The Double Pranks
"This time you're in big trouble Travis!" Katie yelled from the doorway of the Demeter cabin. With the help of his brother, he had snuck into her cabin and put her bed on the roof.
He now hid behind a large oak tree, grinning at the effect of his prank. She glared at the campers who were gathering around the cabin, gaping at the bed on the roof.
"Any of you see Travis?" Katie asked. One, an Aphrodite kid, pointed towards the forest where Travis was hiding. "I think he went that way."
Stupid Aphrodite kids, Travis thought as Katie stormed into the forest, pushing aside branches. She was only a few feet from him. He tried to crouch low so she wouldn't see him, but she spotted his neon orange t-shirt.
Stupid shirts.
"TRAVIS!" She yelled. "You go back to my cabin right now and put my bed back where it was."
He feigned confusion. "I'm sorry?"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about, Travis Stoll."
"The thing is," he said, stalling for time. "I'm a bit busy right now."
She scowled. "Doing what?"
"Working."
"On what?"
"Admiring my work."
"What work?"
"Katie, sweetheart."
"I am not your sweetheart," she said.
"You know, if you want me to help you, you should really be nice to me," he said.
Katie forced a smile. "Why sure Travis. Why don't you talk a walk around the strawberry fields with me?"
"Now that's more like it," Travis said, standing up.
They walked over to the fields together, Travis grinning in triumph. He had liked Katie for years.
"Anyway," she said sweetly, "of course you don't know anything about my bed on the roof."
He pretended to be surprised. "Your bed? On the roof?"
"Yes, I just found it there. And I don't suppose you know anything about the grass on our roof getting mowed?"
"Nope," Travis said, leaning down to pick a strawberry. Katie winced- she watered the strawberries every morning and wouldn't let anyone else touch them.
"And you don't know anything about the door of the Poseidon cabin being glued shut?"
"Nothing." Travis widened his eyes innocently.
"Or the Ares cabin being painted pink?"
"Not a thing, Katie sweetheart," Travis said. She smiled at him.
She's so pretty Travis thought. He reached out and held her hand. Katie didn't pull away.
He was so happy that he didn't notice the Ares cabin carrying all the beds out of the Hermes cabin to the lake, where Percy was submerging them underwater.
