Chapter 4. 'On our way'
Just like you did in the other chapters, go straight to the one you chose.

A) 'Euhm... I bring my.... myself? I can show you what I can do with a nut!' you looked around the room with a proud smile. No one returned it though. The men knew that you had never showed any interest in wielding a weapon. Most dwarves back home were surprised you even wanted to join the quest.
Balin nodded. 'Very well then, I will add that to the list. I say we have a pretty good knowledge of what we can all do on this quest. Lass, you will be mostly assigned to watching the ponies' he told you.
You nodded with a smile. Frankly, you didn't care that it wasn't seen as a difficult or honorable duty. The ponies needed to be watched and you were perfect for the job. You had little else to offer.
Dwalin seemed to be unimpressed with your words. He still kind of gave you the chills. Even now when he was sitting down with his arms on the table, not even crossed. It were his eyes.
'How is the hobbit doing?' you asked to stir the conversation in another direction.
Dwalin snorted. 'He has decided not to join us tomorrow morning. That shouldn't surprise you.'
You nodded in silence. You had sincerely hoped that he would join you. He had been the one to stand up for you when no one else dared to.
'(Y/N)?' Balin asked again. Your head shot up.
'I am sorry, what did you say?' you asked confused.
Dwalin rolled his eyes.
His brother smiled gently at you. 'Go to sleep. Take the rest and the comfortable bed for the night. It will take some months until you will lay in one again.'
You got up from the chair you had been sitting on. Maybe it was the right time to go to bed. The night was still young now, you could get some hours of sleep before you would leave early in the morning.
'Who do you want to wake you up?' Kili asked with a cheeky grin.
'No one' you said, blushing. You hurried to your room, ignoring the snickers behind you.
'Someone has hobbit fever' Kili joked.

B) 'On this quest I bring you the skills with the bow and arrow and my swiftness' you said, your tone serious.
Balin nodded and wrote everything down.
Your own kind thought it was somewhat strange to posess the qualities you possessed. It was rare for a dwarf to be swift.
They were loud, aye, and great in battle, but swift? That was like prancing and not meant for dwarves. That was a typical, dare they say it, elvish trait.
No one dared to say it out loud though. There was not one dwarf in Ered Luin who would aggrevate you on purpose. No one wanted to be at the end of your 'useless' arrow.
'(Y/N) is also quite good with a sword' Fili said, sitting down next to you.
'Aye, I have seen it myself' Kili joined in.
The younger brother looked at you with admiration. He had always seen you as an older sister. Someone he could look up to. You were the one who had taught him how to use his bow and arrow.
Thorin hadn't been against it because he thought the skill was rather useful. It always came in handy when your enemies were still far away. It could take some of them out before they could even blink.
'But axes are not (y/n)'s thing' Dwalin commented while sharpening his own two battle axes.
You chuckled. 'No, that they are not master Dwalin. They are your specialty.'
He grinned at you.
'If that is all, I would like to go to bed for now. We have a long road ahead of us' you announced.
They bid you a goodnight and you left for your room. The hobbit had been kind enough to give you your own.
The room was beautifully decorated. It gave you peace and send you into a peaceful slumber. And so began your snoring.
'Maybe the little fairy of the morning will wake (y/n) up in the morning. I am sure none of us will be able to' Kili said.
Most of them knew it was going to be a long, sleepless night.

C) 'I am going to tell stories so that everyone may fall asleep soon and peaceful' you said as if in a dream. This was something you could do like no one else. You were famous in Ered Luin for your story telling.
Maybe some, or all, of the tales hadn't exactly happened as you told them but it was fun none the less. No one ever said anything about it because your stories were just too lively and real. The dwarf that would stop you from telling stories would surely be hung by the others.
Dwalin grinned. 'Can you tell the story about that baker again, (y/n)? I have not heard it in a while' he asked you kindly.
Fili and Kili looked at each other with weird faces. It wasn't like Dwalin to ask things, let alone nicely. Usually he demanded things or glared so fiercely that he didn't have to use any words at all.
Neither of you noticed the two Durin brothers.
'I would love to, but I think I will leave for bed early today. There is a long road ahead of us' you said. Even though you wished to spend the night with D-, the dwarves, and tell stories you did have to get a good night's rest.
'Aaw! Don't be like that (y/n)! We want to hear stories!' Kili whined.
The pleading eyes quickly disappeared when Dwalin glared at him. 'Don't pressure the lass to do anything she doesn't want to do. She has to sleep and she will have an undisturbed rest. Am I clear?' he said.
The two brothers swallowed. 'A-aye master Dwalin.'
'Good' Dwalin said, sitting back down. In a softer tone he added; 'Sleep well (y/n), I will wake you up tomorrow morning.'
You send him a thankful smile. 'Thank you, master Dwalin, have a good night yourself. Boys' you added as you walked past them. That night you had the most wonderful rest you had had in a long time.

D) 'I will add cheer and playfulness to this company' you announced proudly. It was your strongest quality. Never take life too seriously and always find the positive note in every situation.
The groans that erupted from the mouths of the older dwarves was something you chose to ignore for now. Surely they would learn to see the charm in your actions.
Even if it would take some time.
Or a lot of time.
Balin looked at you sideways, trying to figure out whether you were serious or not. "Alright, I will write that down then. Just be mindful of others lass" he said, already tired.
Bofur winked at you from across the table. At least you knew that you weren't alone in your quest of epic pranks and joyfulness. Maybe, if you played your cards right, you could get him to help you with some well thought out jokes.
You grinned. That was a great idea.
A dark, looming shadow fell over you. You looked up with an innocent face to find Thorin standing next to you. He held his arms behind his back. "This quest is important, (y/n)."
You nodded. "I know that Thorin. I won't do anything to sabotage you or the quest. The only thing I will do is make sure that everyone stays on their toes" you said sweetly.
He narrowed his eyes. "I will keep an eye on you."
In front of the whole company, you pouted and stood up. "But... I was already hoping you had an eye on me. This is rather disappointing, I have to admit. Maybe I will change your mind" you said cheekily.
Before he could reply, you stood on your tiptoes and placed a kiss on his bearded cheek.
Ignoring the gasps and giggles, you turned around and walked to your assigned room. It was rather late and frankly you didn't want to be around to feel Thorin' wrath.
Maybe this time you had pushed the envelope a little too far.
You laid down in your bed with a happy grin around your lips. "This is going to be such an epic and amazing trip" you said before falling into a happy slumber.

E) 'I bring my two axes, my sword and my four daggers, I will protect the weak in this company and make sure that everyone will stay together.' You slammed your fist on the table after you were done talking.
The mugs on the table visibly trembled.
You noticed that Balin had already written it down. Apparently the list was a little predictable. You would have to change that.
Thorin, on the other hand, raised an eyebrow. "Four daggers now as well? I though you always carried a battle axe with you" he asked, curious.
Leaning back in your chair, you shrugged. "Thought about taking it with me but I already have the two axes and the sword. Want to give the orcs just a small chance and all. Otherwise it just feels unfair."
Dwalin shoved another mug filled with ale your way. "Drink up lass. I don't want to be the only one having a good time tonight."
You gladly took it from him.
"You do that while I turn in for the night, brother. We have a long road ahead of us and I need all the strength I can save" Balin announced. He waved everyone a goodnight before turning in for the night.
Other dwarves followed after him. By the time everyone had left it was only Dwalin and you who were left in the small dining area.
Many mugs of ale passed through your and Dwalin' hands before both of you undid your belts. You laid your hands on your stomache as you felt the liquid finally taking control over you. And that after only twelve whole mugs.
"I reckon we should turn in for the night" you said, hiccuping a little after. "Your brother was right, we do need our strength."
Dwalin downed his last mug in one big gulp. It landed on the wooden table with a loud bang. "Probably right lass. I am surprised to see you are still upright."
You frowned. "Upright? Dwalin, I am sitting!" Dwalin started grinning and soon you were laughing together. He clapped you on the shoulder, almost knocking all the ale back up.
"You are a good lass. Surprised to see you are still alone" he said suddenly.
You got up from your chair. "That is our sign that we need to go to bed Dwalin. You always start talking about relationships and love whenever you are drunk. Go to bed, or do I have to carry you?"
He let his head rest on top of the table as an answer. Or maybe it was just too heavy to hold up right.
"Do you need some help?" Thorin didn't wait for your answer and just pulled his old friend up from his chair. "If you carry his legs, I will carry the upper half" he suggested.
You nodded, grabbing Dwalin by the ankles. "This is probably going to be a lot of fun tomorrow morning" you said jokingly.
Thorin smiled at you. "Aye, probably."

The next morning you were up fresh and early. The hobbit was still asleep to no one's surprise.
Although Gandalf was still trying to convince Thorin that hobbits just needed more sleep and that he would surely join them, you were ordered to leave anyway.
"If master Baggins wished to join us he would have awoken at the time we told him to. We are thankful for the food but we don't need his 'burglar' skills." He almost spat the last words.
"Apparently the hobbit doesn't understand the importance of our quest" Nori said.
Dwalin growled. "He is a hobbit. Did you expect him to understand?" He turned his pony around. "We are on our own, like Dain said. I say we leave now and hope to make good ground today."
Others nodded in agreement.
The last things were strapped to the ponies and the dwarves all claimed one for their own.
You held the reigns of the pony that was meant for the hobbit. Someone had to lead the pony along with the rest of the company. You were more than glad to do it. For now.
Someone else would have the pleasure to do that another day.
Before you left Bag End and Bilbo Baggins behind, you looked back at the house once more.
The company was heading towards a corner and this was probably the last look you would get at the house. Though the hobbit had decided not to come, you couldn't help but to think;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What did you think as you looked back at Bag End?
A) "I thought that the would come with us... Despite him fainting yesterday I really thought that he would see our case is urgent. Maybe he will catch up with us later?"
B) "Honestly, I don't blame him. Maybe it isn't too late for me to go home as well... I kind of miss my books and the tea I used to brew in my own home. I can talk to Thorin about it?"
C) "The lad will probably turn up before we even know it. Like Gandalf said, hobbits need more rest than dwarves do. I am sure that he will still turn up."
D) "There was never a moment that I thought he would come with us. When we met him I already knew it was a lost cause. Now we don't have to protect a weak link in our company."
E) "Good riddens. We don't need someone in our company who doesn't want to be here. Why would we waster our food and time on him? I do wish him the best with the rest of his uneventful life."
This was the last choice you had to make before the different story/time lines will be posted in separate chapters. The first chapter posted after this will be a chapter in which I will tell you how many points you will get for the choices you made.
I will explain it all in the next chapter.
Until the next chapter!
