Chapter 2: Choices
Y/n's POV
Kunou and I have been walking through the city for a little bit. During that time, she told me a bit more about her encounter with the Red Dragon Emperor and his friends. I find it odd how there's a new war between several supernatural factions and yet we haven't been thrown in it yet. Then again, we did go into hiding-.
"Are you sure we can't take a train?" Kunou's voice broke me out of my thoughts.
I look down and saw the young Youkai and saw her have an annoyed face. I was about to question her, but I remember shortly after I agreed to help protect her, I said we shouldn't take any transportation.
I nod. "If we did, then the Fallen Angels might attack again. We would be trapped in a small, populated area. We can't risk our or others' safety."
"..." Kunou stares at me for a moment before nodding, probably understanding the situation we're in.
"How far away did you say your place is again?" I ask, trying to make sure I had time for this.
"Its a couple of hours if we walk the whole way. But it's only an hour if we took a vehicle."
"..." I sigh. Greaaat.... now I get why she would wanted to take a train or something instead of walking. I know if we took a vehicle, we could end up being trapped and risking others' safety, but I don't plan on spending all day doing this shit. So it's a tough decision to make: Risk others or risk being in the open?
I felt felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I quickly grab it to see who texted me. Luckily it was Luna. She sent me a message saying where the address for the meeting was being held at.
'Better be the right one this time...' I thought.
I text back, pretty much saying I might be a bit late to the meeting. And not really surprising to me, I almost instantly got a reply from her.
"What happened? Are you alright?"
I roll my eyes playfully a little, humored by her worries. She never really cared for my kind, so why now? Whatever. I shrug it off and explained what happened, what I'm currently doing and why. After, I shove my phone in my pocket.
The two of us continue to walk for a bit longer in silence. That was until I heard Kunou began to hum some sort of song. Not much of a music person, so I don't really know what she's humming. But I didn't bother asking as I need some time to think. I don't know where exactly I currently am, where I'm going, and where the meeting is being held at. So when this is all over, I may need to rush to the location. But-.
A foul scent raids my nose. I stop walking completely, feeling strange. My heart practically skips a beat as I felt my body suddenly ready to fight. I frantically sniff the air to find out what it was, but just as quickly it invaded my nose, it was now gone.
'T-the Hell was that? Why did my body suddenly act up?'
"Are you okay, y/n?" I barely heard Kunou say over my thoughts.
I slowly turn to her but said nothing. I saw her walking up to me with a confused gaze.
"I-I..." I tried to say something, but couldn't. An image of a pair of red eyes hiding in some fog fills my mind.
I heard a low growl as the image fades. I felt my head began to spin, making me put a hand to my head as I stumble back a little. I felt like I was about to pass out and loose control, but luckily the feeling was for only a moment. I shortly regain myself as I felt my body relax.
I look down when I felt a pair of small hands grab my arm. "Are you okay?!" Kunou shouts with a worried look.
"I-I'm fine." I lie. "Just...had a small headache. It's gone now."
"But you looked like you were about to pass out. Are you-?"
"I said I'm fine!" I bark, trying to make her stop worrying about me.
It looks like it worked. Except I saw Kunou flinch back in fear. She probably didn't expect me to yell at her. I sigh yet again. Good grief.
"Sorry..." I try to apologize. "It's just...it's been a long week for me, alright? I tend to act like this when I'm stressed. I didn't mean to yell at you."
"..." Kunou slowly relaxes, but still looks a little afraid.
I frown a little whilst scratching the back of my head. Damn...I'm a dick sometimes, huh? I walk up to Kunou and gently pat her head, confusing her. She was about to say something, but I spoke first.
"I promise not to yell at you anymore. And I promise no one is going to hurt you as long as I'm around, got it?"
Kunou nods again. I smile a little as I began to walk pass her. "Come on, lets go." I motion with my shoulder.
Kunou reluctantly walks with me. Knowing she was by my side, I began to think back to the strange scent. Now that I think about it, I may know what/who its from. But I hope I'm wrong. Otherwise, we will have serious problems ahead of us...
To be continued...
