Chapter 5: Divine Power, Forgive Me, Let Me Live!

An awkward silence filled the dining table as Kate bit into my third slice of pizza.

Oliver was eating his, staying silent. Jordan was also eating his slice, staying silent.

Where is Levvy? He would totally make this situation so un-awkward.

Maybe Levvy might be in the shower, since there is a bathroom at the other side of the apartment so, you can't hear anything from in there. And his shoes were still here, so he hasn't left the apartment. Unless he likes to walk bare foot.

A sound of the door closing was heard. And another one open, and then close again.

Oliver and Jordan looked up at Kate with wide eyes. And she knew exactly what they were thinking. She widened her eyes as well, playing along. Kate slid her phone out from her back pocket and unlocked it.

They both asked her (completely not in unison), "What was that?"

Kate typed a text behind her back and replied shakily, "U-um I don't know..."

They both looked at her and Jordan whispered, "Are you sure...?"

"Yeah, maybe someone else lives with you and they're home," Oliver whispered.

She looked behind her, over her shoulder acting as if she was looking at the clock, but in reality, looking if the text was not gibberish. It wasn't. She quickly sent it.

She looked back at them and said, "No, my roommate usually gets here at nine, and it's just six."

Their expressions got worse, and Kate internally laughed.

Oh yeah, I have to turn off the phone. Kate slid her hand behind her and pressed the lock button.

She slowly picked it up and slid it in her back pocket.

Oliver raised an eyebrow and questioned, "What are you doing?"

Crap, he noticed.

"Just scratching my back, it was getting a bit itchy," She replied nervously. As a cover up I added, "What should we do about the... unknown creature?"

Then Jordan spoke, "Unknown creature? It could be a robber! Or a murderer! What if it's a murderer!" He yelled, whispering.

Kate widened her eyes even wider and played along, "Maybe he's looking for a place to hide body parts he chopped up!"

Jordan nodded vigorously, with fear in his eyes.

Oliver snorted, "You guys are over-reacting."

Kate looked at him, narrowing her eyes, "Don't hide it. We all know you're scared too."

He looked away and crossed his arms. "Who said that..." I heard him mutter.

Kate coughed, trying to release the laughter. It sounded as if she was choking.

"Quiet down! What if he hears us!!" Jordan exclaimed, whispering.

She stopped the coughing with a sound as if she was clearing her throat.

"Sorry, I choked on a pizza crust." She lied.

But then, they heard the door open.

Kate could see Jordan and Oliver tense up.

"See! I told you he would hear!" Jordan yelled, still whispering.

"Now's not the time to be yelling at her you idiot. We should hide," Oliver suggested.

"But there's nowhere, We can't go in the kitchen counter, because the swing door is really squeaky and everywhere else, we will be seen," Kate deadpanned.

"Well, guys. I guess it's goodbye..." Jordan started, "See ya! Thanks for being sacrifices!"

He stood up and tried to leave but Oliver grabbed him by the shirt and said, "If we have to die, then you're coming with us."

Right then, Levvy (dressed in heavy make up that made him look like a devil spawn) appeared at the entrance of the hallway.

Jordan did a loud squeal of fright and got on his knees and bowed down like he was worshiping Levvy.

"Oh divine power, please forgive me. Let me live!" He was muttering over and over again, still bowing down to Levvy.

Kate couldn't hold it in. She finally burst into the loudest laughter ever.

She fell to her side and clutched her stomach.

Kate could hear Levvy chuckling but it was barely audible because of her laughter.

She stood up, calming down a little but still laughing.

She raised her hand to high-five Levvy, "That was the funniest thing ever."

Then, Kate turned to see Jordan slightly glaring and pouting, "Hey... I was actually terrified. Thanks a lot, Levvy..." He said and Levvy laughed.

"No problem, Jordan."

Kate took a look at Oliver and saw that his expression was emotionless. Wonder why...

"So, guys! Now that the 'divine power' has made an appearance, how about some pizza?"

"Come on, Kate. You know I get scared easily..." Jordan whined.

"Yeah, yeah. Just eat the slice you have. I've had enough, I already had three. One more wouldn't hurt though..." Kate picked up a slice and took a bite as Levvy sat next to them and grabbed a piece.

"So, who are you?" Levvy asked Oliver.

Oliver hadn't talked since Levvy's appearance. I wonder what's wrong.

"I'm Oliver," he introduced. A flash of recognition was in Levvy's eyes for a second before it disappeared.

"I'm Levvy. With a double 'v' and a 'y'."

"That's cool" Oliver mumbled biting his slice of pizza.

"Yep, people always say 'Isn't it Levi?' every time. They think I don't know my own name."

"Yeah, that happened with my brother. His name's Maxil (Mag-zal) but they pronounce Macs sill. He hates it."

"Oh yeah, Maxil! How's he?" Levvy asked.

"The last time I checked, he was meditating to become light like a dove, or something spiritual like that."

Oliver finally showed some emotions and laughed lightly, "That kid's always doing what he really wants."

Jordan smiled, "I guess he's going through the teenage phase 'I'll do what I want' kinda thing."

"He's a good kid," Levvy commented.

"He is, but all the people at his school think he's a complete weirdo,"Jordan said sadly.

"I guess he takes that from you," Kate snorted.

"Hey!"

"What? I'm telling the truth. Besides, you are weird, but you're also pretty awesome. Thanks for the pizza, Jordan,"

To Kate, Jordan was literally the best neighbor ever. They had been friends since their freshman year and she met him at the elevator. It was actually quite funny. They both thought they were stalking each other and right before they reached their doors, they both asked each other the question 'are you following me?' and they became friends since then. Kate never really got the chance to talk to him at school, didn't see him around much. Jordan sometimes came over for dinner and Kate and Levvy used to go to his, as well.

"Thanks, Kate."

"No problem. I call the last piece!" Kate yelled and grabbed the last piece.

A hand bumped into hers, right before she could pick it up. She looked up to see whose it was. Oliver.

He was smirking at me. Kate narrowed her eyes at him and grabbed the crust as fast as she could. He grabbed it too, by the other part of the crust.

They both pulled it towards themselves, wanting the other to let go.

"Give it to me! It's mine! I called it!" Kate cried, laughing a bit.

"Nope." He said and tugged harder.

Kate tugged back and it tore.

And she got the bigger piece.

She took a bite and grinned, "Ha, loser."

He rolled his eyes and took a bite of his.

"So Levvy, whatever have you been doing for the past month? I saw that Kate was alone last week and she told me you were missing."

Levvy gave a 'ha' and said, "She's overreacting, I left for a month to go down to Florida. I left a note."

"Yeah, that said 'Kate, I'll be back in a month. Have fun in your summer! Levvy.' That's not even a proper note!" Kate complained.

"Now I'm back after a month. And besides I told you what happened."

She grinned, remembering Levvy's experience of the past month, "Yeah, you did."

"So, what happened?" Jordan asked. Kate could see Oliver going back to his emotionless expression. I wonder what he's thinking that he has to hide it?

"Stuff..." Levvy said, flustered.

Jordan wiggled his eyebrows, "Ooooh! Is this love I smell?"

"Nah, that just might be your socks."

Kate chortled, as did Oliver.

Levvy was grinning smugly.

"You arse! I don't even wear socks..."

"Then it's your feet." Levvy retorted.

We all started laughing. Levvy definitely makes things un-awkward.
