Chapter 9 ( Small Edits)
Iris could feel the vehicle they were in start to slow down. It meant that they were arriving. She could feel her heart beat against her chest, the anticipation was killing her. She gave one more glance at Cain, he gave one back. She let herself take a deep breath as she collected her thoughts. 'Iris, calm down. You have the element of surprise on your side. The enemy hadn't been prepared for an assault like this. You have had training for several months now with fire arms and practice with your camera. You have people you can trust won't kill you at a moment's notice. You're fine.'
But even then, the feeling of dread couldn't be shaken off. Why were they even being called in so soon? The first group was supposed to infiltrate them from the inside while they closed in on them. Something had to have gone wrong. She shook her head, she didn't need to start questioning and questioning herself or the plan. Even if the first group messed up, Cain's ability to kill plant life would destroy the forest that surrounds the town. Hell, it was destroying the plant life around them as they drove by. This shouldn't be that difficult to get them at least exposed. Then again, they did have anomalies, many of them, so that might be able to minimize the damage.
Iris was snapped out her thoughts when the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. She was about to ask the people in front what just happened before their truck was suddenly smashed over onto its side, smashing Iris into the side of the metal contraption. She let out a few curses as she felt glass from the now broken windows scratch and cut her arms and hands. Iris managed to crawl out of the truck just in time to witness Able grabbing the driver and impaling them on his sword. Iris's eyes widened with horror as she hid behind the truck to avoid getting shot at by the enemy soldiers.
This was her chance. She couldn't cower in fear. Fear leads to hesitation, hesitation leads to nothing being done, and that led to people dying.
She grabbed her Polaroid camera and peeked around, quickly taking a few different shots of the battle field before her. The white flash and the accompanying noise were louder and brighter than she wished but she had no control over that. The camera then dispensed the photos, which Iris grabbed, inpatient. She began counting down the seconds it would take for the actual photographs to show.

The photographs finally managed to show itself from its blackened state, showing her what she had captured. She immediately went to work, her hand disappearing into one of the photographs as it appeared on the other side of the field. From the other's time perspective, they wouldn't have known what had hit them until they saw what appeared to be a levitating disembodied hand floating around with a gun, by the time they realized that, however, it was already too late. She shot two of the enemy agents square in the head before firing out at the agents that were closest to the truck she was hiding behind. The mysterious organization's agents dunked down to cover as they began to shoot back, making Iris retract her hand in order not to get a bullet planted in it. She looked at her photograph again as it played out to her in real time.
She studied in intently, watching where the BP agents were going, where they were reorganizing themselves. She let out an uneasy smirk, seeing this as an easy pickings, but soon that smirk went away when she realized something.. Able wasn't in the photograph. From the angle she shot it in, she still would've been able to see Able, who at the time had jumped off the truck and was attacking her fellow task force members. Where did he go-
Iris felt something suddenly grab her by the back of her shirt and slam her against a nearby tree. She let out a yelp at pain as her back made forceful contact with the tree as she her eyes looked up to see who her attacker was. Her eyes widened in horror as Able looked down at her with those haunting grey eyes of his.
His eyes seemed to scan her for a bit, first her face, then her camera, then her photograph that she dropped when Able grabbed her. His eyes lit up with recognition as he quickly connected the dots.
"Iris." His deep voice spoke, as if testing to see how well it rolled of the tongue.
Iris glared at him as she brought out her pistol, shooting him dead in his eye, Able stumbled back, a snarl coming from him as he held his eye socket. Iris ran back a bit, making some space between her and the murderer. Able looked up at her, a hand moving from his eye socket to his side as he summoned a sword.
"Iris.. How long has it been, 7, 8 years?" He questioned more to himself than to her. He then let out a chuckle.
"Lets see how much you've truly grown in the last couple of years."
Able charged at her, sword in hand, in which Iris barely had enough time to get out of the way. She landed a few more shots at his chest and head as she began running. She pulled out one of her photographs, looking at them desperately for anything that could help her. She saw in one of the BP agents throw what appeared to be a grenade. Thinking quickly, she reached into the photograph and grabbed the explosive device before withdrawing her hand and chucking the grenade at Able.
Able automatically caught the grenade, not realizing what it was until it, quite literally, blew up in his face. It destroyed his left arm, and part of his face, but he wasn't even slowing down. In fact, a crazed smile was spread across his lips as he tackled Iris, bringing her down to the ground. Iris felt his sword plunge into her leg, she let out a scream, trying to struggle away, which only made it worse as the sword was promptly shoved deeper inside her flesh.
Able stared at her a moment, before smirking
"You've grown since last time we've met. Before you cowered at the thought of killing a man, and now? You didn't even hesitate killing those men back there." Able spoke, Iris eyes had both an enraged yet afraid look about them. Iris then suddenly began staring in his direction. Able titled his head slightly, before realizing that she wasn't looking at him.
He felt something hard collide with the side of his face, pushing him off of Iris. Able snarled and pulled the sword out from Iris's leg and slashed at the person that dared to attack him. Both of them stumbled backwards, but when Able looked down to see a long, deep gash in his chest, his eyes lit up with rage
"Brother.." A voice that Able hadn't heard in a very long time called out.
Cain looked as his brother, an unreadable look on his face. Able seethed, how dare he show his face to him. Able didn't respond, he just began swinging his blade at his brother, slash after slash, cut after cut. Cain didn't move, he simply sat there and took the blows targeted at him. He would flinch and groan from time to time, just because he couldn't receive damage, doesn't mean he couldn't feel it himself. By the time it was over, Able was unrecognizable. Blood soaked the dirt around him, his body, mangled and and bloodied. Cain could see several of his organs, or what remained of them. A portion of his head was missing, exposing the brain matter in his skull. Even still, Able was still trying to attack him, slow and sluggish, yet still somehow strong, he lunged out at him once more, with Cain sidestepping him. He grabbed one of Able's own swords and stabbed him through the abdomen with it, pinning him down to where he was.
Cain knew it wouldn't hold him there forever, but it would do for the time being. He softly approached Iris, inspecting the wound on her leg
"It's bad, I know.." Iris muttered, Cain nodded, there was no point in sugar coating what's clearing in front of them. He could only hope it wouldn't have any future consequences.
Iris looked around, the forest that surrounded them had decayed away greatly because of it, she could see what looked to be a town in the distance. She smiled a bit, at least something good came of it. Now they knew for sure where the Black Petunia base is. Without the cover of the greenry, they were out in the open. They were vulnerable.
Iris and Cain's Radios went off "Retreat, I repeat, retreat, they have us outnumbered! We have a rescue helicopter coming soon!"
Cain looked at Able, who was already starting to get up. They would have to deal with Able at a later date, even in his damaged state, they were in no longer prepared to take him on should he rise back up, let alone continue their siege on the base, not with their now limited numbers and their supplies in the trucks being destroyed by Able.
Cain quickly got Iris and carried her on his back as he began making a dash towards where this helicopter was landing. He looked behind him, to see what remained of his fellow Alpha 9 agents running along with them, quickly boarding the helicopter and making their escape.
Iris was taken to the back with the medical staff to treat her leg injury. Cain himself, just sat there in his seat, taking in a deep breath. The agent he interrogated lied about their numbers, he said that this base in particular wasn't heavily armed. This should've been a takeover. How wrong were they. Cain looked around, doing a head count in his head. Half of Alpha 9 were dead. They weren't ready for something like this yet. Cain shook his head, he couldn't dwell on the dead, he had to make their sacrifices worth it.
Now that they knew exactly where they are, he would image that air strikes would now be very effective. Then again, they aren't trying to go on a genocide, that would be the GOC's immediate course of action. With their knowledge of anomalies and the multitude of them being held there, it would greatly enhance the research of the Foundation. And with Iris's photographs, spying on them from a distance wouldn't be difficult in the slightest.
Cain also knew that they were planning on getting new recruits anyways, so the issue of their numbers would be shortly answered, and from what's he's heard, he believed another anomaly was being considered being put into Alpha 9. He believed it was SCP 4818, "Leora" was her name before being brought into foundation custody. He would have to meet with her along with some of the higher ups before she's officially introduced into the Mobile Task Force team, but from people has said, she would make a good addition to the team.
He snapped out his thoughts as he heard Iris's yelps of pain in the back. He went to go check up on her, forcing all of his thoughts to the back of his mind.
[A/N: Happy Thanksgiving!]
