Day 3 challenge: Have sex twice in a day.

"You're late, Lee," Millie said as Lee rushed through the throng in Fresh bites. She settled next to Rainy with a sigh.

"Sorry, sorry," Lee panted breathlessly, "had an emergency at the bakery."

"Did your hunky guy have a hard time letting you out of his lair?" Lark snickered.

Lee glared at the laptop where the image of her friend greeted her. Lark waved at her with a sheepish smile. A green gooey liquid concealed her face from view, so that only her eyes, nose and lips were visible.

Lee asked, "What's that crap on your face?"

"How dare you call this wonderful face mask crap?" Lark gasped in mock outrage. "You wouldn't know facial care if it bit you in the ass."

"Why am I here on a Wednesday afternoon?" Rainy asked with an eye roll that would have made the best actress out there proud.

"Honey, you have got to get out more," said Lee, shoving an uneaten bowl of tapas away from her. "Why does everything in here tastes like regurgitated dog vomit?"

"It's protein only," Millie explained helpfully.

"This is protein? I thought it was insect repellent." Then she picked up an empty champagne flute and waved it threateningly under Rainy's nose. "Excuse me, lady planner, refills badly needed, please."

"Oh, you are so sweet!" Rainy replied, delighted. "You really think I could pass for a planner? Because they're only, like, twenty-one or something."

Millie rolled her eyes. "There are also older planners, Rain."

Lark chortled. "God bless young beauty, that's all I can say."

Rainy patted her hair. "Stay cool, my sisters, cute guy alert. You know that Walmart manager I told you about? Here he comes, so just act natural, everyone."

That had precisely the opposite effect as they all did 180-degree neck swivels to see who she was talking about.

"Too butch-looking for you, darling," said Lee.

"What do you mean, too butch?"

"I mean, not your type. Not the Knight in shiny armour type of guy. He's got the rough look going for him. Probably a cowboy."

"Oh, please, it's not like he's smoking Marlboro, so he's not cowboy." Rainy snapped. "Don't all cowboys smoke Marlboro?"

"Hey, I just don't want you to go out with someone and for people to think you met in a police custody for an overnight arrest—"

"Don't bother finishing that sentence, Ledia," said Rainy, a bit miffed.

It may sound as if they were about to have some spat, but that was just the way they sparked off each other.

Suddenly filled to a burst with her recent activities, Lee saw the moment of silence as an opportune moment to air her dirty laundry. "I have news."

"So do I," said Lark.

"So do I, but let Lee go first," said Millie with typical niceness. "Let's talk sex, baby."

Lee took a deep breath, then exhaled heavily. "So, we all know that I am with Chris, my one night stand slash challenge partner."

They all nodded.

"On Monday, I went over to Sutton's place for our family dinner, and it turned out she invited someone else for dinner too. His name is Kingston Martin, he's a friend of Carson's and my sister set us up on a blind date. Long story short, I am also attracted to him, even though he's a bit of an asshole, but he apologized. What do you think?" She asked hopefully.

The silence alone should have alerted her.

"You have got to be taking the piss," said Lark scrutinizing her. "Are you seriously telling me that you're attracted to two people at the same time? So, are you going to call Chris and then say—what? 'I'm sorry, but I want to fuck you and this other guy, any suggestions on styles?' What the fuck, Lee?"

"It's not like I am doing it intentionally."

"Of course not. It's normal to wake up one day and decide to want two men fucking you at intervals. It's so normal it's an everyday thing." Rainy's on her high horse now. "Face it, baby, Chris is your soulmate. Whether you like it or not."

Okay, maybe not the reaction she'd hoped for, but she'd plough on. "Thanks very much, one divorce. What do the rest of you think?"

"Oh, honey," said Millie, clocking the hurt look on Lee's face, "I know you're only starting to come out of your shell, so it'll be a little difficult for you to choose a partner. But don't you think Chris is better than this Kingston?"

"You've changed a lot, Ledia." Rainy sipped her wine.

"Yeah," Lark said, "ever since you broke up with He-whose-name-shall-forever-remain-unspoken.’

They all made gestures of sticking their fingers down their throats and throwing up, at the mere hint of the name Lark had just conjured up, which Lee gamely chose to ignore. Not the time, not the place.

"Apart from him, I've been pretty much single. Except for those few horrible dates."

Rainy started to chortle. "Do you remember that guy you went on a blind date with who turned out to be a SEAL?"

"That just shows that I've been brave. Imagine seating through a conversation about explosives and guns. I wanted to punch the douche's throat in."

"If soap opera's has taught me nothing," Millie gently interrupted, "It's that the man of your dreams always turns out to be the guy you least expect."

"If I was married to Gerald, I'd probably say the same thing," said Lark. "Look, we all know you long to be with a man—"

"No, I've been with men. That's not what I want. I want to be married. Sorry if this sounds as if I'm whinny, but I want a husband. Look, just say I live to be seventy, then I've already lived almost half my life alone. I'd love someone to share the second half with, that's all. Yes, it's about having kids before it's too late and all of that, but it's the little things too. You know, just. . . someone to share breakfast with in bed on a Sunday morning and, I dunno. . . Someone to go through the triumphs and victories of the day together. Someone to hug at the end of a rough day. Someone to banter with over silly little things."

"Well, that won't happen when you're having trouble deciding between two men, anyway," said Rainy. "Unless you make up your mind about who you want. I'm sorry, sweetie, but face facts, you're going to have to ditch one of them. I still think you should choose Chris. Like they say, The devil you know is way better than the angel you just met."

Just then, a tall, good-looking, hippy guy, who looked and dressed like he had a proper job, approached Rainy. "Hi, beautiful," he said confidently. "Was just wondering if I could buy you a drink?"

"Fuck off," she said, without even looking at him.

Raine could be a bitch when she wanted to be. The girl was a menace when she wanted to be, but was loving any other day. Just don't piss her off or you're getting her full pheromone effect. The poor guy skulked off without even a backward glance in their direction.

Suddenly Lee got all defensive. It was all okay for Rainy to act that way because she always attracted the good type of guys, unlike Lee who attracted the heartbreaker's group. It was as if she had a sign on her forehead that said, 'Heart break is welcome here'.

She had no lethal Lee pheromone.
Nor could she help feeling that Chris and King was her last chance at finding a steady, healthy relationship.

"Well, you did introduce me to Chris, what with your schemes and all. I also met King through introduction. Why would Kingston come along just when I found Chris? Doesn't that tell you something, about. . . I don't know. . . how Chris and I may not work?"

"But, Lee," said Lark gently, "You have such a fantastic life as it is. Try walking a few miles in my shoes and you'll appreciate just how great you have it. I don't have a man servicing my ancient vagina, it's so bushy down there."

Millie groaned. "TMI, Lark."

"What I am trying to say is that you're lucky. Chris is a great guy, I mean, look at how much you're glowing. You're even getting back in shape."

"Yes, those who are in a triangular relationship are so lucky."

They all roar laughing, but she wasn't trying to be funny.

"Come on, ladies. I don't know why it is, but deciding on a partner is just so easy for some people, but to me it's like climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro."

It was as if fate was trying to mess with her, see how much she could take before she broke down. Or changed her sexuality. There was her sister having the time of her life with her husband. Millie also had a perfect husband, Just that she was yet to conceive. Lark and Rainy were single by choice. Lee may not be able decide on both men yet, but one thing was for sure: She'd get her partner before the year ended or die trying.

If both men didn't work out, Lee was going to go on Lesbian walking tours. Or swing for her team, the other team be damned. She'd leave instructions in her will that her headstone was to be engraved in marble with the phrase: ‘Here lies Ledia Arden, loving sister and friend. She may have died single, but she did try searching for her Mr. Right and tried Mr. Left since the former didn't work out.'

"Well, I think she shouldn't blow the both of them off yet," Lark said.

They all turned to look at Lark, intrigued. Lee had fully expected her, of all people, to be against the whole thing.

"I mean, just look at you, Lee. In every other respect, you're completely and utterly at the top of your game. You're so beautiful, I used to say at your back that you're one of the undiscovered beauties of New York City. You're like the statue of liberty; ugly at first sight, but it becomes more beautiful the more you stare at it."

"You're comparing her to the statue of liberty?" asked Rainy.

"I am trying to be complimentary, Rain. Just look at her, she's a SILF."

"A what?"

"Oh, please, do none of you watch porn? A Sister-I-love-fucking. If Lee was played by a Hollywood actress, it would have to be Julia Roberts, minus the red hair, of course."

"She's fifty-something!" squealed Millie.

"Can I finish? Julia Roberts twenty years ago, in pretty woman. You know, when she was young and gorgeous and had the long, shiny hair and that ethereal, dreamy thing going on. Devastating combination."

"You only chose her because we both have wide mouths," Lee said.

"Not true. Lee, I'll only say this once, mainly because then it's time to talk about me, but you're talented, you've got a fabulous bakery that would grow bigger with time, a stable career,  two men vying for your attention — one very beautiful and successful — well, put it this way, what did you spend last Saturday night doing? Baking cakes? Taking orders?"

"No, I was busy having an enema."

Now Rainy was cackling. "Oh, for God's sake, look! This other guy is called Kingston Martin? Why would you want to date someone whose name sounds like Aston Martin but do not own one?"

"Shut up, Rainy," said Lark. "I think Lee should be friends with him. It's been so long since she had any action, aside from the one she's getting now. Besides, how do you know a car is good if you don't test drive it? You want people to start thinking that she's ALID?"

"What's that?" Lee asked innocently.

"A lesbian in disguise."

Lee turn to Millie . "I will give you five Shoot The Moon cupcakes if you change the subject right now."

"No! No way, it's my go!" Lark said. "Lee had her spotlight and I haven't even told you guys about this hot, thick mocha pole I slid down yesterday."

"Can you all stop the trashy talk for a minute?" Millie said, taking a deep breath and pausing for dramatic effect. "I don't mean to sound priggish or anything, but there's an expectant mother in your midst."

"What?! Oh my God!" Tears squeezed out of Lark's eyes as she jumped up and down her bed, making kissy faces at Millie.

Rainy and Lee squealed, almost going ultrasonic as they smothered her in hugs.

"Give her one for me," Lark said, after she got her glee under control. Her eyes were still shiny though. "I'm so happy for Gerald and you, sugarplum."

"I know," Millie sniffed.

Rainy retrieved a napkin from the box in the middle of the table and handed it over to her.

Millie wiped her wet face, then said, "Gerald was over the roof when I told him. His mother has been to our house eight time this week, checking up on me and doing the chores. I feel so pampered and happy."

"As you should be." Lee sniffed. "It feels like everything is finally changing."

The ladies nodded in agreement.

"Shame on me, I should have guessed the minute you ordered OJ,"said Rainy, sounding a bit choked. She rarely cried. "I am sooooo happy for you, sweetie, I feel like I'm in a movie or novel. Does anyone else feel not just happy, but Hollywood happy now?"

An hour later, as she dressed for her date with King, Lee thought about Millie. And Gerald. And their perfect life and their perfect unborn child. And how lucky they both were.

Right there and then Lee made up my mind; something she seemed to be doing a lot these days. She had  absolutely no idea what the coming months would bring, but she was certain about one thing: she would get her man and get married to him.
