The Age of Steel
''Doctor a way out would be great right about now,'' Violet squirmed as the Cybermen came closer and closer to the group.
''Oh I've got one,'' The Doctor reached into his pocket brought out the Tardis power cell. Upon pointing it at the Cybermen a bright golden light emitted out of it causing them to reel backwards.
''What the hell was that?''Rickey shouted, while everyone recovered from the light; it hadn't just affected the Cybermen.
''Oh never mind that how about me run,'' Everyone nodded at Jones idea and grabbing Violets hand they began to run. It wasn't long until a familiar blue van, came speeding around the corner.
''Everybody, in!'' Mrs Moore shouted as Rickey and Jake proceeded to open up the side of the van. Rose, Mickey, and Jones had followed Ricky and Jake inside, but upon seeing Pete Tyler come to a halt the Doctor and Violet stopped with him.
''We have to go, it won't take them long to recover,'' Violet spoke trying to persuade Pete to follow them.
''I've got to go back. My wife's in there,'' He protested looking between Violet and the Doctor.
''Anyone inside that house is dead. If you want to help, then don't let her die for nothing. You've got to come with us right now,'' That got Pete to move.
''Come on! Get a move on!'' Mrs Moore shouted over the engine, as Pete, the Doctor and Violet ran towards the van.
''Come on,'' The Doctor said as he pulled his daughter and Pete into the van before then sliding the door closed.
''Finished chatting? Never seen a slower getaway in my life!'' Mrs Moore complained from the front seat.
''Oh believe me I've seen slower,'' Jones spoke looking over at Violet.
''It wasn't my fault, I swear she had a tracker on me all the time,'' Violet mumbled back earning a chuckle from Jones.
''I guess you haven't finished chatting then.''
''Sorry,'' They replied in unison to Mrs Moore's comment. Now wasn't exactly the time to recall when they tried to steal food from the house Kitchen when they were younger, and well long story short they got caught.
----------------------------------------
''What was that thing?'' Rickey asked, referring to what the Doctor had used to distract the Cybermen.
''Little bit of technology from my home,'' The Doctor replied simply.
''It's stopped glowing, has it run out?'' Mickey asked worried that they had just wasted their only hope of getting home.
''It's on a revitalising loop. It'll charge back up in about four hours.''
''Right, so, we don't have a weapon anymore,'' Rickey huffed.
''Yeah, we've got weapons. Also got their space age gun things,'' Jake said nodding towards Violet and Jones as he spoke.
''What guns, I told you to leave it behind, I thought you did,'' The Doctor wasn't happy.
''I left the one you told me to leave; you never gave me a pat down. What about Violet hers was in her boot the whole time,'' Violet turned to glare at her friend.
''Give them to me,'' The Doctor demanded.
''Why?'' They said at the same time. Violet didn't understand why her father hated guns; they were a way of defence, weren't they.
''Because I'm not having you running around with guns, especially in a parallel world,'' The Doctor explained as he held out his hand for the weapons.
''Don't you dare lose them, I got mine as a present from the face of Boe,'' Violet said as she reluctantly gave her Squareness gun to her father.
''Thanks a lot Jake,'' Jones mumbled as he handed his over.
''Might not be able to use them on those metal things, but they're good enough for men like him,'' Jake turned the convocation around and pointed the gun he held at Pete Tyler.
''Leave him alone. What's he done wrong?'' Rose asked confused as to why someone was pointing a gun at her parallel world father.
''Oh, you know, just laid a trap that's wiped out the Government and left Lumic in charge,'' Jake snapped back still pointing his gun at Pete.
''If I was part of all that, do you think I'd leave my wife inside?'' Pete tried to reason with him.
''Maybe your plan went wrong. Still gives us the right to execute you, though,'' Rickey spoke lifting up his own gun.
''Talk about executions, you'll make me your enemy. And take some really good advice. You don't want to do that,'' The Doctor shouted as he leant of the back of one of the seats.
''I'd listen and put the guns down if I were you, or he'll take them off you like he did mine and Jones's,'' Violets comment eventually made the men throw their guns down, in Jakes case in pure anger.
''All the same, we have evidence that says Pete Tyler's been working for Lumic since twenty point five,'' Rickey pointed out.
''Is that true?'' Rose looked over at her not dad, feeling upset that he was on the side of the Cybermen that had just attacked them.
''Tell them, Mrs M,'' Rickey draw everyone's attention towards Mrs Moore who was still sat in the driver's seat.
''We've got a government mole who feeds us information. Lumic's private files, his South American operations, the lot. Secret broadcasts twice a week,'' She replied.
''Broadcast from Gemini?'' Pete guessed, causing Rickey and Jake to look at each other confused.
''And how do you know that?'' Rickey asked.
''I'm Gemini. That's me,''
''Yeah, well you would say that,'' Rickey said not believing what Pete was telling him.
''Encrypted wavelength six five seven using binary nine. That's the only reason I was working for Lumic. To get information. I thought I was broadcasting to the Security Services. What do I get? Scooby Doo and his gang. They've even got the van,'' Pete signed at the end.
''There was probably a small print that read, you are now the newest member of the Scooby Doo gang,'' Violet joked. However, the only people who heard her were Rose and Jones as she heard them both try to hide their laughter.
''No, no, no. But the Preachers know what they're doing. Ricky said he's London's Most Wanted,'' Mickey chipped in.
''Yeah, that's not exactly,'' Rickey said slowly.
''Not exactly what?'' Mickey asked, although he knew he'd regret asking.
''I'm London's Most Wanted for parking tickets,'' Rickey confessed.
''ooh, that's not what you want to hear,'' Jones commented, as Pete just groaned.
''Yeah, they were deliberate. I was fighting the system. Park anywhere, that's me,'' Rickey said with a smile.
''Good policy. I do much the same. I'm the Doctor, by the way, if anyone's interested,'' The Doctor introduced himself smile for the first time since he had entered the Van.
''And I'm Rose. Hello,'' Rose gave a small wave as she spoke.
''oh and because you don't know who we are,'' Violet said pointing to Pete then towards Jones. ''I'm Violet, daughter of the Doctor and this is my friend Michael Jones.''
''But I prefer to be called Jones,'' Jones said speaking up.
''Even better. That's the name of my dog. Still, at least I've got the catering staff and one of their children on my side.''
''Oi I'm not a child,'' Violet glared and Pete and he just ignored her, he couldn't believe his was in a van full of strange and confusing people.
It had gone silent in the van for a while, not awkward as such, but it wasn't combatable either. Violet wanted to say something to break the silence; however she was still annoyed at the doctor for taking her weapon, so instead she sat quietly trying to figure a way of getting it back.
''ROSE: I knew you weren't a traitor,'' Rose was the one to have broken the silence and it came to no surprise that she was talking to Pete.
''Why is that, then?'' Pete asked, not sure as to why some serving girl he hardly knew, trusted him.
''I just did,'' Rose simply stated.
''They took my wife,'' Pete commented turning to look out the window, as if he wished his was anywhere but in a van.
''She might still be alive,'' Rose countered.
''Doubt it,'' Jones commented under his breath, which immediately led to his being slapped by Violet.
''If she is still alive that's even worse. Because that's what Lumic does. He takes the living and he turns them into those machines,'' Pete glared over at Jones confirming that he had heard his words.
''Cybermen. They're called Cybermen. And I'd take those ear pods off, if I were you. You never know. Lumic could be listening,'' The Doctor spoke up monitoring for Pete to take the silver ear pods out of his ears.
Pete obeyed straight away hurriedly taking them off. When he did take them off he hadn't them to the Doctor, who proceeded to whip his sonic out and zap them.
''But he's overreached himself. He's still just a businessman. He's assassinated the President. All we need to do is get to the city and inform the authorities. Because I promise you, this ends tonight''
''And if it doesn't?'' Jones asked following the Doctors angry tone of voice.
''Then we make it end,'' Violet replied before then going silent once again. Jones looked at her and noticed she was angry, but with who or what he wasn't sure. He did know however, that when Violet became angry and silent, it wasn't wise to go up against her. So if she says that it will end, then it would, no questions asked.
''What the hell?'' Were the first words that came out of Jakes mouth, when all nine people filed out of the blue van
At first Violet didn't understand what had shocked him, but it didn't take her long. People, hundreds of people were all walking behind one another and the one thing that they all had in common were the silver ear pods, which were now emitting a blue flashing light.
''What's going on?'' Rose asked following the Doctor as he went to inspect the people.
''Whatever it is it's creepy,'' Jones said waving his hand in front of a women that passed him by, she made no sign not even a blink of the eye, of him having put his hand in front of her face.
''It's the ear-pods. Lumic's taken control,'' The Doctor concluded, after having soniced the person nearest to him.
''Can't we just, I don't know, take them off?'' Rose said reaching up to the same woman that Jones had waved his hand in front of. The line had stopped so it was easy for Rose to take them off, but a shout stopped her.
''Rose don't you'll kill her,'' Violet had come running up to the blonde and caught her hands before they so much as touch the ear pods.
''She's right it'll cause a brainstorm. Human race, for such an intelligent lot, you aren't half susceptible. Give anyone a chance to take control and you submit. Sometimes I think you like it. Easy life,'' Violet swore she saw Mickey roll his eyes. The eye roll cause Violet to sigh, that's all the confirmation she needed to know that her father most of the time, would insult the human race.
''Hey, Come and see,'' Jake shouted yet again, However, this time from further down the street and straight away he had seven interested people run towards him.
''Oh my god,'' Violet gulped upon seeing even more people walking in ordered lines, with Cybermen over looking them. She hadn't a clue as to where they were going, but she wanted to know and the sooner the better.
''Where are they all going?'' Rose asked like she had read Violet's mind.
''I don't know. Lumic must have a base of operations,'' The Doctor concluded.
''Battersea. That's where he was building his prototypes,'' Pete spoke up, causing everyone to look round at him.
''Why's he doing it?'' Rose asked. Violet however feared she already know the answer.
''He's dying. This all started out as a way of prolonging life, of keeping the brain alive at any cost,'' Pete explained.
''That's how it always starts,'' Violet muttered, gaining the attention of her father. He frowned, he had no idea Violet knew so must about the Cybermen.
''The thing is, I've seen Cybermen before, haven't I? The head. Those handle shapes in Van Statten's museum,'' Rose hadn't heard Violets comment, so she continued to ask the Doctor questions.
''Ah, there are Cybermen in our universe. They started on an ordinary world just like this, and then swarmed across the galaxy. This lot are a parallel version, and they're starting from scratch right here on Earth,'' The Doctor explained.
''Just a bit more advanced though, they seemed to have skipped some stages,'' Violet referred to past Cybermen she had seen, ones with squarer heads and even ones that looked like robots that children would draw.
''nah I think they just upgraded quicker then they have before,'' Jones added.
''Let me guess you read that in a book?'' The Doctor asked, to which Jones just nodded. ''I think I need to take a look at those books of your Jones, they seem way too smart to me,''
''What the hell are you four on about?'' Pete asked but his question went unanswered.
''Never mind that. Come on, we need to get out of the city. Okay, split up. Mrs Moore, you look after that bloke. Jake, distract them. Go right, I'll go left. We'll meet back at Bridge Street. Move,'' Rickey ordered causing everyone to snap round at his sudden outburst.
''I'm going with him,'' Mickey piped up before kissing Rose on the Cheek and moving to follow his parallel self.
''I'll go with them,'' Violet said running off after the two, not waiting to hear the protests from the Doctor and Jones.
It didn't take Violet long to catch up with Mickey and Ricky, considering they kept denying they were the same, they both ran as slow as each other that was for sure.
''Which way? I don't know where we are,'' Mickey spoke looking for an answer for either Rickey or Violet.
''Did they see us?'' Rickey asked ignoring Mickey's comment completely.
''Do they know where we are?'' Violet huffed all the two were doing was firing questions that nobody knew the answer to.
''I think they saw us. I bet they can see in the dark.''
''I bet they've got satellites,''
''I bet they saw us in the dark,''
''They know where we are,'' They shouted together and that was the last straw for Violet.
''Would you two stop being paranoid, or better each other, or whatever this is. Just stop,'' Violet said causing both men to fall silent; silent for a split second that was.
''I don't get it. What is it with you? You are exactly like me,'' Rickey looked Mickey up and down still unable to comprehend Mickey being like him.
''I don't know, I reckon you're braver.''
''I'm sorry Mickey but did you just compliment him,'' Violet asked fake gasping in shock.
''Oh yeah, ten times. Still, your friends aren't bad. I'll give you that. Well this one and her friend are a bit debatable,'' Rickey confessed ignoring Violets comment completely.
''Oh let me guess you don't like us because we're strange,'' Violet said as they begun to walk slowly down the street, checking in all direction in case a Cyberman turned up.
''It's not that, it's that your both just different and different around here doesn't go unnoticed epically by us,'' Rickey explained and Violet guessed that by us Rocky meant Jake and Mrs Moore.
Violet would have replied, but she was stopped by the sound of heavy metal boots hitting the ground. It didn't sound far away either.
''Cybermen,'' Mickey shouted.
'Split up! And run,'' Violet shouted and they did exactly what she said.
----------------------------------
Violet hadn't been running that long, until she saw figures in the distance. The only people that it could have possibly would be the Doctor, Rose and the other. As she got closer her suspicions were confirmed when she heard Jake's out of breath voice, as he reached them before she did.
''I ran past the river. You should have seen it. The whole city's on the march. Hundreds of Cybermen all down the Thames,'' He said.
''Doctor,'' Violet shouted running up to group and hugging her father, Rose and Jones.
''Where's Mickey?'' Rose asked.
''And Rickey,'' Jake added.
''I don't know, we were being chased and we got split up, but I'm sure there both aright,'' Violet replied looking slightly weary; she had no idea in which direction they went in.
Then a familiar man came running towards them. Just the one and nobody could tell if it was Rickey or Mickey. Although Violet did hope it was Mickey because she'd gotten to like him, even if they'd only just really met.
''Here he is! Which one are you?'' Jake asked and judging by the way he had started speaking, he'd hopped it was Rickey.
''I'm sorry. The Cybermen. He couldn't,'' Rickey or was it Mickey breathed out, bending over to catch his breath as he spoke.
''Are you Ricky? Are you Ricky?'' Jake repeated.
''Mickey, that's you, isn't it?'' Rose spoke walking slowly towards him.
''Yeah,'' Mickey replied as Rose moved over to hug him.
''Well at least we don't have to worry about getting their names round the wrong way,'' Jones commented causing everyone to turn and look at him.
''Jones, just stop talking. I mean it, like right now,'' Violet huffed, leave it to Jones to say something like that, someone died and he went and made a joke about it.
''There was nothing I could do,'' Mickey stepped towards Jake as if he was going to comfort him.
''I said just shut it. Don't even talk about him. You're nothing, you are. Nothing,'' Jake said walking backwards.
''Hey that's a bit harsh,'' Violet snapped back.
''We can mourn him and shout at each other when London is safe. But now, we move on,'' The Doctor butted in before a shouting match begun between Jake and Violet, although he had a feeling Jones would have joined in as well.
-------------------------------------
''What is that place?'' Jones asked as the now group of eight came to a halt on top of a hill, which overlooked a power station
''Battersea PowerStation,'' Rose answered earning a grateful nod from Jones in return.
''The whole of London's been sealed off, and the entire population's been taken inside that place. To be converted,'' The Doctor explained his eyes growing wide as tonnes of smoke rose out of the cooling towers.
''We've got to get in there and shut it down,'' Rose was the one to speak up as everyone stood and watched.
''How do we do that?'' Mickey asked.
''Oh, I'll think of something,'' The doctor replied.
''You're just making this up as you go along,''
''Yep. But I do it brilliantly,'' The Doctor smiled and winked.
''No. No you don't,'' Violet spoke walking past everyone, they all stared after her not really sure why she had said what she'd just said.
'' That's a schematic of the old factory. Look. Cooling tunnels underneath the plant. Big enough to walk through,'' Mrs Moore had retrieved her laptop from the van and the Doctor and Violet sat around her as she showed the blueprints of the Battersea PowerStation.
''We go under there and up into the control centre?'' The Doctor asked, gaining a hum in response from Mrs Moore.
''So that way we get in unseen,'' Violet added, looking closer at the screen.
''There's another way in. Through the front door. If they've taken Jackie for upgrading, that's how she'll get in,'' Pete spoke up.
''We can't just go strolling up,''
''Yeah I agree with Jake, we can't just go up and say. Sorry to bother you, but you have our friends wife, could you please give her back to us preferably not contained in a metal suit,'' Jones spit out.
''What's got you all riled up?'' Violet asked Jones as she stood up from her position on the bench, before then walking towards him.
''I think, we should go as soon as the Tardis has power, let nature take its course. We aren't from the world Vi, maybe this is how this world ends; I know for a fact we don't end here, and you defiantly don't,'' Jones made sure to keep his voice low so the only person that heard him was her.
''I know what you mean, but me can't Jones, we have a chance to save people here. I can't turn my back on those people, even if they aren't from the same world as us,'' Jones nodded in understanding. He knew that if there was at least a way to save somebody, Violet would try it, no matter what.
''Jakey-boy, Violet Lumic's transmitting the control signal. It must be from over there,'' The Doctor caught Violets attention as he used his sonic to point a big zeppelin that seemed to be parked on top of the PowerStation.
''Oh there it is. On the zeppelin, you see?'' Violet asked Jake, making sure he was on the same wave length as herself and her father.
''Great big transmitter. Good thing Lumic likes showing off. Reckon you two could take it out?'' The Doctor asked both of them.
''Consider it done,'' Jake replied taking Violets nod as a yes as well.
''Mrs Moore, Commander, would you care to accompany me into the cooling tunnels?'' The Doctor asked two out of the three people left.
''How could I refuse an offer of cooling tunnels?'' Mrs Moore replied.
''Guess I've got no choice,'' Jones muttered under his breath.
''Cheer up Jones,'' The Doctor patted the solider on the shoulder, before he continued to explain a plan he had created ''we attack on three sides. Above, between and below. We get to the control centre, we stop the conversion machines,'' Mrs Moore nodded and so did Jones reluctantly however.
''What about me?'' Mickey's voice cut in and it was only then that everybody realised he was still there.
''Mickey. You can er,'' The Doctor desperately tried to think of something, but he failed.
''What, stay out of trouble? Be the tin dog? No, those days are over. I'm going with Jake and Violet.''
'' We don't need you, idiot,'' Jake snapped.
''Mickey don't listen to him you can come if you want,'' Violet shot a glare in Jake's direction, to which he just rolled his eyes.
''I'm not an idiot! You got that? I'm offering to help,'' However, Mickey looked grateful at the fact that Violet had said without any hesitation, she could go with them.
''Whatever,'' Jake mumbled as he started to walk off.
''Mickey. Good luck,'' The Doctor said to Mickey before he left to follow.
''Yeah, you too. Rose, I'll see you later,'' Mickey spoke moving to hug her.
''Yeah, you'd better,'' She said as Mickey went to catch up with Jake.
''I'll make sure he stays alive and Jake doesn't kill him,'' Violet made the Doctor chuckle as she went over to hug him. ''You mister also better come back,'' Violet pointed at Jones before she moved over to hug him.
''I'll try my best, Ma'am,'' Jones replied saluting her. He then watched as she ran off to catch up with Mickey and Jake. ''So cooling towers then?'' Jones asked once it was just him the Doctor and Mrs Moore left.
''Yep, cooling towers,'' The Doctor agreed with a nod of his head.
------------------------------------------
''It's freezing,'' Was the thing Mrs Moore said when the trio entered the cooling towers.
''You not wrong, they should be called freezing towers, not cooling,'' Jones agreed with her as he came down the ladder last.
''Any sign of a light switch?'' The Doctor asked ignoring both their comments.
''Can't see a thing. But I've got these,'' Mrs Moore opened her bag a pulled out three head bands that had touches fitted on the front of them. ''A device for every occasion,'' She added.
''Ooo!'' The Doctor seemed a little too excited as Mrs Moore headed the headbands to him and Jones.
''Now we look like Daleks,'' Jones joked as he put the touch on his head. Although the Doctor just looked at him confused how Jones know about the Daleks.
''Haven't got a hotdog in there, have you? I'm starving,'' The Doctor asked instead, but he made a note to question Jones on the Daleks later.
''Of all the things to wish for. That's mechanically recovered meat,''
''I know. It's the Cyberman of food, but it's tasty,'' The Doctor smiled up at Mrs Moore with a smile as he spoke.
''Oh look I just found a touch, can me focus now,'' The solider side of Jones had come out as he said the words.
''Let's see where we are,'' The Doctor replied.
It was clear that not one out of the three that were stood in the tunnel had expected to see two rows of Cybermen either side of them. When the light from Jones's touch reflects off the first Cyberman, he reeled back in fear that it would move at any moment. Lucky it didn't.
''It ok their already converted,'' The Doctor tapped one on its face to make sure. ''See, just put on ice. Come on,'' The Doctor moved on taking the touch out of Jones's hand so he could see where he was going.
----------------------------------------
Meanwhile, another group of three had managed to climb on top of the PowerStation's roof and were heading in the direction of a Zeppelin that was attached to it. The three quickly moved behind a large metal poll that, so that the guards they had spotted wouldn't spot them.
''Two guards. We can take them,'' Violet scrunched her nose up as she realised that 'take them out' probably meant killing them.
''You can't kill them,'' She whispered more to Jake then Mickey because she knew he'd be against it as well.
''Who put you in charge?'' Jake said turning towards Violet.
''If you kill them, what's the difference between you and the Cybermen?''Violet couldn't deny it, Mickey made a very good point.
''Well, I suppose we could use these,'' Jake reached into his jacket a brought out to pots fall of what looked like pills.
''Smelling salts?'' Mickey asked in disbelief.
''Bit stronger than that, one of Mrs Moore's little tricks, should knock them out,'' Jake explained passing a bottle to Mickey at the same time. ''Three, two, one,'' He whispered and Violet watched as they run up behind the two guards and lifted the bottle to their noses. It didn't take the men to collapse on the ground.
While they were doing that Violet had run up to the door of th zeppelin and tried to open the door. However it didn't budge.
''Is it locked?'' Jake asked running up behind her.
''yeah but don't worry, I came prepared,'' With that said Violet reached into her jacket and pulled out her squareness gun. She pointed it at the door and within seconds there was a square shaped whole in it.
''I thought you gave that to the Doctor,'' Mickey asked as they entered the zeppelin.
''He did, but I hugged him and I got it back, Jones has his too,'' Violet replied with a smile. Jake gave her an impressed look. Maybe he was starting to like these two.
Jones, Mrs Moore and the Doctor were still down in the cooling tunnels with only their head torches and a small hand touch to guide the way. Every few seconds Jones would glance up at a Cyberman, he had a small feeling that even though they were asleep, they could wake up and attack at any time.
''How did you get into this, then, rattling along with the Preachers?'' The Doctor asked, breaking the silence that had fallen over the three.
''Oh, I used to be ordinary. Worked at Cybus Industries, nine to five, till one day, I find something I'm not supposed to. A file on the mainframe. All I did was read it. Then suddenly I've got men with guns knocking in the middle of the night. Life on the run. Then I found the Preachers. They needed a techie, so I, I just sat down and taught myself everything,'' Mrs Moore replied.
''So all that stuff, with the computer and hacking, you learnt to do yourself,'' Jones was in awe at how she'd taught herself so much, in probably a very short amount of time.
''Yeah,'' She replied with a smile.
''What about Mr Moore?'' The Doctor asked, becoming interested in Mrs Moore by the second.
''Well, he's not called Moore. I got that from a book, Mrs Moore. It's safer not to use real names. But he thinks I'm dead. It was the only way to keep him safe. Him and the kids. What about you? Have you got a wife, Violets mother?'' She asked.
''Violets all I need right now, and I'm fine with that at the moment,'' The Doctor replied after a while of thinking.
''Mrs Moore, if you don't mind me asking what's your real name?'' Jones asked from behind, he had fallen back while the Doctor and her talked and had only just caught up with them.
''Angela Price. Don't tell a soul,'' She whispered back.
''Not a word,'' The Doctor replied.
''We promise,'' Jones added.
The three continued in silence and Jones wondered if the tunnels actually ended. He was also worried that they had passed hundreds of Cybermen on the way and if they became active then they would be screwed. It didn't take long for Jones's fear to come true when Mrs Moore noticed something.
''Doctor, did that one just move?'' She asked.
''It's just the torchlight. Keep going, come on,'' The Doctor stopped to check, before he moved on, a little quicker than before though.
However, it turned out Mrs Moore was right because they hadn't ventured much further when the Doctor this time noticed the arm of the Cyberman closest to him move its arm.
''They're waking up. Run!'' He shouted.
All three of them on the doctor's instruction broke into a run. Either side of Jones Cybermen begun to move and wobble about as they begun to wake up from their sleep. At a few seconds of flat out running a ladder came into view and one at a time they climbed up, into hopefully somewhere that had less Cybermen wandering about.
''Phew that was close,'' Jones breathed out after he helped the doctor lock the trap door, so the Cybermen wouldn't come up any time soon.
------------------------------------
Violet however, was having a much easier time with Mickey and Jake. They had successfully knocked out all the guards on the zeppelin and had now entered the may control room.
''Nice one. Nobody's home. Find the transmitter controls,'' Was the first thing Jake said after they'd entered and he'd dropped a guard on the floor.
''What do they look like?'' Mickey asked.
''Well, I don't know. They might have Transmitter Controls written in big red letters. Just look!'' Jake snapped back beginning to look himself.
''I hope it's just a button, a nice big red button, I love big red buttons. I can never resist the urge to press them,'' Violets words caused Jake to look at her weirdly as if she was mad, but he didn't say anything because he didn't want to start another argument.
''What do you thinks in here?'' Mickey asked as he turned his back on the front window of the zeppelin to see a small alcove that appeared to have something inside.
''Why don't we just tun the light on,'' Violet wandered over to the alcove and switched on the light.
''Cyberman!'' Jake shouted immediately pulling out a pistol he had, had hidden in his jacket.
''Put the gun away, remember bullets won't stop it,'' Violet pulled the gun out of his hand and chucked it to the furthest end of the zeppelin. She now felt as if she understood why the doctor didn't like guns, it was because the people who use them just shoot at anything and everything that scars them in the slightest; or is deemed as a threat.
''It's dead. I don't think it was ever alive,'' Mickey spoke as he walked up and tapped it on the head.
''It's empty. No brain. It's just a robot suit. It's for display,'' Jake walked away satisfied with his diagnoses. Although Violet wasn't so sure, why would there be an empty Cyberman just stood in the Zeppelin.
''The transmitter controls are sealed behind here, we need like an oxyacetylene or something,'' Violet heard Mickey speak, but she too busy still looking at the Cyberman to actually listen. Something felt wrong.
''We'll crash the Zeppelin,'' Jake's comment caused Violet to break out of her daze and whip around to face him.
''What?'' She stormed up to them, wanting to know why Jake had even suggested the idea.
''Calm down we could set it to automatic and then just leg it. Let's have a look,'' Jake reassured Violet as he scanned the controls on the steering wheel looking for the auto button.
''It's locked. There's got to be an override,'' He sighed once he'd found it.
''Let me have a go. I'm good with computers. Trust me,'' Mickey offered and no one stopped him he started to try and override the override.
Nobody in the room noticed that a small light on the keyboard go read, all apart from Violet. However she dismissed it thinking it was something Mickey had done, she was exactly wrong, but she wished she had looked behind her sooner.
''Almost there,'' Mickey said as he tapped furiously.
''Not bad work,'' Jake admitted.
Violet would have praised Mickey as well, but the sound of something moving caught her attention.
''It's moving! You said it was dead!'' Violet turned to see she wasn't the only one that had heard the noise and it turned out the Cyberman was waking up.
''It must have been asleep, Mickey probably activated it by accident,'' Violet draw her gun as she spoke.
''I thought you said guns don't work?'' Jones asked backing away from the Cyberman.
''They don't, but it's a good way of distracting them,'' Violet pointed out.
''Yeah. But a robot's still a big robot. Wait a minute. Hey, Cyberman, over here. Come on, you brainless lump of metal. Come and have a go!'' Mickey shouted catching the attention of the Cyberman.
''Mickey what are you doing?'' Violet was horrified; it was going to kill him.
''Something stupid,'' Mickey shouted back as he backed up against where the main controls were kept. As the Cyberman lifted its arm to attack him he ducked and as a consequence the Cyberman's arm smashed through a panel of the wall electrocuting itself in the process.
''The transmitter's down!'' Mickey cried in triumph.
''Mickey your amazing,'' Violet put her gun away and went over to hug him. The Cyberman had destroyed the transmitter meaning that Lumic's hold on the people's brains had stopped.
''What do we do know?'' Jake asked realising what they had planned to do was done.
''Hold on, I've logged on to Cyber Control,'' Violet looked over at Mickey in even more amazement, she hadn't known how good he was with computers. Moments later Violet saw the screen change showing the Doctor, Jones, Rose and Pete.
''They're alive! The Doctor and Rose, there they are!'' Mickey pointed at the screen a big smile on his face,
''And Jones,'' Violet added with a smile of her own.
''Never mind them, what the hell is that thing?'' Violet followed Jakes finger and gasped when she saw a Cyberman sat in massive throne like structure.
''I'm guessing its Lumic, he must have turned himself into some type of Cyber King,'' Violet guessed shrugging her shoulders.
''Shush. Has this thing got sound?'' Mickey quietened the down as he pressed some more buttons the keyboard he had in his arms. It wasn't long before they could all hear Lumic's Cyberman voice coming through the monitor.
''I will bring peace to the world. Everlasting peace,'' Violet scoffed upon hearing him.
''Wait so your telling me that destruction is the new peace,'' Violet grinned at Jones's comment, she was right any situation, no matter what, he would always try to make a joke.
''And unity and uniformity,'' Lumic continued to talk ignoring Jones and his comment.
''And imagination? What about that? The one thing that lead you here, imagination, you're killing it dead!'' The Doctor snapped back.
''What is your name?'' Lumic asked.
''I'm the Doctor.''
''A redundant title. Doctors need not exist. Cybermen never sicken,'' If Cybermen could sound arrogant Lumic nailed it.
Yeah, but that's it. That's exactly the point! Oh, Lumic, you're a clever man. I'd call you a genius, except I'm in the room. But everything you've invented, you did to fight your sickness. And that's brilliant. That is so human. But once you get rid of sickness and mortality, then what's there to strive for, eh? The Cybermen won't advance. You'll just stop. You'll stay like this forever. A metal Earth with metal men and metal thoughts, lacking the one thing that makes this planet so alive. People. Ordinary, stupid, brilliant people,'' The Doctor explained waving his hands around and Violet grinned from where she was watching in the zeppelin.
''You are proud of your emotions.''
''Oh, yes,'' The Doctor gave a huge grin.
''Then tell me, Doctor. Have you known grief, and rage, and pain?''
''Yes. Yes I have.'' The Doctor nodded.
''And they hurt?'' Lumic asked.
Violet tuned out for a bit not wanting to hear Lumic gloat and question the Doctor anymore than he already had. Although it wasn't long until her attention was drawn back to the screen.
''You just don't get it, do you? An army's nothing. Because those ordinary people, they're the key. The most ordinary person could change the world,'' The Doctor turns towards the camera that Violet, Mickey and Jake were looking through from the zeppelin.
''He's talking to us,'' Violet said grabbing Mickey and Jake's attention as they had both spaced out as well
''Some ordinary man or woman, some idiot. All it takes is for him to find, say, The right numbers. Say the right codes. Say, for example, the code behind the emotional inhibitor. The code right in front of him,'' Mickey got the hint and begun typing on the keyboard again.
''Because even an idiot knows how to use computers these days.'' Mickey smiled at the Doctors comment and carried on typing.
''Knows how to get past firewalls and passwords. knows how to find something encrypted in the Lumic Family Database, under er. What was it, Pete? Binary what?'' The Doctor asked turning towards Pete.
''Binary nine,'' Pete replied before then realising what the doctor was talking about.
''Binary Nine,'' Mickey muttered and Violet watched as his fingers moved quicker across the keyboard.
''An idiot could find that code. Cancellation code,'' The Doctor paused before saying ''And he'd keep on typing, keep on fighting. Anything to save his friends.''
''Your words are irrelevant,'' Violet scoffed at Lumic's comment.
''Cybermen are actually really stupid, haven't you noticed Jake,'' Jake nodded at her statement totally agreeing with her.
''Yeah, talk too much, that's my problem. Lucky I got you that cheap tariff, Rose, for all our long chats,'' The Doctor made the sign of a phone with his hands before then saying ''On your phone.''
''The Phone, Violet type it in,'' Mickey threw his phone towards Violet and she typed the number 6879760, which was on the screen
''You will be deleted,'' Lumic shouted slightly agitated.
''Yes. Delete, control, hash. All those lovely buttons. Then, of course, my particular favourite, send. And let's not forget how you seduced all those ordinary people in the first place,'' On hearing the word send Violet pressed the button and waited for Rose to get the text.
''Yes!'' They all cheered together as they watched the Doctor put the phone into a slot on one of the computers surrounding him. Next thing that happened was that the building begun to explode beneath the Zeppelin
As violet watched the chaos bellow she didn't notice that Jake had run over to the wheel and started to move the Zeppelin.
"What're you doing?" Mickey yelled running up to the wheel himself to stop Jake.
"We've got to get away. If that factory blows up, this balloon's going to ignite," Jake reason spinning the wheel again.
"Take it back, right now Jake," Jake turned to face Violet who had decided to point her squareness gun at him.
"You wouldn't," Jake spoke stumbling away from Mickey and the wheel.
"You wanna bet I could just say the Cyberman got at you," Jake searched her face to see not hint that she was lying.
"Hold on tight, we're going up! Welcome to Mickey Smith's Airline. Please enjoy your flight. Woo!" Upon hearing Mickey's cheer Violet lowered her gun.
"Guess my plan worked,"She said smiling sweetly at Jake.
"What plan?" Jake asked confused.
"The plan to distract you so Micky could save everyone. I wasn't really going to shoot you," Violet explained putting her gun away and hugging him as a way to show so was sorry for scaring him.

Violet and Jones watched as, safely back in the Tardis, The Doctor put the power cell back into the console, making the Tardis starts to light up.
"That means me can go home now Rose," Violet called exiting the Tardis to tell the blonde.
"Here it is. I found it. Not a crease," Violet grinned as she watched Mickey had the Doctor back his suit.
"My suit! Good man. Now then, Jake, we've got to run. But one more thing. Mrs Moore. Her real name was Angela Price. She's got a husband out there, and children. Find them. Tell them how she died saving the world," The Doctor went serous again.
"Yeah, course I will," Jake nodded promising.
"Off we go, then," The Doctor said cheerfully, looking at his four companions in turn.
"Er, thing is, I'm staying," Mickey confessed.
"You're doing what?" Violet was the only one that wasn't shocked because Mickey had discussed it with her before hand and she had agreed with him. However, she was sad to see him leave.
"You can't," Rose protested.
"It sort of balances out, because this world lost its Ricky, but there's me. And there's work to be done with all those Cybermen still out there," Mickey explained.
"But you can't stay," Rose said again.
"Rose, my gran's here. She's still alive. My old gran, remember her?"
Jones looked over at Violet and saw tears begin to fall down her face. He went over and pulled her in to the Tardis, she was never good with goodbyes and he knew that all to well.
