Chapter 3: Winter Soldier (AKA HYDRA's List is at it Again)
Percy did not find the assassin's first, surprisingly they came to him. Well first came the metal arm man and then the super spy assassin people.
This time it was not the gods' fault. It was all the fault of mortals and technology. The nearest Percy had been to technology was the computer labs at school and even then he avoided them like the plague so this was most likely not a monster at least he did not react like a monster when Percy pulled out Riptide.
The guy had pinned him in an alley after a date with Annabeth. It was meant to be a nice picnic dinner on the beach and a couple of games on the Cony Island pier before they separated for the night. It worked for Annabeth not so much Percy which led to his current situation.
Percy was pressed against a solid brick wall in an alley not even two blocks from his apartment. On a rooftop at the right side of the alley. was a man with only one arm shooting rapid-fire bullets at him. They made loud clangs against the demigod's Celestial Bronze shield that he had just barely gotten up in time for the first round of bullets. The son of Poseidon could sense the water running through a hydrant only a couple hundred feet away, but the noise of the bullets kept pulling his concentration away from accomplishing anything.

Clint activated his tracker as it was almost time for Natasha to take over for the night and Perseus had not returned home yet. The blonde had stayed away from the raven's date but close enough that he would know if anything happened in the general vicinity. Luckily, nothing had happened. Clint mentally cursed himself as he thought that.
He had never stopped using one rule even after leaving the Greek world: "Never say that you are safe before you are one hundred percent sure you are safe and even then never say you are safe."
True to this rule before they had even gotten to the teen's apartment something bad happened. The man appeared from the shadows much like Natasha and he would when they were sneaking. He seemed to have been lying in wait because he pushed himself up from leaning against a concrete wall on the roof of an apartment building.
'Probably houses the air conditioner and heat,' thought Clint offhandedly.
The man had dark long hair that stood out against the fuzzy blue-black of New York nighttime. One of his arms was missing. Clint could see the silvery moonlight reflected dimly on his arm. A giant red star on the shoulder made Clint remember a rumor that had been going around and had even grown in the past few years. HYDRA had been deploying an assassin known only by the moniker: The Winter Soldier. He was deadly and silent (much like one of those really stinky farts that dogs let out and then you can smell it because they are laying right next to you except he just does not talk).
Clint watched helplessly from too far away as The Winter Soldier raised a gun and let bullets fly in rapid succession. The archer tapped out an SOS message to Natasha before making the rest of his way towards the fight. Perseus was pinned down in the alley under him hefting a bronze shield that the bullets were deflecting off of. Clint pressed the button on his bow that made it unfold. He grabbed an arrow out of his quiver and shot at the man's flesh bicep. The arrow crossed the three-hundred-yard distance quickly, it landed firmly within the Soldier's bicep and he recoiled from the force. This stopped the bullets momentarily as he recovered.
Perseus looked up at the reprieve from bullets banging against his shield and nodded.
~~~
Percy took the slot that whoever had shot the arrow at Mr. Metal Arm Man gave him. Water exploded from the fire hydrant and Percy directed it toward himself, the water surrounded him in a miniature hurricane. The shield Tyson had given him collapsed back into its watch form now that the onslaught had ceased and Percy was no longer in need of it.
Percy sent a strand of the water towards the man as well and he was left soaked.
~~~
Clint gaped at what he witnessed. Either the kid was a powerful mutant or his suspicions were right and the kid was a demigod except not undiscovered. The water obeyed his every thought without moving a muscle.
"Come down and fight me unless you're a coward," Perseus taunted up to the Winter Soldier from his personal hurricane.
'Don't taunt the very deadly assassin, kid. Do you have a death wish?' Clint thought. Dear readers, you have to remember that Clint is unaware of the Son of Poseidon who has taunted many gods and ended up on their hit list yet still survives. If he was aware he would not be surprised by this action.
Clint scrambled down the fire escape as the Winter Soldier jumped down from his roof, he checked Natasha's tracker to see where she was. Five minutes! he and the surprisingly powerful kid could survive five minutes for backup.
"Nice hurricane, kid. Where'd you learn that?" Clint called dropping that last ten feet to the ground.
Perseus smiled widely but it was a slightly disconcerting smile with the ways his eyes were glowing an eerie sea green only enunciated by the dark alleyway. "Trial and error," he replied.
A sharp hiss drew the attention of both of the males. They both looked over to see The Winter Soldier drawing a long double-sided knife out of its sheath on his belt.
"Got anything besides those powers, kid?" Clint asked, drawing a knife out of his boot. He had another one on him.
"Nothing that'll hurt him," responded Perseus.
"Know how to use a knife?"
"Yeah."
"Take this. Don't die." Clint thrust his spare knife into the kid's hands but not before thinking about how lucky he was that Laura was not here to see that. She would scold him for thrusting a weapon into a teenager's hand and telling him not to die, but based on the boy's reaction he seemed almost used to being handed weapons and told not to die. Another hint towards him being a possible demigod with even a little bit of training.
Clint ran towards the assassin and they met knife to knife he noticed some similarities between Natasha's fighting style and The Winter Soldier's. However, while Natasha's was more graceful in an acrobatic type way and with the movement of a dancer the Soldier's was rougher with no edge in flexibility despite still being graceful. This man was faster though and he used it to his advantage. The Winter Soldier landed far more hits on Clint than Clint did on him. Perseus joined in the fight at one point but he was clumsier with a knife used to the long reach of his sword. It was not until Natasha snuck up behind the fight from the mouth of the alley, pounced on the Winter Soldier, and pressed her Widow Bites to his temple with enough force in the shock to bring down an elephant that anything happened.
"We're gonna have to leave him here," Natasha said. "That won't last long enough to get the Quinjet here and bring him to S.H.I.E.L.D or the Tower."
"Figured," Clint replied. "Thanks for the rescue."
"Anytime. But I think we have something else we need to do."
"Right, the kid."
Natasha nodded and turned to Perseus. "You're gonna have to come with us. A debrief -if you will- on the events that unfolded here."
"Sorry, ma'am. Mom is expecting me home by eleven and it's already almost ten thirty," Perseus responded, shaking his head.
"That's fine we can schedule for another day. Take this." Natasha hands Percy a business card with an address and phone number on it.
"I'll think about it and get back to you. Think I could bring someone along? She'll want to hear what happened too."
"Yep. As long as she's trustworthy."
"Very trustworthy. Bye, Mr. Archery Dude. Bye, Miss. Badass Woman." Perseus waved at them as he backed out of the alley. The two assassins waved back. Clint was slightly amused at the nicknames he gave them.

Sorry, this took so long. I was overwhelmed with schoolwork for a while and then got a case of Writer's Block but this turned out okay I believe. Also, I'm basing some of Clint's skills off of an article I found on his bow. About it's draw weight and make. I'll link it in case anyone wants to read it.
