Chasing Your Dreams
People are going to tell you that any creative career can be difficult, including writing. In my case, acting and singing are my passions. I'm constantly being told that I need a more solid plan. Now, don't get me wrong, it is important to have a realistic choice that you also enjoy to fall back on if necessary. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue your passions.
The life you are living is YOUR journey, not anyone else's. You are the only person who gets to decide what paths to take. If you are living your parents' dream or living up to society's expectations, you will not be happy. Do what makes you happy, within Christian and morally correct limits. If you want to write, then write. Spend every spare second of every day doing it until you become really good.
If your parents don't support your love of writing, try talk to them about it. Do some research on careers that involve writing that you might be interested in and be as knowledgeable as possible about the topic. Tell them about your back up options. If they're still against it, it's okay to disagree. Be respectful, but let them know that you really want to do writing. You are the only person that can be responsible for the shaping of your future.
However, if you want other people to believe in you, you need to believe in yourself and your abilities. Grow from criticism and rejection and use it as a tool to help you. As an actor, I've learned that it is inevitable to be rejected. Even the most talented people go through this. Always hold your head high (humbly). As Eleanor Roosevelt put it, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Chase after them with confidence. How do you know that you won't be one of those success stories?
