Chapter 28: The Canyon of Mist

Y/N POV

Following our battle with the Griffon demon, me and Dante were left once again, standing in the large open courtyard. We looked around to find which way we should progress next, of course the big archway leading back to the arena was a definite no.

Firstly, there was a door off to the side which we both went through that lead us into an open hallway. On either side there was some kind of strange shield, surrounded with an aura, one was red and the other was purple. Other than that detail though, this passageway was useless for the time being.

Heading back out into the courtyard, we looked around and that's when we noticed another door, just next to the archway which had a lit brazier to the left of it and an unlit one to the right of it.

I stepped forward and pushed on the door only to find it was locked. That's when Dante pointed out "Y/N, your new gloves-" I once again summoned them and looked down at them. I then turned my attention towards the empty brazier.

(Just to clarify, Y/N can summon Ifrit just like Vergil could summon Beowulf in DMC 3.)

Raising my hand, I impacted the brazier with my fist. Just as Dante thought, my flames from Ifrit was able to ignite the second brazier and just like that, the door opened to us. Dante exclaimed "Bingo! Knew it would work!" I then made Ifrit disappear once again before we progressed.

The door lead us to yet another exterior area. However it wasn't easy to tell what this one was meant to be since there was a thick fog that clouded our vision for the most part. Nevertheless, we stepped forward and began investigating.

We both kept our respective weapons ready, in case we were ambushed by any unseen adversaries. Eventually though, we came to a structure directly across from where we were before.

As we approached the door however, a white magical barrier formed over it and we heard sounds, causing us to spin around. We found ourselves surrounded by several Marionettes that were being lead by a new type of Marionette with a glowing core.

Regardless of appearance, it was still easy to take down and soon enough, we defeated all the Marionettes present in order to disable the white barrier as it shattered into glass shards, allowing us to progress.

Going on through that door as well, we found ourselves in another corridor which we followed along until we were once again ambushed by more Marionettes that we dealt with shortly afterwards.

This time we found ourselves blocked by a red barrier, we offered the necessary red orbs and just like that, we were allowed to continue on our path.

We arrived on a narrow path, etching its way across the side of a mountain. On the right was the cliff-face going upwards while on the left was a drop leading down into a misty abyss. Both me and  Dante continued forward until we arrived at a pair of crossroads.

Out of no where, we were ambushed once again! This time however it was from those Sin Scissors demons that we encountered earlier. However, much like the other demons, we were more than used to them at this point.

We easily fended off the two ghostly demons, even as they tried blocking our attacks. In the end, Dante cut one of them in half while I stabbed the other right through its torso, both of them let out squeals as they disintegrated.

With that out of the way, we turned our attention back to the crossroads directly in front of us. I narrowed my eyes and tried to look down each path to see what was there however due to the thick mist, I was practically blind until I heard Dante call "Hey Y/N, come take a look at this."

I stepped over and saw him looking at a plaque. From what I gathered, all we needed to do was quote 'follow the light' and we would find the correct path. Though my question was what exactly was this light?

As if reading my mind, a small ball of light emerged from the stone with the plaque on it, it then travelled towards the left walkway and disappeared into the mist. I turned to Dante and said "Follow the light. Come on." He responded by saying "Already on it."

With that, we followed the light into the mist, eventually coming out at another crossroads, here we encountered some of those Blades from the courtyard before. This time, much like the other demons, we knew what we were doing so we cut them down no problem.

This time, as we struck down the final demon, that same ball of light emerged from its body before retreating, this time into the misty tunnel to the left. Again, we followed it to another crossroads, where we just repeated the motion a third and final time.

At last we finally came out of the mysterious canyon. Upon our exit we were suddenly ambushed by another new demon type, this one was similar to that Phantom only it was much smaller and lacked any of the fire abilities Phantom had.

Image of Kyklops:

Both me and Dante got into fighting stances and engaged the spider-like demon. Due to our experience with Phantom, the fight was almost none-existent and combined, we cut down the demon in an instant.

Once that was dealt with, we turned our attention to a large structure directly opposite us. I will admit, I was growing curious as to what our next challenge would be. Little did I know, it would be an interesting one...

Author's Note: And that's this chapter done and dusted. This one was another of those that I found difficult to write and have doubts about so I'm sorry if it was bad. If it's any consolation, the next chapter should be an interesting one, though I don't know if I'll be able to upload tomorrow, I will try regardless. Anyway, I still do hope you enjoyed the chapter and as always, thank you for reading.
