Chapter 62: Thwarting the Ritual, the End of Arius
Y/N POV
Before stepping into the portal to confront Arius once and for all. I turned to Dante and said "Let me handle Arius, please. This is something I have to do alone." Dante looked at me and replied "Why? You failed to stop him before, if we work together he won't stand a chance."
I stared at him and said "Last time I underestimated him. But even then, this is my responsibility. I allowed you to fight Mundus, can't you let me have this one please?" Again, Dante just asked "But why? What's so special about Arius other than the fact that he hired you in the first place and knew your mother?"
Closing my eyes, I sighed and said "They didn't just know each other, he was her master. He wanted her to help him in his ambition. When she refused he marked her as a traitor. Now is finally my chance to set things right in her stead. Argosax cannot be unleashed."
Dante thought for a moment and of course, he didn't have his coin on him due to our little deception. He then said "Man, you remind me of Lady insisting on killing her father. At least you have a chance. Fine, do what you want."
I smiled and said "Thank you Dante." Just as I was about to go through the portal though I heard Dante call after me "Y/N!" Turning around, Dante offered a simple thumbs up. I smiled once again at the gesture before returning it with a thumbs up of my own.
With that I leapt through the portal. It brought me out in another corridor somewhere in the building, somewhere I knew I hadn't explored before. I wound up in a square room with a corridor leading towards a single door.
As I made my way down the hall I began to hear what sounded like orchestral music playing coming from the door ahead. I approached said door and drew Cinder and leaned against it, trying to hear what was going on.
I heard a sound I didn't recognize though I assume this meant that the ritual was finally beginning to take place. This was followed by the sound of Arius laughing maniacally. I used this moment to slowly push the door open and sneakily enter the room.
Arius stood in the centre of it with his back to me. He almost shrieked to himself, his voice sounded insane as he yelled "Now! I shall absorb his power! I will become an all-powerful IMMORTAL!" This was followed by more insane laughter, he was too focused on the ritual to notice me entering the chamber behind him.
It was at this point Arius realized something wasn't right. Dante's coin which we had substituted for one of the Arcana began to shake, clearly not compatible with the ritual. Arius exclaimed in shock "WHAT?! What's going on?!"
I chose this moment to reveal myself, asking sarcastically "Is there a problem?" Arius spun around, his eyes widened when he saw me as he exclaimed "Y/N?!" I held up the Arcana was had hidden from him and asked "Is this what you were looking for?"
Arius asked "I-is that, the Medaglia?!" He turned and noticed the substitute we had put in its place "You switched them?!" I smirked and said "My brother's idea. I know what he'd say in this situation as well. A false coin, for a false god."
I kept my smirk as Arius spun around to glare at me. I tried one last time to reason with him "Arius, stand down. You don't have to do this, my mother understood the consequences, why can't you?" Arius cut me off as he shrieked in rage "SILENCE!"
Dante's coin shot off its pedestal and landed right in my hand as I said "Thank you Dante. Now-." Turning my attention back to Arius I drew Eclipse and said "Now, it's time to settle this." I instantly charged at Arius, going in for a slash attack however he instantly vanished.
I heard a whistle behind me and saw Arius sitting at the base of one of the statues surrounding the room. He grinned devilishly at me and began speaking "You could have joined me Y/N. Succeeded where your mother failed. We could have both become immortal GODS. But now, you're going to pay for wasting so much of my precious time."
He snapped is fingers and in wisps of dark energy, several of his 'Secretaries' emerged. Each one of them sported blades identical to the ones Lucia wielded. I stated "So I was right, the Secretaries are demons then?"
As I fought off the demon attackers, Arius answered "Correct! Artificial demons created by me to be exact! Let's see if you can touch me, while you're too busy fighting my pawns!" With that he pulled out his magnum and aimed it at me.
I blocked a blow from one of the Secretaries before leaping upward and drawing Cinder once again. I fired several shots at the Secretaries taking out two of them before I narrowly dodged a shot from Arius as well.
He still sat at the base of the statue and this provided my first opening, when he least expected it, I spun around and fired three shots toward him, all three hit and damaged him though to my surprise, he didn't DIE!
I muttered "So, he did become stronger. Fine." With that I rushed forward in mid-air attempting to slash at Arius once again, though just like before he disappeared once again. Spinning around, he was sat at the base of yet another statue, magnum aimed at me.
With another snap of his fingers, another batch of Secretaries appeared. I began to fight them off while Arius stayed back and shot at me from afar. The first Secretary went down quickly with a slash through her torso.
The second one met the same fate and the third met her end as I drove Eclipse into her stomach. The fourth and fifth followed shortly after as I swiftly drew my grenade launcher and fired two shells directly at both of them.
Once they were all out of the way, I turned my attention to Arius and dashed at him. I got a few slashed with Eclipse before he moved over to yet another statue causing me to snap "Get over here and fight me!"
Arius just laughed and retorted "No, I think I'm very much comfortable where I am." I glared at him and snapped "If that's how you want it." Within an instant I entered my Devil Trigger causing Arius to smirk arrogantly.
"So, this is your demonic nature taken form I see. Then let us finish this, Son of Sparda!" I knew they way he said 'Son of Sparda' he was getting serious. And it was at this point I made a dash for him, Eclipse in hand.
Before Arius even got an opportunity to summon more Secretaries, I began delivering a series of brutal slashes that caused him to rag-doll against the base of the statue. I finished up by grabbing him by the collar of his suit and tossing him into the centre of the room.
He got up onto his hands and knees before turning and glaring at me. I slowly began to approach, still in Devil Trigger as Arius shifted so that he was now sitting on the floor staring up at me. He raised his magnum and spat "DIE!"
He began firing shots, he fired about five or six of them however thanks to my Devil Trigger, I didn't even flinch from them. I just continued to approach him before once again grabbing the from of his suit.
Instead of looking scared though, Arius just held a confident smirk as he raised his hand and once again snapped his fingers. The next thing I knew, I was kicked in the face by an agile Secretary that had gotten the jump on me.
Turning around I saw myself completely surrounded by about THIRTEEN Secretaries all of which had their weapons drawn. To top it all off, it was at this point that my Devil Trigger finally wore off. I got to my feet and turned to face the demons.
Arius did the same as he began speaking "Look up Y/N." I did so and saw a large window on the ceiling, through it I could see the sun being almost completely eclipsed by the moon! Arius continued "The eclipse is almost upon us. It's too late to stop it now. You may have sabotaged the ritual but HE will soon return. ARGOSAX shall walk again!"
I spat "And you won't be here to see it. I don't know what my mother saw in you. You're too far-gone by this point. I thought maybe, just maybe, I could redeem you. But it was a lost cause. Like you said, it's time to finish this."
I slowly began to walk forward, all of the Secretaries dived towards me however they were no match for me. One by one they went down, all the while, my stare remained on Arius who's expression became more and more scared each time.
Once the final Secretary had been dealt with, I continued to walk towards Arius, he began stepping back slowly his magnum extended in front of him. He shot two rounds both of which hit me, drawing blood though I ignored the pain.
Upon reaching him he screeched "STAY BACK!" However I didn't listen, I didn't even reply, instead I just drove my sword forward, impaling Arius right through the chest as the blood-soaked tip of Eclipse emerged from his back.
Arius coughed up blood and stared at me wide-eyed. I just stared back with a blank expression as I said one final phrase to him "Farewell Arius. May you find peace in death." It seems fate had other plans though with what happened next.
Purple electricity built up around Eclipse! It was the same thing that happened to King. The electricity suddenly burst from the blade, consuming Arius and causing him to scream out in agony. Particles began flaking off Arius' body and travelling into Eclipse itself.
Withdrawing the blade, I stepped back wide-eyed as I noticed Arius began to look much more withered and pale. He looked at himself and asked "W-what happened?" His eyes turned to me as he added "What have you done to me?"
I just continued to stare at him in shock, even in the time since the incident with King I still had no idea what had happened. The fact that the incident was happening again. Arius took one final step with his hand extended outward toward me before he finally collapsed to the ground.
I remained frozen in place for a moment before eventually dropping to my knees. I just stared down at Arius' withered and lifeless body. I felt a strange feeling within me once again, I remained hunched over, catching my breath for a moment before I composed myself.
I reached over and closed Arius' eyes before my attention shifted to his weapon, the magnum revolver lying on the ground next to his body. I picked the firearm up and held it in my hands. I sighed to myself, perhaps one of the last remaining ties to my mother, was gone.
Just as I placed the magnum away before standing up. With Arius gone, there was no reason for me to stay any longer. Little did I know, there was one last order of business that we were unaware of...
Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, the next one should be the last one of the segment, I have decided that I am going to then move to my Resident Evil book so I can get that one finished, after that I will come and finally get this book finished as well. I really enjoyed writing the fight between Y/N and Arius, next up will involve Argosax. I really hope you enjoy that chapter, I also hope you enjoyed this one and as always, thank you for reading.
