The Chicken Man's Revenge

"Shhh!" Travis whispered to his brother.

"I don't know about this, Travis," his brother Conner whispered back. "I dunno; it seems too risky."

"Chicken." Travis taunted.

Conner just shrugged. "Whatever. I'm gonna go to archery with the rest of our cabin."

"Traitor," Travis hissed as Conner handed him the string and jogged away.

He snuck closer to the Big House, careful to stay in the tree line. He could see Katie Gardner and Chiron talking through a window. Grinning, he snuck out of his hiding place and towards the porch. He hurriedly tied the string around one of the poles holding the roof up and attached the other end to a table. He then attached his sack on top of the pole and climbed onto the roof above the porch.

It wasn't long before Travis heard someone open the door. He quickly peered in the window. Katie was gone. He poured the molasses out of the bucket and heard them hit someone hard. The person tripped over the string and was doused with feathers. Travis laughed and cheered.

Only... Katie wasn't that tall, was she? And her voice wasn't that deep...

"Thomas Stoolt!" Mr. D boomed. "Down here this instant!"

Travis meekly climbed down the trellis. "I can explain, sir. You see, I thought you were..."

"He thought you were me," Katie spoke from the doorway, where she stood with Chiron. Chiron was gaping at Mr. D. She glared at Travis.

Ten minutes later, Travis, Chiron, and a featherless Mr. D sat at a table in the Big House.

"I want him kicked out." Mr. D said.

"It's not safe out there." Chiron protested.

"Fine." Mr. D glared at him with hatred. "If five reliable campers vouch for Teddy, then he stays."

Chiron shrugged. "All right. I'll call a meeting."

Travis had never been so humiliated than when he had to sit in front of the whole camp while Mr. D explained the conditions. (Okay, the time he had run around with underwear on his head and his pants on fire had been pretty bad...)

"Who," Mr. D said, "vouches for him?"

The Hermes Cabin, including his brother, all raised their hands.

"Reliable campers." Mr. D repeated. The Hermes cabin lowered their hands.

Percy raised his hand. "Not gonna happen." Mr. D said. Percy lowered his hand.

Annabeth raised her hand. Mr. D grunted but made a tally mark. A girl from the Aphrodite cabin who Travis thought was called Piper raised her hand. As Mr. D made a tally mark, Travis made a mental note not to prank the Aphrodite cabin. Leo Valdez, from the Hephaestus Cabin, and Kayla from the Nemesis cabin raised their hands.

Mr. D made two tally marks. "Guess you're one short." He gloated.

"Oh, what the heck." Katie Gardner raised her hand.

Mr. D gaped at her. "YESSS!" Yelled Travis. He ran up to Mr. D and made a tally mark on the paper. Then he hugged Katie. She glared at him, but he didn't care.

He was going to stay.
