It was Friday and Cassie and all her friend were gathered at her house for their usual Friday tradition. She had asked them to meet at her house so that she could take them to a special surprise venue. Almost everyone was there, they were seated in her living room patiently waiting for the arrival of the always unpunctual Phoebe.

Cassie received a phone call and she checked her caller ID excited to see Caleb's name pop up.

"Hey idiot" she chirped. "what do you want"

"You sound awfully happy to hear from me" he said sarcastically.

"Why are you calling? We don't insult each other till evening, that's the deal we made"

"Well I'm calling to tell you that I'll be home for Christmas" he said, and then she squealed excitedly "I thought you didn't miss me" he laughed.

"Shut up" she said playfully "ou guess what I'm wearing" she said, looking down at her shirt.

"Cassie I know I'm hot and all but we're not supposed to be playing such games"

"Eww you moron, I'm wearing my worlds okayest sister shirt"

He laughed uncontrollably for a while which made her gag "you know, I got the writing on that shirt wrong" he said as soon as he stopped laughing.

"What do you mean?" She crunched up her eyebrows and read the shirt again.

"It should say Worlds best sister" he said seriously.

"Awww Caleb, get back here soon so I can give you a hug"

"Don't worry I'll be back in no time, and make sure Tamara is at our Christmas diner" he ordered.

She rolled her eyes at him "of course Caleb, bye, gotta go, can't wait till you get back"
She was expecting him to say bye back but he dropped the call instead, she stared at her phone in disbelief "moron" she muttered as she slid her phone into her purse. The guys were talking about random topics but she noticed Tyler was a bit distant, she couldn't shake off the feeling that he was still hiding something big from her. She got up and moved to the empty space beside him.

"Hey" he smiled as he took her right hand in his.

"Hey" she smiled back "are you alright?" She asked worriedly "you seem a bit off"

"I'm fine, every now and then I think about my dad, it's hard to recover from losing someone you love" he said sadly.

"I'm sorry, anytime you feel like you need to talk I'm always here Tyler, always"

"I know" he smiled as he placed a tingling kiss on her knuckles

"So how's Peter holding up? He seemed pretty much destroyed at the funeral" she asked worriedly.

"I think he has it the hardest" he said with a sigh "he was never able to make peace with our father and now my mum is still trying to get close to him, our family is just rough at this point and my sister wouldn't stop crying."

"All it takes is time" she said squeezing his hand.

"My mum wants Peter to move back in with us but he already has a family and he can't, he's moving closer to us though and we'll spend Christmas together"

"That sounds like a reasonable enough plan" she said "hey Tyler?"

"Yeah"

"Is there anything I need to know? anymore big secret?"

He waited for a while and took in a huge gulp before saying "no" She had read so many deception books and since she was studying his facial expression closely, she could tell he was lying, but she didn't push it. She just hoped that whatever secret he had wouldn't be something that will pull them apart once more.

After another five minutes of meaningless chatter, Phoebe walked in "I'm here!" She sang in a high pitched screechy voice that made them all put their hands over their ears.

"Phoebe I keep telling you, you can't sing" Jesse said.

"Shut up Jesse" she joked.

"What took you so long" Danny asked.

"Hair, makeup, outfit obviously" she said with a twirl.

"Alright now that the queen is here lets go" Cassie clapped her hands and shooed everyone out.

"So what's this mystery place you're taking us to Cass?" Tucker asked.

"You'll see when you get there, just follow my car" she said.

Tucker, Tyler and Jesse all rode in Tyler's car which Tucker drove, while Cassie, Danny and Phoebe all rode in Cassie's new car, her grandfathers old Volkswagen beetles car.

"Cassie I can't believe you're making us ride with you" Phoebe whined as she took a seat at the back.

"You guys are my best friends and you have to pass through the ride of shame with me"

"I really did think your father was just bluffing" Danny said.

"So did I, but here I am riding this thing" she said flicking the car ", but he loves me to much to let me ride in this for long. I hope he changes his mind before school starts in January"

The drive was filed with them singing to any song that came up on the radio, both the songs they knew and the songs they didn't know, they just goofed around and had fun to the loud music. Cassie looked through her mirror to see the guys trailing closely behind them. Tucker was driving with a scowl on his face, the lack of knowledge of where he was driving made him incredibly impatient.

They soon arrived at Cassie's mystery venue, Irene's bakery. They all got out of Cassie's car and after a minute Tucker parked right beside them.

"You have got to be kidding me" Tucker yelled exasperatedly "your mystery place is a bakery? Why didn't you just buy stuff and bring it over to your house or something?"

"Shut up Tucker" Cassie rolled her eyes and pulled him by the arm into the bakery. They were all taken aback by the blinding pink colour everywhere.

"Look Tucker it's your favourite colour" Jesse teased as they walked in, and they all laughed at Tucker.

"A guy wears pink socks once and he's labeled for life" he grumbled.

"Stop being such a baby" Phoebe teased as they all walked over to the counter. As soon as they reached the counter Tyler's eyes widened in shock "Irene?" He asked surprised and as soon as he spoke, Irene looked up from the magazine she was dissolved in, she hadn't even noticed them enter.

"I know you" she said punting her index finger at Tyler "I know you" she repeated I just can't figure out where" she said as she stepped out from the counter and walked closer to Tyler. The rest of them just stood there in amazement at their exchange of familiarity and Tucker let out a whistle, he couldn't keep his eyes off Irene.

"I'm the kid Rose was always with, Peter Woods little brother" he said. "But I'm not so little anymore though"

"Yes, yes you're Tyler" she smiled as she ran over to hug him "you're all grown up" she cried as she touched his face tenderly. "You bring back so much memories, Rose loved you so much. You were like her little brother"

"Rose was amazing" he reminisced "I miss her"

"Me too," she said sadly "Could you help me tell your brother I'm sorry. Even if he was a complete ass, I think he suffered the most"

"I'll be sure to tell that ass what you said" he joked.

"You guys should find a place to seat and I'll get us cupcakes " Cassie announced, they all went over to a circular setting of a hot pink sofa with a pink table at the centre. Jesse dragged Tucker,pulling him out of his daze.

"So what will you like?" Irene asked as she walked back to the counter.

"I will like six rose cupcakes please" she smiled.

"I was hoping you'd say that, you'll have them here?" Irene asked and Cassie nodded. "Would you like some to go too?"

"I'll love that, I guess it wouldn't hurt if I gain a few pounds from eating your delicious cupcakes" Cassie joked. She watched as Irene placed all the cupcakes in a tray and then they were handed to her, Irene also packed some to go in a box and placed them on the counter.

"Thanks" Cassie smiled and then she picked up the tray and box from the counter, she was about to move but then she turned back around to look at Irene. "What was Roses favourite colour?" She asked curiously.

Irene let out a sigh "Pink" she smiled melancholically "she was obsessed with pink."

Cassie looked round at all the pink in Irene's shop "why are you still holding on to Rose? It's been ten years already. I know she was your best friend but you'll need to let go eventually"

"Rose never really told me about her affair but I knew, I was her best friend and I was the only one who really knew about the affair. How do you think other people got to find out about it?"

"You told them?" She gasped.

Irene nodded her head in shame "I didn't think I'd hurt Rose, I didn't like the person she had become, all those guys changed her. I didn't want them around her, I thought I was looking out for her. I let the news get out anonymously, I'm the genesis of this whole mess" she cried.

Cassie had no idea what to feel, in a way Irene was the cause of all her heartache but at the same time, she knew that she had no ill intentions. She only wanted Rose's boyfriends to find out and dump her, unfortunately things took another turn. "You shouldn't stop your life because of one mistake, I put my brother in jail but because he loves me, he forgave me, I'm sure Rose loves you and she knows your heart, she wouldn't want you to suffer"

"I've never felt like I deserved to live my life, I let the news get out and somehow Brady found out. Knowing her killer has been found has put me a little at ease" she said, as she wiped her tears away with a serviette.

"We can't go back in time and fix our past mistakes but we can make sure the future is worth looking forward too. I think you should start by repainting this place. Let go of Rose and live your life"

"Thank you Cassie" she smiled "you're a smart kid and the cupcakes are on me, come over anytime you want"

"No I can't, I got them for free last time" she said, she reached her hands into her purse to pull out the money.

"Cassie no" Irene said in a stronger tone "take this as my way of saying thank you, I'm not taking no for an answer"

"Thanks" Cassie smiled "and the next time I come here I hope I don't get blinded by pink" she said and then she walked over to where her friends were seated. She placed the cupcakes in the centre table and took a seat.

"Cassie I don't think you remember, but roses are evil" Phoebe complained.

Cassie rolled her eyes "I was scared one of you will say that" she said "roses are pretty flowers, that's what they were before Brady turned them into a danger signal. Just because one person used something for evil doesn't mean that thing is evil. We should start seeing roses for what they are again, beautiful flowers, not death signals"

"You're right" Phoebe smiled "we can't let what they once symbolized haunt us"

"We should make a toast" Danny suggested.

"With the cupcakes?" Tucker asked incredulously.

"Yeah we should" Cassie smiled and got up. She picked up the tray and handed everyone a cupcake.

"Let's have a special toast to our misery" Tyler said "we'll say the craziest thing that has happened to us this year, or the craziest thing we've done this year"

"Perfect" Jesse said "this year has been crazy."

"I'll start" Tucker offered "I cheated on the most amazing girlfriend I'll ever have" he said and Phoebe looked away shyly.

"I lost my best friend" Jesse said, and they all wore sad expressions on their faces.

"I almost got killed" Danny said

"I lost my best friend" Phoebe said "thankfully I have her back" she said and she hugged Cassie who was right beside her.

"I helped a murderer and I paid my fathers assassinator" Tyler laughed bitterly.

"I sent my brother to jail and I helped a killer without knowing" Cassie finished off.

"To misery" they all cheered and they rose up their cupcakes in the air and took a bite.

"Boy, this misery sure is delicious" Tucker said and they all nodded in approval.

"Damn these cupcakes are good" Jesse complimented and then he swallowed the whole thing.

Once they were all done eating, they chatted for a bit and then they all headed back to their cars.

"Guys there's one more place we need to go" Danny announced "just follow me" he said.

"Where are we going?" Phoebe asked.

"When we get there you'll see" he said and then Cassie tossed her car keys over to him.

Once again, they played random songs on the radio. Tucker was still grudgingly following them. None of the girls really bothered Danny about where they were going anymore.

They soon got to his 'surprise' venue and everyone was both shocked and mad to see where he had brought them to, school.

They all got out of the car and Tucker was the first one to complain "what sort of messed up day is this? First Cassie takes us to some pink place and now Danny's bringing us to school." He complained, but he was the first one to enter he building.

"Why are we here?" Jesse asked.

"Just follow me" Danny said.

They all stepped inside the school and waited for Danny to lead the way, they all followed him and he stopped right in front of Cassie and Phoebe's lockers.

"Months ago, I made a promise here with Cassie and Phoebe, but after everything that's happened this year, I think we should all make the same promise"

"You have got to be kidding me" Tucker whined.

Danny ignored him and continued "we made a promise that this year will be our best year ever, no matter what happens we'll always stick with each other. High school is crazy but we have to promise that nothing will distract us from what's really important, our friendship. So no distraction?"

"No distractions" Cassie smiled.

"No distractions" Phoebe said.

"No distractions" Tyler added in.

"No distractions" Tucker cheered, surprisingly.

"No distractions" Jesse nodded.

"No distractions" all six of them had spoken already, someone form behind them spoke, a very familiar voice. Slowly the all turned around with some of their hearts beating rapidly.

"Matty!" Phoebe exclaimed in shock. Behind them was Matt, he was wearing a huge smile in his face and he was alive, looking healthy and strong.

They all ran over to him and attacked him in a hug. "How, why..when where?" Phoebe asked. Lost for words. The rest of them just stared at him in shock, the girls were crying and the guys were just so shocked and confused. The happiest was Jesse, he couldn't he thought he had lost his best friend but there he was in front of him. He kept on smiling like an idiot.

"If you guys want an explanation you all need to stop strangling me" he pleaded breathlessly. They all took a step backwards but Jesse held on tight to his best friend with a creepy smile in his face, he held him as though if he let go, he'd disappear.

"If you guys remember, you all were told that I died and taken back to Canada, none of you actually saw my body. The whole thing was planned between Tyler over here" he said pointing to Tyler "and my mother" Cassie looked at a guilty looking Tyler and then she realized that that was why he looked so nervous, he didn't have any terrible secret, it was just Matt he was hiding.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you guys" Tyler apologized "I asked his mum to take him away because I was scared of what Brady was capable off. I would have said something sooner but I figured it'd be better as a surprise"

"This is the best surprise ever" Danny said.

"Wait you didn't know?" Phoebe asked.

"No, I did tell Tyler we were coming to school after Cassie's surprise so I guess that's when he planned it." Tyler nodded his head in confirmation.

"Cassie I know you got into an accident and all but how's your car?" He asked her as he shook her shoulders violently.

"It blew up"

"Why couldn't you just sacrifice yourself for that car?" He faked tears "you'll be missed Cassie's car"

She rolled her eyes at him playfully "you couldn't even name the car" she shook her head.

"Cassie's car is a pretty good name for a car" he defended.

"Yeah I'm sure it is Matt, I still can't believe you're alive" she squealed and then she hugged him again, and once more, they all joined in.

They all hugged Matt and attacked him with questions, the fact that he was alive was so overwhelming that they didn't even know how to react. They all talked, laughed and cried outside for a while and then once again, they all took their regal walk into the cafeteria. It didn't matter that no one was there to gawk at them, they didn't care about all that, the most important thing was that they all had each other.

As soon as they sat down, Tyler placed his hands on Cassie's lap and then she turned to him "will we be okay?" He asked hopefully.

She thought for a while about everything that had happened, she loved her life before all the trauma started, now that Matt was back she knew she had her life back. She looked up at Danny and coincidentally he turned to her and then he smiled. Although Danny didn't know what Tyler had just asked her but she took his smile as a sign, she knew everything will be alright and that they'll be just as they used to be.

"We will be" she smiled at Tyler and then he placed a tender kiss on her lips.

Once agin it was Matt: the joker, Jesse: the chill one, Tucker: the wild one, Cassie: the go-getter, Phoebe: the peppy one, Danny: the sweet one and Tyler?... The leader. Five outrageous, different unique guys and two crazy unique girls, but together, even after all their faults and differences, they made one perfect family.
