I began to climb the staircase as fast I could, just as I reached the top step the lightning struck and the whole house went white. I hoped that the flash prevented the intruder from seeing me, then I pushed open the storage room and the thunder struck just as I slammed the door shut. I could hear the loud footsteps climbing up the staircase fast. I was panting like a dog, sweat flowed from my temple to my cheek. The storage room was just the same as my room but messier. There was a huge metal rack sitting in the middle and a dusty window on its right side. I glanced outside through the window, the rain was increasing, I dearly hoped my mother to return and as I thought that a horrifying tragedy was likely to struck me. I left my phone in my room. My guts wrenched inside; I was still shaking.
I could see two feet standing just in front of the door. They were distinctly womanish with black heels. I retreated a little, there stood nothing between me and the intruder but a fragile door. But I dare not shout or make noise, I didn’t want to speak with a woman who barged into my house with blood-stained heels, who ate food like some kind of hungry wild animal and acted like a monster. I dare not breath. But I couldn’t control it. The house was steep and if I were to break the window and jump that would be a quick death. No.
She just stood there, that was more unnerving than anything. The two feet didn’t move nor she tried the doorknob. The silence and the stillness of it all made me break. All sorts of horrifying thoughts ran through my mind. Moving back a little, I noticed the small metal door on the lower wall to the left of the metal rack. The previous owners had installed this metal door, it was like a secret door through which one could climb up or go down to the hall. They never told why they made that it looked more like a huge pathway for mice.
The feets retreated, with the same click-clack. I moved closer to the door and bend down. She was facing my room and then she opened the door to it. I saw the feet going inside. I breathed a sigh of relief, at least it wasn’t looking for me. I slumped down the wall and grabbed my head, I had to get out now. Maybe if I run through the room and straight down the stairs and rush outside and hammer the door of the new neighbours then, all will be safe.
I took some time to think it over, the woman did not come out of my room, god knows what she did in there. But I sensed time slipping through my fingers like sand, so I got up again this time with a well though plan. The stairs, the door, the new neighbours. Those were my checkpoints. Then I heard a crash, a window broke. I clenched my fist thinking, The devil must’ve come to take her away.
How wrong was I.
Still, I didn’t think about it much, my role was to get out of this place as far as possible from this woman and I was chocking to death because of fear. I wanted this to stop. So, I grabbed the doorknob with my sweaty hands and licked my lips and prayed a little. Then I swung it and opened the door a little. There was no one. Through the crack I could see the broken window of my room. I took one step out and the immediately two hands grabbed the door, they were painted red. I pulled the door to shut close. My mind screamed, Bad Idea, Bad Idea, Bad Idea!!!
I turned away my face, I didn’t want to look at the woman, she might have yellow rotten teeth and wrinkled face with shiny red eyes, all that thinking was making me weak, I wanted this to stop and go to my mom and hug her but she was away, the bridge was closed, she wouldn’t be here soon. I felt my hands slipping from the doorknob, then I saw the metal door, just then the woman pulled the door open and I crashed on the floor, immediately I ran dove towards the small metal door but it had a latch on it. She was in the room, tall and horrifying, what did she want? I still can’t tell you, all I know is I grabbed the nail box and threw it at her without looking back hoping it would create a distraction then I opened the latch and got it and shut it.
There was no time to lose, my plan was shred into pieces, I had to act instinctively and so I did, I crammed myself through the space, hearing the metal door being banged and scratched. There were dead mice everywhere and the place stank like seventh pit of hell. But there was no time for revolt, I crawled faster, squishing the mice with my elbows as I did. I got out through the other door which I imagined to be sealed but it wasn’t. I straightened up and got a severe back ache spike through the middle but I began to run from the hall to the front door. Yes, I could get out!
I stormed towards the door but the woman must’ve heard me because she was halfway down the stairs. I didn’t freeze this time; I was raged with all the suspense and mystery. She came for me with her huge claws and her face was all white with a red lip, her eyes were yellow, and she grabbed me by my throat and whispered,
“Blood… Fresh Blood.”
I kicked her but she was strong, she brough me closer and bit my cheek, I yelled pain. But she didn’t leave me there, her hold on my throat was choking me. Her teeth were all sharp pointed. The flare of pain kicked my adrenalin and I punched her in eye. She jerked back and I saw my window of escape and took it. Rushing straight towards the neighbours, I fell down on the mud and twisted my ankle but I made it to them, I banged their door and the mother of the baby opened the door. The rain grew louder, I saw back to my house, the yellow eyes glared at me. I shuddered and fell down on the floor, I remember saying this before fainting,
“Woman- The intruder- Hel-”
In my unconscious state I could see her with yellow eyes and black knife-like teeth with a mangled face and sharp claws what looked natural were her shoes her black heeled shoes. I had nightmares for months because of that.
It was a good thing that the new neighbours were quick in actions, I would’ve lost a lot of blood if she hadn’t called the ambulance and the police. I was lying in a bed when my mother rushed towards me. The inspector took the notes from me and the team examined the bloody footprints and all that was wrecked. But there was no person who matched my description about the woman, the incident was a hot topic for a month but no one ever found her, of course. They called her ‘ Black heels woman’.
