Chapter 3

Sonic's POV

The three of us settled down on a small patch of grass just nearby the mouth of the cave we got out earlier. I let Saphie to wander all by herself at a forest but just enough to keep an eye out at her movements and other strangers that may trespass here. I didn't like the idea to left her out from my sight. I'm really this protective and sensitive about her safety, okay?

Making sure that she's alright and in high spirits, I sat and leaned next to a large greyish rock with green moss covering at one side of it. Shadow sat next to me with his legs crossed below and his arms folded across his chest. Silver sat at my opposite side, his knees pulled up close to his face and let his hands rested at his sides.

"Start explaining, Faker." Shadow finally spoke, glancing over at my direction. I knew by heart that he's still my close rival but when it comes to these kinds of situations, he sometimes joins in and be part of the discussion. I rarely seen him like that since he preferably likes to be alone most of the time or just plainly having his own time at some place who knows where.

"I agree. Who is she? What is her history? More importantly, how did you two know each other?" Silver inquired further more questions at me. He's pretty inquisitive for a time travelling ivory hedgehog. After that incident with Iblis and also the time paradox thing with little me at my last birthday, he was able to visit all of us quite often as he wished.

"Okay okay, calm your horses! I'll explain." I sighed, exhausted from all these questions ramming to my head. I let myself get comfortable first, placing my hands at the back of my head and rested next to a rock. Then I took a deep breath and let it out while staring at the fair blue sky above us. After that, I began to talk.

"Saphie's... Not really my twin sister guys." I said and glanced to see Silver looking at me with disbelief. "But you two look so alike-" "We're just twin best friends, Silvz. We may look and act alike but we're not related by blood." I interrupted him. "I only have one brother and one sister." Silver slowly nodded, getting the point of what I've explained. "I see."

"Now," I continued on, "I've met her when she first came here to Mobius. Well, for her part of the story, it wasn't meant to happen at all. Something went wrong after a tough battle she came towards to and so she came crashing down at this place." Shadow nodded in understanding and mumbled, "Like me..." I heard what he said and almost kind of related her situation before like his.

"I was still ten years old by the time I found her, all covered in ashes and burns from her crash. Just seeing her so badly injured and scarred, I had to help her out. So I brought her over to mother so she can heal then at my place to rest. My mother told me before we left was that she really looks a lot like me."

"No joke." Shadow muttered incoherently. I ignored him and resumed the story. "She had stayed with me for many months. I asked her why she didn't planned to leave and she only answered that she has no family, no relatives to take care of her. I felt bad for her even though I couldn't take care of her that often. So I let her stay with me as long as she wanted." I looked over to Saphie to see if she's okay. She's on top of an old tree, watching the nature around her peacefully.

"We became inseperable close friends after. She didn't want to be alone all the time 'cause it bothers her a lot so I let her go with me but only if she could hide herself whenever somebody I knew is around."

"Why?" Silver asked. "Because she didn't want to be among with the public." I explained. "It's not because she's shy but because she had a fear that someone may discover who she truly is."

"So is that why you hid her in this cave?" Shadow said, glancing at the large gaping hole at the side of the cliff. "Yeah." I stiffly replied. "I had to after she turned fourteen." I crossed my arms and sighed heavily as I remembered about that talk with her. "She still goes out to explore but she has her limits. She can also shrink down to size and hide among my quills if necessary."

"Oh I see." Silver nodded slightly, not sure if it is true or not. "So she knew us way back then?" "Yeah." I answered quietly to him. "She was with us all this time. From the time Shadow came here to that incident at my birthday."

Silver's eyes widened in shock. "So she knew...?" I nodded for him. He meant about my death with Mephiles the Dark. "We're bonded twins. If ever anything happens to me, either she gets angry or really depressed. She has a lot of secrets within her and all of this are written in here." I showed them the leatherbound notebook that I grabbed earlier from the stony shelves. "If you want to know, you must promise us not to tell others about it. You must swear not to 'kay?"

"If you say so..." Shadow mumbled and nodded a bit to Silver to take it. I slowly handed him the notebook with the secrets inside...
