Y/N POV

After settling the matter with Trish, me and Dante proceeded onwards to the final stretch of our task. I don't know why exactly, but I had a strange feeling deep down that we were drawing ever-closer to wherever Mundus was located.

We continued through the series of grotesque tunnels of this demonic realm until we eventually arrived on a platform within a large chamber. Looking down, my eyes widened when we both saw a gigantic heart, connected to a sealed door which I could only assume was our final obstacle.

Dante commented "That's one huge-ass heart." I nodded and said "Indeed, and I assume it's somehow tied to that barrier. If we were to make the heart start beating, then perhaps, the barrier will disable itself." Dante just said "Sounds good to me."

We found a small door off to the side of the chamber, the veins coming from the heart seemed to lead through this door. Going through it we eventually arrived at two crossroads, the veins split up going in both directions.

I turned to Dante with another suggestion "Tell you what, how about I go left, you go right. That way we will save time, we find the two methods of restarting the heart and meet back in that large chamber, sound good?"

Dante agreed once again and we travelled on our own respective paths. Along the way, I encountered multiple different demons I had encountered earlier including Nobody, Frost among a few others. Though I payed them no mind and just cut my way through any that directly got in my way.

However eventually, I arrived at a pool of lava with chunks of rock conveniently placed across it, providing me with the perfect bridge. I leapt across each rock one by one until I arrived at the end.

Here I found some elevated platforms. Hopping up them one at a time. Once I arrived at the top, I smirked at what I found. The vein seemed to lead to one of those seals, the same ones that we used to defeat Nightmare.

I stepped forward, drew Eclipse and instantly began slashing away at the seal until all the insignias were lit up. The ground began shaking around me and sure enough, I noticed a consistent flow going through the vein, presumably back to the heart.

I just turned around and began retracing my steps back through the series of fleshy, grotesque tunnels until eventually I arrived back in the large heart chamber. Sure enough, one of the veins was already pumping into the heart, that just left the other.

And soon, the other vein started pumping as well meaning Dante had accomplished his task and just as I had thought, the barrier to the large door, shattered into several shards. Speaking of Dante he arrived shortly afterwards.

He turned to me and asked "Are you ready?" He gestured to Sparda on his back as I held up Eclipse and said "Ready as I'll ever be." With that, we leapt over the now-beating heart and landed on the ledge right in front of the door.

Stepping towards the door, we slowly pushed open one of the doors and stepped into another room. To my surprise, this one was extremely bright and even somewhat angelic in appearance. We both stepped forward and looked upwards.

Directly ahead of us was a giant, three-eyed statue, sitting in a throne. Suddenly we heard a familiar voice of Mundus himself coming from within it and it was now that I knew we had finally found him. It was finally time to finish this!

Mundus didn't even look at us as he said "Again I must face two Sparda's. Strange fate isn't it?" Dante retorted "Strange and ironic that it will end the same way!" Mundus just laughed in a sinister tone before continuing.

"Irony has favoured you both this time. Look, there." A beam of light emerged from his chest and as we followed said light's trajectory, I gasped when I saw Trish, shackled, suspended high above us, unconscious.

Dante exclaimed "Trish!" However Mundus spoke up again "Don't even think about it. Blink, she dies." We turned to back to him and yelled in unison "YOU!" Mundus suddenly fired needle-like projectiles from his eyes, all of them impaled Dante in the chest causing Trish to wake up and yell "Dante!"

I turned to him, pointed Eclipse at him and said "Damn it!" Mundus just chuckled again and said "I was wondering when we would meet again Y/N. It has been a long time hasn't it?" Even though his voice was deep and distorted, I could make out a condescending, sarcastic tone in his words.

I just kept glaring up at Mundus before asking "Why?" Mundus didn't answer so I elaborated more. "Why did you kill my mother?" Mundus remained silent for a moment before explaining "The answer lies right there in your hands." I looked down at Eclipse with confusion.

Mundus kept speaking "You have no idea how long it took me to find you, it took years before I finally found out that Sparda had one more child? An illegitimate one at that, your mother did a good job of keeping you a secret along with the artefact she held. But I would expect nothing less from her."

Tilting my head in confusion I asked "What do you mean?" Mundus let out another chuckle before asking "Do you really want to know? Very well." By this point, Dante had got to his knees, still injured, as Mundus explained.

"Your mother was one of the few humans in the world to be aware of the demon world. In addition to this, she was also well-versed in demonic lore and it was this that drew Sparda to her. Of course you are aware that's what lead to-" He trailed off as I finished "-Me."

Mundus responded "That's right, and it was also here where he trusted her with one of his artefacts. The sword you carry with you right there. Eclipse." I asked "What power does this sword possess, why did you want it so bad?!" 

Mundus answered "You have no idea of the power that your sword possesses? You thought nothing of the endless Demons who you've slain?" I glared and said "What's that got to do with anything?" Mundus laughed and said "Fool, you are too naïve for its power, just like your mother."

In a fit of rage, I shifted into my Devil Trigger and launched towards him yelling "BASTARD!" However he shot a beam from his third eye that launched me back, causing me to crash into the wall next to the door we entered.

I was knocked out of my Devil Trigger and was barely able to get back up as I glared back at him. He then turned back to Dante and began mocking us both. "Fools! So sad that humans will always be humans, no more. Has the Sparda blood been spoiled over the ages? Now die!"

He prepared to fire another beam from his eye, if this hit Dante, he would be dead. However just as it was about to do so, TRISH suddenly dived in front of it and was hit head-on in the face by it, causing her to collapse onto her back. Dante yelled out "Trish NO!"

Mundus spat out with venom "Useless scum. Failure is one thing but taking an odd behaviour like that." He paused before composing himself and asking "What is the matter? It is time to end your pitiful lives now."

He tried firing another beam and I thought this was the end, however to my surprise, the beam just bounced right off Dante as he spun around with glowing red eyes. A red aura surrounded his body as he yelled "How much longer are you going to keep zapping? Come out and show yourself, Mundus!"

The statue began cracking and a heavenly glow began beaming through with each stone piece that fell away. Once that was all gone, there was a light that temporarily blinded me. However when it was gone, we saw Mundus in his true form.

I didn't get a good look at it for long though, because in a split second, both him and Dante were whisked away to an unknown location. Nevertheless, I slowly got to my feet, with Eclipse still in hand, I limped over to Trish's unconscious form before dropping to my knees.

Looking up to the ceiling of the room, I could only hope that Dante would have the necessary strength to defeat Mundus once and for all. I wish I could have been there, but that blast Mundus hit me with took too much out of me, I'm just lucky I didn't end up like Trish.

Though one thing that stuck with me was Mundus' earlier statement. What 'power' did Eclipse possess that made him want it so bad?
