The Impossible Egg
Katie reached into the basket, pulling out a name. Percy Jackson
She picked up her egg and started to color it blue, with little tridents decorating it.
"Hey, Katie!" Her half-sister Miranda called. "Who'd you get?"
"Percy." She said, holding up the egg. Every year, Camp Half Blood held an egg hunt. Everyone would decorate an egg to represent a camper and put their name on it. Then, the camper would have to find their egg.
Katie squinted as she neatly wrote "Percy" on the egg and added a few sea monsters. "Who'd you get?" She asked.
"Uh, Will Solace. From the Apollo cabin." Miranda held up an egg decorated with suns and band-aids.
Katie nodded approvingly. "Very nice. Hey, I think it's time to hide them!"
Katie and Miranda hurriedly ran over to the candy station. Katie decided to fill hers with all blue candy- jelly beans, blue foil- wrapped chocolates, m&ms, and gummies. Miranda dumped so much candy into her egg that she had to tape it shut. Then they hurried into the forest.
Miranda tucked hers in the tall grass by a big rock, while Katie hid hers near the stream. She thought that the water demigod would think it was funny when he found his egg by the water.
The whistle blew, signaling they should finish hiding and return to camp.
"Alright!" They heard Clarisse tell as they emerged from the trees. "I'm supposed to tell you to go hunt or something. Only I'm supposed to wait until two and I've got a meeting. So how about you losers just go hunt now, okay? Good!"
Katie rolled her eyes at Clarisse's intro speech-- granted, it was better than Annabeth's had been the previous year. Katie was good friends with Annabeth, but the girl had decided to tell them all about the scientific history of Easter Eggs, including the chemical makeup of Easter Egg dye. Still, Clarisse's speech didn't exactly seem to get the camp excited for the hunt.
People started wandering into the woods. Katie heard Miranda squeal and she turned to see the girl holding a green egg filled with pink flower candies. It appeared that her egg had been thrown into the field, not hidden. Katie assumed it had been decorated by an Ares kid (most of them thought egg hunts were stupid) or an Aphrodite kid. (Their eggs were always extremely easy to find.)
Suddenly, she spotted a bright pink egg in a bush by her feet. She recognized it as the egg she had seen Percy Jackson decorating. She picked it up, curious to who it was for, and snorted. The pink egg read "Clarisse."
She hoped for Percy's sake that Clarisse didn't find out who hid her egg.
A half-hour passed. Katie spotted tons of eggs, many belonging to her siblings. She would get excited when she saw the green and the flowers-knowing it was the egg of a child of Demeter- and deflated when the name was not hers.
"JACKSON!" She heard Clarisse yell in the distance.
Time passed and soon Katie was the only one left searching. She returned to camp tired and disappointed.
"Can't find it?" Someone said.
"Nope," Katie said.
A few years ago, someone's egg had fallen into the stream and been washed away by the current. It had eventually been found when the entire camp decided to search for the egg. Now, the same thing happened as everyone trooped back into the trees to find Katie's egg.
"Aha!" Shouted a camper after almost an hour more of searching. Katie rushed over. He pointed straight up. A mother eagle was tending to her eggs, but one egg, Katie saw, was bright green.
"What the heck?" Someone said.
"How did someone get up there?" Another whispered.
Cammie, a tiny Hectate camper, scurried up the tree and grabbed the egg. "It wasn't me," she said when she got down and handed the egg to Katie.
Katie eagerly opened the egg. She was immediately bombarded by confetti and paint pellets, dying her cheeks purple.
Everyone gasped.
"STOLLS!!!!!" Katie yelled.
Conner and Travis high fived.
