped his arm around Violet and brought her close to him, he sighed, why couldn't it have been him who gave her that ring.

The Saturn pit is next.
