Chapter 3. 'The things that I will add'
Now, just go straight to the one you picked :)

A) 'I think those tree shaggers will bring us nothing but trouble. They will never allow us to continue on our quest. Did I already mention they shag trees?' you asked sarcastically. Fili chuckled. 'Aye, at least twenty times since we left home.' The cold wind was blowing through your hair and you noticed that there was someone standing below. You signaled Fili to let him know. 'Who do you think it is?' he whispered to you. Right when you signaled at him to keep his mouth shut, you heard a gruff voice say: 'When you suspect someone is eaves dropping on you, you don't give them any clue that can tell them you found out.' Thorin took a step forwards into the light. So he was the one who had been listening to your conversation. But for how long?
He turned his eyes towards you. 'May I have a word with you?' he asked softly. Your heart stopped beating at that moment. You couldn't tell if he was mad, happy, sad or something completely different. Of course you had spend most of your childhood with him, but he was as unreadable to you as he was to others. Fili patted you on the shoulder and send you a comforting smile. That meant that his uncle probably wasn't angry with you. If only he was right and you didn't walk into a trap. Thorin was patiently waiting for you to come down. 'What do you want to speak to me about?' you asked once you stood next to him. He waved towards the path leading away from Bilbo's house. 'Shall we discuss it during a walk around town?' he asked.
There was something in his voice that you couldn't put your finger on. You nodded, not sure where this was all going. Never had you taken a walk with the King before. You looked up to see Fili smiling to himself on the roof. That didn't help you anywhere.
Together you walked a small distance before you stopped near a lake. Thorin stopped and, majestically, looked at something in the distance. You weren't sure what he wanted you to do. Did he want you to start talking or was he going to start? Honestly, you had no idea what he wanted to talk to you about. He finally moved his eyes away from whatever he had been looking at, to look at you. 'You know you don't have to come with us?' he asked in a soft tone. You were caught off guard. 'I am sorry?' Thorin cleared his throat, suddenly unable to meet your eyes. 'I already respect you, you don't have to prove your worth to me by going on this quest' he explained. Your eyes widened as you realized what he was pointing at.
'You won't leave me behind Thorin! I will track the Company down and still go on this quest with you. I want to protect you and I will be there when we re-take Erebor' you said. The tone in your voice told him you weren't going to be persuaded to staying behind. He took a deep breath. 'Just make sure nothing happens to you' he said and turned around to leave.

B) 'Honestly, I can't wait to see them. Maybe the tales are right and they really are as magnificent as the stories describe' you said in awe. You had spend so many late nights studying the magical creatures. Finally you had a chance of meeting them. Would they truly be that tall? You couldn't imagine it. And frankly, you couldn't wait to see if their hair was really as beautiful as it was described in your books. '(Y/N)! A word' a gruff voice came from beneath you. Fili and you both leaned forward only to find his uncle standing there with an angry glare on his face. 'Good luck with that' Fili muttered to you. 'What was that?' Thorin asked angrily. Fili turned pale. 'Nothing uncle.' You didn't waste any time to climb down. What did he want to talk to you about?
'This way' he ordered before you even had a chance to come near him. He lead you down a path leading away from Bag End. He wasn't paying you any attention, he didn't even look back to see if you were still following him. Maybe because he knew you would be following him no matter where he went. That is, if he did at least visited Rivendell. If he didn't... Well, you couldn't promise you would still follow him if he would go around the city of elves. You did know he was angry. His whole body was radiating anger. Sometimes he could be so terrifying, no matter that you grew up with him, you still didn't quite know how he could react at times. The books you had read told you that elves were mostly happy and friendly. Quite different from dwarves...
You almost bumped into him when he suddenly stopped near a lake. He send you a warning glare. You quickly stepped a few steps back. Not sure what else to do, you put your hands in your pockets and looked down at your feet. 'I don't know what the wizard told you but we are not going to that place. We are on a quest to reclaim our homeland, not on some relaxing vacation. Do you understand that?' he hissed.
'I am just curious to see them- I... I understand my King' you said when you met his eyes. You knew the rest of the dwarves didn't understand your fascination with the other race. Only Ori felt comfortable talking to you about it. His brothers weren't keen on his fascination either, but they were willing to accept it for now. Other dwarves, like Thorin and Dwalin, simply didn't understand why you wanted to meet the 'tree shaggers'.
'I can't stop you from coming with us, and don't think I underestimate your skills, but you should stop thinking about meeting elves. They abandoned us in our time of need. Don't forget that' he concluded before walking away from you. His tone had become more gentle at the end but still stern. He thought of you as a daughter, he had made that known to you many times over. If only you could meet them once, you would be satisfied. Only once... you could do what you wanted.

C) 'Well, I don't think they could be that bad. I mean, as long as they have ale, right?' you joked. Fili chuckled. 'You always see the light in every situation don't you? I think we can use that on our journey' he spoke fondly. You smiled. It was sure going to be a long way before you would reach the mountain. You had always been a high spirited lass who could see the good in anyone. It could prove to be useful on this quest. Of course you also had a serious side over you when needed. Like, when orc's attacked you were fully focused on the battle. That, Thorin and Dwalin had taught you when you were younger. But as long as there was ale, you wouldn't complain too much. Not even when you were surrounded by elves, in an elven city, with elven food and... Thankfully you knew how to cook.
'I am sure we will be fine. There will be many challenges along the way but we have your uncle, master Dwalin and master Ori, and of course yourself and your brother. I can't see why we wouldn't make it' you said matter-of-factly. 'You seem to forget there are orc's, wargs and other creatures on our path.' You looked down to find Thorin staring at you. You waved at him. 'Hello, what a nice evening we're having. Don't you agree?' You put your pipe between your lips and inhaled deeply. Thorin looked up into the night sky. You could tell he was flustered after your answer. Most of the dwarves would run away and try to hide whenever he talked to them in that tone. 'May I have a word with you?' he asked, his tone more gently this time. You nodded and came down.
'Will you save me a desert before Bombur eats it all?' you yelled at Fili when you felt your stomache growl. The blonde nodded and went down also. 'This way' Thorin said, leading you down a dark path. The path lead you far away from the hobbit's house. It was quite a beautiful town if you liked quietness. Nothing spectaculair was going to happen here, you could just tell. Not that you disliked it though.
'What do you think about this town?' Thorin asked you, without looking at you. 'I think hobbits are very different from us. For one they don't seem to be used to any hard life. For two, they seem like the types who are quite content with their lives here' you said thoughtfully. Thorin muttered his agreement. In the distance you could see a lake appearing. Wouldn't it be nice to take a swim in there? 'The hobbit seems content with his life here too' Thorin said.
You looked up at him. 'Aye, that's how it appeared. Though Gandalf told us that he likes to go on an adventure, even though he doesn't realize it himself.' Thorin huffed. 'The wizard can say lot's of things. I just heard him say he wouldn't come with us.' A silence filled the space between you. What was this conversation leading to? 'If he happens to come with us, then I would like you to take care of him. He seems to be relaxed around you' Thorin said. 'I will, my King, that is... if the hobbit will come with us tomorrow morning.' Thorin looked at you once more before he turned around and left. 'We will see' you heard him say.

D) 'I don't think it would be a bad thing to stay in the Blue Mountains and continue making our home down there. It is a respectable home and your uncle has already earned everyone's respect... Why would he ruin that now?' you asked. You knew that you were talking to the King's nephew, but you had been friends for so long... He would know if you gave him a false answer. You were the one who wanted to stay at home and adviced the King to do the same. The only reason why you were here now was because of his nephew's. You felt the strong need to protect them because of all the times that they had saved you. Thorin had also reminded you of this. So, here you were. You would never risk your bond with your closest friends and their family.
'I hoped you wouldn't still feet that way' Fili said. His eyes turned away from you as he stared at the stars above. 'I know you never felt the need for adventure or to learn how to hold an axe or sword. But you must know that it means a lot to us that you've come. Especially since we know you have left your garden and your home behind' Fili spoke softly. You followed his gaze upwards. The sky always managed to amaze you. When you were younger, you had tried to count the stars above. Thorin was the one who had told you that there were too many. 'But why are their so many?' you asked. Thorin chuckled. 'I don't have that answer. But I do know that you are unable to count all of them. There are simply too many.' 'But will you help me to see them all?' Thorin met your eyes. 'Aye, I will.'
It was a memory you were quite fond of. The King had felt like a father to you for so many years. You couldn't leave him on his own now. No matter how dangerous this quest would turn out to be, you would stay next to him. Maybe it would be wise to ask Fili or Kili to teach you how to use a sword. Fili was right when he said you weren't really interested in mastering the skill. Most dwarves were, but you simply loved your books and your vegetables.
'We are all happy that you decided to come with us' Thorin's voice came from below. You almost dropped your pipe when you heard his voice. 'Th-thorin I-I-I' you stammered. His chuckle lightened the mood. 'Are you not mad at me?' you asked carefully. You saw Thorin shaking his head. 'We've had this conversation back in the Blue Mountains. I didn't expect you to come but you did and I am thankful for that. You are one of the few who takes this quest serious and is aware of the dangers.'
Dwalin walked out the house, making you cuddle closer to Fili. 'The hobbit has gone to bed. I don't think he's coming' the warrior growled. 'He has a name' you said from atop the house. Dwalin looked upwards to send you a death glare. You hid behind Fili. 'His name is Bilbo' Fili answered for you. The bald dwarf rolled his eyes. 'Is it important?' He went back into the house. 'We talked about this Dwalin' Thorin said to his disappearing form. He looked up at you to send you a symphatic smile before following his friend inside. 'Why does he always have to scare me like that?' you asked Fili. The former chuckled. 'Because you are scared of him. It probably makes him feel good' he explained. 'I always knew he was a sick dwarf' you muttered to yourself.

E) 'Oh, I simply can't wait to swim in their fountains! Did you already hear about their endless supplies of wine? First, I will swim in the mountains and then in their wine barrels!' you said excitedly. You could already see it happening in front of your eyes; The elves would be mad at you, maybe even furious, but that would only add to your joy. The wine from the elves was rumoured to be even better then mead. Maybe you could drink more and get even more drunk! Wouldn't that be fun for once? Fili was rolling around on the ground next to you. He couldn't control his laughter. Everyone in the company knew about your love for alcohol. You weren't a drunk, you could go without a single drop of alcohol, but you did appreciate it if it was offered. What if the elves had fountains willed with wine? Oh, Mahal.
'I would advice you to do otherwise' a gruff voice came from below. You rolled your eyes, of course he would ruin your fun. 'But what would the fun be in that?' you asked challingly. Fili had stopped laughing and was now looking from you to Thorin. He was probably waiting for the explosion to happen. Thorin folded his arms over his chest. 'We have to stay focus on the goal of this quest. Ale and wine will only cloud our minds and make us slower in the end. If you can't control yourself, then don't come with us.' And apparently that was the end of the conversation. Thorin glared at you once more before re-entering the house. You huffed. 'He doesn't have to be so mean all the time. How do you survive living with him?' you asked, lying down on your back. 'I don't know him any different. He is quite nice if you don't challenge him' Fili said, also laying down.
'He should be challenged every once in a while. Otherwise we are all too easy on him. He is the King after all' you said. Fili chuckled. 'You do know that you are like his daughter to him? I've heard him say it to mom once' he said. Maybe that was the reason why he was so protective over you. You did get yourself into trouble pretty often. Dwalin would chase you around too. You were known as a trouble maker so you understood when Thorin often asked you what you had done during your days apart.
You had never thought he actually saw you as kin. Let alone as his daughter. 'Does that mean that I have to behave myself now?' Together you laughed. 'Don't pretend like you can behave yourself. Thorin's knows it, we all know it. Except for you maybe' he ended. You raised an eyebrow. 'Do you think you have the right to say that to me, mister-I-dropped-a-bucket-full-of-warg-slime-on-my-uncle-and-pretended-to-know-nothing-about-it.'
Fili blushed. 'I didn't think you knew about that.' The stars above you were shining bright. You could really use some ale right now. Again, you were not an alcoholic. 'Do you think we are going to make it?' you asked Fili. It was silent for a long time. He propped himself up on one elbow. 'I think that if we put our hearts and mind to it that, yes, we will make it. There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to do so.' You nodded in agreement. 'And otherwise your uncle will haunt us until the day we finally believe in it.' 'Aye, he will. And so will I if you stay behind in that elven city because you are too drunk to walk. I will carry you if I must.' You chuckled. 'I will keep you on that promise.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You walked back into the house of the hobbit. Everybody was in another room to enjoy themselves. Ori had found Bilbo's bookshelves and Bifur was cooking one thing or another. You made your way into the dining room where Balin, Kili and Dwalin were seated. 'Ah, lass! We were looking for you! We are making a list so that we know what all of us bring to this company. Take a seat' Balin said. He had a long paper laying in front of him. There were names on there with specifics of what each member had to bring to the company. Dwalin had written down that he brought his weapons, his fierceness and his loyalty. You took a seat in between Dwalin and Kili. Balin looked at you, smiling and waiting. You cleared your throat. '...'
