Chapter one

Combing through many books and scrolls that the men of letters were dealing with was not fun. At least not in his book. It felt like an endless chore, something that he never really thought much about. But now he knew how his father felt with research and how his uncle was more equipped to finding out what he was trying to find. It was annoying Ezra read through an old tattered leather-bound book going through every single page of the darn thing, and nothing seemed to work.

Ezra looked at his hand yet again and saw the tattoo of the angel wings appear, it emitted a powerful aura which worried. Strange things always happened whenever he thought about the wings or what he dreamed about a month ago. He had been meaning to research more about his powers and where it came from, but that kind of disappeared when he dealt with a kitsune. Even then, his powers were growing stronger, especially the visions. Sometimes they'd show up quickly, and he'd see things in small fractions before it gave him a headache.

"There's got to be something," Ezra said to himself.

"Ezra?" he heard a voice call out. Ezra stopped what he was doing and turned to find his aunt and father entered the library. "Have you been stuck in this library all day?"

"No..." Ezra said. "I mean... I took breaks,"

"Really?" Dean asked his son. "Because from the way it looks, you've been combing through all the men of letters books, Ezra what are you searching for?"

"I went outside for some fresh air, okay?" Ezra said, flipping through the book he had in his hand. "I know you're just concerned, but there are things I need to learn. Every day my powers are growing stronger and I've been told by multiple people, some of which were enemies and others came to me in my dream."

"Wait, what dreams?" Dean asked. "And why haven't you told us about any of this?" Dean and Kristina sat down on the couch on either side of Ezra. But he remained quiet and got frustrated before tossing the book on the table and going to another shelf. "Son, you need to tell us what's going on, who spoke to you?"

"No one," Ezra said stubbornly. Silence filled the room as Kristina, and Dean stared at him, waiting for an explanation. "Its nothing."

"Well, it has to be something," Kristina said, pushing a strand of her brown hair away from her eyes. "Whatever it is, you can tell us, that's why we're here." Ezra paused, one hand on a scroll, and remained still. Knowing they wouldn't stop until he said something. He removed the scroll from the shelf, then turned to his aunt and father.

"Look, Rowena.." Ezra started. Suddenly both Kristina and Dean showed their protective side.

"How do you know that name?" Dean asked.

"Where did you hear it?" Kristina asked. Ezra bit his lip, not sure how to respond to her. "Ezra? What are you hiding?"

"Okay, okay, she spoke to me in my dreams. She's been doing that for the past couple of nights," Ezra said. "I can't get those thoughts out of my head. She said that my powers are growing and that I need to find her in 1522."

"No! Absolutely not!" Dean exclaimed before standing up. "Rowena is not to be trusted son, she only uses you and when you are no longer useful, she'll either kill you or do something to you."

"Dad! come on! If she knows something about my powers, then I need to find out." Ezra protested however, as Kristina and Dean were about to say something, the tattoo on Ezra's hand started burning. He flinched and dropped the scroll which seemed to glow a bright blue.

"What the hell?" Kristina said. Suddenly, a bright light surrounded them and dragged them into the scroll. Ezra and his father got lucky since they landed on dried green grass. But Kristina wasn't so lucky. She landed directly in the mud. Ezra groaned as he held his head and opened his eyes. The sun shone directly at him, causing him to hold up his hands to block out the sun.

"Who turned the sun on?" Ezra complained, pushing himself up from the ground.

"Ezra, I swear whatever you did, I'm going to ground you when we get back," Dean threatened. "Wait where's your aunt?"

"I'm over here!" Kristina exclaimed. Dean and Ezra stood and raced over, only to find Kristina covered in mud.

Kristina did not like to travel by scroll. It was the worst way to travel. It also didn't help that she landed in the mud while her nephew and brother-in-law were completely dry. "Ezra Allen Winchester!"

"Um... Aunt Kristina," Ezra said approaching her. "You have a little something..." Ezra made a gesture in front of his face.

"Gee I wonder why," Kristina said. "Oh yeah, because I landed in the mud!"

"On the bright side," Dean said a smirk appearing on his face. "At least its sunny, the mud will dry," He continued. "Think of it more like a spa day," Kristina glared at her brother-in-law before kicking him in the shin. Dean flinched and stepped away from her rubbing his leg. "Okay, violence unnecessary."

"Well, if you seem so cheerful, Dean, why don't you swim in the mud, or better yet, a pigpen!" Kristina yelled stepping out of the mud. Because of the situation, she was going to have a little talk with Ezra later about touching things he didn't understand.

"Where are we?" Ezra said, attempting to change the subject.

"I don't know, but there better be a shop nearby because I will not walk around covered in mud." Kristina complained.

"Well, we should start walking, and Kristina, next time you decide to take a swim, maybe land in the water." Dean suggested.

"I'll remember that Dean.." Kristina said as the group started walking in search of a village.

"Where's the road?" Ezra asked. "And where did everyone go?"

"I think we're in the past, Ezra," Kristina said. "The best we could do is follow that path and see where it leads," Since they didn't have any options, they walked down the path, following it and hoping they'd find a shred of life in a town. After a long walk, Kristina began complaining about how crusty she felt and that the mud dried. "If we don't find a place soon, I am going to jump into a river and clean myself off!"

"Aunt Kristina, it's not that bad." Ezra said. Kristina rolled her eyes.

"Really? You didn't land in mud." Kristina responded.

"Guys." Dean started but his son and Kristina weren't listening.

"I didn't do it okay. The scroll glowed, and we got zapped here." Ezra said.

"Ezra! Kristina!" Dean yelled, causing them to turn their attention away from each other and to Dean. He was looking at a small village. Some hovels had smoke coming out of the chimney, showing that there was at least life in the town.

"Well that was easy," Ezra said. "What are we waiting for? Let's go into town and get some new clothes." Together, they walked into the village to search for a shop.
