Chapter 29: The Demonic Knight's Return
(This was meant to be yesterday's chapter however I couldn't complete it until today. I've also decided that I'm going to take a brief break from this book in order to finish the next segment of my Resident Evil story. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed working on both books at once and I think this may have affected the quality of the chapters I was writing.)
Y/N POV
Me and Dante entered through the large doorway into what appeared to be some kind of greenhouse. Surrounding the circular room were a variety of plants and wildlife, on either side there were glass rooms that we couldn't access.
Almost instantly, we were ambushed by a demon that resembled the Sin Scissors demons we had fought earlier, though for whatever reason this one looked slightly different and was notably stronger. In fact, me and Dante instantly had to dodge a flurry of different slash attacks.
I initially tried to get around the demon and raced towards the door that I assumed was the way forward. Though as I should have expected at this point, it was sealed shut, causing me to turn back to Dante fighting the Sin Scissors demon.
I looked around until I noticed a hole in the centre of the floor and brought this up to Dante by calling out. "Dante! Leave this guy to me, you head into that hole and find a way to get this door open!" Dante glanced towards the hole before looking back to me, nodding and saying "Sure thing!"
As Dante leapt into the hole and out of sight, I summoned forth Ifrit again and instantly leapt towards the demon, landing an uppercut that knocked the demon back. I then did a flip and landed a solid punch to its chest area with the other gauntlet.
Next up, I revealed my Grenade Launcher and proceeded to fire a shell into the same area I just punched. The shell exploded upon impact and forced the demon to hit the ground. Finally, I made Ifrit disappear before pulling Eclipse out and stabbing the creature in the face, finishing it off for good.
I landed back on my feet and began catching my breath, I heard a faint tapping on one of the windows and turned to see Dante standing there holding up some sort of object and grinning. I just made a gesture with my finger signalling for him to come back.
Upon doing so, we heard the door at the top of the stairs unlock and we headed through it without a moments hesitation. Next we found ourselves on a small ledge overlooking a large room. We both looked around for a moment before leaping across two raised platforms, reaching a small room on the other side.
Here we found a shrine of sorts which had some sort of podium. Dante commented "It seems that something needs to be placed on here to lead to the next area." I just nodded in agreement and said "Pretty obvious, but yes. I suggest we go back that way."
We leapt off the ledge with the room, and descended to the area below. Once here, we looked around until we came across another podium, this one had a chalice on it, protected by a magical barrier.
Dante stepped forward and said "Maybe this thing I found will help." He held up the strange relic from earlier and placed it into a hole in the centre of the podium. The barrier dropped as Dante reached for the chalice, picking it up.
Suddenly we heard the sound of footsteps behind us as all the doors sealed themselves and blue lightning built up around us. Turning around, my eyes widened when I saw that same Knight we encountered before looking down at us.
The knight drew his sword, raised it above his head and readied for battle. Dante wisecracked "You again, well I've got time to kill, so I guess killing you will do just fine." The knight leapt down to our level and after we drew our weapons, our battle began.
Instantly, me and Dante both dashed forward and went in to slash at the Knight's head. However he easily blocked and swatted me back with a backhand causing me to be sent flying a little, I caught myself by stabbing Eclipse into the ground.
Looking up, I saw Dante and the Knight slashing away at one another, landing blow after blow before I decided to join the fray once again. Gripping Eclipse tightly, I entered my Devil Trigger state and went in to perform an upward slash.
As the Knight staggered faintly from my attack, I turned to Dante and said "I'll hold him off, you see if you can find another way out of here!" Dante nodded and left me alone with our opponent.
I decided to test my new Devil Arm out, sheathing Eclipse, I summoned Ifrit and got into a boxing stance. The Knight wasted no time going forward for a powerful stabbing attack. I ducked under the attack and landed a punch to his armoured chest plate.
The Knight doubled over a little however he soon recovered and tried an upward slash of his own. I had to leap backwards to avoid the blow however it just about nicked the side of my stomach.
I landed on my feet again as the two of us just stared at one another, the Knight's helmeted eyes showed aggression however there was also a hint of pride in them? Even though he wore a helmet, I could feel something within him.
We ran at one another and clashed in the middle, just as he had done with Dante in their last battle. I was back to using Eclipse now and violent sparks were shooting off our respective weapons as both of us gave it everything we had.
I once again entered Devil Trigger and with a forceful push, thrusted the Knight backwards, now we were again, staring at one another, I could see from his bodily movements that he was also trying to somewhat catch his breath much like me, we were both out of energy from our battle.
I grinned and said "Now, let's finish this." I dashed forward and leapt upwards, holding Eclipse, ready to stab at the knight however I was caught off guard completely when he conjured a series of blue energy blades that looked very familiar.
I was frozen in shock as one of the blades hit me in the shoulder and the other in the leg, causing me to hit the ground. The Knight got back to his feet and walked towards me, weapon in hand. Before he could make a move, he was ambushed once again, this time by Dante who jumped in, blocked his attack and then knocked him down onto his back.
A blue aura surrounded the Knight before his body was once again whisked up into the air, leaving me standing there shocked at what had just happened. I was snapped from my thoughts as Dante alerted me "The way's clear, I put that chalice on the podium at the top. Let's go."
I turned to him and nodded. We left the chamber and continued our exploration. One thought roamed my mind. Only one person knew how to summon those blue swords. But why was he here?
Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, like I said at the top, I want to just take a break from this book to finish the current segment of my Resident Evil story. I just felt like I was overwhelmed, worrying about both books at once. I will resume work on this soon and I hope you like it when the time comes. I also hope you enjoyed this chapter, since it will be the last one for a short while, two weeks at maximum and as always, thank you for reading.
