Timeskip, five years later...

I still couldn't fully explain how it had happened. But the general consensus was that we all got our asses kicked pretty badly. If you'd have asked me a few days ago, I'd have said that together, Dante, myself, Lady and Trish could handle just about any demon we'd come across. 

However that was before HE entered the picture. And here we were, I had no idea where Dante was. And I couldn't do anything to help Lady and Trish, especially in my current state. What I'm referring too, you'll find out soon.

But all this, this chaotic chain of events all kickstarted when me and Lady received a visit from an old friend with a job...

Flashback to the previous evening...

A baby's cry caused me to bolt upright out of my chair. Before I could move though, Lady had beaten me too it, entering the lounge area cradling our infant son in her arms who slowly began to calm down.

You heard that right, me and Lady had a kid now. He was born about eight months ago and shortly after that, me and Lady retired temporarily from the whole Demon hunting thing, however recently we started taking odd jobs here and there to sustain our lifestyle.

I asked "Is he okay?" Lady nodded and replied "Yeah, poor thing seemed to have bumped his head on his crib." I grinned before standing up and approaching the pair, I peered down at my son, pointing my finger at him s I said "Ah, but my boy isn't going to let a little bump upset him for long, are you my little champ?"

S/N made a faint giggle as he grabbed my finger." Lady shot me a joking glare saying "Don't set him off. He's meant to be having a nap remember?" I replied "Oh, sorry, my bad." Before either of us could say anything else, our doorbell rang.

I sighed saying "I'll get it." I turned around and headed into the hallway of our house. With the money we'd saved up over the years since me and Lady became partners, we'd managed to purchase a pretty sizable place for us.

Opening the door, I will admit I was surprised to see MORRISON standing at our door. Following the defeat of Abigail years ago, I'd not really had much interaction with him aside from the odd job he tossed our way here and there, even so his arrival here was kind of a surprise.  I simply said "Morrison, fancy seeing you here?"

Morrison just smiled and said "Hey Y/N, mind if I come in? Something came up that I think you'll want to hear about." I responded "Sure, sure, come in." I stepped back, gesturing him inside. I gestured into the house, closing the door behind Morrison once he'd entered.

I gestured him into the lounge where Lady was still trying to put S/N back to sleep. She looked up, nodded and calmly said "Morrison." Morrison nodded saying "Lady." His eyes shifted to our son as he asked "How's the little scamp holding up?"

Lady replied "About as well as you'd expect from an eight month old baby. Spends his entire day either eating, playing or sleeping." I gestured to the sofa and told him "Please sit." He did just that as I asked "Tea, coffee?" 

Morrison replied "Coffee, two sugars, extra milk." I nodded went into the kitchen and prepared it before heading back into the lounge, giving him the beverage and sitting opposite him. Once all that was done, I finally asked "Okay, so what is it you wanted to tell us? I assume this isn't a social visit."

Morrison laughed and replied "Perhaps I just wanted to see my godson." After a light chuckle, his face turned serious as he said "But you're right. A job has come up that I think you'll definitely find interesting."

Me and Lady both looked at him as I said "I'm listening." Morrison went on with his explanation from there. "A strange man showed up at Devil May Cry recently, skinny man with black hair, tattoos. Carried a cane, sound familiar at all?"

I thought for a moment but there wasn't a single person I'd met who fit that description. I shrugged and said "Nope, nothing." Turning to Lady I asked "You?" She shook her head saying "No."

Morrison's eyes narrowed in thought as he said "That's kind of strange, the job he came to us with he specifically requested both you and Dante. He goes by the name V, strange guy. But the job he has is equally cryptic."

I raised an eyebrow and asked "What job is this?" Morrison replied "I'll leave that for him to explain. He's currently at Dante's shop now, if you want to come along." I looked at Lady and for a moment there was silence, before finally, she nodded.

We turned back to Morrison as she added "Okay, we'll come." Morrison clapped his hands together lightly before smiling again and saying "Ah great, my car is just parked outside, just put S/N's car seat in and we'll be good to go."

I sighed to myself but couldn't help a smile spreading across my face, these last eight months we'd been taking it easy, but now it seemed we were being brought right back into the game.

The beginning of the end was about to begin...
