Lee was about to enter Lee's bakery when she bumped into King. He looked good and a bit older— that probably had to do with the stubble on his lower face—and a bit tired.

He turned to apologize to her, but smiled when he saw it was her. "Lee, just the girl I was looking for."

Lee laughed. "King, the man who fell of the face of the earth and returned to the planet to greet us human again, how are you?"

"I am good." His eyes twinkled. "Can we go in?"

"Yeah."

King opened the door, waited until Lee entered, then he followed her into the warm and cozy shop. The air was getting colder, thanks to the fast approaching winter. Lee wore a blue turtleneck sweater underneath the black coat she burrowed from Chris. She made a mental note to take some clothes along with her today since she spent more time at his house.

Rachel met Lee halfway into the room and swept her into a bone crushing hug. Lee winced but allowed the girl to hug her to her heart's content; if it'll help her stop shaking as she was doing at the moment. Annie also joined in the hug, her eyes were thankfully dry this time, because Lee was sure to cry if either of them began the water works.

They pulled away from each other with relieved looks on their faces.

Rachel said, "How are you, Lee?"

"I'm fine, thanks to the both of you." She patted their cheeks affectionately. "I'm sorry for not coming in for three days and not calling you, too."

Annie shrugged. "It's fine. Rachel and I were updated everyday by your boyfriend to assure us that you were fine. We also kept the place running. The only problem we had was the number of people wanting to know how you were."

"Sales increased too," Rachel said. "So many people kept coming in to ask about you, and they wouldn't leave until they'd bought something too. I'm just so happy that you're fine."

"Me too," Annie echoed.

"Thank you so much, girls." Lee hugged them once more. "I have a guest, can I get a cup of smoothie and cake? I'm just so hungry."

"Coming right up." Rachel started towards the kitchen. "Annie ask the gentleman what he wants."

Lee shook her head fondly at the girl's retreating back before heading back into the bakery to join King; he was seated by the front window of the shop. Few people sat in front of the place, but Lee loved the view.

"Did something happen?" He asked when she was seated across from him as Annie left to bring his order. "I couldn't help but over hear what your friends were saying."

"Something did happen, but it's all water under the bridge now." She waved her left hand in dismissal. "How have you been?"

"Like I said earlier, I've been better." He grinned at her. "You, on the other hand, are glowing. You look so happy and sated at the same time."

"I am happy and sated. It feels so good to just relax, and not worry about tomorrow."

Annie returned with a tray that held their snacks and drinks. She left after setting everything up. Lee couldn't help but notice the glances exchanged between Annie and King. She smiled secretly. King shouldn't be too hurt when she told him about Chris.

King's eyes trailed the girl until she disappeared into the kitchen. When he turned and met her eyes, he shrugged sheepishly. "She's beautiful."

"You shouldn't be saying that to me. Aren't you trying to get me to go out with you?" She raised a brow at her as she sipped her Four Seasons Sundae shake.

"About that." He took a bite of the Golden Chiffon cupcake. "I'm smart enough to realize I don't stand any chance against whoever he is. If you were into me, you would have called me the next day. You weren't even into the kiss we shared that night. Your mind was totally elsewhere."

Lee could only gape at him. So he'd realized that she was stringing him along, and decided to take matters into his hands by stating the obvious?

She didn't hide her relief as well as she thought did, because King laughed.

"I know what a pain in the ass it is to be asked out by a man when you love someone else—especially if you were setup on a blind date with said man. You wouldn't want to hurt his feelings."

Lee beamed at him. "I like you already, King. Yes, you're right. There's someone I am seeing currently and it feels as if this is going to last."

"You love him already."

"Yes. I am not sure if he feels the same way, yet." She went on to explain how Chris treated her, but was smart enough to leave out the sexual parts.

There was no use poking at a healing scar. King may feign not being hurt but deep down, Lee knew he was a bit hurt. "I see myself spending the rest of my life with him, if he'll have me."

King twirled his fork in the air for few minutes, dropped it on his plate and leaned back into his chair with his arms folded across his chest. "You should talk to him."

"We talk."

"By talking to him, I mean you have to ask him if he feels you will be together for a long time, where he sees the relationship in the future. Talking helps a lot." He sighed. "It was one of the reason my ex girlfriend left me. We didn't communicate enough."

"I'm sorry," she said. "I am scared about him not feeling the same way."

"That's one of the problems affecting us humans today: fear. Fear would hold you back, Lee, instead of letting you achieve your goals. The funny thing is, ninety-nine percent of our worries don't even happen, but because we're too afraid to take risks, we miss good opportunities."

Lee hummed.

"Talk to your partner." King finished his cake and drink, then got up after retrieving his coat from the back of his chair. "I've got to go."

Lee got up too. "Thank you for stopping by, King. I hope to see you around more."

"You will." He shrugged his coat on after dropping enough money to cover his bill. "When you see that man of yours, tell him I said he's a lucky man and he better not fuck it up or I will come after him."

Lee laughed. "I will." She hugged him. "Thank you so much, King. You can stop by anytime, you're family now."

His gaze darted to the kitchen. "See you around."

"You too." Lee sank into her chair with a grin. Who'd have thought she'd find a friend in King. The guy even backed out before she told him about Chris. Men like that were rare.

"What's she grinning about?" Sutton asked as she sank into the chair King vacated earlier.

Lee looked up to see her friends drag chairs over to her table. The only person missing was Lark. Lee missed the girl.

"Beats me," Millie said, setting up her chair beside Lee while Rainy sat beside Sutton. "Probably has to do with Chris."

Rainy's wink was downright lewd. "It has to do with Chris. Hell, I'd smile every time if I had a guy like that in my life."

"Who is this Chris, Lee?" Sutton raised a brow. "Why is it that I am always the last person to hear about your current relationship status?"

"Because you're busy loving up your husband and preparing for the arrival of Sutton Junior," Lee quipped.

Sutton shuddered. "I am not naming my child that. Don't change the subject, Ledia Arden. Who is Chris?"

"Her new boyfriend and bed partner," Rainy said as she snatched Lee's drink and downed it all in one gulp. "Lee, what's with this smoothie you're drinking in the middle of the day?"

"Yeah, you hate Four seasons." Millie wrinkled her nose at the drink. "You're even glowing. Chris' cock does wonders after all."

The ladies giggled while Lee rolled her eyes. "Really, Millie? You do know your babies can hear what you're saying, right? Imagine if their first word was cock because they heard their mother say it."

Now Sutton rolled her eyes. "Millie's baby isn't even solid yet and my baby can't make out what I am saying. If her first word turns out to be cock, I will blame you."

"Ladies," Rainy waved her hand. "While I love all this talk about Lee's love life, I am very hungry. Would anyone like something?"

"I want two of the Blueberry Streusel Cobbler and a vanilla shake," Sutton said as she patted her stomach. "Junior is very active now."

"Just water, please." Millie shook her head. "The thought of eating or drinking anything aside from water makes me nauseous."

"Figures," Rainy muttered. "Lee?"

"Another cup of this shake and the cake Sutton requested."

Rainy cleared the table and disappeared into the kitchen.

Sutton sighed. "Who is Chris, Ledia?"

"He is someone I've been seeing since the beginning of this month." She pursed her lips as she contemplated about telling her sister the truth and in the end, she decided fuck it. Sutton deserved to know the truth. "I met him through a dating Agency in SoHo. Before that I pulled a one night stand with him."

"Ah!" Sutton exclaimed.

Lee narrowed her eyes at Sutton. "What's Ah?"

"The ever present tradition." Sutton giggled. "I pulled a one night stand two times in a row after I broke up Jake."

"Don't remind about that dick," Millie said. "I can't believe he asked Lee out when you came home from college for thanksgiving."

Lee nodded. "We've met our share of bad eggs of the male species, sure. So Chris and I are winging it. We've gone on dates, fucked like bunnies in heat, had heartfelt talks." She sighed. "We like each other."

"A lot." Rainy added as she returned from the kitchen with a tray of goodies. She laughed when Lee tore into her cake with gusto. "Girl, you must be really hungry."

"I am—" she said around a mouthful of cake. "—very hungry."

"The way you're plowing through that cake as if it's the last supper says it all." Sutton rolled her eyes. "Carson says to greet you and tell you he misses your weekly casseroles and desserts. I'm guessing Chris is the reason why we haven't seen you in two weeks?"

Lee's smile was apologetic. "Sorry."

Sutton shook her head. "Don't apologize, Ledia. I am so happy that you're putting yourself out there again. I saw King on my way in."

"We're friends now."

Millie clapped her hands like a seal. "About time! He doesn't stand a chance against Chris."

"That's like comparing Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio in their teens. The difference is so clear." Rainy smacked her lips together. "Besides, who wants vanilla when there's chocolate?"

Lee rolled her eyes. "King is good looking in his own way." She grinned. "I think he has a thing for Annie."

They all cooed.

"Good for him," Rainy said. "He needs a sweetheart like her."

"Lee," Sutton glanced around the table, meeting everyone's eyes. "I heard about what happened in the alley. I'm so sorry."

"I was shaken up a bit, but Chris helped me bounce back in no time."

"You should see a therapist," Sutton suggested, but bit her lower lip at the glare her sister threw her. "Let me guess, that's the fourth time you're hearing this?"

Lee nodded and said, "Yes. And I will tell you what I told them; when I feel like I am slipping down the rabbit hole, which I am clearly not, I would see one."

"When was the last time you spoke to daddy?"

Lee nibbled on her lower lip, a frown formed on her face when she realized that she hadn't spoken to her father nor visited him this month. "I will go to his place tomorrow morning."

"He's worried about you, you know. He said he tried your cell two days ago, and you weren't answering. Just make sure to see him."

Lee nodded. For few minutes, nobody said anything as they ate their cakes and sipped their drinks. Then Millie broke the silence with a worried look on her face.

"Ladies, yesterday on my way to the mall I saw a black sedan trailing my car. I didn't think much of it until I saw the car drive by my house this morning. The driver slowed down, grinned at me, then gunned off."

Rainy gasped. "I also get the feeling of being watched. There's this short, fat guy that always appear on the trial I take when I jog in the morning. I've never seen him in the neighborhood until now."

"Carson complained about a dark SUV that's always parked across the street from our place every night since the beginning of this week. We called the police to complain, but they said couldn't do anything unless the guy commits a real crime." Sutton rubbed her arms. "I feel that we're being stalked, but what I don't get is why it's happening to all of us at the same time."

Worried, Lee bit her lip. "Can you do me a favour by not always being alone? I'm getting a bad vibe about this."

"Okay." Millie nodded. "I'll tell my husband. We'll keep an eye out."

"You also have to be careful, Lee," Rainy said. "We have no idea about who this people are, and I'd like to think that the attack in the alley wasn't a coincidence."

"We'll be safe," Sutton said convincingly, although the worried lines around her lips gave her away. She was also worried.

Lee rubbed her arms with her palms in attempt to ward off the goosebumps that formed at the thought of being followed. What if Rainy was telling the truth? What if that attack was staged to lure her into a trap?

She shook her head.

Nothing would happen to anyone she loved, Lee prayed. Maybe it was a coincidence and they were all being paranoid.

Wanting to lighten the mood, Lee said, "Girls, I will be meeting Chris' family tonight and I need to look my best." She reached for the big shopping bags under the table. "I need your help."

Sutton grinned. "Sounds like a plan. I've got nothing better to do, anyway. If we're dolling you up, then we'll do in style. First, we're going to the spa. Then we'll do a quick detour to the salon."

The suggestion was met with nods of agreement and grins. They trailed out of the bakery after clearing their plates, laughing and twittering.

When they got to the parking lot, Lee saw a SUV with tinted windows pull onto the road leading to the uptown. She tired to keep her face free of worry, but her heart didn't stop pounding.

They were truly being stalked.

A/N:

Hi beautiful people, another chapter bites the dust. I can say we are halfway to the end, but I don't know.

The story seemed to be taking a life of its own. 😂😂

QOTC: Do you feel King backing down for Chris was the right thing to do?
