Fear Her

A knock on Violets bedroom door came as she just finished tucking a gold chain into her t-shirt, which had her engagement ring on the end. After about an hour of convincing her Jones had finally made her agree to where the ring on a chain around her neck. True to her word that’s what she was doing.

‘’The Tardis has landed, are you coming,’’ She was relieved when it turned out to just be Jones behind the door.

‘’Yeah, just give me a second,’’ She replied, grabbing a denim jacket before she opened her door to follow Jones into the control room and out of the Tardis.

At first glance all Violet could see what she thought was an abandoned planet, with cargo containers dumped everywhere. However, upon hearing a train wiz past behind her, she soon realised they must have travelled to earth again.

‘’When are we?’’ Jones asked looking around at the containers that surrounded them.

‘’Near future, yeah?’’ Rose said adding to Jones’s question.

‘’I had a passing fancy. Only it didn't pass, it stopped,’’ The Doctor replied with a grin as her gestured for the group to follow him, to which they did.

They hadn’t gone very far when Violet spotted a street sign that read; Dame Kelly Holmes Close, in big bold letters.

‘’Thirtieth Olympiad,’’ She heard her father exclaim. She wasn’t going to lie, but it did take her a while to figure out what he was on about, but after some thought it soon came to her. The annual four year summer Olympic games.

‘’No way! Why didn't I think of this? That's great,’’ Rose squealed in delight, though upon turning to look at Jones and Violet she noticed that they did not share her excitement.

‘’Only seems like yesterday a few naked Greek blokes were tossing a discus about, wrestling each other in the sand with crowds stood around baying. No, wait a minute that was Club Med. Just in time for the opening doo dah, ceremony, tonight, I thought you'd like that. Last one they had in London was dynamite. Wembley, 1948. I loved it so much; I went back and watched it all over again. Fella carrying the torch. Lovely chap, what was his...’’ But all three of the Doctor’s companions had stopped listening him a long time ago. Their attention had diverted from the Time Lord to a man who seemed to be sticking up posters on to various lampposts.

‘’Mark? John? Mark? Legs like pipe cleaners, but strong as a whippet,’’ The Doctor continued unawre that nobody was even following him anymore.

Curiosity getting the better of Rose, Violet and Jones, they each wandered up to the same poster and stood their tiptoes to read what was printed on it. To Violet’s surprise it was the face of a child, a boy to exact and on the bottom was printed a name and phone number; John Mark, 19251991.

‘’Doctor,’’ Rose called.

‘’And in those days, everybody had a tea party to go to,’’ He carried on ramberling totally ignoring Rose’s shouts.

‘’Doctor!’’ She tried again.

‘’Did you ever have one of those little cakes with the crunchy ball bearings on top?’’ Violet let out a sign as she just watched her father carry on talking and walking further way from them.

‘’You should really look at this,’’ Rose said this time hopping he’d hear her,

‘’Do you know those things? Nobody else in this entire galaxy's ever even bothered to make edible ball bearings. Genius,’’ The Doctor replied finally turning around to see that every single one of his companions were huddled around a lamppost looking up at a piece of paper that hung limply of it.

They all watched as he reads two other posters one with the name of boy on it, which was Dale Hicks.

‘’What's taking them, do you think? Snatching children from a thoroughly ordinary street like this. Why's it so cold? Is someone reducing the temperature?’’ The Doctor stated getting slightly of topic as he carried on speaking.

‘’It says they all went missing this week. Why would a person do something like this?’’ Rose added.

‘’What makes you think it's a person?’’ The Doctor spoke.

‘’They could have been eaten you know,’’ Jones piped up causing the Doctor to look a him in a way that said ‘that’s not what I meant.’

‘’Jones could be right there could be a plague of Vashta Nerada somewhere,’’ Violet added.

‘’That’s a good point, but there’d be a pile of bones left behind, so we can rule them out,’’ The replied shutting down Jones and Violet’s theory.

‘’What’s Vashta Nerada?’’ Rose asked once she’d got her mouth around the words. It took her a while to pronounce the name.

‘’I’ll tell you later,’’ The Doctor said stopping Violet from opening her mouth to explain. He hopped that by the end of the day Rose would have forgotten because he didn’t want to tell her about shadows that eat people, or any type of meat for that matter.

‘’Doctor, didn’t you say it was the Olympic opening  ceremony today?’’ Jones asked as they all walked together down a street that seemed a little too quiet for his liking.

‘’Yes I did why?’’ The Doctor replied a little confused by Jones’s comment.

‘’Then shouldn’t people be celebrating, where are they,’’ Jones explained as a women walked over to a bin, putting her rubbish inside it before hurrying back inside. The only people that seemed to stay outside where some council workers who were trying to fix the road.

‘’Whatever it is, it's got the whole street scared to death. Doctor, what,’’ However, before Rose finished the sentence the Time Lord had already gone; not over to the men, but a front garden that held a miniature goal.

Intrigued to what her father was up to, Violet followed him leaving Rose and Jones to help a man whose car engine had given out. Once she’d reached the Doctor she was overcome with a powerful smell, a smell you wouldn’t expect to come from a small patch of grass on someone’s front garden.

‘’Whoa, that’s a bit strong,’’ She said taking a step back as the smell made her a little dizzy.

‘’Ooo, tickles!’’ The Doctor exclaimed yet again ignoring what his daughter had said. Although he did listen when a man came out of the house and started to question what he was doing, just knelt on somebody’s garden.

‘’What's your game?’’

‘’My er. Snakes and Ladders? Quite good at squash. Reasonable. I'm being facetious, aren't I. There's no call for it,’’ The Doctor replied.

‘’That’s not what he meant,’’ Violet groaned, as the man started making the Doctor back up into the road, while she still stood on the pavement outside the house. The smell wasn’t as strong from where she was stood, but it was strong enough for her to be able to a least try and work out what it was.

‘’I'm, I'm a police officer! That's what I am. I've got a badge and a police car. You don't have to get. I can, I can prove it. Just hold on,’’ The Doctor reasoned with the man as he tried to pull his psychic paper from his suit pocket.

‘’We've had plenty of coppers poking around here, and you don't look or sound like any of them,’’ The man said, becoming angrier with the Doctor by the second.

‘’See, look. I've got a colleague’s. Lewis, Jones and,’’ Before he could make a name up for Violet the man started to talk again.

‘’Well, they look less like copper’s than you do.’’

‘’Training. New recruits’. It was either that or hairdressing, or for him the army so, voila!’’ Violet knew she had to say something and soon because even though the Doctor had finally found his psychic paper she knew that this man would still not listen to him.

‘’What are you going to do?’’ A young woman had come out of her house to see what was happening, since she had heard the commotion with the Doctor and the man, who Violet still didn’t know.

‘’The police have knocked on every door. No clues, no leads, nothing,’’ One of the council men said looking disapprovingly at the group of four.

‘’Look, kids run off sometimes, all right? That's what they do,’’ The man protested and Violet could tell he hopped that’s what had happened because now she was beginning to guess one of his children had been taken.

‘’Saw it with me own eyes. Dale Hicks in your garden, playing with your Tommy, and then pfft! Right in front of me, like he was never there. There's no need to look any further than this street. It's right here amongst us,’’ The same council worker explained.

‘’Why don't we,’’ The Doctor cut in wanting to stop an argument from happening between the small gathering of people.

‘’Why don't we start with him? There have been all sorts like him in this street, day and night,’’ Another woman had joined the conversation and was pointing towards the second council man.

‘’Fixing things up for the Olympics,’’ He replied seeming a little offended by the woman’s accusation.

‘’Yeah, and taking an awful long time about it,’’ By now Violet had lost track of who was talking and decided to go and stand near Jones who was stood behind the group of squabbling adults.

‘’He’s going to do the fingers on lips thing in a miuet just you wait,’’ She whispered to Jones.

‘’What’s that?’’ He didn’t really need to ask because within minutes the Doctor spoke.

‘’Fingers on lips!’’ Jones looked at the adults in confusion they were all coping the Doctors action. They all had there fingers on their lips, which instantly stopped the argument from continuing.

‘’Told ya,’’ Violet spoke a grin rising to her lips as she watched Jones’s confused and amazed expression on his face.
‘’In the last six days, three of your children have been stolen. Snatched out of thin air, right?’’ The Doctor asked.

‘’Er, can I?’’ The first council man who had spoken asked the Doctor if her could say something and reluctantly the Doctor nodded for him to continue, ‘’Look around you. This was a safe street till it came. It's not a person. I'll say it if no one else will. Maybe you're coppers, maybe you're not. I don't care who you are. Can you please help us?’’

‘’Well we know there’s at least one kid still here,’’ Jones said nodding his head in the direction he was looking in. Unfortunately before Violet could see who was there the child was gone and the young woman who had said only one thing rushed inside.

‘’Looks like she’s not allowed out,’’ Jones continued. By now the group had split up, the council men went back to their work, the missing Childs father went back inside and the other woman just seemed to disappear. Much like Jones’s friends had because when he looked around him, he huffed in frustration it seemed he had been talking to himself and by the time he had caught sight of them they were walking off to look behind the houses. Sighing again he ran to catch up with them.

------------------------------------------------------

When Jones had finally caught up with the group he found Violet and Rose stroking a ginger cat and pinning over how cute it was and well since the Doctor hadn’t seen the cat he thought they were talking about him.

‘’Aren't you a beautiful boy?’’ Rose cooed as she and Violet continued to pet the cat.

‘’Thanks! I'm experimenting with back combing,’’ The Doctor responded proudly.

‘’Their talking about the cat not you,’’ Jones piped up walking to stand next to the Time Lord.

‘’Oh,’’ The Doctor looked down a little upset.

‘’I used to have one like you. What?’’ Rose finished not quite understanding the look the Doctor wore on his face.

‘’No, I'm not really a cat person. Once you've been threatened by one in a nun's wimple, it kind of takes the joy out of it,’’ he responded truthfully.

‘’Oh you’ve get to tell me that story later,’’ Violet spoke up, wanting to know what trouble he got himself into.

‘’Come here, puss. What do you want to go in there for?’’ Rose stood up frowning when the cat suddenly decided to walk off and into a cardboard box that sat on the grass.

‘’Doctor!’’ Rose shouted when she realised that upon looking into the box the cat had disappeared.

‘’God it’s that smell again,’’ Violet exclaimed walking backwards to get away from the smell, for some reason it made stomach turn in nauseating circles.

‘’Whoa! Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo. Ion residue. Blimey! That takes some doing. Just to snatch a living organism out of space-time. This baby is just like; I'm having some of that. I'm impressed,’’ The Doctor rambled excitedly as he picked the box up and twirled it around in his hands.

‘’So the cat's been transported?’’ Rose asked.

‘’It can harness huge reserves of ionic power. We need to find the source of that power. Find the source and you will find whatever has taken to stealing children and fluffy animals. See what you can see. Keep them peeled, Lewis,’’ The Doctor explained.

‘’So to put it simply they kind of have been transported,’’ Jones said, raising an eyebrow.

‘’Yes I suppose so,’’ The Doctor mumbled.

‘’Doctor Jones said he saw someone, a kid maybe when should start with them,’’ Violet suggested while making her way over to them, thankfully for her the smell had dispersed somewhat meaning it no longer made her feel dizzy and or ill.

‘’I saw her too,’’ Rose added.

‘’Right them, um lets go,’’ The Doctor hesitated slightly a little surprised that he was the only one that hadn’t seen the child in the window, well technically Violet didn’t either, but she still knew about it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Violet scrunched her forehead in confusion when she heard the noise of something bashing against metal. She wasn’t the only one that had noticed the sound, Rose had as well and it seemed to be coming from one of the garages surrounding them.

‘’Is that you, puss cat? Are you trapped?’’ Rose asked moved slowly towards the garage that was making the noise. However, she jumped back when the thumping noise grew louder and angrier.

‘’I’m just going to put it out there, I don’t think it’s a cat in there,’’ Jones stated keeping a good amount of distance between himself and the garage.

‘’Meaning if it’s not the cat then what’s in there?’’ Violet asked as she looked around for her father, why is it whenever he is needed he just seems to disappear.

‘’Not going to open it, not going to open it, not going to open it,’’ Violet heard Rose mutter to herself.

‘’Yeah Rose I wouldn’t,’’ However, Violet didn’t get to finish her sentence because a massive swirling mass of energy in the shape of a scribble came flying out of the garage knocking Rose over in the process.

‘’Rose,’’ Violet and Jones shouted at the same time as they rush towards the blonde, helping her up.

‘’Stay still!’’ The Doctor commanded as he took his sonic out and pointed it towards the giant scribble, until it became a hand sized ball. Then just before it fell to the ground Rose caught it.

‘’Okey dokey?’’ The Doctor asked looking at each of them in turn.

‘’Yeah, cheers,’’ Rose replied answering for all of them.

‘’No probs. I'll give you a fiver if you can tell me what the hell it is, because I haven't got the foggiest,’’ The Doctor said looking at the ball that now sat unmoving on the palm of Rose’s hand.

‘’Well, I can tell you you've just killed it,’’ Rose stated shrugging.

‘’It was never living. It's animated by energy. Same energy that's snatching people. That is so dinky! The go anywhere creature. Fits in your pocket, makes friends, impresses the boss, breaks the ice at parties,’’ The Doctor explained.

‘’So it could have just been a picture, a drawing and somehow someone managed to animate it,’’ Jones said, earning an impressed look for the Doctor.

‘’Let me guess you read that in a book?’’ The Doctor asked, to which Jones nodded in response, ‘’You and your clever books Jones.’’

-------------------------------------------------

Having no idea what the ball was or where it had come from the Doctor had decided to take it back to the Tardis to analysis it.

‘’Oh, hi ho, here we go. Let's have a look. Get out over here,’’ The Doctor called to the group who where leant up against the railing discussing their own theories.

‘’What's it say?’’ Rose asked being the first to reach the Doctor. Her eyes widened when the Doctor took a pencil and used the rubber on the end the rub out a layer from the top of the ball off.

‘’It is. It's graphite. Basically the same material as an HB pencil,’’ The Doctor explained a little surprised himself.

‘’I was attacked by a pencil scribble?’’ Rose stuttered out and then she realised Jones was right about the drawings.

‘’Scribble creature, brought into being with ionic energy. Whatever we're dealing with, it can create things as well as take them. But why make a scribble creature?’’ The Doctor pondered.

‘’Oh my god Jones you were right,’’ Rose said causing Jones to smile.

‘’Of course I was I always am,’’ Then he paused, ‘’Right about what exactly?’’

‘’Maybe it was a mistake I mean, you scribble over something when you want to get rid of it, like a, like a drawing. Like a, a child's drawing. You said it was in the street,’’ Rose explained remembering what the Doctor and Jones had said earlier.

‘’’Probably,’’ The Doctor commented, amazed at how good Rose was at deducting.

‘’That girl, the one Jones and Rose saw,’’ Violet piped up after standing quietly in the corner for a while.

‘’Something about her gave me the creeps. Even her own mum looked scared of her,’’ Rose added.

‘’Yeah she looked a little scary,’’ Jones said.

‘’Your scared over a little girl,’’ A grin formed on Violet face and she couldn’t help but giggle a little.

‘’Oh shut up,’’ He said shoving her playfully as they all exited the Tardis, they had someone to visit.

---------------------------------------------

It didn’t take long for the group of four to reach the house that the girl Jones found scary occupied. It took the Doctor
three rings of the door bell and rattling the letter box to get the girls mum to open the door.

‘’Hello. I'm the Doctor this is Rose, Jones and Violet. Can we see your daughter?’’ The Doctor politely asked.

‘’No, you can't,’’ She replied a little rudely.

‘’Okay. Bye,’’ The Doctor said with a smile, which caused the woman to become a little confused and prompted her to ask.

‘’Why? Why do you want to see Chloe?’’

‘’Well, there's some interesting stuff going on in this street, and I just thought. Well, we thought, that she might like to give us a hand,’’ The Doctor explained, nearly stumbling over his words, but luckily her caught himself before it could happen.

‘’Sorry to bother you,’’ Rose said.

‘’Yeah, sorry. We'll let you get on with things. On your own. Bye again,’’ The Doctor added and all four of them turned to leave. They’d only made it halfway down the drive when a voice called.

‘’Wait! Can you help her?’’ The Four grinned at each other.

‘’Yes, we can,’’ The Doctor replied truing around.

-------------------------------------------

Upon entering the house Violet sighed the TV was on, why wasn’t that such a surprise.

‘’She stays in her room most of the time. I try talking to her, but it's like trying to speak to a brick wall. She gives me nothing, just asks to be left alone,’’ Trish said. They had learnt her name when they’d introduced themselves properly.

‘’What about Chloe's dad?’’ Rose asked.

‘’Chloe's dad died a year ago,’’ Trish answered.

‘’I'm sorry,’’ Rose replied although by the look on Trish’s face she didn’t care for the condolence.

‘’You wouldn't be if you'd known him,’’ Violet looked over to Jones with a frown.

‘’Well, let's go and say hi,’’ The Doctor said, breaking the small silence that had engulfed the room after Trish’s comment.

‘’I should check on her first. She might be asleep,’’ Trish offered turning to leave.

‘’Why are you afraid of her, Trish?’’ The Doctor.

‘’Who wouldn’t be I mean...’’ Jones was cut off by a rather sharp elbow to the stomach; I don’t think you need telling to know who it was.

‘’I want you to know before you see her that's she's really a great kid,’’ Trish said ignoring Jones’s comment.

‘’I'm sure she is,’’ The Doctor replied with a smile.

‘’She's never been in trouble at school you should see her report from last year. A's and B's,’’ Violet smiled she could tell be Trish’s tone that she was proud of her daughter.

‘’Can I use your loo?’’ Rose butted in and with a nod from Trish she went upstairs. Although Violet had a small feeling that Rose wasn’t really going to the loo.

‘’She's in the choir. She's singing in an old folks home. Any mum would be proud. You know I want you to know these things before you see her, Doctor, because right now, she's not herself,’’ Trish explained.

‘’She sounds like a great kid and I’m not just saying that because you think she is, I’m saying it because I know she is,’’ Violet spoke giving Trish a reassuring smile, a smile that the woman couldn’t help but return.

-------------------------------------------

In the end Trish didn’t need to go upstairs to get Chloe, she came down on her own and headed straight for the kitchen. Violet, Jones and the Doctor followed as Chloe went straight to the fridge, pulling out a cartoon of milk to drink.

‘’All right, there? I'm the Doctor, these are my friends Violet and Jones,’’ When their names where said Jones and Violet gave small waves. Chloe didn’t return them, but nobody was really surprised, instead she just stared.

‘’I'm Chloe Webber.’’

‘’How're you doing, Chloe Webber?’’ The Doctor asked, keeping his voice clear and soft, hopping the tone would help Chloe to trust him.

‘’I'm busy. I'm making something, aren't I, mum?’’ Violet could almost hear what Chloe wanted to say ‘please go I don’t want to talk to you.’

‘’And like I said, she's not been sleeping,’’ Trish said giving her daughter a side hug.

‘’But you've been drawing, though. I'm rubbish. Stick men about my limit. Can do this, though,’ Violet grinned as he gave the Vulcan salute.

‘’Live long a prosper Chloe,’’ Jones joked, doing the salute as well.

‘’Can you do that?’’ The Doctor asked dismissing the fact that Jones knew the reference.

‘’They don't stop moaning,’’ The annoyance in her voice caused Violet’s ears to perk up.

‘’I’m sorry?’’ Violet asked not quite sure she’d heard the girl right.

‘’Chloe,’’ Trish warned.

‘’I try to help them, but they don't stop moaning,’’ Chloe complained.

‘’Who don't?’’ The Doctor asked.

‘’We can be together,’’ She said, ignoring the Doctor’s question.

‘’Sweetheart,’’ Trish moved to pull her daughter back and stop her from leaving the room.

‘’Don't touch me, mum,’’ Chloe snapped back, storming out of the room, ‘’I'm busy, Doctor,’’ She stated as she passed him.

‘’Come on, Chloe. Don't be a spoil sport. What's the big project? I'm dying to know. What're you making up there?’’ Violet was sure Chloe would have replied with something, but before she could there was a shout from upstairs.

 ‘’Doctor!’’ It was Rose.

Without a second glance the Doctor, Violet and Jones ran up the stairs as fast as they could leaving Trish and Chloe to follow at a slower pace, resulting in them getting to the room last.

‘’I'm coming to hurt you,’’ Violet instantly jumped at the sound of the man’s voice, it was ruff and angry. A voice that would scare anyone and it seemed to be coming from Chloe’s wardrobe, more like coming out of it. The whole structure was shaking and emitting a yellow glowing light.

‘’Look at it,’’ Rose whispered as Violet went to give her a hug.

‘’No, ta,’’ The Doctor said as he shut the wardrobe doors, which thankfully also shut the voice off.

‘’What the hell was that?’’ Trish asked once her and Chloe had finally made it into the room.

‘’A drawing. The face of a man,’’ Rose replied, shaking a little from the shock.

‘’What face?’’ Trish asked.

‘’Best not,’’ Rose stated simply.

‘’What've you been drawing?’’ Trish asked truing towards her daughter.

‘’I drew him yesterday,’’ She replied not really looking at her mum.

‘’Who?’’ Trish asked, but Violet could tell she dreaded the answer.

 ‘’Dad.’’

‘’Your dad? But he's long gone. Chloe, with all the lovely things in the world, why him?’’ Trish said her voice cracking slightly.

‘’I dream about him, staring at me,’’ Violet felt instantly sorry for Chloe and her mum, whatever that man did, maybe it was a good thing he no longer walked among them.

‘’I thought we were putting him behind us. What's the matter with you?’’

Violet wasn’t listening anymore, she had walked towards a picture, it was the picture of a boy in a union jack shirt and a familiar looking ginger cat at his feet.

‘’Wow,’’ She breathed out knowing instantly it was the cat her and Rose had been petting earlier that day.

‘’Trish, the drawings. Have you seen what Chloe's drawings can do?’’ Rose asked.

‘’Who gave you permission to come into her room? Get out of my house,’’ Trish suddenly snapped becoming upset.

‘’Tell us about the drawings, Chloe,’’ The Doctor asked, but Trish wouldn’t let her answer.

‘’I don't want to hear any more of this.’’

‘’But that drawing of her dad. I heard a voice. He spoke,’’ Rose added.

‘’No normal child can do that,’’ Jones pointed out as the picture in front of him begun to move.

‘’He's dead. And these, they're kid's pictures. Now get out?’’ Trish shouted.

‘’Chloe has a power. And I don't know how, but she used it to take Danny Edwards, Dale Hicks. She's using it to snatch the kids,’’ Rose explained.

‘’Get out.’’

‘’Have you seen those drawings move?’’ Rose asked trying to get Trish no calm down and notice.

‘’I haven't seen anything,’’ Trish declared.

‘’Yes, you have, out of the corner of your eye,’’ The Doctor tried, to reason with her.

‘’No.’’

‘’And you dismissed it, because what choice do you have when you see something you can't possibly explain? You dismiss it, right? And if anyone mentions it, you get angry, so it's never spoken of, ever again.’’

‘’She's a child,’’ Violet sighed finally Trish had come around.

‘’You're terrified of her. But there's nowhere to turn to, because who's going to believe the things you see out of the corner of your eye? No one. Except me,’’ Violet coughed, ‘’Us, I mean us,’’ He added.

‘’Who are you?’’ Trish asked.

 ‘’I'm help,’’ Violet coughed again.

‘’We’re help.’’

---------------------------------------------------

‘’Ahem,’’ Rose makes the noise as the Doctor begins to dip his finger into an open jar of marmalade. As Violet and Jones also look disapprovingly at him, he soon gets the memo and puts the jar back.

‘’Those pictures, they're alive. She's drawing people and they end up in her pictures,’’ Rose said trying to put all the pieces together.

‘’Ionic energy. Chloe's harnessing it to steal those kids and place them in some kind of holding pen made up of ionic power,’’ The Doctor explained.

‘’And what about the dad from hell in her wardrobe?’’ Rose asked.

‘’How many times do I have to tell you he's dead,’’ Trish snapped out.

‘’Well, he's got a very loud voice for a dead bloke,’’ The Doctor pointed out.

‘’Not to mention, a loud scary voice,’’ Violet added.

‘’If living things can become drawings, then maybe drawings can become living things. Chloe's real dad is dead, but not the one who visits her in her nightmares. That dad seems very real. That's the dad she's drawn and he's a heartbeat away from crashing into this world,’’ The Doctor explained as he paced around the kitchen.

‘’She always got the worst of it when he was alive,’’ Trish murmured, it was barley ardable, but Violet heard it. She felt sorry for Trish and Chloe to have to go through something, so bad that it caused her mother pain to just think about him.

‘’Doctor, how can a twelve year old girl be doing any of this?’’ Rose asked, causing the Time Lord to stop in his pacing.

‘’Let's find out,’’ With that said they all trundled back up the stairs.

---------------------------------------------

When they entered the bedroom, Chloe was sat on her bed and Vulcan salutes at the Doctor before looking over at Jones and murmuring, ‘’Live long and prosper Jones.’’

‘’Nice one,’’ The Doctor comments as he moves to sit next to her.

‘’I think I’m starting to like her,’’ Jones added with a grin on his face.

Then vary carefully the Doctors puts his fingers on the side of Chloe’s head until her eyes roll and her lays her gently on the bed.

‘’There we go,’’ The Doctor says calmly.

‘’I can't let him do this,’’ Trish protests.

‘’Shush, it’s okay. Trust him,’’ Rose said reassuring the woman.

‘’Now we can talk,’’ The Doctor said looking down at Chloe’s body and within seconds her eyes open again, but she stays layer down.

‘’I want Chloe. Wake her up. I want Chloe,’’ Jones’s eyes widened as the voice that came out of Chloe’s was not her own.

‘’That’s a little freaky,’’ Then he paused, before adding, ‘’Oh god it’s not the devil again is it, its followed us hasn’t it.’’

Rose looked over at him and gave him the ‘are you serious’ look, while Trish looked between him and her daughter with pure terror on her face.

‘’Jones, outside now,’’ Violet spat out through gritted teeth. Sighing Jones left the room with Violet right behind him.

--------------------------------------------

Violet had expected him to stop just outside the door, but he carried on going and started to descend down the stairs.

‘’I meant outside the room not outside, outside,’’ Violet called after him.

‘’I know what you meant,’’ He shouted back, as he continued to make his way down and into the hallway.

‘’Then where are you going?’’ She asked, but there was no reply he just opened the door.

‘’Jones,’’ She called again, but no reply.

‘’Jones,’’ No reply.

‘’Michael,’’ He stopped and slowly turned around to look at her.

‘’Why don’t you call me that anymore?’’ The question caught her entirely by surprise.

‘’What do you mean?’’ She asked, if he took a couple more steps backwards she was afraid she’d have to shout.

‘’I mean you used to call me Michael all the time, you know because it’s my name and then you just stopped. Why?’’ Violet opened her mouth to reply, but he continued to speak, ‘’Oh I know why because you met Joe.’’

‘’What has Joe got to do with this conversation. Why are we even having this conversation anyway, Jones,’’ Violet was confused, what was Jones getting at.

‘’You didn’t let me finish, a week after you met Joe you started to call me Jones and do you know why?’’ She shook her head, ‘’Because Joe and Jones are similar Vi, you forgot about me the real me, Michael all you could think about was Joe. You slipped up you nearly called me Joe, but saved yourself and said Jones instead.’’

‘’What are you getting at?’’ She had shrunk back at his words, they were fierce and angry.

‘’I’m saying I can’t do this anymore. I can’t stay in the Tardis because I’ll fall in love with you all over again and we both know how that ended,’’ His voice almost broke as approached Violet. A tear was beginning to roll down her cheek and he stroked his thumb across her face wiping it away.

‘’What are you going to do?’’ She asked her breath hitching in her throat.

‘’Rose said she wants to go and she her mum, so I propose we go do that, meet her mum and then afterwards we get the Doctor to take us back to La armeo de la Universo. You get married to Joe and then after all that if you still want to travel with the Doctor I’m not going to stop you,’’ Throughout the explanation he had his hand resting on her cheek.
‘’What’s the point if your not there,’’ She croaked out.

‘’Violet if something drastic happens between now and when we see Rose’s mum, something so big that changes my mind in travelling in the Tardis with you, Rose and the Doctor then your going to have to pray for a miracle,’’ With that said her let go of her cheek, walked backwards a few steps before turning around to leave.

‘’Where are you going?’’ She called after him, she stood still not sure if she had the will power to move her legs.

‘’To the Tardis, to think. Tell them I felt a little ill and needed to lie down,’’ And with that he was gone and the tears fell freely down Violets cheeks. Little did she know he was crying too.

------------------------------------------

Once Violet had calmed down she entered the house again to find Rose and Chloe’s mother collecting various pens and pencils.

‘’Chloe usually got the brunt of his temper when he'd had a drink. The day he crashed the car, I thought we were free. I thought it was over,’’ She heard Trish say as Rose handed her ' collected.

‘’Something like that can stick we you forever, it’s worse for children because they don’t quite understand,’’ As Violet spoke she realised how dry her throat was, ‘’Could I get a drink please?’’ Trish gave a small nod and Violet went to the kitchen leaving Rose and Trish to speak.

‘’Her and the Isolus. Two lonely kids who need each other,’’ Violet exited the Kitchen to see the Doctor had joined them.

‘’And it won't stop, will it, Doctor? It'll just keep pulling kids in,’’ Rose said, hopping the answer would be no.

‘’It's desperate to be loved. It's used to a pretty big family,’’ The Doctor explained.

‘’How big?’’ Rose asked.

‘’Say around four billion?’’ The Doctor then creased his forehead in confusion; he’d thought that Jones would have said something about it being so big. Then he realised Jones wasn’t with them.

‘’Where’s Jones?’’ he asked looking around the room, not once spotting the leather jacket wearing solider.

‘’He didn’t feel so well, so he went back to the Tardis,’’ Violet replied looking down and into the now empty glass she held in her hands.

‘’Well, we’ve got to get back there anyway,’’ The Doctor sighed moving to leave, but Violet didn’t.

‘’I’m going to stay here, make sure Chloe the Isolus doesn’t do anything,’’ The Doctor sensed there was another reason, but he didn’t question so instead he nodded leaving with Rose.

---------------------------------------

Jones was sat on his bed in his Tardis room, his head was in his hands and he kept mumbling ‘Stupid,’ over and over again.

‘’Jones,’’ The Voice was Rose’s and it came from right outside his door, ‘’Are you ok?’’ She added.

‘’Yeah, I just didn’t feel well,’’ He replied moving to open the door, he had expected to see Violet with Rose, but she wasn’t there.

‘’Good, anyway we just came back to see if we can find a way home for the Isolus,’’ Rose explained.

‘’Right, well good luck, I think I might sit this one out. If that’s ok.’’

‘’That’s fine, hope you feel better soon,’’ Rose finished with a smile, before turning around to leave.

‘’Thanks, it might take a while though,’’ He muttered to himself as he closed the door. Once again he was alone with his own thoughts.

-----------------------------------------------

‘’I’m sorry, I can go if you don’t want me here,’’ Violet spoke apologising to Trish as they sat on the Sofa watching the Olympic opening ceremony.

‘’No it’s fine, but can I ask you something?’’ She replied giving Violet a reassuring smile.

‘’Sure.’’

‘’Who are they to you?’’ She asked.

‘’Well Rose is a friend, Jones is...’’ She breathed a sigh of relief as someone starts to knock loudly on the front door.

‘’It’s okay. I've taken all the pencils off her,’’ Trish spoke as a concerned Rose was at the door. However, Rose ignored her and headed straight for the stairs.

‘’Rose, what’s wrong,’’ Violets face drops when she sees the picture in Rose’s hands. It was of the Doctor and the Tardis, but that wasn’t it, because Chloe had drawn the Tardis it meant Jones was also trapped. She could just make out his face peering out from behind the door.

‘’Leave me alone. I want to be with Chloe Webber. I love Chloe Webber,’’ The Isolus said, a little angry.

‘’Bring him back, now,’’ Rose demanded.

‘’Both of them, she drew Jones too,’’ Violet added pointing him out to Rose.

‘’No,’’ The Isolus said.

‘’Don't you realise what you've done? He was the only one who could help you. Now bring him back!’’ Rose shouted.

‘’Leave me alone! I love Chloe Webber!’’

‘’I know. I know. Doctor, if you can hear me, I'm going to get you out of there. I'll find the pod. Don't leave her alone, no matter what,’’ Rose finished turning towards Trish.

‘’Violet come on,’’ She added and with that both girls left.

‘’Ok, what are we looking for?’’ Violet asked.

‘’Heat. They travel on heat,’’ Rose replied.

‘’Look at this finish. Smooth as a baby's bottom. Not a bump or a lump,’’ Violet noticed the council worker from earlier and frowned as he started to stroke the freshly dried tarmac.

‘’Kel, was there anything in this street in the last few days giving off a lot of heat?’’ Rose bent down to ask the man.

‘’I mean, you can eat your dinner off this. Beautiful. So you tell me why the other one's got a lump in it when I gave it the same love and craftsmanship as I did this one,’’ Kel replied totally ignoring Rose’s question.

‘’Well, when you've worked it out, put it in a big book about tarmacking, but before you do that, think back six days,’’ Rose said.

‘’Six days. When I was laying this the first time round,’’ Kel stated simply.

‘’What?’’ Rose questioned realising something.

‘’Well, that's when I filled in this pothole for the first time.’’

‘’Six days ago,’’ Rose murmured and Violets eyes widened in realisation.

‘’Yeah,’’ Kel replied still admiring his tarmac.

‘’Hot fresh tar,’’ Rose muttered looking over at Violet, ‘’You thinking what I’m thinking.’’

‘’You bet,’’ Violet replied with a smile and both girls rushed over towards Kel’s van.

‘’I don't keep it in the van! Hey, that's a council van. Out,’’ Kel shouted as the girls climbed in the back searching around for something.

‘’Rose, will this do?’’ Violet asked holding up an axe she had found in the back.

‘’Yes, that will do nicely,’’ Rose commented taking the axe form Violet’s hands and walking over to the recently filled pothole.

‘’Whoa, wait, wait, wait. You just removed a council axe from a council van. Put it back. No, don't, wait. Put the axe back in the van. That's my van. Give me the axe. No! Wait! No!’’ Kel shouted running after the girls as the exited the van.

‘’No! You, stop! You just took a council axe from a council van and now you're digging up a council road! I'm reporting you to the council!’’ Kel screamed as Rose lifted the axe and brought it crashing down on the tarmac.

‘’It went for the hottest thing in the street. Your tar,’’ Rose stated, as Violet lifted a small glowing orangey brown rock out of the ground.

‘’What is it?’’ Kel asked as he peered over Violets shoulder to look at what she cradled in her hands.

‘’It's a spaceship. Not a council spaceship, I'm afraid,’’ Rose responded and with that they were off again.

 ----------------------------------------------

‘’I've found it! I don't know what to do with it, but maybe the Isolus will just hop on board. Hang on, I told you not to leave her,’’ Rose said as they entered the living room to see Trish stood watching the TV.

‘’My God! Er, what's going on here?’’ The Commentator spoke as the crowd that should have been in the stadium no longer existed.

‘’I don't care if you've got Snow White and the Seven Dwarves buried under there, you don't go digging up...’’ Kel burst in, but was cut off mid rant by Rose.

‘’Shut up and look!’’

‘’The crowd has vanished! Er, they're gone. Everyone has gone. Thousands of people have just gone. Right in front of my eyes. It's impossible. Bob, can we join you in the box? Bob? Not you too, Bob?’’

Violet could hear what Jones would have said ‘Oh no, not Bob,’ in as sarcastic a tone he could manage.

‘’The stadium won't be enough. The Isolus has four billion brothers and sisters,’’ Rose pointed out and yet again Violet herself following the blonde up the stairs and into Chloe’s bedroom.

‘’Chloe? Chloe, it's Rose! Open the door!’’ Rose shouted bashing her fists against Chloe’s door.

‘’We found your ship. We can send you home.’’

‘’Chloe?’’ Trish called, but there was no reply.

‘’Move, I got this,’’ Violet said pulling out her Squareness gun; she created a perfect square in the door that allowed  Rose to push the chair away that had held it shut.

‘’Chloe!’’ Rose said in horror as the girl was busy drawing the earth on her bedroom wall.

‘’I'm coming to hurt you. I'm coming,’’ Violet jumped again as the voice of Chloe’s dad taunted through the wardrobe.

‘’I've got to stop her,’’ Rose said, looking at Trish for confirmation.

‘’If you stop Chloe Webber, I will let him out. We will let him out together. I cannot be alone. It's not fair,’’ The Isolus almost seemed as if it was in the beginnings of a tantrum.

‘’Look, I've got your pod,’’ Rose said and that got her to stop drawing.

‘’The pod is dead,’’ She stated going back to her drawing.

‘’It only needs heat,’’ Rose spoke again pleading that the Isolus would stop denying her help.

‘’It needs more than heat,’’ The Isolus corrected.

‘’What, then?’’ Rose asked.

‘’I'm not being funny or nothing, but that picture just moved. And that one!’’ Violet was stunned that Kel was still with them, she hadn’t even noticed his presence.

‘’She didn't draw that, he did. But it needs more than heat, Doctor,’’ Rose said as she saw that the Doctor now stood with a picture of the Olympic torch in his hand.

It wasn’t just that, that had changed Jones had moved and was now stood next to the Doctor he help a TV in his hands.

‘’Rose listen to the TV,’’ Violet said shushing everyone in the room.

‘’Is still on its way. I suppose it's much more than a torch now, it's a beacon. It's a beacon of hope and fortitude and courage. And it's a beacon of love,’’ How did Jones know the commentator was going to say that? Violet was a little bemused, but shrugged it off; they had the answer now anyway.

‘’Love,’’ Rose whispered, ‘’I know how to charge up the pod, Violet come on,’’ The Time Lady sighed, she’s had enough of running up and down stairs, but she followed anyway.

--------------------------------------------------------

‘’Sorry, you'll have to watch from here,’’ A policeman stopped the girls in their tracks.

‘’No, I've got to get closer,’’ Pleaded.

‘’No way,’’ The Policeman replied, shaking his head at the two.

‘’We can stop this from happening!’’ Rose said giving her self confidence.

‘’Yes we come on all we have to do is think,’’ Seconds after Violet had spoken the pod begun to make a strange noise.

‘’You felt it, didn't you?’’ Rose smiled as she cupped it in her hands and moved it closer to her mouth, ‘’Feel the love,’’ She whispered.

Violet watched as the pod is launched into the air and flies straight for the torch. The sudden impact makes the torch bearer stagger a little, but he recovers quickly before carrying on.

‘’Yes!’’ The girls shout as they hug each other and jump up and down.

‘’You did it! What was it you did?’’ Kel asked coming up behind them.

‘’Rose look it’s the kids, there back,’’ Violet pointed and sure enough the missing children just appeared out of nowhere.

‘’Doctor,’’ Rose murmured expecting to see him appear.

‘’’I don't know who you are, or what you did, but thank you, darling! And thank those men for me too,’’ A man shouted towards them. Violet gave a smile back, but she was worried because like the Doctor, Jones hadn’t come back either.

‘’Where is he? And Jones they should be here. All the drawings have come to life. That means all of them. Oh, no. Violet,’’ Violet turned to look at Rose, the smile fell from her face. One thought ran across her mind, Chloe’s dad.

Violet went to follow Rose, but a voice stopped her.

‘’Violet,’’ She turned to see a slightly dishevelled Jones behind her. She opened her mouth to say something, but he didn’t give her chance his arms where already wrapped around her.

‘’I’m sorry,’’ He whispered, ‘’I shouldn’t have said any of that, I’ll stay. If that’s ok with you because if not...’’ She cut him off.

‘’It’s perfectly fine.’’

---------------------------------------------------

‘’Cake?’’ Violet smiled as Rose offered the Doctor a cupcake topped with small sliver balls, as decorations.

‘’Top banana. Mmm. I can't stress this enough. Ball bearings you can eat, masterpiece!’’ He exclaimed.

‘’Is anyone going to tell him there not ball bearings,’’ Jones whispered to Violet.

‘’Just let him have this one,’’ Violet replied, eating a cake herself.

‘’I thought I'd lost you,’’ Jones coughed at Rose’s stamen, ‘’and Jones,’’ She added laughing a little.

‘’Nah. Not on a night like this. This is a night for lost things being found. Come on,’’ The Doctor said gesturing for them all to follow him.

‘’What now?’’ Rose asked.

‘’I want to go to the Games. It's what we came for,’’ The Doctor replied.

‘’Go on, give us a clue. Which events do we do well in?’’ Rose asked referring to Great Britain.

‘’Well, I will tell you this. Papua New Guinea surprises everyone in the shot put,’’ The Doctor grinned.

‘’Really? You're joking, aren't you? Doctor, are you serious or are you joking?’’ Rose asked, not really believing him.

‘’Wait and see,’’ The Doctor replied the grin never leaving his face.

‘’Jeez,’’ Jones jumped at the sound of fireworks suddenly sounding from behind him, which caused Violet to burst out laughing.

‘’You know what? They keep on trying to split us up, but they never ever will,’’ Rose suddenly commented.

‘’Never say never ever,’’ The Doctor replied.

‘’Nah, we'll always be okay, you and me. Don't you reckon, Doctor?’’ She added.

‘’There's something in the air. Something coming.’’

‘’What?’’ She asked.

‘’A storm's approaching,’’ The Doctor stated simply.

‘’He can feel it in his bones,’’ Jones joked, but one look at Violet caused his smile to quickly disappear.

‘’He’s right, something’s coming and it won’t end well for anyone,’’ Jones gulped at Violets words. If Violet was afraid, then something big was coming and soon.

Next will be Army of Ghosts.
