Chapter 7 [Edited, Again]

[Author's Note: I wanted to alter a few scenes to this just to make it flow better in my opinion, I hope you enjoy these few changes]

The last couple of days could only be described as hell for Amber's task force team (Solstice 4 AKA Dire Call). They thought that Able was harsh on them the first day, it just gave them a taste of things to come. It was commonplace to come back from training with bruises and aching muscles that didn't subside until days afterwards. It made the elite task force, some of the best, fight to prove themselves worthy of keeping their positions... Or their heads if Able was particularly pissed at them for whatever reason. It didn't help that Able was beginning to grow bored, having been denied the glory of combat for so long, he became even more ruthless in his training strategies. Many, many people had walked away with injuries, ranging from sprained muscles, all the way to broken bones. However, this day was different.

Task Force Solstice 4 found themselves lined up in one of the larger rooms in the facility after their daily 10 mile run. All around the room, they found many different types of objects scattered all across the floor. There were spears made from sharpened wood and shields made from what looked like wood and animal hide. Other things that could be found were more unconventional things like dumbbells, rope, a bat, etc that could be used as weapons but certainly wouldn't be as efficient. Able stood in front of them, looking at them intently, inspecting even the littlest emotions on their face.

"Today, you will choose an opponent and you will fight them with whatever is closest to you. In battle, you may not always have your modern weapons by side and have to use whatever you can get to survive. There are no rules, you will fight each other until one of you can't fight you any longer. Do not show them mercy, in this moment, they are your enemies, not your comrades." Able spoke.

He didn't miss the slight smirk cross upon Amber's lips, the smug look on her face that basically said "that's it? This is hardly going to be a training exercise."

He narrowed his eyes at her before allowing Solstice 4 to quickly grab a partner and choose the first weapon that they met eyes with while Able stood to the side to supervise the fight.

Amber found herself facing off against David. He grabbed a wooden bo staff while she had grabbed a spear. She gave him a little smile, twirling around the spear in her hand.

"Don't worry, I'll try not to bruise you up too badly. I'll even pretend that you're knocked out cold to save yourself the embarrassment of getting your a$$ handed to you even more." She said, David just smiled back at her.

"Assuming that you win, of course." He commented back in return

"Bold of you to think I'm simply assuming." Amber said before charging at him with the spear. David quickly blocked it with his staff before headbutting her, leaving her stumbling backwards holding her head at the throbbing pain in her skull.

"Bold of you to think this was going to be as easy as that." David replied simply, amusement sprinkling into his words. Amber just gave him a friendly glare before dodging a strike of his staff.

Able watched the agents fight each other, seeing how they could hold themselves in battle. He was satisfied when he saw his chosen elite task force agents were competent in combat. He even shouted some words of praise to Agent Jefferson for an extremely well angled kick in Agent Wilson's ribs, leaving her winded for a good moment. But what really caught his eye was Amber and David's fight. Specially, how Amber handled herself. Her moments were hard to track down. Her dodges were fluid like, coming to her so easily and quickly, it seemed for a moment that nothing could touch her.

Even so, David was proving himself competent as well. Everything seemed calculated with him, every movement he made was thought out beforehand. He was a observant man, catching Amber slipping up and capitalizing on it when he could. David landed a few good blows on her, with one time smacking her hard on the back of the head with his bo, leaving her on the floor for a few seconds before getting back up for more. Able simply stood there as he continued watching with slight interest.

Amber let out a heavy breath, having made some distance between her and David. They were both beaten up a bit, nothing they couldn't handle, but enough to where they would definitely be quite sore afterwards.

"Given up? Feeling a bit tired?" David lightly quipped, holding his bo firmly. Amber let out an unintentionally loud laugh at her friend.

"Given up? I'm not even halfway done with you yet. In fact." She then threw her spear away to some unknown section of the room, and then grabbing a simple yet thick rope. "I bet I could beat you with this." She motioned towards the rope.

David was taken aback for a moment, before rolling his eyes at her.

"Your funeral." He said before making a swing at her.

As for Able, he couldn't believe she would purposely throw away her advantage like that. In battle, that type of arrogance would easily get you killed. He noticed how her dodges became more predictable, a bit more lazy, as if she felt she didn't need to put in her all into it. She was getting cocky, and it showed. She was getting hit far more than before, and with the force behind David's hits, was enough to ensure it wasn't a fun time, with one expert strike leaving her on the floor. She quickly rolled away from a second hit before she felt herself being yanked upwards by the legs and being slammed onto the rock hard ground onto her back harshly. She began to get back up before her face was met by David's fist, bashing her head back onto the floor with a bit of a bounce.

David began growing concerned when Amber didn't get back up, her body just laying there, unmoving. After a few moments of this, he began lightly nudging her with the staff.

"Hey, Amber, get up."

He was greeted with more silence. At first, he thought she was just tricking him. But when he noticed that her breathing had begun to slow down, he crouched down to her level, lightly shaking her shoulder.

"Hey.. Amber, Amber, are you alright? Do you need-." He was cut off when, in a swift moment, Amber was behind him, the rope was wrapped around his throat and she began pulling on it. He immediately got back up and began struggling, his hands clawing and grasping at the robe, he began trying to shake her off and ramming her against walls. She didn't let go, once she managed to get decent footing, she kicked the back of his leg, forcing him down on his knees as she began going tighter.

He quickly tapped her on her leg, signalling to her that he's been beat. She immediately let him go, leaving him gasping for breath as he unwrapped the rope from around his throat. After wheezing for air for a minute, he finally spoke.

"Damn it, Amber. You can't scare me like that. Thought I had busted your skull open." David said with frustration yet a bit of relief in his voice. Amber chuckled to herself as she offered him a hand, which David accepted, pulling himself up from the floor. He massaged his now sore neck, hissing a bit when his fingers danced around a particularly sore area.

"What you did was foolish, Amber. Your hubris nearly cost you your victory" Able interrupted, Amber just looked at him with a smug smirk.

"It seemed to have worked out for me in past, so I guess it's ok to be a little prideful. Besides, I've beaten you, even if you don't want to admit it." She said. Able let out a laugh at this.

"Have I not established this already? You never truly defeated me. You had to rely on that device that lulled me to sleep. It was your only chance of salvation from my blades. You may call it mercy, I call it cowardice that you merely had to wait and use a machine to bring me down instead of getting those results from combat."

Amber grabbed her own bo staff before tossing Able another staff that was lying around, which he caught with ease.

"Then let's get this settled right here and now. About time we put this theory of yours to practice, don't you think? You know what?" She then took off the remote bracelet that controlled the chip and tossed it to David, who looked at her in disbelief. She knew that the chip didn't activate itself during training so she wouldn't be able to use the excuse of "it turned on automatically." Not that she would've, but she wanted to prove a point.

"I don't even need that silly thing either. I'd have to give you some chance to win, after all." That snide comment made Able's blood boil .

"Are you f*cking suicidal, Amber?!" David yelled. Of course she had to enrage the already rage filled Able that wanted nothing more than to put her head on a spike. At this point, the rest of the task force had stopped whatever they were doing to not so stealthily watch.

"Dramatic much?." Amber dismissed before readying herself.

Able swung first, Amber barely had enough time to block with her own staff as wood bashed against wood. Able didn't wait, he continued bringing down blow after blow, with Amber struggling to keep up. She had forgotten how strong and fast Able was, that, and the fact that he wasn't exactly human either. She managed to strike back with her own hits across the face, head, and chest, with it doing pretty much nothing to him. She tried to move out of his way, to dodge his merciless attacks but it was like he knew what she going to do and where She was going to move. Maybe that's why he had been studying her fight with David. Or was She just being more predictable?

She really realized that this wasn't the best idea when she went to block Able staff, only for him to break her staff in two with one clean swipe. She improvised, using the two sticks to attack Able, striking him good across his eye. He grabbed her arm when she went for another hit and began twist. She almost let out a cry as she struggled desperately in his grasp. Thinking quickly, she used her other hand and stabbed Able through his bare foot with the broken side of what used to be a staff. He let out a loud grunt of pain as he let go of her, reaching down to his foot and grabbing the stick, ripping it out of his foot with no effort.

He began to charge at her when Amber turned around to run away, not going to risk getting tackled. She ran towards a wall, using her momentum, she ran up the wall and then jumped off it, intent on giving Able a Wall Roundhouse kick. Unfortunately, he grabbed her leg in mid air and pretty much tossed her across the room. She let out a loud yelp as she crashed into the wall, landing on her hands and knees as Able slowly stalked towards her. Soon enough, Able was standing right in front of her. He lifted his staff above her head, intent of delivering the final blow to knock her out.

That's when Amber pulled out a decent sized rock that was laying by her and bashed Able's kneecap. She didn't waste any time getting back up, yanking Able by his long black hair and forcing his face to her knee, in which she promptly kneed him straight in the nose with all her might. He fell backwards to the floor, more from the force than the actual pain. His nose was only slightly bloodied. Able began to get back up when Amber quickly stopped this by stomping his... Err. Junk. Not to mention that Amber was wearing combat boots, it made for a very painful scene to behold.

Able let out a loud howl of pain as he held his manhood in agony. She then stomped on his diaphragm several times, leaving him damn near breathless. So his body did obey basic human structure besides from his other anomalous qualities. She took this opportunity to get on top of Able while he was on the floor. A clean jab to the bundle of nerves that was located right behind the ear with the same rock Amber used on Able's kneecaps had his vision blurred. At this point, Amber was aiming for weak spots that would exist in any humanoid structure. She didn't care what Able was, if someone hits you in say, the neck, that would definitely disorient any victim.

And the plus side, knowing how durable Able was, she could be as merciless as she wanted without worry of Able dying. After all, a mere rock would not kill him, but it might be able to knock him out. She kept on bashing him in the head, the neck, anywhere that would be able to knock him out while also keep him dazed to ensure that any attempts to trash around or retaliate would be to an minimum. Though it would be a lie to say that she was almost on the wrong side of a attempted punch or kick or a sword that, at best, would've ended with her with several broken bones.

Though at one point, Able kinda, froze up, Amber couldn't describe it. It was like Able was near the brink of unconsciousness but still aware. He seemed so tense and alert but yet so unaware, like he wasn't even there.Sh e didn't mistake the look on his face. His eyes were wide and his face, was filled with a cocktail of emotions that Amber herself couldn't pick up on all of them. But she was sure that she could see rage in his grey eyes.

Once she was sure that Able had stopped moving, she stood back up, her heavy breathing filling the room. Amber turned her back on the murderer, her bruised face meeting those of her fellow task force members. She let herself breathe for a moment, before smiling.

"And that, my friends, is how you beat-" she didn't even have time to process what happened. All she knew was that Able's hand wrapped around her neck in a death grip one moment and the next her head was colliding with the ground with great force as Able slammed her head into the ground with violent force.

She tried to get back up only for Able's foot to stomp on her lower stomach, nearly making her vomit from the force of it as she barely managed to let out a scream. Able crouched down over her, summoning a blade and pointed it towards her face.

"You've lost." He hissed out, in any normal case, he would've just straight up killed someone for losing a challenge with him. However, due to his predicament, he knew he couldn't. But he would definitely do with teaching this haughty woman in front of him a lesson. He slowly moved his blade to her mouth, leaving a small scratch on her face with his sword, making the smallest beads of blood spill.

"Give me one reason why I shouldn't cut that tongue of yours off." He said darkly, his voice didn't even sound human. A hand forcing Amber's jaw open. It also pulled her face closer, so he could see the fear in her eyes. He felt her body tremble despite Amber's best attempts to not show any sign of the pure terror that was going on in her brain. The look on his face, something about it wasn't normal. That wasn't just the face of a very angry man, there was something far deeper. Like she had awoken something that was better left undiscovered.

At this point, the rest of Solstice 4 was about to activate Able's chip when Able's walkie talkie went off.

Command! Contacting Solstice 4! We need assistance right away!

Snapping out of whatever state he was currently having in an amazing display of self control that hadn't been described before in any of the articles about him Amber had read, Able picked up the device from inside his toga (made from Amber's shirts in the guest room that he couldn't fit.) He knew how they worked, despite it being 10 years since he's used one back in the days of Omega 7. He recognized whoever this was as a member of another task force that he never learned or cared to learn the name of.

"What is it?" He asked , responding to the desperate man on theother side of the walkie talkie.

"The Foundation! They've discovered us! We need assistance urgently. "

Able got off of Amber, a sick smile forming across his face. Finally, after so long, he'd finally be given the blood spill that he was promised. As the rest of Solstice 4 quickly got on their field uniforms, David quickly ran to Amber.

"Jesus Christ, do you need medical assistance!? Can you see straight?" He worried, his hand lightly holding up her head.

"Go on without me. I'll join you later, I'll be ok.." She muttered.

"Are you sure?" David questioned. Amber nodded as David gently let her head back down and left to deal with whatever crisis was afoot, leaving Amber on the floor, in pain and basking in a pool of her bitter defeat.
