Chapter 33: The Gelatinous Nightmare
Y/N POV
Following me and Dante's minor skirmish, we once again joined forces. With no further need to remain in the arena, we both exited back out into that large open courtyard once again, this time only to be ambushed by a group of those Sin Scissors demons
By this point, their ability to block our attacks was nothing to worry about and even the fact that there were four of them present at this point, didn't exactly make them all that much of a threat to us.
Drawing our swords, we instantly sprang into action. I rushed on of them, performing a fake-out stabbing attack. This was to lure the demon into blocking that attack and leaving them wide-open as I followed up with a downwards slashing attack.
I then inversed this attack by doing an upward slash straight afterwards before the demon had a chance to react. I then tried a sideways slash as well however that unfortunately got blocked, causing me to falter a little before recovering and going in for a stabbing blow.
My blade pierced right through the demon's torso and killed it. As I landed on the ground, I turned to another and pulled out my Grenade Launcher. Holding it in one hand, I fired a shell into the second demon that exploded upon impact.
This knocked the demon back and gave me the perfect opportunity to leap up with Eclipse and perform a series of upward, downward and sideways slashes which in the end resulted in the second Sin Scissors demon dying as well.
As I was fighting those two, Dante also managed to dispose of the two he was fighting with about the same lack of difficulty as me. Once they were taken out, we headed back in the direction of the arena however this time we turned right.
You see, there was another door blocked by a shield and just like last time, we used the emblem shield we found in the catacombs and upon making contact, the shield blocking the door disappeared, allowing us to access the door.
This lead us into another underground network of tunnels with another backwards moving path and several spike traps, protruding out of the ground and the walls. Upon finally reaching the end of this passage way, we found a strange relic.
At first, it looked like a black statue however when Dante picked it up, he noticed an arm hole which he inserted his right hand into. As he did so, the tip of it opened up to reveal a small cannon of sorts.
Dante muttered "Wow." Before aiming the cannon at one of the walls. To my surprise, a bolt of green energy shot out and vaporized a large crater in the wall itself. I just stared at it in shock for a moment as Dante said "Well that looks cool."
Image of Nightmare Beta:
With this new and very destructive weapon in hand, we both backtracked out of the crypt and back up into the courtyard once. This time, we exited the same way we entered it the first time w were here.
This eventually lead us back towards the raised drawbridge leading back into Mundus' castle. Dante placed an artefact in a small hole and the drawbridge lowered, allowing us to retrace our steps in order to enter the castle where our journey started.
It was extremely dark here this time however we could just about see where we were going when we eventually found ourselves in that large chamber that we initially entered when we first arrived at the castle.
However this time, we were suddenly caught off guard when a bold of lightning shot down from a hole in the ceiling, the same hole I believe Phantom created when he fell to his death. The lightning impacted a statue of a knight.
The lightning first took the shape of a bat, it suddenly then split into two separate bats which to my surprise, then took the forms of myself and Dante respectively. The only difference was that they had one eye.
Image of a Plasma:
The blue plasma-like demon that resembled Dante fired a beam from its singular eye. However we leapt over it with ease and engaged the two copies of ourselves. Naturally I went for the one that looked like me.
It went back into its bat-like form and fired a blast from its eye however I dodged and drew Cinder, opening fire on the creature. I will admit, I was surprised at how weak this specific type of demon was, given its entrance, I expected more of a challenge.
However this wasn't the case, the demon's laser attacks were easy to dodge and I only needed to land a few minor attacks before the creature disappeared in a whisper of blue electrical energy. Dante had the same situation and soon we were once again alone in the large hall.
With them out of the way, we continued heading through the tower, taking familiar routes and fighting some more of those plasma-like demons until eventually we arrived in another large room, this one had a strange puddle in the centre.
I approached the puddle and looked into it. Upon closer inspection though, it looked more like a mirror rather than your traditional puddle. It showcased a complete reflection of the room I was in.
I was startled when a sudden sludgy mass leapt from the pool right before us and landed on the ground with a splat. Both me and Dante readied our weapons as the sludge began to take on a shape, revealing bones that resembled the cannon Dante had just picked up. There was also an assortment of human bones buried within it.
Image of the Nightmare:
Without hesitation, we charged towards the creature, attempting to land an assortment of attacks, both with our swords and our firearms though it was all for nothing. Even Ifrit and that Nightmare Beta were completely powerless against the armoured shell of the demon.
That's when I noticed a few of those seals dotted around the room. The seals that if you were to strike them enough times, they would do something. Perhaps they would help us out here. Either way, I went to test the theory.
Striking the seal enough times caused all of the insignias to light up which then caused a flash of purple light to brighten up the room. And to my surprise, a part of the Nightmare demon's back opened up, revealing some sort of core.
I yelled "Dante! On its back!" He noticed the core and nodded to me before lunging in, using his Devil Trigger, he was able to deal quite a lot of damage before the core covered itself back up. Now I yelled "I'll activate the seals, you strike the core when it appears." Again, he nodded in acknowledgment before we began executing our plan.
Nightmare began generating these little orbs that fired tiny purple lasers however I remained focused on the next seal. I dashed towards it and began railing on it with a series of slashing attacks until the light appeared and the creature's core appeared once again.
Dante took this opportunity to land several more hits and it was clear we were actually damaging the Nightmare now. However once again, it soon covered its core up and turned to face me.
Its face then opened up, revealing a large cannon and it fired a giant green beam towards me! I was just barely able to dodge the force of the blast as it left a large burn mark in the wall. Nevertheless, I remained focused on the third seal.
Dashing towards it, I flipped over Nightmare and instantly began slashing at the seal until the insignias lit up, emitting that purple light and exposing the core one last time.
This time, I entered Devil Trigger as well as we both launched ourselves towards the core. Launching one final assault we eventually broke the core in two, causing the Nightmare to let out a roar before dissolving into the ground and disappearing.
Returning to normal, me and Dante both just stared at the mirror-like pool where the demon had come from. It seemed no matter how far we got. Mundus would always find a way to surprise me.
But our next opponent would be the icing on the cake for sure...
Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, if all goes well I may be able to get a second one up later however I can't promise anything. Anyway, I really hope you enjoyed this chapter, we're definitely nearing the end of the segment, and as always, thank you for reading.
