Chapter 2:
Life walked through the street, Sorrow gliding along on her right, eyes sad and far away as usual as he kept pace with her.
Life let out a long sigh, about ready to cry.
The death of the boy had torn her apart and now, she was affecting all the passersby with a large sense of doom and hopelessness.
Things like a life being snuffed out should not still impact her the way they did.
Things like those still disturbed her though.
They still manipulated her thoughts and emotions and damaged the strings of those around the accident or occurrence.
Glancing around, Life watched as an old man sat at a cafe table, awaiting his tea.
The connection he had with her was strong and Life smiled. He would stay around for a while, unless Fate decided to remove him in an unnatural way.
Walking past the cafe, Life watched as Sorrow vanished.
Joy swooped down to join her, his happy grin sending a shiver of satisfaction through her body.
Hope stepped down onto the ceiling of a building and proceeded to skip along and keep pace, his smile serene and peaceful.
Life stopped at an apartment, waiting for the old lady who lived in the ground floor to come out and get her newspaper.
The frail woman walked out slowly and bent to pick up the article.
The string that connected her with Life was limp and weak, already severed in quite a few places and ready to come undone with even a little tug.
Life called for Peace and stationed the quiet girl at the woman's door.
When Death came knocking, which he would soon, Peace would make the transaction painless and without Worry.
The kind woman deserved that much.
Passing the apartment, Life smiled at Purpose who'd taken to dancing overhead on the windowsills and trees.
"Quickly," Life's voice enchanted the other manipulators into listening in attentive silence, "We must have our word with Fate for the day."
The friends she worked with nodded.
They gathered together in a group, sending out the waves they needed to stabilize the flow of emotions and occurrences for a period of time, they turned to each other and waited for the summoning.
"Next."
The Entity in power waited for the next soul to appear.
Sentencing and sending each life-form to their afterlives, things would get rather crowded in just a few minutes.
A smile beautified His face when he saw the form of a dear friend, "How was your time on Earth?"
The soul shivered, unable to take in the sheer power and majesty filling the vast space he knelt in, "Blessed."
Another smile spread across his face, "Well done."
The life form shook into a new form before entering a great light.
The angels around the room bowed in respect.
A course had been completed.
The journey of a life had ended in beauty and perfection.
Transgressions had been forgiven by the Love of a Creator and the wonderful friendship with the Entity in power had sealed his place in the afterlife.
Death, Life and Fate had little to actually do with a course that a soul took.
Their own desires dictated their lives and decided whether or not they would go on to command their destiny.
"Next."
As another being took form, the Entity in control nodded, "Death, you have much to do today."
"Yes, my Lord," The man in the long, flowing black cloak bowed, "I will be on my way."
He left the room, a movement of hand commanding the escort of Fear, Pain and Sorrow, his usual companions.
It was a shame that humans grew to love their existence on Earth so much.
It always scared them to leave life...
The man who took away lives, stepped down from a large, glowing white, balcony.
Paradise awaited many.
It was too bad they were too bent on staying in a place that served as a temporary term of existence.
Fate floated down ahead, having received his notes for the day from the Creator.
Touching down, Death made his way to a particular apartment.
Noticing Peace waiting at the door, he waved for his other companions to leave for the moment.
A twitch of his lips indicated a smile.
How nice of her to be so thoughtful.
