The separation (2/8)

There was no wind just a white fluffy plains, he almost wanted to dive into it, but he knew that could end up badly for anyone without the flying ability. He restrained from doing so anyway, the dragon may show him the clue he needs. Soon, it started to descend and young knight saw another range of mountains, but these ones were really dark, a fog was around them and it looked like an evil place.

The dragon landed on one cliff with a cave on it. Galahad patted its head, shoving it his gratefulness, and entered. The place was full of strange smells and stuff he never saw before. If he could guess, it reminded him a laboratory. He actually saw some glass bottles like these ones in a scholar's office.

This place seemed to be abandoned for years... no maybe centuries as he was sure this belonged to Mephiles and he voiced on a few occasions he did many experiments. Alkamira was a result of one such thing. He came upon stories of chimeras and he wondered if one can be created. He wasn't actually thinking much about the animals as he grabbed what was the nearest and after some years he created his personal pet.

He found a great liking in it as it showed big potential. He gave it ability to produce fertilized eggs on its own, making genetically identical copies to ensure this new kin survival. After that, Galahad stopped listening as Mephiles flooded his brain with unknown words that were giving him goosebumps.

He searched the old lab, but all was so old it even crumbled upon his touch. 'I wonder what am I supposed to find here? Maybe it just remembered this place as it has Mephiles' smell all over it.' He sighed. He was hoping for a good news. Well, he sure can't be angry at it. But maybe it can show him more places where Mephiles stayed!

This thought gave him new energy and as he was dashing out, he bumped into a table throwing down a small chest. "Oh, crud." Just because everything was old didn't mean he can just crash it. The chest was done for, but the object inside looked intact. He picked it up, noticing it had really strange structure.

"Is this a gemstone?" he walked outside to get a proper look at it. The stone was ring-shaped, its inner part was filled with some transparent glass or something, holding inside a small ball of light blue color. "What it can be?" He tried to dust it as the colors of it were so dull. As he was examining it, it started to emit light.

"What's happening?!" he yelled surprised as a warm feeling filled him to the brim. It was like being in the presence of the one you love, the feeling of the absolute safety. The light slowly dimmed but the gem became more clear as it got back its life. "Could this be another stone like my father has?!" the sudden thought made him dizzy so he rather sat down before gravity will do the job.

King Sonic said, in his world, they have gems called Chaos Emeralds that can give you insane power if they are collected. Even just one stone could boost one's abilities and he knew it's true as his father turned into a fighting beast during the battle with Black Doom thanks to the red stone. The shape was different, but if this one is the same!

He picked the crystal and held it in both hands pouring his psionic energy and thoughts inside. 'Please, help me to find Mephiles!' His body was energized and round marks appeared on the back of his hands, and insteps and from them, a line ran to his forehead, where they formed another circle. The air around was swirling and roaring. The fog was blown away and Galahad could see it.

[** Far away **]

Mephiles shivered. For a second he thought someone is watching him, but no one was nearby. He sighed. "My nerves must be playing with me." He sat up, concentrating on his solitude... which may not be the best thing, but he decided it's necessary. And the fact he is missing his family sure wasn't helping a bit.

He wanted to see them so much. He wondered if the twins are growing fine. They may have his blood, but they still were just children. He was sure Eclipse will help Galahad, he could count on Lancelot as well. He sighed for one thousand three hundred fifty-eight times.

He hugged his knees, hiding his face... he wanted to go home. Whether he dozed off or not had no meaning as he was suddenly awakened by a sound of steps. He listened, praying it's just his mind playing tricks on him. But that soon was proved wrong. Someone was coming closer.

He stood up. Was it an enemy? Is a knight going after his head? Well, that may have been good... if that knight wasn't Galahad! He walked towards him with his helm on. Mephiles pressed himself against the wall breathing heavily as he was just a step or two in front of him. A metal sound filled the cave as the helm hit the ground and a pair of gentle arms hugged him.

"Finally, I have found you. Please, don't disappear like this again," Galahad's voice was trembling.

"No, you can't be here!" Mephiles struggled from his arms. "You weren't supposed to find me! No one was!" He pushed him back.

"But why?"

"It just can't work between us!"
